Great! I read lists of all the (alleged) best coffee shops in Dublin and have been disappointed until coming here! Also the food is the best I had in Dublin on my week trip. And that includes Michelan star restaurants! I had the green eggs & ham and an oat milk cappuccino -- by far the BEST coffee I have ever had in Dublin. I have a confession. This place is just around the corner from where I live. It continuously tops a certain well known Dublin foodie guide for coffee in our Fair City. I am a self confessed coffee junkie. Yet this is only the second time I have visited the place. Why? I first came here over a year ago. Americano to go. And I hated it. Coffee in paper cups never tastes as good when it's drank from a good solid mug/cup. Allowances are made. But the coffee served to me was luke warm and had a weird mild taste. Flavoured mucky water was the only way I could describe it and I was convinced the machine must have been broken. However, having tried the 3fe coffee served in other establishments around the city, I came to the conclusion that the taste of these particular beans/brew just wasn't for me. Each to their own. And I'll admit I like my Starbucks. So it was with some trepidation that I approached this establishment again, early morning just before the inevitable work crowd arrived. The staff were lovely and advised me of the choice of coffee on offer. I went for the Nicaragua-farmed Los placeres (€3.50).....in a cup please. This place is cool. Impossibly cool. I could be in Berlin. Yet there's a real nice vibe, no sense of out-of-place awkwardness I inevitable get in some of these uber-hipster-cool places I've been in previously. I sit on one of the wooden window benches, table-peg-number in hand. Fresh flowers are brought to the table, in juxtaposition to the industrial wood and steel table and chairs. Afro rock music plays. My coffee arrives a few minutes later. Holy cr@p, this is good. Smooth, full-body flavour good. My only gripe being it could have been a little hotter. And the price. At €3.50 this is one of the more expensive americanos I've had. So will I be returning? Yes. I take it all back. I get it. Finally. 3fe is a mecca for coffee in not just Ireland and the world. I've been to enough cities and have seeked out the best coffee in each and 3fe stands shoulder to shoulder if not exceeds them all. I deduct one point only for the food. The last two times I've been in for a sandwich and the sandwich itself was a letdown, esp for the price paid. The bread should rarely be the main feature in a sandwich, should always play a supporting role (boom boom) the bap bread they use is far too thick I ended up pulling out all the doughy bits so I could get some purchase on the undoubtedly lovely filling. 3FE is the perfect embodiment of the gourmet coffee trend sweeping Dublin, and not for nothing. The baristas really know their stuff, and 3FE does serve complex and interesting coffee beans, artfully roasted right in Dublin. The space is big and airy, with both indoor and outdoor seating, and gets quite crowded. It did seem a bit dirty all over when we visited, but maybe that was just owing to the crowds. The menu is rather limited and they were out of the oatmeal when I went, so instead I went with the granola and house-made compote with yogurt. Delicious! My food and my coffee- I'm sorry to say I'm not savvy enough to remember what concoction of coffee I got, see the photo!- were both beautifully served and delicious. Good to the very last drop. This place is always trending so I had to go there. I was there for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. It was packed - of course - but we were lucky enough to get a table as some other people were just leaving. The noise level was too high. The place is cool, staff are lovely but it is not a place to catch up w/ a fried. The menu was short but I looked around to see what other people were eating and I spotted some beautiful cornered beef. I went for it and is was absolutely delicious. My friend ordered a brownie and they gave him 2 pieces of each because it was too small, according to them. It wasnt small at all, I swear. The coffee was really good - we had a set tray with a shot of classic expresso and a small capuccino. The food here was superp I'd come back because of that. Walked all the way here to try one of the top and best cafes in Dublin, and to my surprise, it really was pretty good. The coffee roast was a bit strong for me, even though it was quite smooth. The brunch however, I LOVED. I got the corn fritters with avocado, bacon, poached eggs and vege. The portion was massive! And absolutely delicious! I felt bad that I couldn't finish it because of my small appetite in the early mornings. But I truly loved it! Also managed to spot Eric Bana having a cuppa there so I'm sure 3FE is good for even the likes of celebrities! The cafe is pricey though. Everything I got in total was about €16. Finally! Great coffee! My partner and I went on a Sunday morning for brunch. Not surprisingly, the place was quite busy but we managed to snag the only remaining table (ok, I sort of pounced on it as soon as the previous occupiers stood up). Service was lovely, as was the coffee and food. I had the fried green tomatoes with egg and bacon on a brioche bun and my partner, green eggs and ham. I'd give 5 starts based on the fact that they served green eggs and ham alone! Food was delicious, quite large serves and I wasn't able to finish my brunch (a rarity for me!) I like that the menu has all of 4 items to choose from, and the great care they take in the cooking and presentation of the food shows. After a few more coffees over continued comments like 'reminds me of Melbourne' and 'this is the best coffee I've had since leaving Melbourne!' we left begrudgingly, but happily buzzed on the amount of coffee consumed. I read about 3Fe on a few travel blogs and was excited to try their coffee when I arrived in Dublin. 3Fe is located in lovely area with stone houses and brightly colored doors. Typically, I would dock a star for less-than-comfortable seating (or in the case of our recent heat wave, lack of air conditioning) or how their card machine is only for purchases of €5 or more, but with everything else it offers I just can't - I love coming here. They have a variety of new coffees every time I'm in, and their Espresso and Filter sets make for a very casual cupping course. The baristas are friendly and can give sommelier-esque descriptions of what coffee they have on hand that week. I learn about coffee; I learn about myself. They have copies of Barista magazine to peruse as well, for those interested in the culture of what happens before you're handed your cuppa. What can I say about 3fe that hasn't been said already ... Fantastic coffee! Second time here today and I tried the tasting trio , which is a board of 3 coffees espresso latte and a filtered coffe. The espresso was lovely with a tip of sugar dropped in. And the latte was fantastic as well. Wasn't mad on the filtered coffee but that's down to personal taste and not it being bad. Waitress really knew her stuff about the coffee , was really impressive , and se was very friendly :) , good experience all round. read more

YAY! A place where I can start to love coffee, and it is so close to my house and office that I don't have to trek miles to enjoy this simple pleasure. Now, I'm no coffee snob. Hell, I barely have a sense of smell or taste, but the beans that this fine establishment serve wake up those fine nerve endings every time. Sometimes, it is the small things in life. I go in about once a day, get a filter coffee (cuz I think espressos are weak shadows of their coarse ground counterparts) and chat with the really friendly staff. I get 2 things out of this: a mid-afternoon caffeine infusion, and out of the office for 30 minutes. Fantastic way to do both. You know how you can't go wrong with this place? Talking to the people behind the counter. They are knowledgeable about their product and have... verve (is that even what I'm thinking...) about coffee and how it is served. I was here for lunch about a month ago and first impressions were that the food is great and also very expensive. I asked for a soop, a sandwich, a tea and an expresso for later (because everyone says that the coffee is so good here I really wanted to try and that was the main reason I was there, I'm that addicted...) I was also with a friend that brought something to eat and just asked for a cappuccino... We then went to seat outside and when the food arrived (delicious I must say! The soop and also the sandwich) one of the waiters said that we could not be eating food from other places because it was rude... I said that we were still waiting for another person that was also having lunch there and asked if they could let us be just for this time and the guy said OK. After 10m another waiter came by and said the same thing "we already warned..." Bla bla... Wtf!? At this time I was eating my sandwich and my other friend was already eating as well... That's 2 persons having lunch and another that just ordered a cappuccino... We tried to explain but this waiter was really rude...We took our things and before leaving I went inside and asked for my expresso to go... It was crap... Completely toasted.... Left it on the table and we left... In all this confusion, my friend forgot her purse near the table and had to come back to get it, luckily the purse was still there... And that was the last time we ever went back there! Never again! You should learn marketing and be more intelligent. The coffee was horrible but the food is awesome, I would definitely come back and recommend it for that... But with this crappy service.... My partner went to a very cool coffee experience night in 3FE last year with work and has been raving about it since. And he doesn't even drink any hot beverages, ever. So passing by last week we went in for a quick break. I ordered the filter coffee of the day. My partner a can of cola. The interior is pretty cool and hip. It wouldn't be out of place in Brooklyn. For 3EUR it was a small cup of coffee whose flavour didn't really suit my tastes. It could have been hotter too. Maybe I need the 3FE master-class to learn about the process and technicalities to appreciate the product. But off the street it was just meh. read more

Having been to the Twisted Pepper several times before it got really popular and then painted white, we popped into 3Fe on Saturday morning for what my hubby would call "preckfast". ( pre-breakfast ) I had a scone with almonds on it which was gorgeous, but hubby had the brownie because he doesn't like nuts, and there was nothing else on offer. We both ordered the trio, and it was good, but just wasn't hot enough. The coffee came about 10 mins after our food, so we had finished our treats before the coffee arrived. Everyone else in the place was getting their coffee served up, despite coming in after us. We ended up drinking all 3 really fast just so we could have them warm. The staff are knowledgeable, and we were offered two types of coffee to try, which we accepted and glad we did as it was interesting to note the differences between them. I found the seating a bit uncomfortable. It's very "industrial looking", not really a place to sit and read or waste an afternoon in. I will go back, if only because the coffee IS good when its hot, and the caramel brownies are probably the best thing on this planet. read more

Third Floor Espresso opened a "stand-alone" coffee bar in 2011 on Grand Canal Street. There's not really a store sign, instead, the whole front is painted in black. So, you either have to read Yelp or, like in my case, sit to a stranger on a plane who raves about that place. There you go. One of the beauties of this place is that it's off the beaten track. There are some more coffee bars in the neighborhood (Art of Coffee, Il Valentino, Starbucks) but 3Fe is not for the mainstream. In fact, coffee here is celebrated as an art, and attention is paid to the small things. I don't exaggerate but it's the finest coffee I tasted in Dublin (filter: 3 Euro). I also tried a slice of delicious Orange Bread (2,50). The quality of the coffee reminded me of a sip I once had in Vancouver... and that's a good thing. Unfortunately, the store closes at 6pm and offers no free wifi. Maybe that's something to change for the future -- they recently decided to extend the hours to Sunday. read more

I've been coming to them for a while now and I can only say great things about them. The first time I had a 3FE coffee I felt like I'd been smacked in the mouth. It's delicious - like a dessert in a cup, it's so tasty. This isn't the kind of place I'd linger too long - the seats are a little hard, and the outdoor area is a little sparse, but it's definitely worth the journey for one of their flat whites. It's nice for a quick catch up with a pal. The staff and owners really believe in good technique and practices, and they're really interested in the product - Barista magazine is generally hanging around, as is a wealth of other coffee literature. What you have to bear in mind here is that the 3FE crew are beyond coffee addicts, they're coffee FANATICS. This means that your cuppa jo is the product of a rare art-form, comprised of the barista's blood, sweat and tears to ensure each serving is supremely sublime and unquestionably better than the rest*. However, this also means that 3FE seat themselves on the high-chair of milk governance. The only liquid accompaniment that you are permitted to add to your coffee is whole milk; no semi-skimmed, no soya, no syrups, no exceptions. They have pretty good sweet treats too. I'd say this is a nice spot to go for a casual 1on1 work meeting, or an ideal place to bring any friend who prides themself in their love of coffee. *Note: 9 times out of 10 there will not be actual blood/sweat/tears in your beverage read more

Place is lovey. The decorations and the outdoor area. Staff and the owners are very professional and easy going. I remember how much 3fe was supporting the referendum for the equality. The only things I am not a big fun of is that there's no soy milk, and the cups having one size. I order once (as there's no soy) peppermint tea. I left the tea bag for a while. Believe the hype. It's a little hipster (though not Williamsburg or SF hipster). The music is a little loud. The employees are very friendly, and the coffee is really, really good. I've been a bit disappointed with the coffee I've had in London and Dublin, but this shop has restored my faith. Had a very tasty scrambled egg breakfast, as well. 3Fe was a short walk from the Schoolhouse Hotel where we stayed our first night in Dublin. The breakfast menu is limited and I didn't see a posted drink menu so I went with a classic latte. I opted for the green eggs and ham (essentially eggs benedict with Guinness bread) except I'm not a fan of ham and they kindly substituted it for bacon. The bread in particular was amazing. The coffee is very impressive and you can see where their reputation has come from. The place is bright, cool, modern and it's a generally positive atmosphere! The staff are friendly . I've only ever got a flat white (3 or 4 times) and I have noticed slight fluctuations in the temperature of the coffee. In terms of flavor and texture it is really good but often it is not as hot as it should be. If it is hot though it's definitely up there with the bald barista /fixx and coffeeangel. My favorite cafe I've found since moving to Dublin. The cafe is smaller, and space is sometimes limited, but people are usually moving in and out so a table/space will open up within 5-10 minutes. Atmosphere is modern/hip coffee scene. Lots of people come here to meet friends, meet professionally, or come with family. House music is on the stereo, which means it is maybe not your sounds to study to. For me, it is okay. Wifi is solid. Coffee is all good. The food is excellent. Just had the fish tacos today, which were excellent. Scones are delicious with a side of jam. Staff is very attentive and quick to make orders. Will definitely go to this cafe often while I stay in Dublin 2, and recommend it to anyone who wants a good cafe to pop into for lunch and coffee. read more

I had heard from a friend that 3fe was the best coffee in Dublin so I had to check it out. The cafe is very minimalist inside making use of natural light and industrial recycled seating make of wood and metal pipes. Nice place if you want to read a book/the paper or work on some homework or write a blog. The menu is not very descriptive, so you have to have some coffee knowledge before going in. The staff we had were no nonsense and made it seem like they were more busy than they actually were. I ordered a cappuccino and it took a while for it to get to my table. The espresso was strong and tasted great but the milk was not foamed enough for my taste. I also expected a larger cup for €3. Overall it was alright, but I expected much more based on everything I had heard about it.
