Lots of courts indoors with unlimited play. It was my first time playing and it was fun and an inviting space. Very clean and spacious.

The staff is super friendly and everyone there is just happy to be playing pickle ball indoors when it is so cold outside currently.

I have waited weeks to post this review but time has not mitigated my anger at how my son and I…read morewere treated by the management of Carmel Racquetball Club. My 11-year-old son and I played pickleball for months at the Club then suddenly we were told that "liability" issues would prevent him from playing there again. My son is a very talented, mature player who got along very well with the adults, or so it seemed. Apparently one or more adults did not want a child playing regardless of skill level or temperament. That's selfish and intolerant but ultimately their decision. My problem is the hypocrisy of the management which allows tennis players my son's age or younger to play there on a regular basis but excludes my son. Is tennis a safer game than pickleball? In any case, no apology was made or workaround offered. I urge pickleball players to choose the Pearson Automotive Tennis Center; it's a much more welcoming place.

The Carmel Racquet Club clearly benefits from being the 'only game in town.' The location is…read moreobviously convenient as choices are limited for indoor courts north of Indianapolis. That said, the facilities themselves are well below par. The locker rooms and bathrooms are beyond outdated. Furthermore the locker rooms and bathrooms are extremely dirty. I am not sure these are even cleaned daily. And when the pool is open, which is not a guaranty, the cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired. Our child went here for tennis lessons. Beware of missing a lesson - you will not be given a refund or allowed to reschedule. A no refund policy is understandable, if undesirable, however the fact that you can't reschedule is ridiculous. My child hurt their foot, was in a walking boot and the response from the club when attempting to reschedule - 'Too bad, no refunds or makeup classes under any circumstances.' Our 3 children have participated in many activities over 10 years and this is the only time we were not allowed a makeup class. I certainly wouldn't consider this good customer service. Do yourself a favor and avoid the Carmel Racquet Club. Between the poor facilities and lacking customer service, it is worth the drive to find a better club.

Unfortunately, those working the front desk weren't as pleasant upon entry nor when we were leaving and I had questions. I wouldn't say they were rude but not very helpful. That way, when I'm 65, I will have 22 years of pickleball experience under my belt and I will dominate on the court. It's all about playing the long game, baby -- literally and figuratively. Until my geriatric pickleball dreams come true, I'll keep trying out pickleball classes and facilities around Indy. The Picklr is a nice indoor pickleball facility in Noblesville. It has 12 pickleball courts (I think I counted correctly), plus a championship court with stadium seating. It's clean and bright and feels new. They provide rackets and balls, but you can bring your own, of course, and they also have a shop where you can buy gear. The shop also has a small selection of packaged snacks and drinks. I used to play varsity tennis when I was in high school, so pickleball feels familiar to my body and I can slip into it easily. But even if you're a complete beginner to racquet sports, this is a good facility to check out if you're curious about pickleball because the people who work here are welcoming and answer all of your questions. They also offer classes and clinics, so you can brush up on the basics. Their drop-in rates are not too shabby ($20 for non members), and their memberships are a good deal because they include unlimited play. The Picklr also has a Junior Academy for kids, which is cool. My kids can hold their own on the court and like to play pickleball, so I could see signing them up for this program, if only The Picklr wasn't hella far from where we live. My favorite part of the facility is an upstairs lounge area that's dark and relaxing, with mood lighting and leather seats. From this spot, you can see all of the courts below. It's a nice place to take a break when you're not on the court.

I had the opportunity to attend a special event at the Woodstock Club, a private family-oriented…read morecountry club with a discreet entrance directly across from the Newfields entrance. Did I know it was there? Nope. While I'd certainly heard of Woodstock, I wasn't certain of its location. Woodstock has been in existence for over 100 years. There's definitely a vintage vibe there with beautiful grounds, a wonderful clubhouse, and a more reserved sense of luxury. Facilities include eight Har-Tru tennis courts, a hard surface pickleball court, three lighted and heated platform tennis (paddles) courts, a paddle hut with outdoor decking and fire pits, three pools, a nine-hole golf course, and quite a bit of greenery. Woodstock plays host to a variety of competitive and recreational leagues and club sports for all ages and hosts APTA premiere national and regional platform tennis tournaments. While I certainly did not tour the entire grounds, the lengthy driveway gave me an opportunity to check out quite a bit. First off, in terms of accessibility at the clubhouse I'll note that if you drive under their brick canopy toward the back of the clubhouse they have several accessible parking spots. There's an accessible entrance directly under that canopy (the other entrance is not accessible). They also have an elevator available from that accessible entrance (NOTE: In this case, accessible means a level entrance, no stairs, and a push-button power doorway). In 2020, Woodstock renovated their dining rooms. The Woodstock Room offers indoor and outdoor dining and a children's activity room. They have the River Room - it overlooks the pool area, has a bar, and an adjacent outdoor terrace. The Club Room is more intimate and has a fireplace. The Woodstock Woodstock also has a grand ballroom that can host larger events and weddings and two smaller private rooms. My event was in an area that was called "the living room," though it may have a more formal name. I didn't really wander around much, however, I was mostly able to access everything I needed (some of the food dishes were a bit high). This event served "heavy hors d'oeuvres" including shrimp, crab cakes, salmon, a couple light dessert options, a veggie tray, and a few other things. It would have been nice to have had items labeled - I mean, let's be honest, if you know me then you know I'm a bit more trailer park than country club. However, everything I tasted was awesome. There was also a bar and soft drinks were available. Employees were friendly in a more reserved, professional way. They were effective, efficient, and discreet throughout the evening. I found the area quite comfortable and enjoyed looking around it. Membership here is by referral only and they have preview and regular membership opportunities. Fees are based on age and marital status. They do also have a non-resident option. I'm always impressed when a club makes an effort toward accessibility. While Woodstock isn't perfect in terms of accessibility, it's better than I expected and I was quite pleased. Overall, I would definitely return for future events and enjoyed the opportunity to check out this long-standing part of Indianapolis history.
