(Drank 07/27/26 MO @ 4:00pm and many times before): The bar's former literal address was 4100 Sunset Blvd., so why use a different physical address now? Since I moved into the Silver Lake hipsterhood over 15 years ago, the 4100 Bar quickly became my local watering hole of a quasi dive bar. As I liked to say, "I rolled myself down the hill and later climbed my way back up" after a trip to this establishment. Formerly a distinguished dive bar called The Detour (which I also went to back in the day), it was overhauled and reopened under new ownership in 2001. Since then, it has become a staple in the community and celebrated its 25th anniversary as of this review. Although it's felt like I've been here 4100 times, would I continue to visit this corner neighborhood bar!? PURCHASE(S) Arts District Brewing 4100 Blonde Golden Ale Beer 5.00% ABV 16floz Draft ($5.00 HH): Rich amber color, light malty aroma, light body, light grainy malty sweet flavor, smooth finish, and light malty sweet aftertaste. West Coast Negroni ($10.00 HH): An interesting "beertail" that seemingly worked with its relaxing smooth taste; but honestly, I preferred the two separate to fully enjoy both. Arts District Brewing Traction IPA Beer 7.50% ABV 16floz Draft ($9.00): Bright amber color, light hoppy aroma, light body, light hoppy piney flavor, crisp smooth finish, and light hoppy aftertaste. Boilermaker (4100 Blonde) with Vodka Shot ($10.00 HH): I never understood the thought behind a liquor shot served with a beer whether it was done as a shot before or after the beer or dropped in such as the more famous Irish Car Bomb. From a marketing and sales perspective at a bar, it made sense, and maybe it got patrons drunk faster. However, from a taste perspective, it really was a waste of time and neither one or the other offered much as a pair. Boilermaker (4100 Blonde) with Whiskey Shot ($10.00 HH x3): See above. SERVICE Initially met by the front door security who checked IDs, I casually approached the bar and was greeted by a young man who easily and quickly took my orders throughout the time I was there. There wasn't any table service, so please bring your empties back to the bar and order another. Once it was time to close out, it was easy-peasy - cheers! PARKING (Varied: FREE this instance): I simply walked the five minutes from my place. Otherwise, there appeared to be some spots along the main drags of Sunset Blvd., Manzanita St., and all surrounding roads (please read all posted street signs) - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A divey ramshackled-like building with a central four-sided bar, booths along all of the walls, two well-known photobooths (b/w 4pc strip $7.00), a pool table, and simply just randomness of decorations inside. Outside, there were several pool tables, a ton of communal wooden benches, and colorful tarps that shielded you from the rain and sun. Inside, minimal natural lighting entered through the windows and doors while a random assortment of electric ceiling and hung lights filled the rest. Out on the patio, there was plenty of natural lighting while a similar electric lights situation was present and the many street lights. I didn't recall seeing any TVs while music from a jukebox played in the background. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Why it took me so long to post a review for the 4100 Bar I had no idea, but I'm glad I finally did. They had a decent selection of beers on tap and liquor for cocktails or shots, no served food so bring your own (they also had catering and food trucks at times), the prices were comparable, the vibe was very kick-back, and the service was straightforward. They generally checked all of the boxes I hoped to find in a dive bar. Furry family members were allowed on the outdoor patio (water bowls available), there were Happy Hour specials (Daily until 8pm and MO-TU 10pm-12am), and almost certain nightly entertainment such as trivia, music, and more were available. I found very complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $70.00 BEFORE any discounts, points usage, and/or tip). My first bar experience in the US, and unfortunately it left a lasting bad impression. The security staff were very friendly, we got in without any issues, and we didn't have to wait long in line. The bar itself has a cozy atmosphere, and the photo booths are a great touch. We first ordered drinks from a female bartender who was friendly, professional, and served us quickly. The restrooms were clean and spacious. Having only two stalls for such a busy venue isn't ideal, but it could always be worse. Later, we went back to order another round. An older white bartender wearing glasses started serving us, and while he was preparing our drinks, he was also taking another group's order at the same time. I completely understood that since the bar was very busy. We ordered two Whiskey Sours and one of the bar's signature cucumber cocktails. The Whiskey Sours were served in margarita glasses without ice instead of traditional whiskey glasses. I assumed they had simply run out of the proper glassware because the bar was packed, so we didn't complain. The real problem started when it was time to pay. The bartender placed the payment terminal in front of the other group instead of us, and they accidentally paid for our order. Instead of acknowledging that it was his mistake, he immediately acted as if it was somehow our fault. We tried to resolve the situation calmly and even offered to pay the other group's bill and buy them an extra drink to make up for the price difference (their bill was about $31, while ours was around $45). When it came time for us to pay, I chose not to leave a tip because of the multiple mistakes that had already happened. At that point, the bartender completely lost his temper. In the middle of a packed bar, he raised his voice and started yelling at us, saying it was disrespectful not to tip him. He also complained that we had ordered drinks that weren't on the regular menu and that making them had taken him "so much time." As a bartender myself, I know exactly how long it takes to make a Whiskey Sour, and it's certainly not an unusually time-consuming cocktail. If preparing it had been a problem, he could have simply told us before taking our order. He continued shouting that the bar was extremely busy, called our behavior "disrespectful" and "f***ed up," and finally told us he would never serve us again. We were honestly shocked. This was the first time we've ever experienced someone reacting this aggressively simply because we chose not to leave a tip, especially after such poor service. I've worked in customer service for years, and I always tip when I receive good service. I would have had absolutely no problem leaving a generous tip if our experience had been pleasant. After that confrontation, we no longer felt comfortable staying in the bar, so we left immediately with a very negative impression. Looking back, I wish I had read the reviews beforehand. It seems that many of the negative reviews mention the exact same bartender. A truly disappointing experience. read more

Alright so. I feel inclined to post this to let other people know what they're walking into. First of all, the tsa level of security upon entering this place is annoying and literally I have never experienced anything like it at any other bar I've ever been to in the world and I'm well traveled. The told me to empty my pockets. Seriously. Secondly, I put my red bull in a to go cup not knowing what their policy was on leaving with non alcoholic drinks but I assumed it was fine. Two security guards were present. The more heavy set one was perfectly fine and told me that I couldn't leave with it. And I was understanding of that so I finished it by the exit inside the patio. Suddenly a second younger security guard interjects out of nowhere reprimanding me that I can't leave with a drink. The other security guard says it's a red bull and that I'm finishing it and I, slightly annoyed, said "I'm literally going to finish it right here." And the younger security guard, literally to my face, mocks my voice and tone and goes "OKAY." In the most condescending, patronising tone you can imagine and curses me out under his breath not once but twice. With other customers present and apologized to the guy whose bag he was checking as if I'd caused a problem. I don't know who you think you're talking to but I'm not the one. So I leave and go to another bar and decide to finish my night back at 4100 and give it another chance. The security staff had been changed out so I was feeling optimistic. Upon bag inspection again, I was denied entry for an empty mini bottle that I threw out in front of security and assured them was EMPTY. I was refused entry. I entered the bar earlier that night with the same contents in my bag without issue the first time. If any other staff or management happens to read this, I assure you, I have never, ever had such an unprofessional and unpleasant experience at any other bar or restaurant in my entire life. And I go out extremely frequently. There absolutely needs to be a staff change and I most likely will discourage any of my friends from returning and I will not be back. read more

It's so chic and diva to have an animal print pool table! They also have a few others available, but not as cool as the print one. Very lively place on the weekends. Best bar on the eastside for sure. Best overall bar I should say. 5 pool tables, countless picnic benches. On any given night of the week you might find punk rock young people playing fun games to working actors and models frolicking the outside.. Ren seems to lead the security and is a real cool guy. Mouse and Olaf are my favorite bartenders. Every time I come I am greeted with love from staff and regulars. Lively bar no doubt. 4 pool tables and lots of seating options. Prices are what you would expect. Usually have a food vendor outside for some grub. Kind of feels like a giant frat party every night, so if that's your vibe, definitely go. All I will say is when it's packed, the service is slower than a snail. Don't be surprised when you stand at the bar for 30 minutes to get a drink, then proceed to watch someone that just walked up be served because they screamed at the bartender before you. It's a mad house at the bar on the weekends. If they added some kind of line system, or on some nights, double the bartenders, they would be a lot better off. read more

Decided to try out this spot because I heard everyone was really friendly here. So I stopped by around 5PM on a Thursday, ready to DRINK! About half a dozen customers were there, mostly hanging outside. First of all, the bouncers I interacted with were perfect. They were friendly, they spoke to me with respect and it was all normal and above board. On my way in, I saw a dude chilling by a plancha outdoors (no food cooking mind you), and then I see a sign that literally says "Taco Truck Menu" ON THE FRONT DOOR as I enter the bar! So I walk up to the bar, with a smile, and I go, "Hi! It's my first time here so I'm not sure how things work, I saw tacos outside, how does it work? Do I order with you?" Bartender (white dude, glasses): "Those are NOT tacos! We don't have a kitchen here." I was taken aback, because ok, like I literally just told you, it's my first time here, calm down bro. He goes on to explain that the food outside is "mashed potatoes." Ok cool. I'm sorry that I didn't know that I guess? ‍ I order my drink and think not much of it, but still find it a bit off-putting. I finish my beer. Get in line to order my next round. I see the Happy Hour menu and see you could get a 4100 beer and a shot for $10! Cool! I order that. "He goes what shot do you want?" I ask,"what you got?" He looked super annoyed and was like "it's well shots." I used to be a bartender, so I expect at LEAST a MODICUM of friendliness and hospitality from my bartenders. Definitely 1st and last time here. Stood at the bar and got ignored by the bartender after flagging him down. He said "I have to serve these people, they were here 1st". The people he mentioned looked at me confused because they arrived at the bar after me... Ive worked years in the bar/service industry so I didn't take it personally. The bartender wears glasses so maybe he can't see that well. Takes 2 other people's orders and gets to me. I order 3 canned drinks and he clearly sees that I didn't tip and scoffs at me. The patio was too overpacked for me and a drunk girl stole a ball from the pool table my friends and I were on. She ran out without even a glance from security, insanely oddball behavior. Everyone I talked to was a transplant either looking for drinks, coke, or women. Was not chill. Trying to make the most of the night, we decide to hit the Photo Booth before leaving. What do you know, the machine didn't work. Last call here was quite odd. They lock the entry and force you to leave through the patio. Short Bouncer with mustache checked my friends legitimate ID, even held the flashlight to it, says it felt off and asked for another form of ID which he didn't have and then says "you're lucky i don't throw this away" threatens destruction of government property and then I go up and show both my ID and drivers license and he says the same thing, gives no other reason as to why it feels off and then tells me to leave for slightly raising my voice, bouncers don't even know how to do their jobs read more

I don't think a cleaning crew has been through here in 10 years. It is hands-down the nastiest, smelliest, stickiest bar in the United States. First time here yesterday and the last. Bouncer was so rude and caused a scene over a few plastic bottles of water my friend brought for our group gathering on a 90 degree day. I completely understand policy but to walk around and start grabbing people's water bottles and trashing them in front of us is so rude and immature. I tried to finish my water bottle without it going to waste and he yelled at me, threatened to kick me out. It completely ruined the outing vibe and I left. The minute I walked into this place, I thought of my friend who loves, to quote, dive bars and thought this is the place for him. It's an odd combination of charm and grunge. The bouncers were cold and unsmiling, but the bartender was sweet and friendly. The bathroom is gross, but the patio is a chill place to sit and hang with your friends. My whiskey mule was pretty terrible (desperately needs fresh ginger beer) , but the taco truck and the fried chicken vendor were both really delicious. For real though, this bar will shut its interior doors without warning, far from close, and auto-assign the failure-to-close charge to your tab. This review is from my experience on May 25th, Monday night about an hour or two before closing. To preface, the security at the front outside is awesome. I left my phone at the bench outside and he grabbed it quickly before anyone could steal it so I really appreciate that. I believe he had piercings, really down to earth and friendly, awesome guy! However, the bartenders are extremely pretentious, insolent, and unfortunately I'd go as far as to say potentially predatory. Long story short, one of the bartenders with a beard and glasses facing the outdoor patio was serving my girlfriend two shots, when she only ordered one. She was already over her limit and I thought that was very suspicious, ... I had been in the restroom during this time and when I got back she told me she had only ordered one, yet he insisted he was ringing her up for two. It seemed to me like he was trying to get her drunk at the time he thought she was unattended (keep in mind she is 22 and he looked over 35 easily). This was odd because he simultaneously was judging her for saying she only wanted one, not two shots, even though it may have been a simple case of her misspeaking. I explained to him and he refused to change the bill, forcing her to not just over drink but also charge us more than we intended to pay in the process. Given that the bar was about to close in about 40 minutes AND it was a Monday, I found it especially strange he would do this. I work in service jobs and I have never given anyone any hassle for making a mistake about what they wanted to order, even if it was a case of them simply changing their mind. There was absolutely no reason for him to not just go back and change the order and charge us for the one drink. It felt extremely uncomfortable and it was quite disappointing, seeing as we usually have a fine time here. Sadly I don't think we or any of our friends will be coming again after this. 4100 Bar is such a great hangout spot and one I really enjoy. The beer is cheap, making it a good spot for a night out. There is a pool area that is perfect for some casual games, and if you come before 9pm you can usually play pretty freely since it does not get too crowded until later in the evening. The atmosphere is fun and welcoming, with plenty of good seating and even a vintage photo booth inside which adds a cool nostalgic touch. It is also dog friendly, which makes it even better if you want to bring your pup along. On hot days and evenings, the new mist machine and updated AC make the place feel nice and cool, which is such a game changer. First I should point out that contrary to the other reviews here, this is absolutely not a dive bar. It's not super expensive, especially given the neighborhood, so maybe that's it? This is a very trendy bar in a place where nightlife is abundant. It can get packed on here. And between the patio and the inside bar, that's can be a lot of people. If you're bringing a group, this might be a place to consider. And it's loud. Very loud. The music is cranked up, and then you have people yelling over it. It's definitely a loud, happening place. Service here is fairly good. The bartenders are friendly and quick, which is very welcome. There's a limited selection of beers and a small drink menu, but most common drinks can be accommodated. The bathrooms here are disgusting. Maybe that's the reason for the dive comments? The fixtures are in a state of disrepair, and I've never seen them clean. Given the neighborhood, parking is really tough. That's going to be the case for pretty much any business here without a dedicated lot. Ladies please be careful of certain bouncers/security there! One in specific (bald, short, bushy eyebrow, male on a tuesday night holding the metal detector) took photos of my friend and i's CHEST while scanning us. he had his phone out and camera open. i visibly saw my chest tattoo in the small corner indicating the mosy recent photo taken. Mind you i have a black 5in tattoo on my chest. it's not something you'd miss. it was our first time here for a friend's birthday and we're so disappointed and don't plan on coming to this establishment again. I came here to link up with a friend whom I hadn't seen in a while, and ended up hanging for a while. I grabbed a Guinness and my friend who doesn't drink often asked the bartender for something "sweet and refreshing". I think the bartenders name was Levi but I apologize if I am remembering incorrectly. I remember he had a nose ring, and brown hair lol. Very friendly and helpful dude. He made my friend a cosmo or something similar and she loved it so much she had 3 of them. We really enjoyed ourselves and the bartender really made the visit extra memorable. on another note- We also loved the patio/yard area with tons of seating and outdoor pool tables. Not too many places left in LA where you can still smoke that aren't super small or crowded. We split a quesadilla from the food vendor and it was delicious! The outside feels like a block party or a street takeover minus the burnouts, and police cars. Don't have high expectations for ambiance, service, and you'll enjoy it. On march 14th 6:30pm I went up to the bartender with glasses and a french hat because I waited until he wasn't busy and asked "by any chance do you guys have a bandaid". He says no and i respond saying ok no problem. His response was "get out of the way so I can go grab one" in a very rude way so much so that afterwords 3 girls sitting at the bar walked up to me after and mentioned how weird and aggressive he was for no reason because i asked so kindly. Very weird considering i asked so kindly and he wasn't busy at all because i waited until he was done helping people. Somebody needs to check this guy because my friends and I most definitely won't be coming back ever. Divey, oldie but goodie...use to frequent this bar about 15 years ago. The booths/sitting area is still intact. Floor is cemented and uneven (careful if wearing high heels).
