1Up Repair is bar none the best computer repair shop in Austin!! They are fair, respectful and do their best to give you a clear and reasonable answer as well as a price to whatever your current problem or situation is at hand. They actually talk to you and explain what the parts will cost and what it will take to fix the problem plus give you a time frame of when to expect to get your computer back. I had been to three other computer stores before walking into 1UP and some of the others had quoted me double the cost of what 1UP quoted. One of the others places told me to drop it off and then he would at some point during the week take a look at it, see what it would need and then give me a price quote. However, he wouldn't be able to fix mine until all the others were repaired before mine was brought in. So he really didn't have any idea when that would be. Great. Anyway at 1UP, my computer screen was fixed and replaced within 3 days and was home. This guy knows how to run a professional business and clearly lives among other human beings. 1UP Repairs legitimately saved my life! I woke up this morning to find a friend's cat had knocked my Sony laptop computer off the coffee table. I tried to turn it on and it spazzed out and shut off. It's the middle of finals week, I'm graduating, and I'm applying for jobs. This was not the time for this to happen. I found 1UP on Yelp and was seriously impressed by their ratings, so I stopped by. Went in and the guys were super friendly. Fixed my cracked iphone screen and ended up giving me an extra case they had laying around until the one I ordered in the mail came in. All around great place. I will definitely go back if I have any troubles in the future. Bonus, there's parking in the back! I almost didn't go because it's on one of the busiest streets in Austin with UT, but randomly went down the alley to turn around only to find they had reserved spaces in the back for their customers. My favorite least favorite place! All the stars for speed, kindness, ethics, and a great job. Timeline: Demolished my trusty iphone 5, 30 minutes before needing to leave town. The guy at AT&T recommended 1up, and my screen was fixed in 20 minutes with a warranty. This is great, except for the fact that my 'trusty' phone gave up over the weekend. Come Tuesday, I purchased a used iphone 6 on craigslist WITH A DEFUNCT BATTERY. After it shut off multiple times during the transfer process, I rushed it to 1up right before closing to see what they could find. Sure enough, when you buy a phone from some punk-ass high school kid, it's not going to be all there. Or all correctly installed. Luckily for me, 1up put in a new battery and even checked further into my phone to make sure everything else was performing correctly. Even nicer, they gave me a discount since I had just been there 3 days before with my iphone 5. My iphone 6 is now working perfectly. UT STUDENTS BEWARE!!! I literally downloaded Yelp just to warn fellow students to WATCH OUT Just because they are located to campus does not mean you should use this place to get your screen cracked. I cracked my phone and got it fixed here only for it to RESHATTER NOT EVEN 24 HOURS LATER!!! I got a new screen, screen protector, and a case here ($200) - ALL USELESS. My phone maybe fell 2 feet off my bed (knee length)and somehow - it had shattered THROUGH THE SCREEN PROTECTOR and I couldn't even see my screen. This place has awful quality screens and would only give me a 10 DOLLAR DISCOUNT on a new one. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!! My daughters iphone stopped holding a charge, the Apple store said it was a hardware failure and they couldn't help, and although 1UP Repair tried but couldn't repair the phone they went the extra mile to help us get all her pictures and contacts off the phone (it had not been backed up in a good while). I dropped my iPhone 5c a couple of weeks ago, and the screen separated from the colored plastic casing in the top left corner. The phone still worked, but it looked awful and was more vulnerable to moisture and dust getting behind the screen. I was DREADING having it repaired, and put it off until I saw that there was a repair place literally one block from my office on campus. No more excuses... The owner at 1Up fixed the screen in just a couple of minutes, at no charge. He was friendly and clearly cares very much about the success of his business. I cracked my phone over the weekend and called many places looking for prices and same day availablilty and John was by far the friendliest on the phone, was able to fit me in that afternoon, and also one of the lowest prices in Austin. When I walked in he was so friendly and cool and was telling my about how hard he was working on another clients phone to try and get it fixed so he didn't have to buy a new one. The employees were really nice and my phone screen was repaired in 40 minutes. It was also half the price of other phone repair places. However as soon as it was repaired my screen started periodically glitching. It will register touch in the wrong part of my phone and sometimes t won't register touch at all. After months of a shattered screen, I cracked and replaced my iPhone 5 screen. The owner was super friendly and we chatted about our VWs while he took my phone. He quoted 30 minutes, but it was finished before I could get gas at Wag A Bag. Not sure about what other replacements cost but my iPhone 5 was 75 plus tax. JUST DO IT. I went here the other day and was treated so damn well. iPhone 5s screen was cracked beyond function and they fixed it in, what, maybe 15 minutes? For $75, which is $25 cheaper than what I've had it repaired for before, at that. At no additional cost, they also took a look at my camera that was blotchy and did all they reasonably could to fix it. To sum it up, I was in and out in a more than reasonable amount of time, the customer service was impeccable, the price was right, and the employees seemed like the kind of guys you'd want to hang out and play Super Smash Brothers with. Exceptional customer service! I took my phone in for a cracked screen repair today. I got it back in less than 15 minutes; it was just like new! The repair cost was very affordable. I called 2 places prior and was quoted at least $25-$30 more and was told I would not get my phone back the same day. When the repair was done they tested the device to ensure everything worked properly. John was great about explaining the terms of the warranty and giving advice on how to prevent future accidents. I brought my phone here hoping that they could fix a weird issue that I was having - I thought maybe I just needed a new battery. They told me that they didn't think a new battery would help and recommended that I get a new phone. Do not go here - zero stars. Owner and staff will take your money and leave you with a defective phone that they refuse to fix. I took my phone here to have the screen replaced. I paid them over $400. When I got the phone back I saw a message that the battery was not from the factory. When I asked about it Brandon admitted that he had punctured the battery during the repair and replaced it (without telling me) with one of their refurbished batteries. I was unhappy that he had not told me that he had secretly damaged and replaced the factory battery before I paid him $400, but I agreed to accept it. Immediately after I left, while I was still in the car, the phone kept turning off every 90 seconds. I came back to the store and Brandon said he would fix it. I ended up going into the store 10 times trying to get the phone fixed. While I was in the store waiting I watched as unhappy customer after unhappy customer came in to say their phones no longer worked after 1up's repair. Each time the person at the desk including the owner blamed the customer and said it wasn't 1up's fault. Eventually after 3 weeks of unsuccessful "fixes" Brandon promised me a new phone but said they had to order it. When I came in I found out the promised "new" phone was refurbished- not new. I still accepted the phone. The next day I started getting SIM failure messages. I contacted the owner and said I wanted the new phone I was promised because the refurbished one he gave me was defective. He said that wasn't their policy but they would try to fix refurbished phone they gave me two days earlier. I said that was unsatisfactory because I had already been in the shop over 10 times and spent hours there waiting for the repair which was never successful. In the end I spent $400 and have a defective, refurbished phone. The owner said he would no longer talk to me about it and that I would have to sue him if I wanted anything else. read more
