Classic 50's coffee shop ambiance, good menu selections, friendly service. Coffee is average, certainly drinkable straight up black, but I opted to add some skim 'cause I was in the mood for a treat. (2nd time here, coffee was very good.) Good was very good -- my companion enjoyed the french toast and home fries. I enjoyed my tomato and spinach omelette and rye toast. Thank goodness for diners. This one is a gem, and not too far from all the uptown hospitals and doctors. It has a huge menu, breakfast all day, and dinners come with soup or salad. Everything tasted home-made and was cooked properly. Service was excellent. The city needs diners and not a million scene-y high end restaurants. There used to a diner aka coffee shop every few blocks and it's criminal that now you have to seek them out. Neighborhoods really rely on them. For example, the 3 Decker had Thanksgiving menus up--they will be open and serving the community. read more

Food was not very good. They hand you juice as you walk in with no statement when you didn't order it and then charge you for it. Wait I am so shocked that I discovered a favorite breakfast spot in ues? when you walk it in its peaceful, no music at all which I love, and not busy at all. Had a lovely diner breakfast on a friday morning w great service. You can get hot coffee almost immediately and a shot of fresh OJ! The OJ was a really nice touch. tasted freshly squeezed!(although not sure) I got the Irish breakfast platter(?) and it was just the way I would have hoped them cook, no oil dripping, clean cooking, and perfect proportion for a hungry girl. It does come w toast on the side which I did not get. I'd definitely get this again a couple times more before I try something else. read more

Ordered a plain waffle and a side of home fries for pick up and was charged $20.50. I got home and checked the menu that I grabbed on the way out. $10.25 waffle listed. $5.25 home fries listed. $15.50. I called and I was told the prices changed because of eggs and that they charge 1 dollar per container take out. That adds to 17.50. Even with that $3 in taxes? I USED to take out here ALL the time, literally for 25 years. Not anymore with this bait and switch. The prices have almost doubled in the past couple of years. It's a shame, I'm guessing new ownership.... That said, the waffle was ok and home fries were good. Always chose 3 decker because of its reasonable prices, just the opposite now. I have always wanted to check out this neighborhood joint and one morning I was craving eggs and home fries and I walked in. The place was bright and sunny and clean and the staff was very friendly. I ordered exactly that, and it came out in lightning speed. The rye toast was buttered perfectly. The eggs were soft and hot and fresh and just right. And the hash browns with the side of turkey bacon was quite perfect. I was so happy with my meal and experience and can't wait to come back! read more

TLDR: flavorless food in small portions I ended up going here because a lot of the previous reviews had mentioned that the portions were big- well safe to say for my meal, that wasn't particularly true. I got the spare ribs special (14$) while my friend got the half-roast chicken (14$). For my meal, it came with a side salad (which was perfectly average) and a side of sweet potato/spinach (that had zero seasoning whatsoever). On to the ribs, I was extremely disappointed- I was served only a quarter rack of ribs, and worst of all, they weren't tender and the sauce was painted on. In other words, the inside of the ribs had zero flavor and were hard to chew since they were not smoked. It was pretty obvious that whoever made these ribs tossed them plain in the baking oven and then painted on some barbecue sauce right before serving. And to make it even worse, the sauce they used looked and tasted more like ketchup than actual smoky barbecue sauce. Being completely honest, I probably could have made much better ribs myself or gone to Boston Market and gotten the exact same meal for much cheaper. Live right next to 3 decker and finally got the chance to try em. One weekend i went and it was a beautiful day but oddly the only had 2 outdoor tables. Another time i popped in and it was closed (definitely spoiled by the 24 hr diners in the area). Today was a perfect day and they had tons of outdoor seating. The menu, like any other diner, was massive. I had the mexican omelette which featured fresh jalapeno, tomato and cheddar. It was a solid portion and the home fries were crisp. My buddy got the mexican style scrambled eggs with rice beans and tortilla. Also a massive stack of chocolate pancakes. Service was decent but honestly the prices here can't be beat. The service is great! I went in the morning 9:15am on a Thursday - the servers were so warm and kind, they checked on me constantly. That's really important to me whenever I eat out. I got the whole-wheat pancakes with bananas. It came with a coffee and the old school small orange juice that I remember from Greek diners in the 90s as a kid. The ambience is a simple diner style, nothing fancy or showy --- and super affordable! I've been coming here for years. I don't know how I forgot to review. Old establishment with a huge menu. Old fashioned diner feel inside. Today I was seated immediately. If you're alone it's easier to get a seat. I told them my order without needing a menu. I barely sipped my water and my breakfast arrived. Fast service. The food is like eating my mother's cooking. Nothing fancy. Just the way I like it! As soon as I was done the check appeared and table cleared. Sign says leave tip at table and pay at register. That's what I did. For a Sunday at brunch I was Ecstatic. Service as smooth as a babies butt! With tip my breakfast came to $10.20! Can't beat that with a stick! I'll be back more often. I am all about supporting small businesses but this one I will no longer support. Not only is the food not that great for the $ but the owner always double parks in his big red Yukon on 91st and side swiped my car last week. I showed him video proof of him pulling off my front bumper and he will not take responsibility for his actions. He told me to sue him. Bottom line: HORRIBLE customer service and lackluster food. Literally, the one and only time I've ever left a YELP review and I felt compelled to do so because of my experience. This is a no-frills neighborhood diner that I have been going to and ordering from since I was a kid. I know what to expect - standard diner fair - but even that has fallen off recently. But today took the cake. I ordered two omelets - 1 western and 1 bacon - and both were bad - but the customer service was APPALLING. FOOD: The vegetables + the ham in the western were undercooked and the bacon for the other omelet was completely soggy - almost like they cooked it inside of the eggs. If it was just the western - fine - that happens, but it was both, and considering it's a "neighborhood" place, I figured I'd let them know things went left in the kitchen. You know - maybe they want to let the line cook know to adjust his approach. I had no intention of asking for anything in return. SERVICE: So I called, and Romero the manager answered. I make my complaint and he immediately tells me...."Oh I remember you, you called about a year ago about the omelet and said the same thing". Seriously? This place probably puts out hundreds of omelets a day, and Mr. Romero says he remembers me calling a year ago about an omelet. Here is the thing - maybe I did?! I don't remember! But even so, 1. that is not the point and 2. if a year later I have the same complaint then maybe address the issue? I've managed a restaurant and have dealt with numerous complaints, and the ONLY thing you do, is listen, apologize and move on (whether you offer a courtesy is optional) unless the person was being verbally abusive which I can ensure you that I was not. Romero went on the defensive, led with accusations, questioned me about the specifics "how could the ham be cold if they cooked it with the eggs...etc." which made it seem like I was lying. Like who has time to lie about eggs? I pointed out to him very clearly that I did not ask (nor had I planned to ask) for anything in return - I just wanted to flag it for the team. This guy has a poor attitude and either needs a vacation or a new line of work - but either way Triple Decker has lost my business and I will be happy to tell the very many people I know in Yorkville the same story. Real fast place with lots of regulars that were on first name basis with the wait staff -- must be a go-to place for the area folks. We are visiting town and wanted stopped for a 'brunch'. It's an "all American" (tho with several Mexican choices) Diner but don't think the "organic" craze has hit them yet (or they have decided not to be bothered with it). If you don't get to fancy with your teas and coffees then you would like this place. We certainly had good food served in generous portions at reasonable prices without much of a wait. read more

This place ruined our trip. Okay that's a little dramatic, but my husband and I saved up for years to take our nonverbal autistic son to New York -his dream literally since he was a toddler. We had a fantastic trip visiting parks and museums and we ended up here for our final dining experience in the city and it put a damper on our whole trip. I wish we could say our grievances ended with the roach we spotted in a corner and the bland food but one of the male waiters proceeded to be incredibly rude to my 12 year old who was unable to express his frustrations properly. This place is in walking distance from our hotel. Although there was a crowd at the door when we arrived, we were quickly seated. A few minutes from being seated, we had complimentary orange juice and water at our table. If you're looking for a cheap, filling, tasty meal, look no further. 3 Decker Restaurant has the diner atmosphere but far exceeds the taste of how it looks. I've only been for breakfast and lunch on weekends, but there's always ample seating and I've never had to wait. They give a small glass of orange juice with water which is perfect for me since I be ever want a big glass and it's free. The food itself is really good but not amazing. Solid pancakes, waffles, toast, but I'd say the omelet a are their best breakfast dish. Not sure how dinner works here, but lunch food was available during breakfast and vice versa. Now the portions are huge! One serving of omelet is really for two. And what maKes me the happiest is that the price is more than reasonable. read more

I am very disappointed. I live in the neighborhood and come here once in awhile. The basic diner fare is usually good and plentiful. The service is accommodating if not overtly friendly. Usually a good value. Today my partner came here for Christmas dinner. Her lamb was fatty and not cooked well. Watery mashed potatoes. The vegetables in my pasta primavera looked like they came out of a frozen food bag. Watery sauce. I was supposed to get a soup or a salad. They didn't bring either until I mentioned it to the waiter; then I got my salad. My partner ordered a Christmas dinner special. The menu said it came with a free glass of wine, dessert, coffee or tea. Cake or pie would be $4.50 extra. When she asked what desserts came with the dinner, the waiter tried to get her to order cake or pie. He had to get someone else to explain that the dessert was the coffee or tea. Deceptive. Then they charged her for the coffee because she had the wine. The menu did not say "choice of coffee, tea, or wine." She was credited for the coffee but the whole experience felt like they were taking advantage of customers who don't check their bills. I felt they were trying to rip us off. The guy who did it was a kitchen helper who clearly wasn't trained properly. The waitress apologized while the guy sarcastically asked me "did I get dust in your food??". The waitress clearly did not want to serve me but had plenty of time to have side conversations what someone who was not even order.
