The service was fine. But the ad for "$29.95 Out the Door" is misleading. I called and was assured that this was the price, only to discover that I had missed the fine print about 1995 and older cars. OK, blame me for that, perhaps. But the extra $10 for the DMV Certificate Fee? I paid that too before I got out the door. read more

Great business. Quick, professional, and above all he is an HONEST guy. I started using this smog check station last year because its fast and convenient and close to where I live. I come here almost every week for smog checks because I have lots of friends and families that live here so this is the spot where I pull up to. You seriously cant beat the price of 28 dollars for 2000 and newer smog checks... and thats out the door cash price. That guy Jason is pretty helpful whenever I have car problems Honesty and efficiency are hard qualities to find in a good technician. He will not try to screw you out of money and his prices are reasonable/super competitive for the area if not the lowest. His advice is golden. Thanks again Jason. read more

Had a great experience. Quick and easy, what more can u want from a smog check. I definitely recommend!

This place would have been fine--except the guy did not tell me, when I called up beforehand, that they do not take credit cards! That meant going, waiting, having it done, driving back home to pick up a checkbook, and driving back again to pay. I mean, really... in this day and age, when everyone takes credit cards, he should have let me know. It's fine to not take credit cards, but absolutely totally irresponsible to not tell callers to bring cash or check. What a time-waster! Made me very angry. read more

Jason helped me in under 5 mins! I checked in on Yelp (Jason let me know of the discount) and was on my way. Super quick, friendly, excellent! read more

Super fast and courteous service. No frills, you're sitting on a plastic chair on the side of a gas station parking lot (albeit an extremely picturesque one) - but if you're in and out in less than 10 minutes you don't really need free coffee and magazines, do you? read more

Fast, friendly, convenient service. This spot is great! I was in and out in under ten minutes. Highly recommend.

Can't ask for more. No line, I was done in 10 minutes. $29 + $8 certificate. And they electronically send the DMV your certification so there's no fuss, no mess! read more

Super fast, courteous, LOCAL in my North Berkeley neighborhood, and low cost. $28.00 cash. Highly recommended. Only comment is the access and egress can be a bit tight at this busy little local gas station. Well worth the tiny bother though. read more

I was looking on YELP for a reasonably priced place to do my smog test. And I found this place. I was so skeptical that this price ($28!) was even possible, but I called and they confirmed it! I went on a Friday early afternoon. Service was quick - like 15 mins quick. I was in and out of there before you know it. I will definitely be coming back here in the future and recommend it to all my friends and fam! read more

Jason was vary helpful and Professional on getting my car done Quick. in and out under 10 min. Very Appreciated will go back next time.

Easy, fast, with great personality. I highly recommend this place. I have had my smog checked here twice.

The technician is very professional, helpful and fast. I was the first car in line, had hardly settled into my chair when the car was done! I used to live in this neighborhood and this was the closest smog check place. I've since moved to Emeryville but still go a little out of my way to get my car checked here. Thanks 4 Less Smog Check, North Berkeley! Please note that cash is preferred, or pay a $5 fee to use debit/credit cards. read more

The service for a smog check was excellent, straight forward and fast! Will definitely come back.

Deceptive advertising... "$28 TOTAL For passenger cars 1996 and newer." We ended up getting charged $68. What a rip-off!!! Never coming here again! On top of that, the tech was unpleasant. read more

Great experience today at 4 Less Smog. Very fast, honest and enjoyable experience. Would strongly recommend to anyway that needs to get smog check. read more

Got my car smogged here last July. Got pulled over this past weekend because my tags are expired (yeah, probably should have noticed the new ones never got sent to me). Apparently the smog report was never uploaded to the DMV system. I called this place and they said all they can do is print out a report to have me bring to the DMV in person. Um, what? I do not have time for that. They apparently "take no responsibility" for errors like this. Good to know! Glad I paid you money for a service that wasn't rendered. Obviously I won't be coming back. read more

In and out in 5 minutes...probably the most painless smog I've ever done. Taking off a star because I was quoted a price all inclusive but not told they charge an extra $5 to use a credit card, which is kind of sleazy...but my bad for not reading more of the reviews here before going. Use the yelp coupon and bring cash and you'll be a happy camper! read more

Gets a little crowded in that Chevron parking lot, but the guy gets you in and out quickly, has competitive rates, and is very polite. I look forward to my visit every two years. read more

They were super efficient, when I arrived at 10am nobody was waiting so I was in & out in 20 minutes, got my van smog certificate & used a Groupon so it was only $30 total. :-) Thank you 4 Less Smog Check read more

Super fast service. Jason is great. Can't beat the price.

I came here last year for a smog check, and decided to return this year because I was highly satisfied last year. The cost is very reasonable ($28 using the coupon), and service is very fast. The mechanic was very courteous, friendly, and efficient. I plan to return next year. read more

I used them last time and but went back. Fast, friendly and I passed! Don't forget to mention you saw them on Yelp. It makes it cheaper.

By far the best experience I've ever had at a smog check station. Yeah.... one goes every 2 years but for some reason we always end up at a different place. Well not this next round. I'll be returning to this 4 Less Smog Check from now on. Best price and the quickest I've ever been in and out of a smog check in my life. Jason Volman (Technician) was professional, informative and made sure I left a happy customer. I'll be back in 2019... to do it all over again. Make this place your next smog check location! Jason is legit! read more

Fast, convenient and friendly. Great place to swing by and get that smog check done. Selling my car and California needs it done beforehand. Oh and great prices!! Used a valpak coupon that came in the mail for $25 out the door (including cert.) Paid with credit card, would've been a few bucks cheaper with cash but no biggie... appreciated the convenience. Public restrooms across the street at the library. Did I mention the guy was super nice and down to earth? Five stars!! read more

I found a coupon from Val Pak for $13.75 plus $8.25 State Certificate Fee. Less than 10 min out the door for $22 cash. Easy peasy. Friendly fast service. He backed my car in, did his business, and parked it curbside. Can't beat the price. It's first come, first serve. There was one person ahead of me and I was still out the door in less than 10 min. Amazing! read more

I came to this place for a smog check. As I walked up, it sounded like an argument was going on. It was the person doing the smog checks yelling at me for not parking in the right spot. He was beyond rude and very slow. His rudeness continued throughout my time there. I will not being going back. read more

I stopped by mid afternoon and was out faster than it takes to fill up my gas tank! Highly recommend this place. It's also out of the way (not on San Pablo) so easy to get to for me. read more

Jason was very helpful, didn't have to wait long at all even when I was second in line. No issues whatsoever, $28 bucks otd. Highly recommended. read more

Always FAST! Always NICE! Pleasant place to sit and right next to the library. No one wants to smog their car but I've been coming here for years and can't imagine why I'd go anywhere else. read more

I recently came across this Smog shop and I'm definitely going to come back here again and again. This place offers speedy top-notch service by Dan, he was professional, efficient and super helpful. I Will definitely be back when my car is due again, even though I have to drive a little farther. Service is well worth the drive!! read more

Fast but not 19 dollars. It's more they must it have updated their site. I was charged $68..the two new cars waiting after me were $68 too. And it's cash or check only read more

I was in and out in 20 minutes. The reason I rated them 2 stars was because of their bait and switch tactics. The website states "$38.00... No extra charges for vans" well they tried to charge $68 for my van. He said I had to have a print out of their site to get the price (which I didn't have) and when I took my registration renewal and started to leave he then gave me the $38.00 price. Shady business practices should not be encouraged regardless of price. read more

My mom recommended that I come here to have my car smoged. Most places in the area are a lot more expensive for suvs and wanted an appt. I just showed up gave him my paperwork and car keys and left within 10 minutes. Easy, fast and inexpensive. Will come back again! read more

Update: As of their 2019 coupon, the special price now applies to only 2010 model cars.

I've taken 3 of my family's cars here, including mine, 2 months after the other. Every time I've brought a car here I've been in a rush, and worried that the process would take long. But the longest I've ever had to wait was ~20 minutes with my oldest car and 1 person ahead of me. I've taken cars ranging from 1998 to 2011, and every service has been quick, pleseant, and affordable! I always recommend this place to my family and friends if they ever bring up a smog test in their to-do list. read more

Came here today was quick only 15 min and for $28 you can't beat that anywhere just make sure you mention that you seen the deal on yelp.. my car passed smog which was great it has 235,300 miles... Will definitely come back when it's time again.. read more

Very friendly and fast service. I used a coupon from the mail for an excellent price.

Okay don't tell me that you know what your ad says since your telling me different!!! First I called to book an appointment and he told me it was first come first serve no appointments accepted ( ad on google) says ....Just call before you stop by lock in your spot and bring $28 cash. He asked me how I heard of his shop and I told him the google ad. He says for $28 I said yes, then he gets out of my truck and looks on the side of the door and continues to tell me that it's going to be $10 more because my truck is over weight...here is the AD statement once again....Guaranteed best price smog check anywhere! NO EXTRA fees! for STAR certification, SUVs, trucks, vans like other shops. Read THEIR fine print ( he should read his own) all of them charge extra for trucks, vans, SUVs and STAR. We don't. I then continued to agree to pay the $28 + 10 extra because I already waited and needed to get this done...He was very RUDE and I would advise people to stay away! I'm all about supporting local family businesses but this guy is a JERK. Once I asked him if he owned the shop and for a business card he said " I'm gonna just charge you $28. If this guy didn't own the shop I'm sure the person whom does is the one having to run the $28 special because of the way this guy treats everyone and hoping to bring customers in. I in the future will take my service else where and I will also do a good job at spreading the word on how rude of a mechanic this guy is and to go else where! read more
