Eggs Benedict at 3fe in Dublin.
Sara C.

So good that even after getting locked in the bathroom, I still give 3fe five stars. More on that a little later. We decided to give 3fe a try upon a friend's recommendation for their coffee. Initially, we only thought we would get coffee but found out that they had a fantastic brunch that started at 10 on the weekend. I decided to get their ginger tea and their black pudding breakfast. The tea came out in a delightfully colorful pot, steamy and fragrant. The black pudding breakfast turned out to be quite hearty, with potatoes galore, spinach and poached eggs all smothered in creamy hollandaise sauce. Really, really goooood. Before we headed out, I decided to go to the bathroom. However, when I tried to get out... The lock had jammed. I was trapped and banged on the door for a bit until someone heard me and helped get me out by sliding some oil underneath the door. Freedom! Regardless... Super friendly and helpful staff and delicious drinks and food. Highly recommended.

Stopped in here for breakfast. Interesting options, tasty, beautifully plated. I very much enjoyed eating here and would suggest you check in out. I am taking away a star for two reasons. No public WiFi and the bathroom was in need of some attention.

Pretty cute little coffee shop we have here. It seems like a fun place to relax or catch up with friends. The menu was a bit hard to read. Almost like a ransom note with the way the letters and words were placed and spaced out. I got a decaf cappucino and it was quite tasty. The coffee itself was very smooth. I usually don't get cappucinos but I liked the heaviness of the milk here.

Such a cute and friendly place!

Crowded even during the midday. The employees are so nice! They helped me pick out a coffee to take home as there are packaged beans from South America and Africa. The flat white is delicious, and the brownie is VERY rich. I'm definitely saving some for later, lest I get diabetes in one sitting. The place is very stylish and hipster, but without the pretentious attitude. This may be my favorite little cafe in Dublin!

great cappuccino

great authentic coffee... perfect start in the day! Awesome peoples behind the bar! Great food. Bit pricy but really worth the money for the quality served! Keep this - you are great!!

Don't use the side door. You will be in that awkward position of feverishly wrestling with a door handle with a pained look on your face as the coffee drinkers look at you like a fly repeatedly flying into glass. I got the filter coffee for €3 and the sweet potato, goat cheese and pomegranate open sandwich for €5.50. I really enjoyed the sandwich, great combination of flavours and textures. If a sandwich has the possibility of being refreshing then that sandwich is. Coffee menu on the table. Short menu of coffees and I think I get the Costa Rica one "tastes like toffee". As Susan said the layout is minimal and you do feel like you are in a minimalist's wet dream. As I have said before I am a fan of minimal but sometimes it can be quite intimidating to people. Staff were very pleasant and friendly. Music was at a good volume and of course hip. Clientele is of the upwardly mobile variety... Unlike me, I am downwardly stagnant.

Like this variation!

Fiddlesticks, I wish I could give this place less than a five star. Why? I dunno, to stand out from the crowd? Or is it the Irish begrudger lurking deep within me? Or is it more the 'that place actually CAN'T be as good as everyone says, the dopes' buzz... Either way. 3Fe, you foiled me! Superb from beginning to end is how I'd describe the place. The lads are on the ball - quick with their service but also friendly, smiley and they clearly know their s*it. I am actually not a coffee drinker, so in contrast to most other reviewers here, my review is actually on the food. (I also had peppermint tea which was served loose leaf in a proper teapot - not always the norm let me tell ya) I had the haloumi salad which came with large chunks of gorgeous haloumi (from Macroom of all places!), spinach, fenel, perfectly toasted hazelnuts, and the piece de resistance, balsamic roast peaches. It was just the perfect combination of sweet, savoury, textures & colours. I would eat it every day if I could.

I'm sitting here at one of the very minimalistic metal pipe and wood plank tables on the window bench writing this on my iPhone :) the second location for the locally famous Third Floor Espresso in Dublin is quite a treat for those of us over on the southside. especially those of us who live 2 minutes walk away now :D my coffeeholic friend is over the moon! it's the same format as their original location and the coffee is just as tasty. the staff is nice and friendly. the decor is... un-distracting :) it's sparse and does the job but you really wouldn't wanna come here to sit and work on your laptop all afternoon. iPhone for 15 minutes sure, but after a while your bum would be numb! my only complaint really is that they only offer whole cow's milk. that's fine if that's their thing, but on a day like today when I'm dying for a cappuccino and don't want the mucus assault from dairy products, having the option of soya woulda been nice. but that's just me being the California hippie transplant with my need of alternative milk products... hehe

This was once of the best cappuccinos I've ever had.... if you still need more convincing to come here then okay. I got the scrambled eggs, great portions. I left feeling full and healthy! Really friendly staff and inviting atmosphere. I highly recommend giving this cafe a visit

It's hipster and I bloody love it. Honestly, this place is fantastic and I highly recommend stopping by. Whether it be for your morning coffee and Facetime with your baby-faced-assassin little brother (me) or for a hearty breakfast/brunch that looks incredible (everyone else), 3FE offers the lot. I can only attest for the taste of the coffee as I didn't eat anything off the menu, however the Macchiato was perfect, like really as good as it gets in coffee terms - not too much milk froth but just enough to help it down. The atmosphere, is laid back and has a real hip vibe and in all truth, you wouldn't be amiss thinking you had stepped into a San Fransisco coffee joint, with the creative layout and casual ambience. 3FE nails it.

Occasionally, I'll come across a faded good review clipped from a newspaper hanging on the wall of a cafe. 3FE has a shelf filled with trophies from the Irish barista championships instead. This is one of a number of signs that suggest that 3FE is not simply another cafe. With a bright, airy and almost industrial interior, and the hum of conversation, traffic and tunes in the air, this is the most recent incarnation of 3FE. A micro roastery in a third floor apartment became a shared space in a bookstore on Middle Abbey Street, and finally a standalone cafe / retail space on Grand Canal Street. The location has changed over the last year or two, but the quality of coffee is as good as ever. There is a good retail section, with a large selection of coffees from a number of different regions. Different brewing methods are catered for also - I saw an Aeropress and a Chemex woodneck on display. Both are good alternatives to espresso based drinks, with the Chemex using a paper filter to give a clean extraction, and the Aeropress using a partial vacuum to extract flavour. As always, I started with a single espresso shot. An espresso shot tells me a lot about the quality of coffee in any cafe - for example, whether or not the beans are fresh. Despite its deceptively simple appearance, a good shot is the product of a number of different variables - grind size, extraction time and pressure. Getting it right is not simply a question of pushing a button and hoping for the best - so a well executed shot speaks volumes about the barista - it's the end result of hours of practice, and patience. The espresso shot arrived with a dark red / brown crema, which I associate with freshly roasted beans. The volume was somewhere between a ristretto and an espresso - this tells me that the extraction time was correct, which gives a shot that is not too bitter (under extracted) or harsh (over extracted). There was a smooth, rich flavour which reminded me of brown sugar or licorice, with no harsh or burnt notes, and a syrupy, not astringent, mouthfeel - everything I look for in a well executed shot. The cappuccino that I ordered paired velvety smooth microbubbles with the underlying coffee character of the shot above. The espresso is not drowned out by the steamed milk - it's still there - but it is complemented by the smoothness of the foam. The end result is a hybrid of potent espresso tempered by smoothness. One thing that I noticed (apart from the well executed latte art) is that the barista asked if I wanted one or two espresso shots - this is a nice touch, allowing different tastes and preferences to be catered for. There is also a drip bar, for anyone who prefers pourover coffees, with three different blends (la pira, la perla and mugera) on the menu. Small details can also tell me a lot about a cafe - the weighing scale on the counter is a good example. This suggests that specific weights of ground coffee are used for each type of coffee bean - it's another indication of time and effort spent to produce quality coffee. The staff deserve a special mention also, engaged and knowledgeable about coffee, a passion for what they do shines through. Good things happen when people follow their passion - the proof was sitting on the table in front of me, in the form of a perfect espresso shot.

Coffee like the Viennese do it (with the water), but way better (actually tastes good, unlike in Austria)

San-Francisco-style coffee in Dublin. I think this town just got 100% better. I work with a bunch of serious coffee snobs, and therefore have become one myself. The guys at the office get their beans from 3Fe now, which is high praise, so I had to check them out (that, and the jet lag coming in from California was hitting me pretty hard). This place is the real deal: you pick the origin of your beans; they make you a fantastic cup of coffee, in which you taste the *beans*, not just some awful dark roast whose bitterness you then try to drown in milk and sugar. The place to go if you drink coffee because you like the taste. Or just because you're homesick for CA. N.B.: No soy milk, and that's by choice, since they say it brings the overall quality down. Normally I'd deduct a star for that, but to be fair, they say they'd rather not serve cow milk, either -- but apparently the market demands it. I guess this quasi-vegan will just have to stick with their fantastic black coffee.

The first day we arrived to Dublin, I had a bit of a headache. I sent my husband in search of coffee and a bite in the hopes of warding off the headache. He brought back a tuna melt and mocha from The Bald Barista. Both were excellent. The tuna melt was herbaceous and flavorful and the mocha was the perfect blend or rich chocolate and strong espresso. So, a few days later when my mom arrived and was hoping for coffee and a bite, I said--I've got just the place! On that visit, we enjoyed our coffee and food in house. You order at the counter where you enter and if you're dining in, you simply take the stairs to the dining room and they'll bring you both your food and coffee. This time, I ordered the same coffee (why mess with a good thing) and a yogurt with everything (fruit, nuts, seeds--the works!). The shop itself is cute, warm, and inviting. The service is top notch with beautifully friendly folks working in here (including the Bald Barista himself). If you're in Dublin and are looking for an exemplary cuppa and some tasty bites served with a smile--this is your spot. Get to it!

They prepare and serve up coffee as a city better than any other city in the world. Sorry Seattle, Portland, its the truth. As a full fledge coffee nerd/snob I am looking for great coffee nothing more. Also if they don't roast their own beans and they are just serving someone else's coffee they will never get above a 3 star from me. I am looking strictly at the coffee and the customer service in my reviews. Accents was fantastic. When I walked in the Barista, a pretty little red headed Irish woman was doing some spectacular latte art on a Mocha, she smiled and asked me what I would like. I order just a regular Latte. They do not roast their own beans, but she was out of coffee in the grinder, she reached for a new sealed bag and I caught the name, McCabe's. I was unfamiliar so afterward I looked them up. here is the link if anyone is interested. (https://mccabecoffee.com) Local award winning Cork roaster. I watched the Barista, fill the grinder and then told me it would be a minute as she needed to dial in the espresso. I shook my head in a circle like I didn't get it but okay. She had it dialed in after 3 shots. looked like 18 in and 36 out. She was a pro, steamed my milk while the shot pulled in about 24 seconds. I ordered my drink to go but it was still presented with great art and a smile. Told me where the sugar and lids were but suggested I tried it before i added anything, that the espresso is very good. I tasted it and said, "You are right, needs nothing" and it didn't. BEST LATTE I HAVE HAD THIS TRIP TO DUBLIN. I am breaking my own rule here, I can because they are my rules, they don't roast but they use fantastic local Micro-roasted beans and prepare my drink to perfection. Don't miss this little gem the in Dublin. 5 Stars.
