Less than 48 hours later, 250 miles into a family trip to Wisconsin Dells with my three children, the engine failed from oil starvation. The Hyundai dealership in Madison, WI provided a written diagnosis: an O-ring failed to seat properly during the oil change Stephens performed, causing oil to leak from the engine. On top of that, diagnostic records show Stephens' service triggered two engine codes at 20,286 miles (3 miles post-service) that were cleared before the car was given back to me. No one mentioned it. My family was stranded for days. Over $7,000 in damages: towing, hotel stays, Uber, and non-refundable flight tickets I had to buy to get my children home for a custody schedule. The shop initially acknowledged the situation and confirmed they carry garage liability insurance. Then the tone changed. Eric Stephens refused to share insurance information, told me "There is no claim here," and texted me to stop contacting him and take it up legally. A certified demand letter went unanswered. I have filed complaints with the Iowa Attorney General, the BBB, and Polk County Small Claims Court. Stephens performed the service. The dealership confirmed their work caused the failure. They refuse all responsibility. I would not bring my vehicle here.

I purchased a 2014 Audi A4 Quattro 2.0 (blue) for $14,000, and during the test drive the check engine light was already on. I was assured it would be fixed before everything was finalized. That did not happen. Over the next seven months, I barely had the Audi because it was constantly in the shop for the same ongoing issues. I spent more time without the vehicle than with it, despite repeated assurances that the problems had been resolved. I was also required to purchase an extended warranty for $4,000. Before signing the paperwork, the salesman advised me not to use the warranty for a certain period of time or it would not cover anything considered "pre-existing," even though the dealership already knew the Audi had pre-existing issues. The warranty covered nothing, and I paid over $2,500 out of pocket for repairs the dealership would not fully cover. When I canceled the warranty, I was only refunded $3,200, resulting in a loss of nearly $1,000. Because the dealership could not fix the Audi, they replaced it with a 2014 Buick Encore, which was valued $3,000 less than what I originally paid for the Audi. Despite this difference, no adjustment was made in my favor. Even more concerning, the dealership later put the Audi back on their lot for sale at the same price I paid, despite its known issues. The 2014 Buick Encore's check engine light came on the day after I brought it home. The dealership kept the vehicle for several days, stating it was repaired, though I was not given a clear explanation for why it remained at the dealership for that length of time. After getting it back, the vehicle continued to run poorly and the check engine light issues persisted. This entire situation caused significant financial loss, stress, and months of inconvenience. I do not recommend purchasing the 2014 Audi A4 Quattro, and I strongly caution buyers that even extended warranties may not provide protection. I recommend getting everything in writing and being extremely cautious when dealing with this dealership.

Steve came highly recommended by our friends, Jim and Darcey Widmann, and now we know why. After shopping all over Des Moines for a truck, we encountered dealerships that either patronized us, hassled us, or made us feel like we didn't know what we were talking about. Some even tried to convince us that we couldn't get what we wanted. But when we walked into Toyota of Des Moines, it was a completely different experience. From the moment we were greeted, we felt welcomed and respected. Steve allowed us to choose the vehicle we wanted without any hassle. Every incentive was explained upfront, and the level of transparency was refreshing. What truly set them apart was their willingness to meet our needs on the trade-in. We were told by a Ford dealer (who originally sold us the Bronco) that we could never get the trade-in value we wanted, but Toyota gave us exactly what we asked for--no questions asked. Steve and the entire team at Toyota of Des Moines worked with urgency, respect, and professionalism to finalize the deal in a way that left us completely satisfied. This level of customer care and attention to our needs is what made us feel valued. Toyota of Des Moines embodies what it means to be a true car dealership. We are now proud Toyota brand loyalists and look forward to a lifetime of Toyota ownership, provided the company continues to deliver on its promise of quality in both manufacturing and sales. If you're out there shopping for a vehicle and struggling to find a dealership that truly listens and puts the customer first, look no further than Toyota of Des Moines. Thank you, Steve Henigan, and the entire team--you have earned our loyalty!
