I came prepared: I knew about the Yelp deal, I had my DMV paperwork and cash. I also had a library card for the public library across the street. When I stopped in, there was a car in front of me. The check-in lady told me it would be about 15 minutes to do the car in front of me and then mine. She also explained the pricing, both if I passed and if I did not. I went to the library for 20 minutes. When I got back, car was done. I paid, got my paperwork back, and I left. Easy, no issues. read more

This place is very quick! I walked in and left my key after a little bit paperwork. Then I went into the gas station shop right beside it and bought a bottle of Coke. Before I finished the bottle, the smog check was done and all the information was sent to the DMV. Nice and clean, it was really an awesome experience! read more

Their website has a "Season's Special" right now (not sure which season they're referring to) for $16.75, plus $8.25 certificate fee. It's a cash-only offer, but for $25 total I'll forgive them for that. I was able to make a small purchase in the kiosk with my ATM card and get cash back, so it was really no big deal. They don't take reservations so it's first come, first served. There were 2 people ahead of me when I arrived but I was still done in less than 30 minutes! And it is located right across the street from the North Berkeley Public Library, so there is something to do while you wait. The technician, Lin (not sure of spelling), was efficient, down-to-business and courteous. read more

Only one bay, so you may have to wait a little if it is busy. Linh is friendly and fast (unless there is a clunker in front of you.) Had to wait 20 minutes for a clunker to be done. Mine took less than 10 minutes. Cheap, compare to some other places that want $68. Bring cash! read more

The wait was quick and fast. They took every precaution to make the process safe for both parties.

It was easy breezy. I really appreciate a place that wastes no time. Thanks for the great service.

Wow, what a find! I have never had a smog check that was this fast. The gentleman who helped me was professional and friendly, and I barely had a chance to sit down before they were done. This is my favorite place to smog our family cars. Jason is professional, helpful and quick. I have smog my car there twice, and I have been pleasantly surprised each time by Jason Volman's professional attitude towards his work, his amiable tone of voice, and still very efficient and trustworthy getting the job done; not to mention it is even one of the best prices you can find!! I highly recommend his business. Kudos for a Job Well Done Jason!!! I will keep coming back. Thank you. Urania read more

Fast service. In and out in under 15 minutes. I only gave 4 stars because they charged me $10 for having a truck. I have a 2006 silverado so it doesnt need to go on the rollers. Just plugged in to the OBD2 port and the visual inspection. Therefore i dont understand the extra charge. read more

Brought my civic with an engine swap and had a really great experience here. Knowledgable, experienced, and great communication throughout the process. You want a smog technician who understands the process and can do the work with minimal hiccups. Highly recommend even if it costs a little bit extra to do the test every two years. read more

Scam Alert! I went here and the guy first has trouble driving a manual transmission, stalling my car repeatedly to get 15 feet from the parking spot to the garage bay. Once he finally pulls it in, he pops the hood and takes quick look underneath and then begins the test. Fifteen minutes later, he calls me over to pay (cash only) and attempts to charge me $80, which is 4x the advertised price. After I said something, he scribbles it out and writes $40, saying that the $20 advertised price is only for newer cars. I grudgingly pay, even though this "older car surcharge" is not advertised anywhere. Only after paying, he then tells me that my car failed the visual inspection (i.e., that thing he did prior to doing anything else), but passed all the emissions tests. I ask why, and he says because I don't have OEM vacuum lines. My car is a 1986 Alfa Romeo Spider, of course it doesn't have original vacuum lines: they deteriorate over time and this is a user-replaceable part sold at every auto part store in CA. He says that I'm "welcome" to pay him another $40 to have it retested once I take it to a dealership to have them replaced again (with what, he won't say, since it would likely be the same vacuum lines that are in there). I ask to see where in the regulations it says anything about vacuum lines, and he refuses to show me and starts to get angry. I leave. I make an appointment with the referee program to get a second opinion. I tell the guy what happened and he says, "of course there are no OEM replacements for the vacuum lines," he retests the car, and immediately passes it. He also opens up the regulations and shows me that these vacuum lines are perfectly acceptable (and gave me a copy, in case this comes up again saying, "many of these guys don't know what they're talking about"). So the takeaway: 1) The guy at 4 Less Smog Check tried to overcharge me. 2) He knew he was going to fail my car for a bogus reason prior to doing any of the emissions tests. 3) He did the tests anyway, knowing he was going to fail me, just so that he could collect $40. 4) The state emissions test referee agreed that my car should never have been failed. read more

The smog check technician was good, but the manager/owner refused to redeem my Groupon because my vehicle was "too old" even though the Groupon description stated "$25 added to the Groupon for vehicles 95' and older"...my car is 85'. Maybe change the description to say 90-95' then. She treated me like I was trying to cheat out of paying, not coming back here! read more

Ugh, what a terrible experience. I chose this spot because of the promise on their website "No extra fees!", claiming that every smog check spot will charge extra fees but they won't, all I needed to do was bring $28 cash. Great! Just in case, I printed out the web page. I parked my car and walked into the garage where the man sitting at the desk, with absolutely NO business, was sitting. He completely ignored me until I got right up next to him, when I believe he muttered, "What do you need?" A smog check, sir, sorry for pulling you away from your crossword puzzle. I was very polite as he begrudgingly started the paperwork, telling him that I found him on Yelp and was there for the $28 deal. OH, ACTUALLY, we charge $10 extra for diesel cars. SERIOUSLY? Luckily, I had my handy print-out and courteously showed him the claims made, that the exceptions listed DID NOT include diesel cars. He finally gave me the $28 deal. Ten minutes later, my car was smogged and I was thankfully on my way. They get one star because I got what I came for, plus a headache and a feeling that I was being cheated. Showed up around 9 am, there was no one else waiting for a test. I was driving away a total of 5 minutes after showing up. The guy was quick, knowledgable. And this was the cheapest smog test I have found in my area. Will definitely be back for all future smog tests! read more

Take your business somewhere else. Rude, antagonistic clerk, deceptive business practices. They don't say they don't provide free retests, but they also don't say that they do. Check that when comparing options. Cash only deal if you know the secret handshake, and buy something next door to get the cash. I found the manner of the clerk repugnant, and told him so. He followed me out to continue arguing. Really? The attendant also informed me as he followed me to my car, to continue basically telling me I was stupid, that he had a family member that worked for Yelp that would happily filter my review. There are options in the same range. Go elsewhere. read more

I just called this place to ask how long will they be honoring the Website Special and the young man who answered the phone said, "I don't know, I don't make up the prices". I then said to him, "I'm not calling to question the prices, I'm asking about the ending date of the Website Special.......I'm a customer" His reply.............He hangs up in my face. I then tried calling back, and he continues to hang up on the First ring. After calling back several times he finally answers my call and I then ask to speak to a Manager, the young man replies he is the Manager. I ask, "You are the Manager? but hanging up in my face? He goes on to say, "We don't need all that" whatever that is supposed to mean, Oh, and hangs up on me again. So, I never got my question answered, instead I received very poor Customer Service from the Rude MANAGER. Dated 11/16/2016 12:40 - 12:47 PM read more

This place is a joke. I had my car smogged here before and paid the "yelp" price $19.75 + certificate price. Called in and asked about their yelp deal which doesn't state anything about "00' vehicle or newer" as their website deal does. The guy over the phone said they "changed smog". Please. I paid for the same thing at another smog check only place after not going here. Terrible customer service. Cut the attitude in your voice. read more

Not a very good place to get a smog check. Machine is very old and finicky and only one guy was working for the whole gas station, smog and register. I had called ahead the day before and was told not to make an appt and to just come in. So, after driving my old car an extra hour and wasting my time to get the sensors ready for the smog test, the worker didn't want to do the test because there was "too much activity in the parking lot". Well there was a truck loading the gas tanks and a few ppl getting gas but no one else waiting to get smogged. He finally agreed after I basically begged him to do the test. Then he smogged someone else's car who came after me, before he did my car. In the end he couldn't even complete the test bc the old crappy machine they have does not have its own power and my cars battery was too depleted from all the waiting and idling to power their machine. Ridiculous...they should have told me on the phone about the crappy machine when I told them my car is old and cannot idle forever and that I would be driving it an extra hour to prepare for the test. The worker told me they really need to get a new machine but he doesn't know when they will. To the owners: Get some help for ur workers or don't offer services u cannot complete! And buy a new smog machine for gosh sakes. Big Waste of my time read more

Jason was professional and courteous. In and out in less than 5 min. $26 out the door for a car $35 for a minivan. I plan on getting all my vehicles smogged here. Bring cash, coupon, and DMV paperwork. read more

5 min turn around, polite and efficient manager, discounts if using yelp app. Best to go after morning rush hour.

Went to their web site. Front and center was their $28 price. So my wife went down there, got the car smogged, and came back. They charged her $60! I went back to ask them the next day about it. "That's our 'internet special'. But there was no indication on the web site that $28 was anything other than their everyday price. So since my wife didn't even know to ask for it, they charged her more than double. I asked for the difference back since that seemed dishonest, and the guy basically laughed at me. He was curt, unfriendly, unsympathetic, and basically a d*ck. When I asked how to contact the owner, he said the owners don't accept phone calls. He took my number, and said they'd call me back. Yeah, right. Didn't hear from them. Yes, had I told my wife the advertised price and she specifically requested it, it would have been fine. But nothing about their web site (which I won't list here) said she had to ask. The deceptive, unfriendly, unsympathetic, and unresponsive owners won't get my business again. With so many cheap smog places around, no need to patronize this one. read more

Smog check was super quick and affordable with the yelp check in! I was in and out in 15 minutes great customer service as well!

I was happy to find good reviews for this shop since it's close to where I live. And because I forgot my DMV paperwork so I could retrieve it quickly and get back there. When I pulled in the second time, Jason saw me coming so he had already filled out a portion of his paperwork. Mention Yelp to unlock the $28 rate. After I sat down on a chair underneath the tree and sent a quick text, Jason pulled my car into his garage, did the test and parked it again before I even knew what happened. Less than 5 minutes later I'm paying for the test and on my way. Easy peasy! read more

I had a problem with these guys around price. I live close by and pass the place every day. For weeks I'd seen a "$29.95 Smog Test" sign in front of the station. I stopped by for that reason. I asked the guy about the price and he asked me where I'd gotten the idea that the test costs $29.95. I told him, "on the sign you usually have in front". Then he told me my car was $10 extra because it was a van. I was in a hurry so I went for the $39.95 test plus the cost of the certificate. I later checked their WEB site and see that cars from 1995 or earlier are $10 extra, not vans. Unfortunately, my car failed the test for some transmission error code - no problem with the emissions. I asked him about the free re-test and he said that because my car had failed he'd just charge me $30 (instead of $40) for the test and another $30 - plus certificate cost - when I came in for the re-test. The wait wasn't long but I don't like having to go back and forth with someone on a price I had seen day after day. I felt like a fool for having been in such a rush to get the test that I didn't walk to begin with. (I didn't go back there for my re-test). Just a couple of hours later that same $29.95 Smog Test sign was back in front of the station. I hate to trash anyone because I know they're just trying to make a buck in these tough times but... the place is probably fine for a smog test but be very sure about the price of the test and the re-test before you give them your car. read more
