Luckily I saw this place again on the way back and I knew I had to have it. I ended up getting the Club on a Sub hot sandwich, and I must say, it did not disappoint! The flavors worked well together, the sauce brought it home. I wanted to eat half and save the other for later, but I couldn't help it. Even though I was full beyond belief (one sub could feed 2 people), it was definitely worth it. Service was quick, you can order on your phone, they call out your name like a Starbucks. Each sub can be modified to your liking. And they offer drinks, chips and plenty of extras to go with your sub. It's a small restaurant, but had plenty of seating, with chargers (it is inside an airport after all). Food came out quick, hot and delicious. Would come back again to try other subs. I kinda wish they sold in halves, so I can try more flavors in one go. Welp, until next time!

Firehouse Steak and Cheese: The steak was fine, and what I enjoyed the most was how the sub held up together as I ate. I'm used to steak sandwiches being very drippy throughout the meal, and I'm glad that this wasn't one of those instances. Flavor wise, I was generally unimpressed, but I think it's my fault for expecting better than average food in an airport. Provolone is a good cheese to be paired with beef, and the bell peppers are a good touch. Unfortunately, it's still not enough to be above average. Service: Ordered online and got my sub after my number was called. No drama. Ambiance: It was located in the airport's airside food court. It's crowded, a bit noisy, and you're really there to wait for your flight. It's not glamorous, but it's all that you've got.

I also really like their coffee. Always my go to spot if I have an early morning flight or just a caffeine pick me up during the day. My only complaint, like most places at Newark is the prices. Very difficult to get anything of substance below $10.

I was early for my 755pm flight back to IAD, given the tsa issue but got through precheck quicker than expected, which then give me a chance to lounge a bit. Was not able to use United Club so... Let's get right to the low score--Worst of all, the bartender at this concourse A at EWR was almost hostile, unwelcoming... bar was not full i was using an extra stool for my purse when he came over touched my luggage and moved it behind my chair, then told hastily to take my bag off the extra stool next to my seat. Now realized he did not even greet me when I approached; thus, the unwelcoming behavior at the outset. He did not approach me nor look at my direction until almost a good 5 minutes later when i finally called him for service. Shame that it was centrally located along other bars/restaurants in A terminal but with this unfriendly attitude-even the two ladies sitting a few chairs on my left looked unhappy and almost hesitant as they were also told to keep their purses off the stools next to them. Gentleman to my right was alone and friendly and tried to engage me in a conversation but it felt awkward-it was simply a bad vibe. I took only a few bites of my turkey sandwich which was bland and overpriced for the quality $29, my brut was $22, so that over $50 stop was the worst layover drink/bite i've ever had. Luckily or unluckily, depending on which to look at it, my terminal switched back to C--and by the way had better options? maybe. At this point however, i've lost my appetite. Definitely one of the worst airport lounge experience..

(And that ATM machine at the corner? It looks like it'll not only steal your identity but your soul as well.) My last visit (2023-ish) I tried their 'combo' (one hot dog, one sausage) which was... okay. But when they're slinging a double Italian hot dog? They're firing on all cylinders. Tommy's is not shy to pile a wicked amount of grub into that pizza bread. The hot dogs kind of get lost under a mountain of deep-fried and oily (but delicious) sliced spuds. (I do wish they weren't so stingy with the peppers and onions to really balance out the meal.) The 'Holy Trinity' when it comes to Italian hot dogs in North Jersey is a no-brainer... Dickie Dee's, Jimmy Buff's and Tommy's. (For me - no one comes close to Dickie Dee's but my one kid said Tommy's was his [current] fave.) As for that couple that came cashless? A good Samaritan behind me pulled out a wad of cash (it's not wise to pull out a fistful of cash anywhere you go but it's ESPECIALLY not wise when you're in the rough and tumble streets of Elizabeth, let's be real) and after swapping Venmo information everything was a-okay. Take-out/to-go only. Parking is atrocious. Guy behind the glass - always aces. (Oh, and... cash only!)

I've had the sausage/dog combo before that's like an Italian Dog and I loved it but I had never just had some good old doggies here so I grabbed a couple. Went with 1 with red onions and mustard and 1 with chili, diced onion, and mustard. I love red onions, just a big nostalgia thing to my youth getting dogs in Coney Island at Nathan's. These onions were tasty. The chili wasn't what I was expecting but the crunch from the diced onion was welcomed. The rolls tasted fresh and the dogs had a fantastic snap and delicious flavor. No surprise here - Tommy's - Didn't Suck!

We grabbed a couple of sandwiches from Jersey Mikes to snack on for the trip home, we weren't the only ones but persistent and early arrival paid off after about 30 minutes we had our meals and were set for the flight. Service was good I gotta say they are some sandwich masters they never stopped making then while we were there. Certainly added some comfort to our flight home.

Don't ask me why the reviews for Jersey Mikes in Terminal A of Newark Airport are so low…read more Jersey Mike's are good everywhere at every location I have been to. They were completely lovely at Newark Airport. I was very very happy to have my Philadelphia Cheesesteak from Jersey Mike's. It was a fine sandwich. It was actual food - which is not always what you get when you eat at the airport. My trip home had been rancid up to that point - and turned good from Jersey Mike's on afterward. It could be that Jersey Yelpers are fussy. I would not rule that out. I am often blown away by the sheer hostility of Yelp Reviews I read coming out of New York City. However, there may be a sense in which both me and the Newark Airport Jersey Mike Haters have some basis for agreement. * * * The most common complaint here is that people don't like the freshness of the ingredients. I had a hot sub - a cheesesteak. If vegetables such as lettuce, tomatoes or peppers are not as fresh as they could be - that would be a non-issue on a cheesesteak or a meatball sub that doesn't get lettuce, tomatoes or peppers. So if you want to be super-cautious - order from the hot food side of the menu. * * * The other issue is serving time or hostility from servers. I have encountered such issues at Newark Airport although not from this particular Jersey Mikes. The one time i was not served because i was Jewish (this was a pretty clear case) was at a food service establishment at Newark Airport. That "can" be a local management issue ... if say a shift supervisor or a set of people working on the same shift all see eye to eye on certain issues. So some of the stories in other reviews about people of a certain ethnicity being treated badly "might" be true. BUT Those issues change when the shift supervisor changes or when a shift team changes. Turnover at a fast food place at an airport is sky high. The same people are not likely to be around two years later or one year later or even six months later. If I was a customer experience supervisor at Jersey Mike's (or more probably, a customer experience supervisor at the hospitality industry subcontractor that runs the various brand name restaurants at Newark Airport) I would look into such Yelp reviews to see if anything is going on. However, as a customer, I would not be worried about such experiences replicating.
