Kens is a small breakfast place in glastonbury, and there always seems to be a line out the door (for a good reason). Once inside tho, the waitresses and busboys are always super friendly. I love that the waitresses always stop by for a quick chat when they see you. The eggs benedict is super amazing here. Actually everything is but thats my fav. French toast super amazing too, especially when they have the egg nog French toast on special. They always have two flavored coffee options which i love. And the home fries are always well seasoned and crispy on the outside and oft in the middle. The only downside really to kens is the wait which sometimes goes out the door. They don't take reservations and they don't have a sign in, so it kinda sucks for someone like me with Rheumatoid arthritis because I cant stand for very long, so we cant go on the weekends. But we went twice during the week this week and the wait was very short. So if you want a great breakfast at a decent price, nice wait staff, and you're near glastonbury, Kens is a place to check out for sure!

We had Sue handle all of our orders and she was more than accommodating for our group of almost a dozen people. Separate checks, a magnitude of questions, and lots of repeated statements from us and her. She has a patience of a saint and such a friendly demeanor. I love the atmosphere and the menu was designed by Sue herself, so we were able to get the best recommendations. Lots of omelets, French toasts, wraps, etc. All the food was amazing, but a common complaint I heard from the group was that the sandwiches were a bit dry or needed a sauce to push it to great. Definitely check this out. Be prepared for a wait and a deliciously good time.

She is always in a good mood so early in the morning, I don't know how she does it but my coffee cup is never less than half full. Great way to start the morning. All the food is pretty basic. Glastonbury Coffee Shop is meant to be that place you go to for breakfast when you don't feel like making it in the best way possible. I love the home fries because they are nice and crispy. Just a preference for me, I prefer these kind of home fries. Every time I come here I end up getting 2 eggs, bacon, home fries and toast. No complaints at all. I have never had a bad experience here and the food is always how I would expect it to be. It's just nice to sit down and be taken care of with no surprises in the morning. Prices are cheap, waitress is friendly, food is exactly as I would expect it to be. Thank you for opening at 6am because I don't feel like wiping down the stove on this Saturday morning. Just a heads up, this place is cash only.

The staff are sweet, friendly, and so helpful, especially for first-timers. The waffles are incredible. There are so many options to choose from, so good luck deciding! I had the Berries Insanity fruit-topped waffle and the fruit was honestly the freshest I've ever had. My husband opted for the Gourmand waffle (a Bananas Foster vibe). He opted for a Liège waffle (chewy) and I went with the Brussels waffle (crispier) and both were amazing. Drinks are just as good, from coffee and espresso to tea, matcha, or juice. We also shared a Zinneken's breakfast meal and it was perfectly made. Everything was incrediblly delicious and made for such a great brunch. We can't wait to go back!

However, this place is sneaky about prices. Firstly, They do not list prices on the menu, and after seeing my receipt, I understand why. If you want to add mixed berries to your waffle, they charge you $1.75 per type of berry. I ordered a black tea with a splash of milk, and they charged me the price of a tea latte. They also refuse to give tap water, and make you pay for bottled water- a practice that rubs me the wrong way. It cost nearly $50 for two people to eat breakfast here. Overall, the place isn't terrible, but is not transparent with prices.

Having time to kill, and finding myself dismayed at the number of breakfast spots closed on Monday,…read moreI found myself at a place I've long considered trying: the Makris Diner. I arrived just after 7:00 AM, finding only a few other customers. Taking my seat at the counter, and noticing the "best of 2025" certificate, coffee was immediately served; and, my order was promptly taken. My choice was the big breakfast two, which would prove to be well named. Well within ten minutes, I was served three eggs, properly prepared, over easy, four very mild, frankly nearly tasteless, breakfast sausage links, a good portion of browned, but as far as I could tell, unseasoned, hashbrowns that were on the dry side (yes, ketchup was required) and finally, two slices of thick French toast, generously splattered with powdered sugar (quite tasty, I must say). In short, this meal read like a stock chart on a volatile day; peaks and valleys. The cup of coffee was acceptable, doing nothing to add or detract from the meal. At just over, twenty two bucks, before tip, the portion couldn't be faulted; but, the quality could have been better. The Makris has been there as long as I can remember; but in all my life, this is only my second visit. The first was a late night stop for a cup of coffee way back when teenagers actually ventured outside to engage in social activities; and, today, it looked much as it did back then. It was clean, comforatable and very much appealing to my sense of nostalgia. So too, I believe, that could be said of the other patrons, all of whom I expected to refer to my 58 year old self as "kid" if the need to speak to me had arisen.

I'd be more understanding if the place was slammed, but there were plenty of open tables and a solid number of waitstaff walking around. Things started off with an excruciatingly long wait just to get our drink order taken--a beer and a cider, nothing fancy--and even longer for them to actually arrive. No exaggeration, it was over 30 minutes before we had drinks in front of us. The food itself was pretty good. I had the barbacoa tacos, she had a burger. The quality and flavor were about what you'd expect from a place with a huge menu--solid, satisfying, no real complaints there. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and pleasant, which made the painfully slow service even more confusing. It got to the point where I basically launched my credit card at them just to avoid another 20-minute wait to sign the check. I like this place and the food is decent, but I wouldn't come back if I had anywhere else to be--or couldn't devote an entire afternoon to lunch. If they checked in more often or offered another drink, it would've gone a long way. And pro tip: definitely don't come here for a first date. If you run out of small talk, you're going to be sweating it out.
