I only came here in search of vinyl records. Overall they have an outstanding selection of both new and used. I think the prices are high for re-pressed records. The majority of used were in great condition, and the not so great were in value bins. My two recommendations are add a listening station so customers can check the quality of used records and to make sure it has the desired songs. There are multiple records from one artist and if you don't know the name of the song, there is no way to find out except to use a Smartphone. I purchased 4 records and would've easily purchased 10-15 if there was a listening station. Also, the genres were mixed, I know an artist can cross genres, I recommend going with the main genre and putting the entire catalog there. read more

Did not feel "pressured" as many stores do. Good selection of games granted the retro games are there but don't expect a large selection of NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis games (at least to my standard). I purchased a brand new product from the store only to find that said item did not work, returned it to the store to be told it's "against store policy" to give any kind of refund other than store credit, because it's a "used product" store. Located in the old Borders this is a book\music\movie\game\vinyl store that sells used items. Some things are a good price and some things that are newer have prices that reflect that. The CD's are def. a good deal. My mom had gotten a bunch from there and hasn't had any bad ones yet but they do accept them back if they don't work. They do have a large selection of everything! I am a big fan of second and Charles. Most of the employees are extremely nice and helpful. I did however encounter some issues at this location. First, there was an unpleasant employee at the buy back counter. She informed me without even looking at what we had that we were going to get most of it back( this did not happen although they did not give as much in store credit as their other stores). My second problem was with a cashier, Alex. He incorrectly rang up some of my purchases and when I pointed it out ( while still standing at the register) he told me to go to the back of the line. After about 20 minutes I finally found a manager and he immediately ( and very nicely) fixed the problem along with a wonderful employee named Liz. read more

Sellers beware!! Check your items that you are taking back with you! I went to 2nd & Charles today to see how much they would give me for a product (less than half what I would get from eBay). When I got home, I found that the representative didn't return some of the components! What a hassle it was trying to get back! Seriously, taking pieces of a product that doesn't belong to you? Great place to go to buy used cds and movies but you will get close to nothing for selling used items to them. You are better off to donate these items to a library or a garage sell. I happen to love the manga and retro video game selection, but I could see myself starting any other poison and making out like a bandit. My boyfriend and I wanted to have a geek day and go comic book hunting and we stumbled upon this place. We never heard of it so we figured, why not? We arrived and we're totally blown away! It had everything we collected and admired from books to records to vinyl figures to comic books to video games and all the nerd merch you can imagine! So, 2nd and Charles had been recommended on Facebook by a friend. Decided to gather multiple texts,CDs,ds and DVDs and see how the process worked. I usually donate to goodwill but wanted to see what "this" was all about. Dropped off my 3 bins and waited. While waiting I decided to peruse the isles and found two used books: used $10 (new $24) and $5.95 (new $10) not bad, but used. Finally my number came up and I went to retrieve my Estimate. I was greeted with, "I have bad news, one of you books has water damage and when we find anything like that we reject the entire order." I had 3 bins of immaculate books and electronics, didn't recognize the one small paperback book-looked like a book from the beach but....okay, whatever! Based on the rejection of very well preserved books and electronics, I decided not to purchase those previous mentioned books. On my ride home, my hands broke out in bumps and was itchy....diagonoses, reaction to dust/paper mites from bookstore. Great! Found this undesirable and if you are allergic to dust/paper mites, avoid this store! Not, worth it! read more

As far as buying; the prices are decent - especially for books. DVD's aren't too bad either. Nice selection, even some good old vintage stuff in both books and DVDs. For selling...it is horrible. I wouldn't expect media to get the 50/50 split that other resale items do including clothing etc. But just to give you an idea of what you will be getting. If you are taking credit, you will get about 20% of what they sell it for. If you want cash you will get about 10% max of what they sell it for. Overall very disappointed in that aspect. I would have expected to get 25% cash and 35% credit. Hopefully other people will wise up to this and they can adjust there trade-ins. That isn't really a good way to bring in clients. And though everyone was polite I don't like even remotely feeling like I've been had. So I probably won't be back until xmas. read more

I really love 2nd and Charles, I could spend all day in there. They have just about everything you could ever need or want. And you can sell and trade games, movies, books, CDs, and records. They usually have a pretty nice payout. And I love that you can buy video games there for ANY system, even really old ones. They also have a large record selection which is nice too since I'm a vinyl collector. I recommend this place to just about anyone because you're sure to find something you like. read more

Very disappointing second experience. Went to return a defective remote control for the xbox. Employees including the manager on duty were very dishonest. We were told that: - 1. there was no problem with the returned item and that it worked for the employee who had tried it so we could NOT get a refund even though the store policy states "All sales are final, but if your product is defective in any way, we'll gladly take it back within 14 days" with the original receipt - the item was returned within 24 hours(less); 2. On inspection of the returned item which the employee said that he had tried, and had no problem with, we realized that the remote had been changed and the one we had been given was in fact an older, dirty, scratched one. 3.The first employee we spoke to said that it was not possible that the item that had been given to us was any different from the we had brought in. LIES 4.So we proceeded with our evidence that the remote was in fact switched. So they were clearly hesitant and decided to stay silent. 5. The manager was called (he came to us after nearly 5 mins) told us that they did not have any more of the item therefore it was not possible that the item had been switched, then his lying tongue said that his employees would never do such things. 6. He continued to say that if indeed his employee did switch the item, then we have a working one. So I reminded him that he said the one we brought in was the only one. We went on about the switching of the item for the longest while. Then he said maybe his techs probably opened and fixed the remote in the back... I saw the remote switched so I let him know. 7.He said well the "new" remote now works because he saw his employee try it out... More lies because he was all the way on the other side of the store when we came in. So his web of lies was unravelling. I told him there was no way possible that he saw anything through the shelves of books and other merchandise. He again now realised he was caught red handed. How can this have been the only item according to you and your entire staff, there were more on the shelf and at the back where the guy tried them and switched them in plain view? How is it possible that this was the only item yet you say your employee changed the item for us? I rather shop at the Goodwill or Salvation Army where they sell good items, maybe some a bit over priced but the staff are not deceitful and they sure as hell don't go through all the trouble and lies and in the end the proceeds go toward something that helps others. All in all I don't mind being wrong, but I do not like dishonesty. They will be hearing and seeing more of me but not in a good way! ^_^ read more

On Jan 2, 2015, I took 35 sports books to the Auburn Hills Michigan store. All were in excellent to like new condition and valued for resale at between $5 to $20 each ranging from the year 1970 to 2000. A few were collectible items. Having sold many books on ebay, I am fully aware of what used books sell for but I figured I would try this book outlet. .............NEVER AGAIN!!! After reviewing their tiny section of sports books they had for sale in-store and noticing they were selling on average for about $6.00, I expected a fair offer of somewhere in the range of 50 cents to $1.00 per book. I was stunned when 2nd & Charles offered me a meager $3.75 in cash for my entire collection of 35+ books!!! I demanded my books and they brought most of them back to the counter but left ten books on their rack. I demanded the rest of them and they brought over the rest to me. One book alone was listed as 'sold' on ebay for $10. ....SELLER BEWARE!!! ..... Before you lug all those heavy books in to one of these outfits, I strongly suggest you look for other places to sell those valuable books! You are better off selling them on ebay or Amazon @ .99 cents each then to give then to these cheapskates. It is my opinion that 2nd & Charles is nothing more than a scam! read more

Love browsing here. Books, mugs, games, t shirts, movies and toys. Stuff for all ages. Many at nice discounts..still there's many items mixed in that are full price. It's a big store so you can easliy spend an hour looking thru the stuff. But it always clean and ORGANIZED unlike many second hand places (it looks like 50% off the stuff is new). Good place to go if you are looking for an unsual gift. read more

this is the only business that could have replaced Borders Books (in the same location previously) that didn't disappoint me ! this place is awesome - second hand books, movies, games, vinyl, cds etc . best part is you can trade in your old stuff you don't want for store credit for new stuff that you do want . some weeks we even go multiple times . read more

Just wasted a half hour of my life at this place only to be low balled for well kept hard backs. Don't come to sell. Only to buy.

My wife and I arrived at the store with about 500 DVD's that we wanted to get store credit for, apparently there is a "new" rule that you can now only do 2 bins of DVD's per license per day, even though we had done many more on a previous trip....not a good start, anyhow, we split the DVDs and each one of us does ~250 and it works. We are quoted 40 minutes. Our original plan was to drop them off and come back and pick up the credit - we have a 2 yr old, but if it's only 40 minutes and he was being good, we were game. The quote did not match the actual time after being there for almost 2 hours we both go up there and they tell us that they could not give us a quote because they found a disc with cat urine on it...GROSS!!! I ask the girl which one had cat urine on it and she says well I got about half way through found it, but kept going because I was hoping the other box didn't have cat urine on it. So my same question still stands and she states that it was in both boxes...Still not answering the question.. I go back out to my car to get the boxes that I brought the DVDs in, when i come back in a different person is answering the questions and I state, how come when you first found the soiled DVD you didn't call us up at at that point, his response was that they had, I then stated that your associate informed us that she kept scanning after finding this soiled disc. Clearly these two are either not working together or they are lying. We ended up leaving there not buying anything or getting our credit because we felt as though employees lies are not an ethical work practice, they had wasted 2 hours of our time and theirs, if we are using the credit it would be okay to pay for the over priced merchandise, but they don't want you to use their credit, they also state that when you get the credit it is worth at least 2 times what the cash is, and finally if you are going to quote a return time be with in a reasonable time frame 40 minutes and 120 minutes is not even in the same ball park, there was no apology for anything. read more

Waited until 11/23 to take 40 Christmas/Holiday CD's to trade in. I figured since it was only two days before Black Friday they would want those type of CD's. Let me also say that they were all in LIKE NEW condition. But they only offered to buy eight! Really?? The stores selection was not that great so don't understand why they wouldn't have wanted to add them to their inventory. VERY disappointed. read more

I love this place. I haven't been in a while but I only had a few items to trade and it took two hours before my number appeared on the screen. I get it. It's a Saturday. I usually went on a week day. But two hours for three games and a couple dvds? Luckily there were employees wandering around the store asking me if I was finding everything okay every five seconds, instead of behind the counter helping to sort through the tons and tons of traded in materials this lone champion was moving through as fast as possible. My problem wasn't with him because he was going as fast as he could and every time I went up to him he put down what he was doing and would tell me how much farther he had to go. I'm not sure how the system works but I put my trades in before a lot of people who came and went before I was able to. They were a few people short is what he told me. Again, I love this store and I'll be back. Not on a Saturday afternoon and not if they're short staffed. read more

The others will be aggressively ignoring you and completely rude and inappropriate with how they handle situations. Save yourself a terrible encounter and DO NOT visit 2nd and Charles. When I first visited this store, I was very pleased with what I saw and brought books back for credit. I've now gone back two more times and each time the rules seem to change of what they want. First each book had to have dust covers which I now see books on the shelves without them. I've read books I got from them and they will not buy them back, but when I asked a manager for a list of the rules for buy backs; none seems to exist. I have no problem with following rules, but why are they different each time I come in. read more

This place just keeps getting better and better. They have a pretty good selection of musical instruments (I was sorely tempted to buy a tiny ukulele because why not), and they also have a lot of electronics. I traded in a whole suitcase-full of books today and got enough credit to buy an e-reader ($20!), a full Lord of the Rings collection ($6!), a few books for a friend, a Star Trek water bottle, and STILL have credit left over. The employees are pretty helpful, too; I waited for a long time before someone helped me with the e-readers, but when a guy did come over, he was really helpful, and even let me use his smartphone to look up reviews of the different types of e-readers. (If any managers are reading this, it was the guy with an Adventure Time lanyard and I think a brown beard. Great guy!) He didn't push the most expensive one, either. Great great place. I really hope they stay in business. read more

Nice Idea but lousy presentation of stuff. Staff was nice at the checkout counter, but everywhere else they were pretty rude. Sections were in sad shape since there was no rhyme or reason as to what stuff was where in their bins, and especially when it came to the cd and vinyl sections, it looked downright embarrasing to see Peggy Lee, Frank Sinatra, and Kingston Trio in the "Rock" section. Also there were various pricing on records that made no sense like seeing $5.00 on a clean copy of a record, then $10.00 on a beat ragged condition copy of the same thing. I am lucky because I saw people searching under the records where there were more records that had the cheaper nicer copies that the more beat up expensive ones in the crates. I saw things like the album by The Band "Stage Fright under the letter "S" and the group April Wine under the letter "W", Edgar Winter under the letter "E", etc...Pretty embarrassing. Staff should care enough to at least let on who these groups are...sad. The cd's are even more messed up. I asked staff about a Buffalo Springfield cd and they just pointed to the cd section that had cross generes of stuff all mixed up with each other and said "In There" then walked away. No thanks I just spent about 2 hours finding my way around the vinyl section so I didn't feel like wasting my time looking for a needle in a haystack in the compact disc section. As I was leaving, I saw someone at the counter telling a person that his stuff was no good then the guy behind her looking at stuff chimed in with one nasty attitude saying that his stuff was worthless to them and to go away. 2nd & Charles? Let me begin by saying I've traded vinyl records with them for over the last few years and in that time the amount of credit i have been given for my vinyl has slowly dissipated. Ive traded the prestine vinyl in either very good or mint condition. Today was the final straw with them i brought in Led Zeppelin remastered 180 gram vinyl in mint condition along with Princes 3rd album also 180 gram in mint condition. The new Mud crutch album also in mint and was also 180 gram vinyl plus a few other 180 gram of other artist like spoon and Nadda Surf. They offered me $9.00 in cash or $17.00 in credit . I look at the guy and said are you fkng kidding ? He said they just scan the item they can't make a manual determination anymore . Thats is bullshit i will never trade anything again with them there a ripoff . I suggest if your plainning to trade vinyl to go to an independent record store in the area theres plenty of them around they will defiantly be more fair with there offers . read more
