Great ambiance, subtle lighting and generous tables. Appetizers were ok but nothing I'd order again. The dinner was spectacular. Mine was the french onion beef tenderloin which was made a skillet with mashed potatoes, french onion soup, beef tenderloin, bread and smoothered in cheese. YUM! Dessert was not great. I was very happy with 3 West and def recommend. I was a little worried because some of their reviews are inconsistent, but it was very happy with my visit. We came in on a Tuesday night, and we did have a reservation. We had to wait a little and we waited at the bar. The bartender was nice and they had a lot of cool drinks. We sat down a few minutes later, and ordered the cheese biscuits, the Brie and the shrimp spring roles. They had a lot of good appetizers so we could t decide! Lol the Brie was amazing and I def recommend!! It's a must! The biscuits were really good too, and the husband said the spring roles were good. This restaurant is located in a 'strip mall' but don't let that turn you away. It is very nice inside. We've been to 3 West a few times and each time the service and food are always terrific. We have sat at the bar and also had dinner in the back dining room. The menu is small, but there is something for everyone and it is kept seasonal so each time you go back, you can expect small changes to keep things interesting.  We are fans of the bar and available "by the glass" wines and special cocktails. They also have the seasonal soup of the day and a few apps. I am a 'light' eater so I selected the carrot/ginger soup. We try to stay away from meat, etc so we opted for the 'grain bowl' and few other items from the apps which were more than generous! We stick to simpler things like the flat breads also and each visit they seem to change the toppings up a bit.  This is part of the Harvest Group of restaurants and we are fans of most all of them. read more

I came here for a company team dinner in July2019. We only had seven (7) people in our party. Service was oddly slow. Bread was never brought to the table. No refills. To Ms. Donovan and her fantastic team (including Sebastian), I want to reach out and thank you for the tremendous job you did with my family last week at the 3 West Restaurant in Basking Ridge. It was my sister's wedding weekend and my family flocked to the area. I believe that during the weekend, different family groups went to your restaurant at different times. You had the Bride/Groom; the Bride's Family and later on extended family (uncles, grandmother, aunt etc). Everyone enjoyed their meals and the staff. I want to especially thank you as my mother has many allergies and it is often very difficult for her to feel at ease at restaurants. You personally coming to the table and assuring her that the restaurant was aware of her allergies and what the restaurant did to assist was amazing. You also made recommendations for food based on the odds of cross contamination which was so thoughtful. My family loved the meal and my mother felt at ease- which took a lot of pressure off myself and the Bride to be. I want to also thank waitstaff Sebastian for being extremely attentive. He also had knowledge of the menu and cross-contamination and was extremely helpful.We will of course be recommending the restaurant to our friends and colleagues and I am very curious to try other restaurant's in the Harvest Family such as the Roots Steakhouse and Trap Rock.Thank you again. I've been here many times, mostly for work related dinners. Food is presented beautifully but is rather bland. Atmosphere is great. Seasonal drinks are always fun. I have been to the restaurant few times whenever I visit the area. The biggest turnoff is their waitresses will push you to select most expensive items on the menu. And they will push to select appetizers, drinks, deserts etc even when you politely say no. They are persistent esp when you are with clients. It's very obvious that all they care is to make the bill high - really dont care what is good or recommend based on your preferences. My most recent visit (yesterday), I told the server that I am not looking for a heavy entree and her comments were "...just eat as much as you want...company is paying for it!!!" And the food is okay for the price. I will avoid the place till they train their staff to be not pushy and serve what customer wants and not push the most expensive items on the menu. read more

While the food wasn't too bad, I would rave about it! The Servers were great, but we waited almost an hour and a half for our food. The ambience was the best part of the meal. I had an iced tea, that looked like the tea bag did a drive by dip. It was so weak, it almost looked like water. Well, 3 West completes my tour of all the Harvest Group restaurants. The Huntley Taverne. Roots. Urban Table. Tabor Road Taverne. Grato. Trap Rock Brewery. I've now hit all of them. 3 West refers to itself as "the mini Huntley," and I can definitely see the comparison, both in terms of the menu and the decor. Still, Huntley remains my favorite. In general, I'm skeptical of restaurants in strip malls, but I overlooked that knowing what we were in store for. With the exception of Urban Table, I've always had a positive experience at each of the other Harvest restaurants. The menu is near identical to what I would expect at Huntley. I did notice the date was not listed on the menu, unlike at Huntley, so I'm not sure whether 3 West changes its menu up daily like Huntley supposedly does. Either way, the theme is very similar. We started with the appetizer trio (boneless baby back ribs, crab cakes, shrimp spring rolls for $19.95). Each of the apps was delicious, but the ribs were a little cold. I appreciate their effort to remove the bones from the ribs, but I kind of would have preferred they left them attached. Why would you want to deal with the hassle, you ask? Well, if the ribs were cooked properly, which they were, there would be no hassle since the meat would fall right off the bone. Plus, everything tastes better on the bone! For entrees, we got the "mid-course" portion of pappardelle with roast cauliflower, short rib, sage pesto, ricotta cheese, kale, garlic and EVOO ($11.95). Very good, very filling and more than enough if you've already had an appetizer and have dessert in your dinner forecast. We also got the Cioppino (monkfish, shrimp, mussels, scallops, assorted vegetables, tomato & fennel broth, grilled filone) ($26.95). Their take on a bouillabaisse, I suppose. It was good, but the seafood probably needed more time to absorb the flavors of the broth). We also got a side of the housemade truffle fries ($7.95), which is a must as far as I'm concerned. The complimentary bread was delicious, and the service was excellent, as it usually is at Harvest restaurants, but the "team" service concept remains somewhat annoying to me, mainly because if your two servers don't communicate, you may get asked the same question twice as we did, such as "can I get you something to drink?" Turns out the cocktails were already on their way when server 1/2 (or 2/2) asked what we wanted. In the end, though, I can appreciate why management employs this concept. They take customer service pretty seriously and it shows. If I'm in the area, I'll go back, but Huntley is closer to me and still has a leg up over "mini" Huntley. read more

First time: Came here for lunch. Hostess was very friendly and seated me quickly. I started with lobster bisque, not bad but not great either. It had a grainy texture like a bit of shell was puréed. There were no bits of lobster and only 1 tiny rock shrimp. I've had better. For my main I had a ribeye sandwich. It was so oily and greasy, the bun and meat were soaked and the steak was under seasoned (needed some salt and pepper!) I had high hopes because I love Huntley tavern and they're in the same restaurant group, but it didn't meet my expectations. Service was friendly and prompt. Food- not great. I won't be back Update: I came again for dinner with a coworker because it's near my office and we both had the salmon. Summer gourmet dinner at 3 West! The menu is perfect for a summer meal. The food is fresh and tastefully seasoned. We had a watermelon lemonade and gin infused peach greentea. Barrata and tomato, crab louie, creamy new england clam chowder. Dinner included an all american hamburger, truffle fries peach barbeque chicken and mashed potatoes and pan seared salmon with grilled peach salsa and macaroni and cheese. Can't say enough about the high quality tasteful dinner. In addition, the managers, wait staff and hostesses were very friendly and helpful. I'm ecstatic to know about 3 West. Ultimately it's a restaurant that's a bit on the "nicer" side (don't show up in your sweats or yoga pants) with incredible food and an ambiance that makes you feel like you should make cool business deals or be some type of sharp shooter when you walk in. AKA a lot of dark woods, wine rack walls, specially designed ceilings, and brick accents. Food is American New and delicious. Dinners are mainly in the $22-$29 range and lunch entrees in the teens. Portions are solid, and really everything I had was delicious. Pork belly and pear flatbread was perfectly sweet and salty. Fried calamari salad was a wonderfully dressed salad with lots of arugula and flavor plus a boatload of crispy but not oily calamari. Salmon was cooked beautifully served on a surprisingly generous bed of broccoli rabe. I was also pleasantly surprised here that the cream sauce was served under the dish instead of heavily over it so you could manage your flavors. Dessert presented me a trio tasting with my work event's pre-set menu. The vanilla ice cream was magical (I'm an ice cream gal) with a potato chip side (again with sweet and salty - yum), chocolate cake was rich and decadent, and apple crumb had a great oatmeal cinnamon crumb though maybe just a bit less actual apple then I personally prefer. Service was especially professional and attentive. We had a private room for a work dinner and never felt forgotten. Strongly recommend if you have a group of 12ish or fewer and want a private space. read more

3 West - Dessert trio from a set menu group event - yummm - New American Near Me - Basking Ridge, New Jersey

I come at this from the perspective of someone who dines out, when I do dine out, at unglamorous establishments like Benny Tudino's or No. 1 Hoboken Chinese, or even Rutt's Hut. If you see me in a high-end restaurant, someone else is usually picking up the tab. Usually a relative or a close friend. Not that I'm a freeloader, or especially indigent. When I try to pay my own way in these establishments, the relative/friend, knowing of my relative penury, will invariably say, "Your money is no good here. Put your money back in your pocket." I protest...honest...but it's almost always in vain. After thanking them, I'm tempted to say, "Ok, but next time we grab something at the White Manna, or Grubbs Take Away, I'm picking up the tab." I don't know if 3 West would be considered "high-end" by midtown Manhattan standards, but it's pretty "high-end" by my more prosaic ones. It's located in a mini-mall style location called "Riverwalk Village," not far from where I live. There's a Starbucks in the mall, which may have been enough to elevate the mall to "high-end" status all by itself back in the day. (Starbucks seems kind of commonplace and ordinary at this point in time). I should note--- the parking at this mall is horrendous. If you're not coming here during an off-hour, you're taking your life into your hands walking from your vehicle to the store/restaurant of your choice. There's additional parking in the back, but you're liable to get clipped walking from the back to the front of the mall. Take it from me; I speak from experience. Inside, the restaurant is dark. And when I say dark-- I mean, very dark. Still, the setting isn't off-putting. I found the crackling fire place charming, even if it didn't provide much in the way of illumination. My night-vision sucks, but as long as I can see the menu, and the food on the plate, what's the problem? No problem at all. I knew if I offered to pay, I was going to be refused (with love, of course-- I don't have a ton of friends, but those I have are very good ones), so I decided to order the cheapest item on the menu, which was a "3 West Cheddar Burger," served with "Harvest Rib-eye Blend, Lettuce, Tomato, Pickles, Rosemary Aioli, Brioche Bun, Frites." (I'm still not sure what "Aioli" is...sounds like "Rosemary Aioli" might have been the chef, or perhaps a romance novelist...but for the other proletariats out there like me, "Frites" is French for "French Fries." Mom didn't raise a total idiot. Although I'm not entirely sure what a Brioche Bun is. Maybe she raised half an idiot.) It was tasty. Nice flavor. Best cheeseburger I've ever had? Probably not. The fanciest? Maybe. I didn't pay too much attention to what my friends were eating. I don't know that I could have seen what they were eating if I tried. One friend ordered the Harvest Pork Chop (which I considered ordering, until I saw the price), thought it was a bit undercooked, and sent it back. When it was returned to our table, it was still a little too underdone for her liking, but she decided not to say anything further. The friend whose birthday it was ordered the "Colossal Lump Crabcake" (the $15 appetizer) and described it as "delicious." Everyone else seemed more than satisfied with what they ordered. Another friend doesn't eat meat, and I think she might have made a meal out of the Cucumber Rolls. Dessert consisted of tiny donuts with a choice of dipping sauces-- raspberry or chocolate. Different, for sure, but my chronic weakness for sweets was kicking in big-time and tiny donuts didn't really cut it. I had my avaricious eye on the Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownie Sundae. But with an $11 price tag-- I decided to stick with one of the mini donuts we all split up between us. Like a heroin habit, an avaricious sweet tooth can be tamed, if only one is strong enough. Our waiter (not sure what his name was, unfortunately) was very good, very pleasant and accommodating. I don't know that I partook of enough or sampled enough of the restaurant's cooking to be able to classify myself as a "fan." If you're looking for (what I consider to be) high-end dining in Basking Ridge, 3 West seems like a good choice. It certainly was packed with people when we finished our meals and made our way out the door (thankfully, no one stumbled in the dark). If my friends invite me again, I certainly won't say no. But I guess, as a regular matter of course, I feel more comfortable eating at Benny Tudino's or No. 1 Hoboken. At 3 West, you "dine." At Benny Tudino's, or Mr. Wraps, you "eat." Good food... sometimes. This place is hit or miss... very inconsistent. I've been here twice and ordered the exact same dish both times - the crabcake sandwich with handcut fries. The first time, it was delicious - the crabcake had plenty of crab and the aioli complemented it very well, the fries were perfectly crispy. The second time, it was terrible, came out cold - hardly any crab and a whole lot of filler - tasted overwhelmingly artificial and I felt like I was eating a tartar sauce sandwich - gross. We met some friends for dinner recently at 3 West. Food was good, drinks were good, staff was very polite and professional. Nice atmosphere. A bit on the expensive side - appetizers in the $15-$20 range; we were shocked by the dessert ($14) and coffee ($7) prices. (Note - 3 West is owned/operated by the Harvest Restaurant Group, which is getting a reputation for being way overpriced). A big shout-out.....they did not sneak a fee onto the bill for using a credit card! (We won't go back to a restaurant that does). Loved this place. Had not been here in a few years but came in for a drink after having (a sub-par) dinner next door. We sat at the bar for a glass of wine, which offers a pretty stellar wines by the glass offering. Get the Alpha Omega red blend, what a treat to find this on wines by glass menu. The bartender was very attentive and courteous and we enjoyed our conversation with him. We were then greeted by (might have been) the general manager. We immediately began discussing dinner and let him know we had just finished dinner next door but were disappointed overall. My husband was checking the menu and this gentleman then offered a dish of pasta on the house to sample. The service here is so personal and exactly what you would expect. I hosted an event in 3West in one of the semi private rooms yesterday. I booked the event in advance. Their coordinator kept in touch with me on the arrangements such as pre set menu, pre select wine and table arrangements. I was so glad we did it. It was very helpful. On the day of the event, everyone was extremely pleasant and accommodating. Food was delicious. Our orders were taken fast and food came out as fast. Decor in 3 West is very pleasing and the semi private room gave us plenty of privacy and ease to converse with each other. All my guests had a wonderful time. Thank you 3West! read more

Update August 2019. Came here under duress as someone else made reservation. But many of the issues of the past were gone with good service - although the waiter was especially awkward about the wine list and had lots of problems opening the bottles. The strange thing here is the weird menu - things you'd expect to see in a TGI Fridays in Dayton OH. "Fried burrata". "Hummus plate with guacamole ", fried chicken, etc. I suppose this mostly an expense account place for the many corporate Travellers in this area. Scallops, steak and salads were good however. I've had mixed experiences at this restaurant, hence the three star review. I want to love it because the menu has so many enticing options, but it's been really inconsistent for me. Twice when I've been here for dinner, they haven't had the dessert I wanted from the menu. Considering I wasn't ordering dessert at a late hour and it was just the start of dinner service, I'm not sure how they ran out of something on the menu so early. Despite this, I really like the atmosphere at the restaurant and the servers are great. The bread they bring around is pretty good and there are plenty of tempting appetizers to choose from. I ordered the calamari and the miso glazed salmon on a recent visit. The salmon was cooked perfectly, but the portion size comparisons between me and the other two guests in my party was almost comical. My entree was dwarfed by a companions veal dish; the plates looked like they came from entirely different restaurants. Should have known when normally busy room was nearly empty. Went for my son's birthday. Service was horrible. Food took forever. We waited an hour. When it came there was cheese on the burger despite ordering with no cheese. Had to send back pretty sure replacement was microwaved. Beef medallions were tiny and overcooked. Flounder was so salty. Made a reservation for a Friday night- walked in and there is a Beautiful bar area with a warm fireplace going. We were seated in the back by the kitchen and enjoyed a cocktail before dinner. There we so many good looking sides and apps that we decided to order a bunch of items to share. Truffle Mac and cheese was phenomenal ! We were not a huge fan of the sunchokes- just a little to greasy - if they were sliced thin and breaded I think it would have been better. The burger and truffle Parmesan fries were phenomenal! Ya see what I did there? :) I'm in the area frequently for work and personal reasons - with the limited options that are in Basking Ridge/Warren, you're forced to lower your expectations and be a bit less choosier than you normally would be. With that said, Three West continues to be a great place for lunch, fresh juices, cocktails, great wine list, friendly staff, quick service, and supportive for everything you may or may not want! I'm about 75 reviews behind at the moment, but I just couldn't wait to pen this one after our meal tonight. My hubby and I have now been to five of the seven Harvest Restaurants in NJ (including Huntley Taverne, Tabor Road Tavern, Trap Rock, and Urban Table) since last summer when we first went to Huntley Taverne for my birthday (where we returned again for my birthday this year). But I think 3 West may be my favorite yet. If not, it's a VERY close second. While it's not in as nice of a location (it's part of a classier looking strip mall, as opposed to a standalone building), the interior has just as much decadence. Beautiful wooden decor, a fireplace, large, comfortable seats, and a semi-open kitchen. It's much quieter and more upscale than the Urban Table in Morristown, as well as the one next door and which we accidentally walked into without realizing it at first. The bathrooms have fresh flowers and individual terry cloth hand towels--always a nice touch. Looking over the menu before deciding on a glass of wine, I quickly noticed two items that sparked my curiosity: the spicy yellowtail Napoleons, and the wing of skate (a type of ray from the Maryland region). Since I'd never had skate before, I asked our waiter, Derek, which wine would pair best. He recommended red and asked if I had a favorite (Pinot noir and Malbec). He suggested their new Pinot Noir and ended up bringing another selection, which I ended up preferring. There was no mention of beer on the drink menu, but since we'd been to Trap Rock and knew they brew their own beer, I decided to ask. To our surprise, they had two Trap Rock beers available, as well as a Dogfish IPA. Without even asking, our other waiter, Rodrigo, brought over a sampling of all three for my husband. (Ahh, the things 5-star reviews are made of!) The breads served ahead of our appetizers were delicious, one sourdough and one with fennel and raisins. And the yellowtail napoleons (a new addition to the menu, courtesy of their new executive chef) were sushi-inspired perfection! Crispy wonton pieces on top and bottom with spicy tuna and seaweed salad in the middle. Just amazing. I almost always order the pork chops at all of these restaurants because they ALWAYS knock it out of the park and way into flavortown, but this time I decided to let the hubz get the chop and I got the skate. Definitely a great choice since I still got to try my hubby's pork chop, which to no surprise was in-freaking-credible; so juicy, perfectly seasoned, and with a little crunchy crust on top... I can't even! The skate, I have to admit, was very fishy, but I love fish so I was totally digging it. It came with a buttery purée and some greens which diversified the flavors on the plate and kept it from tasting too salty. The cartilage was the weirdest part of the experience because it fanned out from the base of the wing just like a feather. But it was not difficult to eat by any means. We peeked at the menu before coming, and knew they had a dessert we hadn't seen anywhere before. As the waiter put it, it was "the Mercedes of the dessert menu." Freshly made cinnamon doughnuts with three dipping sauces. The item takes about 7-8 minutes to make, since they do make them to order, but in my opinion, seven minutes of my time is a small sacrifice for these beauties. The little doughnut holes are served hot, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, tossed in sugary cinnamon, then served with three dipping sauces: raspberry, chocolate, and caramel. All three were perfect compliments to the savory sweetness of the doughnuts. You get what you pay for here: the experience is phenomenal, the menu is unique and expertly prepared, the waitstaff is professional and knowledgable, and the decor is classy yet comfortable. Expect to pay $100 or more, plus tip, for two people. read more

Ask for bread. Offers full bar with three Trap Rock drafts and an extensive wine list. Nice American food, nothing spicy nor particularly unusual. Vegetarians startlingly well served. Bring money, and dress up a little if you want a good table. But good luck figuring out who is your waiter! Three of us tried 3 West for a pre-holiday lunch on a busy weekday. We weren't wearing ties, we weren't wearing jackets, we got the table hard by the kitchen. Ah well. Three taps, all Trap Rock: Ghost Pony helles (light) lager, an amber ale and a Kentucky bourbon-barrel-aged ale. That last ale was excellent, a hint of bourbon sweetness, $7.95 a glass at lunch. Big bar too, full service. Bread plates reposed on the table but no bread arrived and (craning our heads around rudely :) we saw none gracing any of those nice plates on the tables around us. Hmm, maybe dinner only? Well we were too shy to ask, found out much later that bread is only served on request. WTF, don't make the same mistake we did, speak up! Harvest Group has this inexplicable policy of multiple servers. In other words, they don't make one key person your primary contact, instead you deal with 3 or 4 different servers. Never know whom to flag down for a refill, for bread, for dessert, for the check, for whatever. Food was nice, not memorable. I ordered crimini mushroom flatbread with goat cheese, received meatball flatbread with mozzarella, whoops! good thing I'm not strictly veg lol, clearly I got somebody else's pie but the place was too busy to send it back. $13 for this personal pizza, properly thin crispy crust. My dining companion tried the fish burrito, suspiciously silent about the fish species, turned out to be halibut, cod and shrimp but no beans, no rice, no salsa, nothing - really should be a fish wrap, overpriced at $16 because no sides either. Third unindicted co-conspirator ordered the curry chicken salad wrap, this came with house-made potato chips plus a small pile of greens, $13. For dessert we tried the hot cinnamon doughnuts, really doughnut holes (lumps) arrived with 3 dipping sauces: an average caramel, a good dark chocolate, and a fantastic raspberry (6 for $8). Vegetarian rating: 4 stars for the many choices in all categories: appetizers included hummus; salads were nearly all veg; sandwiches included an avocado + tapenade on whole wheat; entree ("seconds") was a butternut squash risotto. So you won't be limited to ordering three apps. Service was distracted by a lot of very well dressed people ordering wine, every table full, still our food managed to come out pretty quickly. Wow parking at Riverwalk can be bad, drive around back and try your luck underneath. read more

In town on business. Asked the hotel front desk for some recommendations and this place was one of them. We had an overall good experience. The only issue is that our food came out before the salad. They quickly brought out the salad and did not charge us for it, which was nice. The food was excellent! One of the best crab cakes I've had in a very long time. I don't frequent this place nearly as often as I should although I think saving this place for those rare occasions makes it that much more special. I have gone here a handful of times for a casual night out for drinks and I love the feel of this place. It's tucked away in a strip mall so from the outside it doesn't seem too inviting until you enter the place itself. The staff is especially friendly and the service is attentive. The last time I had dinner here was for my birthday and it was truly a wonderful experience! The food was AMAZING and the presentation matched the quality of the food. The owner was also nice enough to follow-up with me by phone after my birthday to make sure my dining experience was up to par. It doesn't get much better than that, I always love a personal touch! I would recommend this place for a nice date night or even just to catch up for drinks. read more

Do yourself a favor, please get the toast trio appetizer and/or the shrimp spring rolls. Both are absolutely delicious. We ate them so fast I forgot to take a picture!! (Oops!) The rotisserie chicken quesadilla is packed with flavor! Will definitely order that again & again! We also ate the crab BLT it was super delicious, super fresh, super generous amounts of crab & the old bay frites were perfection. And last but certainly not least the RED VELVET CAKE is to die for!!!!! It's as delicious as it is beautiful. The service was fantastic, and the restaurant follows all COVID-19 restrictions.
