Lead carpenter Bryan is a deck mastermind who was great at figuring out sound, good-looking solutions to our issues. Both he and fellow carpenter Jeromy were highly skilled and efficient, left the work site immaculate at the end of every day and were also just nice to have around. We like the results so much we added fascia and new board for our catwalks to the original agreement. Shirey's inside staff -- coordinator Ashley and bookkeeper Brenda -- are equally great, and especially good at timely, clear communication. Done to Spec had a competitive estimate compared to several other contractors we researched. The work was done well and overall we're very happy with the results, especially the tile work. They went out of their way to make sure the stairs were done correctly and that the wood matched up well to the tile on the landing. The tile in the bathrooms was very well laid out. The project went more slowly than expected, however, since they're a pretty small outfit, and this was a pretty large project. We weren't under any time pressure, and we felt they took the time to do it right, so it was OK in the end. Communication seemed to get more sporadic over time, and we had a little surprise charge near the end of the project. The charge was justified, just not well communicated. Overall though, we can highly recommend Done To Spec, and would hire them again.

I was very excited to work with them. Xavier was very friendly. Before I had even agreed to hire them, they were working. Getting architectural plans and even helping to build a shed in my backyard in their spare time, to remove all of the items in the garage. At the time, I didn't see it as fishy...now I wonder. Before signing the contract, Xavier and I had to go back and forth, at least 5 times, to make changes. Finally, when we agreed and I signed, I was to pay 33% to begin the project. Xavier was desperate for the money, so wanted me to do an instant wire transfer. For some reason my bank flagged this. So we canceled and I sent a bill payment online. This too was flagged. I went into my bank ready to question why this kept happening. First thing they asked me was...have you researched this company? Well...yes a little. Clearly not enough. Here's where I will break it down for you, so you can make your choice about whether or not you'd like to work w/ this company. 1. Prior to November of 2020, this company was called Marcus Construction & Development (I encourage you to Yelp this company and read reviews). 2. This company is licensed in Arizona. Not Washington (no idea why). 3. This company, after changing its name, had to re-apply for their license in February of 2021. 4. Check BBB. Do a simple web search for Modern Solutions Construction LLC and see what it brings up. If you see the names Malachi and/or Xavier...those two run this company and that is accurate. 5. The website they have listed here is bunk. They have no website. Look for Marcus Construction & Development's website. They have one. After the things I learned, I amicably attempted to let the company go and offer to pay for the costs accrued as of current, in good faith. In return I was given screen grabs of amounts out of their account. When I asked for a detailed invoice, I was threatened. Xavier said he'd come to my yard to take materials he'd paid for (there were none) and put my house under a lien. He also threatened an attorney. This situation is still pending. I have filed a police report and opened a claim with the WA State Attorney General to have them investigated. But I wanted to get this out there for all that are currently considering this company. You don't have to believe me, but please just do your due diligence before you hire them.

There were however, problems with returning my exterior fixtures back to the locations that they were before the project began (flag mount hose mounts, solar lights, circuit breaker box ground wire covers) I think my feedback for them for their future work, would be to take video or pictures pre and post and compare to make sure everything is cleaned up and returned as expected (so The customer doesn't have to bring it up to them). ​

I am very happy with the quality of work and the finished product. Skyler was the project manager and Tony was the construction manager. They were very organized, the project started on time and ended on time. Every day, the workers were at my house no later than 8:30 and usually by 8:00. Skyler or Tony stopped by most days to check on the progress. All the workers wore masks, they cleaned up after themselves, they were polite and all did a fantastic job. I wish I could find a 'before' picture but here's one 'after' picture. The shower enclosure is still being fabricated. Also, if you have a chance to have heated tile floors, DO IT!! It is so worth the money.

We had a really good experience communicating with the people at Sound Construction and working with Skyler (our project manager). Skyler was nice and personable and always quick to respond to our concerns. However, we had a lot of issues with the work done by the tile setting (our tile setters were Ihor & Milad). There were a number of things that they did wrong or poorly that we had to ask them to address. When possible, they were responsive to our concerns and spent a lot of time addressing things they did wrong. But, we were frustrated we had to spend so much time overseeing their work when really they should have done it right in the first place. There were many times it felt like we knew more about how tiling should be done, even though we're just humble DIYers and they're professional tilers. Also, the BIGGEST issue we have is that they applied the shower tile by spot-bonding. Once the tiles were set this way, it's obviously not possible to reset. Sound Construction responded to these concerns by offering to extend the warranty to 3 years, but we are still concerned about the longevity of the installation. In the end, we like how the tile looks but aren't very happy with how the installation was done or all the challenges in the installation process.

Unfortunately the faucets were not installed…read morecorrectly; the new kitchen faucet needed to be purged before insulation, which was not done and caused a blockage in the new faucet. The bathroom faucet wouldn't fit. No doubt after three hours of work it was a valiant effort, but even with a discount from quality one I still had to pay a lot of money out of pocket for new faucets and a professional plumber to finish the job.
