Mushroom Swiss chicken sandwich (it's the burger on the menu but my friend subbed grilled chicken!!)

My very good friend recommended this place for brunch and I'm so happy we did. We got in around noon which was perfect because it wasn't too busy. We were seated right away and our waitress Jess came over to take our drink order. There was another waitress came over and asked if we wanted to buy a cookie she had made. It was chocolate chip coconut and smelled amazing. My friend bought one and was pleased that it was still warm from the oven. Then Jess came back to take our orders. I ordered the blackened shrimp salad, my friend had a breakfast bowl and my godkids split another breakfast meal. The chef was so amazing, they even put the kids' breakfast on 2 separate plates and it was alot of food! The place is cozy and small however they do have big tables to accommodate about 8 and they even have a patio. I'll definitely be back to try more menu items

My boyfriend and I went together on a Saturday morning. They were super busy so we sat at the community table so a table of 6 could sit timely. I got the honey chicken biscuit again and added an over easy egg. Again it was cooked perfectly and delicious. My boyfriend got shrimp and grits and loved the dish! It's got good flavor and the shrimp were cooked perfectly!

I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while ever since it came on the Yelp top 100 restaurants list. I even drove 3 hours to get here and try the food. It's a cute little diner style restaurant retrofitted from an old tiny house (as evidenced further by the fact that it's practically on a residential street). The decor also makes it feel like you're still just eating dinner at someone's home which is interesting. We were seated promptly and were greeted by the kindest server, who let us take our time looking over the menu and always made sure we had everything we needed. Now onto the food. My husband ordered the chicken Parmesan sandwich with extra pesto. I had some of it and Let me tell you it tastes just as phenomenal as my photo looks. The bread was fresh, the chicken perfectly crispy, juicy, and tender. The marinara sauce was delicious! It seemed homemade, with real tomatoes and was perfectly tangy. There was plenty of sauce and a perfect mozzarella cheese pull. The pesto was also fresh and had a great flavor. All in all that must be one of THE BEST Chicken Parmesan sandwiches I've ever had. Especially noting that this is a brunch spot and I wouldn't expect the lunch food to be as good, but boy did they prove me wrong. It came with decently tasting waffle fries as a side. 5/5 for sure! Next we ordered the smoked brisket burrito which had the brisket, scrambled eggs, 'smash browns', and two types of cheese. There was also a blackberry chipotle sauce on the side for dipping. I thought that the breakfast burrito was decent but the meat was most definitely not what I would call a brisket... It was very dry exactly like beef jerky, and lacked much flavor. I would say that anyone who's had decent brisket knows that it's supposed to be fall off the bone tender and be swimming in flavor. For that I was sadly disappointed as that was my main meal and I'd come all the way just for that burrito. The eggs were fresh, but there was way too much cheese, and that's coming from a cheese lover who always adds extra. The blackberry chipotle jam was delicious but putting it on the burrito couldn't save it for me and just made for a weird combination. For this I would say it's a 3/5 for me. I had their smash browns as my side and ordered sour cream to put on as I always do with potatoes, but was pleasantly surprised to say they didn't need anything extra at all. The flavor was phenomenal and the smash browns fluffy and moist. I would come back again just for them alone. 5/5 for me. Best hash browns I've ever had. We ordered one final dish just to try it and that was the French toast. The bread was cooked well and had an ok taste. There was a scoop of real butter mixed with cinnamon placed on top. They seemed ok, but something about the flavor was off and we figured out it had too much salt. So much so there was no helping it by putting on the maple syrup. Someone just added too much salt to the French toast when cooking it and it ruined the whole thing. Would have been great especially with the cinnamon butter if it weren't for that extra salt. The food was pretty good and I would definitely still make the drive for the smash browns and the chicken Parmesan sandwich, however I would want to try some more items on the menu to make up for this time. For this reason I still recommend it, though I would stay away from the burrito and French toast. TLDR: Great service, mostly great dishes including the mouth watering chicken Parmesan sandwich and smash browns, but avoid the French toast and brisket burrito. I still recommend it, and will try again.

This place is amazing! To the food, cocktails and service everything was top notch with that quaint small town feel. It definitely helps that the locals are the most sweet and friendly people around!! I highly recommend the breakfast items & their brisket is to die for!! I'll be back!!

Quaint restaurant with creative menu. Our waitress, I believe named Tiffany was very kind, and super excited about the food she served. And it was GREAT food. My chicken biscuit was fresh with a soft sweet potato bun. My husbands pancakes were sweet and fluffy.

We decided to go out for breakfast while running errands. I've been to 185 a long time ago and I won't wait so long to go back again. We were greeted and seated quickly. The decor is Beachy and elegant. The seating is somewhat awkward but that's because it is a small place. A few tables for two would make it more intimate. The bathroom was very clean and decorated with the same theme. They had a dish with feminine products if needed. That is always a nice touch. My boyfriend said the coffee was a little weak for his liking. The mimosa was good, I had the OJ. It took a little bit for us to have our order taken but was well worth it. The food was incredible and the portions are large. I had the sausage breakfast burrito. It was nice and cheesy and the tortilla was nice and crisp. The salsa ( if you request it ) tastes very fresh. My boyfriend had the 185 plate and was very happy with it. The bacon was cooked perfectly and had a very distinct and great flavor. I'm looking forward to trying more menu items. We will go back for sure.

I've had 185 on my to try list for far too long and seized an opportunity that found me in Newport News...close enough! If traveling off I64 it's about 15 min drive or so to their front door. They offer parking, but not too many spaces. I'm unsure where overflow would be. The exterior is downright roadside dive feel which I adored! I noticed an outdoor patio on the side available on season. Upon entering for a weekday late last lunch I was asked to sit wherever I liked. The small dining room is more country than dive. 185 offers large tables for group dining. The kitchen is open for customer viewing which I enjoyed. I utilized the restroom which was clean with proper supplies. The Yelp app offers a check-in deal for a FREE drink. My waitress was the owner and she got menus and we discussed options. She was friendly, smiling and even singing along to overhead tunes. The atmosphere was comfortable for a solo experience. Most other tables were occupied by groups. I ordered a sweet vanilla ice coffee and water. My water was immediately placed on the table in a plastic cup. After reviewing the fabulous menu options and accompanying pics on the Yelp app menu site which is very helpful. I had been eyeballing the shrimp & grits which is a dish I love, but often it's underwhelming. When it was time to order my drink had yet to arrive. To my delight the owner was happy that I chose a favorite dish. My ice coffee arrived also in a plastic cup with lid & straw. It was super and perfectly sweet as ordered. I can't hide my disappointment that drinks are in plastic cups. So for me this is a deduction on their score without tasting a bite. My pretty white bowl of piping hot shrimp & grits hit the table within 15 minutes and looked amazing! It's picky, but there was cheese on the side of the bowl stuck to the side. The utensils were sturdy and packaged in a paper bag. The grits come with a large spoon. Let's get to the taste of the gorgeous contents of the bowl. The dish visually could have been elevated when wiped down. The top and interior side had residue. Picky I know, but presentation maters. First bite I knew it was a grand slam. The flavors popped with some heat, but did not distract from the taste. There is sauce on the table for those that want more heat. The shrimp was prepped exquisitely, I think a bit of cayenne pepper, but unsure. The grits had a unique flavor that had me smile ear to ear on every bite. It's the best shrimp & grits dish I've had in COCA and holds its own among those I've had in NOLA. It was an honor that Chef Rosario came out to check on me. We chatted a bit and I learned he came from Missouri. The business has been open four years, but he came in more recently. The original chef is still involved and smokes meats. The overall experience deserves high praise, however a 4.5 rounding down seems to fit best. I understands the challenges of small businesses, but would like to see them not use plastic cups for dine in. We are no longer in the pandemic era and they are not a fast food restaurant. For regulars they offer a loyalty program. I can't wait to return.

185 is an amazing restaurant in an adorable house. It's so cozy & inviting, and the staff was so friendly & attentive. They have a great breakfast & lunch menu. Everything we ordered was delicious! The sausage gravy also had bacon in it. I've never had that in a biscuit & gravy before, and it was so good! The smash browns were crisp & beautifully seasoned, and I loved the creole grits too. I looked around at other people's plates too, and it all looked so good! Whatever you order, you're sure to leave full & satisfied!

The gist is that the food is good; the organization is not. We were welcomed by smiley staffers but it went downhill from there. Our ask to sit outside was turned down and stating we're happy to wait didn't help. A blunt "no" was the answer. The order took nearly 40 minutes to arrive, and the manager must have had a bad day because she was yelling at her team multiple times in front of patrons, which was very uncomfortable. Our orders of pancakes, scrambled eggs and avocado toast were fine but the atmosphere made it hard to enjoy breakfast.

185 is a good local food joint. I like the basic and open ambience. Wait staff is relatively quick to check on the tables. Food is good. Omelette is good. Their smash potato or whatever they call it is good. I like this place. It's unassuming and that's part of their appeal. 3 stars for providing basic good food in a good atmosphere with good wait staff. Don't steer away from 185; steer to it and enjoy a local favorite. Can't do 4 stars; three is well worth repeat patronage.

We've been here a few times and it never disappoints! Great local place that's quaint and accommodating. My favorite is either the Hangover plate or the brisket burrito, and the Wifey absolutely loves the shrimp and grits! Try a burger as well.

Found this diamond in the rough yesterday on our way down to the OBX. As you walk up to the building it has that southern charm appearance. Open the doors and bam the smells of delicious food welcome you in and tell you to take a seat. We were able to eat at an outside table, which was relaxing due to the times we were in. Now what you e all been waiting for the review of the food! My soon to be wife had the seared the salmon salad, cooked to perfection and the perfect meal for a for a Sunday lunch. My one daughter had the BLT chicken skin sandwich and smashbrowns. Let me tell you 185 is doing something right, even pleasing the pickiest if 9 year old girls pallets. There are options for younger children to as my 2 year old enjoyed a corn dog and some crispy fries. Finally my meal! I had the brisket burger w/ bacon and jalapeños, ohhh mama this was everything you could want in a burger and more. Cooked to perfection, amazing flavors, just WOW! 185 is the place to be! read more

It was our first time coming here, but it will not be our last! This place is a hidden gem and the food is soo good that it doesn't compare to other larger breakfast chains that I've eaten at. The best biscuits and gravy and shrimp and grits I've ever had! We live in Norfolk, but would definitely make the 45min drive just to come back for all the deliciousness! Such a great place! This is the place to eat if you want an amazing breakfast or lunch! It's adorable, well decorated and the food is top notch. The people who work there is nothing short of amazing . Very cool atmosphere in this quaint restaurant. Menu is classic with lots of modern twists. We were able to get immediately seated which was great on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered the traditional breakfast and pancakes and they were both well done and came out quickly. Price was reasonable for the quantity of food and flavor. We had some issues on the details like the cleanliness of our table, syrup and cream for the coffee and had to get up to grab the staffs attention. Honestly, it kinda felt like we weren't regulars so we didn't get the attention or service as other customers in the restaurant. Based on previous reviews and awards I must admit I had very high expectations which were not met. I also understand that it is a challenge to always be on your A game. However, it is a very nice restaurant and the food was tasty on this particular visit. Worth a visit if you are in the area. read more

I had high expectations for this place based off of the reviews. However, this place fell short for me. I had the chicken biscuit the chicken I will say it was perfectly cooked nice and juicy but the batter had no flavor. The biscuit was just ok the sauce however was really not what I was expecting when I read spicy chicken biscuit with hunny butter I was anticipating the chicken to be spicy and the butter to have a sweet heat to it but it was ground mustard . My husband had the brisket omelette which sounded like it was going to be so good but came out looking like overcooked scrambled eggs with a few and I mean a few pieces of brisket. I did really enjoy the grits and our waitress was friendly. The wait to get our food could have been overlooked if the food made up for it but sadly I have to say this place was a waste of time and money. read more

Went there today for the first time. Breakfast was amazing! Best breakfast I think I've ever had. Had an omelette, grits, toast. The grits were so good, make sure you try them even if you don't generally like grits. Also the toast was amazing. Not sure what they do to it but I could eat a whole loaf. We cant wait to go back. Don't let the packed parking lot fool you. There is alot of space inside and at least five tables outside and alot of the people there are picking up to go. We have passed by several times thinking it was simply too crowded to be served. You make your order at the window and then seat yourself. It is super crowded but moves fast. The quality of the food was great. My western omelet was cooked perfectly with the veggies Sauteed just right. The mimosas is were $5 and were a great pour. The table outside were perfect for this 65 degree and sunny morning. The servers made you feel welcomed and seemed to take pride in the restaurant. Great spot hidden in Poquoson. read more

I read all these rave reviews about the service and food . Food was good they were out of a few things, service was awful! You could tell it was a fake forced niceness to her. Dark haired gal, didn't catch her name.. we were really looking forward to 185 after seeing the awards on line. Probably would not recommend just based on service alone. There is a reason this place has 5 stars! We drove 30 minutes from Williamsburg and it was worth the drive. First off, the service was friendly and fast. Secondly the food was delicious, everything we ordered was excellent! The biscuits were the best I've ever had. Even the sweet tea was awesome. Long story short, go here! I've had this place in my bookmarks for a while. I live in DC now but grew up in the Tidewater area and go home when I can. When I do, I always go to a place I've been wanting to try. 5 stars! From the food to the customer service. I had the Smoked Brisket Omelet. It came with a Blackberry Chipotle sauce. OMG... the flavors together were so amazing. And listen to me... get the Smash Browns. Trust me. Our waiter Mary was amazing and so helpful and attentive. We loved chatting with her. This will be a staple brunch spot when I return home for the weekends. read more

A MUST GO! This cute little restaurant has the best breakfast food in Virginia. They take traditional breakfast and incorporate complex flavors that set it apart from other breakfast restaurants. I highly recommend trying the grits, French toast, and smash browns but everything is delicious. The customer service is amazing, food comes out fast and hot, and the portion sizes are huge. I place my order with a few requests. Extra crispy fries and no smash in my burrito. I was a told 25 min. 40 mins later I was told by the gentleman that they misinformed me and I should have been told 45 mins. After an hour wait it was confirmed with me that my fries were to be put inside the burrito. Which it not what I asked for. I was told "well that's what is on the ticket!" As if what they put on the ticket overrules what I ordered? Hmm. When I asked for my money back that I was just going to leave, the receipt was snatched from me by who I'm assuming is the manager. Meanwhile I can hear yelling from the kitchen about the fries being in the burrito. The waiting staff made every attempt to accommodate. It was the older male and female (managers?) that were all over the place. Never got my food so I cannot comment on that. But the service: unacceptable. Staff, there's no need to reply back with comments on how this was somehow my fault. Be professional and take accountability for your downfalls. read more

The reviews on here are legitimate. As a consumers who brought his whole family and took a bite off of everyone's plate i must say it was delicious. Good bang for your buck. The jerk chicken was perfect, French toast, açaí bowl, shrimp and grits, just a bite. Only suggestion i would say is they need some bottomless mimosas cause those single cups add up. Will visit again. Ohh also the service is phenomenal, just beware of eating outside if you don't like flies planning and rubbing there hands together to have a bite of your food. read more

Has become my "go to" Saturday morning breakfast location. Four trips, different menu items, and all great. French toast, pancakes, waffles, breakfast burrito all hit the spot, and I always get the smashed potatoes. Some mornings more people arrive than can fit inside and overflow to the outdoor seating. This place is a hidden gem. Living in Poquoson Im lucky to have this around the corner. This place offers an amazing experience. The patio outside is cozy and great for selfies and dates. Read another post that mentioned reservations...they don't take them but they serve food pretty quickly so it moves fast.
