I'm visiting Indiana from Boston for just five days, and since I practice and enjoy playing pickleball back home, I wanted to find a local place where I could get some playing time in. I came across 3rd Shot Pickleball and decided to give it a try. I first stopped by on Sunday hoping to play, but unfortunately, I wasn't able to get into a game. Mark and Evan were both extremely helpful, though. They took the time to explain the facility, how everything works, and the best ways to get involved in games. I came back again on Tuesday hoping for better luck, but once again I wasn't able to play. That's when I met Noreen, who was incredibly kind and helpful. She could tell I was a little disappointed, especially since I'm only in town for a few days, and she genuinely seemed to care about making sure I had a good experience. She kindly offered me two hours of play at no charge so I could come back and give it another try. Well, third time was the charm! I finally got to play, had a great time, and really enjoyed the atmosphere and vibe of the facility. I especially wanted to recognize Mark, Evan, and Noreen for being so welcoming, friendly, and helpful to someone just visiting from out of town. Great customer service can completely change someone's experience, and they definitely did that for me. Thank you again for the hospitality. I'm glad I kept coming back, and I'll definitely remember 3rd Shot Pickleball the next time I'm in Indiana!

This location tends to have more people signed up for open play, so you do need to be quick about registering or be ready to join the waitlist. Unlike the newer facility, you do have to complete an assessment here (around $25) before joining open play, but it helps keep the games well matched. I really like that both locations offer "drills and skills" classes to help improve your game, and I'm hoping to join one soon. The only small downside is that the space between courts isn't separated by barriers, so balls can easily roll into other courts and interrupt games. I usually don't wait very long to jump into another game as they have their rotation system down. Overall, I think the membership is definitely worth trying, especially if you plan on taking advantage of both facilities.

I have waited weeks to post this review but time has not mitigated my anger at how my son and I…read morewere treated by the management of Carmel Racquetball Club. My 11-year-old son and I played pickleball for months at the Club then suddenly we were told that "liability" issues would prevent him from playing there again. My son is a very talented, mature player who got along very well with the adults, or so it seemed. Apparently one or more adults did not want a child playing regardless of skill level or temperament. That's selfish and intolerant but ultimately their decision. My problem is the hypocrisy of the management which allows tennis players my son's age or younger to play there on a regular basis but excludes my son. Is tennis a safer game than pickleball? In any case, no apology was made or workaround offered. I urge pickleball players to choose the Pearson Automotive Tennis Center; it's a much more welcoming place.

That said, the facilities themselves are well below par. The locker rooms and bathrooms are beyond outdated. Furthermore the locker rooms and bathrooms are extremely dirty. I am not sure these are even cleaned daily. And when the pool is open, which is not a guaranty, the cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired. Our child went here for tennis lessons. Beware of missing a lesson - you will not be given a refund or allowed to reschedule. A no refund policy is understandable, if undesirable, however the fact that you can't reschedule is ridiculous. My child hurt their foot, was in a walking boot and the response from the club when attempting to reschedule - 'Too bad, no refunds or makeup classes under any circumstances.' Our 3 children have participated in many activities over 10 years and this is the only time we were not allowed a makeup class. I certainly wouldn't consider this good customer service. Do yourself a favor and avoid the Carmel Racquet Club. Between the poor facilities and lacking customer service, it is worth the drive to find a better club.

There are a couple of saucer swings, a universal carousel, a bunch of net climbers, a couple of slides, a 4-square course, a see-saw, some percussion instruments, and a whirl and twirl. I must say, the equipment looks straight out of an Ikea catalog. There are a few benches in this area for parents to sit and watch their kids. The park's paved fitness/jogging trail is awesome. It is well paved and has dog poop stations placed along the route. There is a huge parking lot for the park and they have even added a little bridge that connects the back parking spots with the park, crossing over a little prairie area. In addition to all that, the park has a few green space pockets that are suitable for playing catch, a pick up football game, a soccer match, flying a kite or other similar activities. The park is one of the nicer ones that I have visited and I like that the play are does not have dirt or mud. It is very well maintained and in good shape. I hope to make it back to this park when the splash pad is operational and get the full experience.
