This restaurant is close to my home so when it changed ownership recently I decided to give it another try. I've been there twice now, here's what I can tell you... It's a cute place, easy to get to and plenty parking. It's super clean and the folks working are super friendly and helpful. There's a nice size back room that can be reserved for private events with access to a back patio area. On my second visit, it happened to be Tuesday Taco Specials and I'm a fan so I ordered the shrimp tacos. They're served deconstructed which I appreciated. There was plenty to stuff in to 3 good size taco shells... I actually had some left over. They were very good and reasonably priced, I would order this again for sure! My dining partner ordered the pick two with a tuna steak, a crab cake, pickled beets and mac and cheese. He raved about the tuna, said the sides were good and thought the crab cake was fine but said he wouldn't order it again. Worth mentioning are the complimentary hushpuppies. They were really really good. Brought out piping hot ahead of the meal as an appetizer.... they are truly some of the best I've ever had! Also check out the dessert case on your way in, I haven't tried any but they look amazing! My hubby and I got there an hour before closing and was cheerfully greeted by the lovely Candace. Her service was impeccable! Hubby had their cheeseburger and fries and was pleased with the quality of his meal. The fries were extra crispy as requested. Highly recommend the onion rings! Unfortunately there was an issue with my fried oysters, but once I spoke to owner, Cathy, it was promptly replaced with my choice of house salad with grilled shrimp. The salad was gorgeous and the shrimp perfection! Despite the crowd, we were able to talk and the restaurant was very clean. The servings are generous and I only wish we had room enough for homemade desserts! We will return and I recommend this restaurant. read more

You can skip this place. Although it is clean and friendly, the food wasn't great. The crab cake wasn't home made but pulled from the freezer. The all-you-could eat flounder sounded good but the first piece was in the fryer too long. Second round was better. The house seasoned and sweet potato fries were good. read more

What a great place! This family owned restaurant has all of the personable touches you want in a small community. Food was extremely hot and fresh. The fried okra is the best I've ever had-crisp, light coating and a spring green color. Shrimp are fried lightly as well. Macaroni is baked and yummy, and the french fries are hand-cut. If you aren't a seafood lover, there are a few other items to choose from. The BBQ was smoked and flavorful. They have hamburgers, grilled chicken and chicken tenders as well. Home made pies too! My office mates and I decided on Surf's Up for our lunch get together last week. This was my first time eating here so I had no idea what to expect, but I'm now very sad that I did not know about this place earlier...Oh well, water under the bridge! Time to dive in. First off if like to say that the service (our server) was not only super friendly and fun, but quick to get our orders taken and out to our table. She was quite pleasant but also good at her job... Something that a lot of servers these days could maybe take to heart. The menu was a good selection of surf and turf options, you could choose anything from fried platters to a burger. And for those of us who can't do the fried everyrhing option... There's grilled, baked, blackened as options as well. Seriously, if you leave hungry it's your own fault. I'm a huge fan of blackened tuna bites, and usually a bit skeptical that a place can get it cooked correctly. Surf's up nailed it in spades. Perfectly seasoned (not too salty or heavy handed with the blackened spices), perfectly cooked to a lovely rare-medium rare. This is where most places fail... They usually OVER cook their tuna. Not Surf's Up. It was perfect. So too were the blackened shrimp I ordered. The ONLY negative thing I had for this plave was the side of green beans. They were mushy, lacking in flavor and... well to be honest they looked like they came from a can from the grocery store. It would have bewn nice to have had fresh green beans with bacon, butter, and a little onion....fresh made. THAT my friends would have made thw meal perfect. Finally, theres the hushpuppies .... I usually hate them. Wont touch them.... But for some odd reason I tried these ones. I ate all three... THAT'S how good they were. So basically, this place is an absolute HIT for me. Love the healthy options, love the service, and lord help me .... I love the hushpuppies too A small, but lovely little dive that I will gladly be going back to. Check it out for lunch! Seafood is outstanding and desserts only your mamma can make. I ordered the blackened crab cakes. Great crunch and loaded with crab meat. Wife loved their fried okra. So this was my first visit to Surf's Up. Had a blast with friends. Everything was delicious. I enjoyed the hush puppies. My shrimp was seasoned just right. I had the grilled shrimp dinner with Mac n cheese (delicious) and French fries. I love seasoned fries. The atmosphere was great and family friendly. I loved the decor. Cute nautical beach themed. Wow this place is great! Surf's Up is a super laid back, diner style seafood joint. The inside if very cute with lots of ocean themed décor and plenty of booths for seating. The service is fast and friendly. When I came here I ordered the shrimp platter blackened with mac and cheese and fried okra. The prices are right at this joint which is hard to find these days with the prices of seafood getting so high. As soon as we ordered we were brought a basket of hot hush puppys and it was then I knew we made a good choice in coming here. When our food was brought out I was super pleased. My shrimp was well seasoned with old bay and butter, the okra was fried to crispy perfection, and the mac and cheese was seriously some of the best I have ever had. We were all very pleased with our meal and the portion size left us all full. This is definitely my new go to spot for seafood. read more

Night before thanksgiving i went out for dinner and my gf and i decided on surfs up. I got the barbecue dinner and she got the tuna tacos, BEST barbecue i've had in years it was not dry at all, it had a good amount of char and came with a delicious barbecue sauce. The bbq had a generous portion for only $12. The tuna tacos were phenomenal. The wait staff were all very friendly and came to our table every 5-10 minutes asking if we needed refills or how the food was. The desert case looked wonderful with tons of new items i've never personally seen in there. I now wish i would've gotten some banana pudding over all my experience was a 9/10 ! read more

We've always enjoyed our meals here, but on Sep 1 we were very displeased with the bill. There was a service fee on the check that the waitress could not explain. Granted it was just under $2, but why is any surprise fee tacked onto the bill? If they need extra revenue to run the place they need to raise prices or be as upfront about the fee as they are about what the daily special is. I feel that I was taken advantage of. read more

I had to update my review. We came here on a Friday night and the parking lot was half empty. We went inside and there were 5-7 parties. We ordered our food and were told they were out of calamari and clams, so we ordered our meals. Then 1 hour later the waitress comes out saying they didn't have oysters and so 3 of our orders couldn't be made. It was 8:30 PM and the whole restaurant had at most 3 parties at this time. They hadn't prepared our meals. We called the owner and discussed how we ordered 1 hour ago and weren't told at that time that they were our of oysters. she stated "if you don't like it you can go somewhere else". I had gone the entire hour without getting a refill of water either. We asked 3 times for silverware and it took forever to get it. This was such horrible service I wish I could rate the place as a 0. Please close down and make way for something new. read more

Food was great service was great need to have hot water faster for hot tea drinkers. You must try their desserts to top off your meal.

Arrived at 6:15pm on a Wednesday wing night and waited 10 minutes for a server to take my drink order. After and additional 5 minutes my drink finally came and I placed my order of 10 wings to be told that they didn't have anymore wings. I looked through the menu for something else that I might want so I ordered fried oysters with coleslaw and onion rings. 15 minutes later I overheard a party of 12-15 that had come in after us ordering wings. A few minutes later our server came to our table to let my son know that they didn't have anymore baked beans that he ordered. We then asked our server about the other party ordering wings and her response was " oh they told me they were out" so at that point we asked for our check for a Diet Pepsi, unsweetened tea and a bud light. We received our check and nothing had been comped so we paid our $7.72 cents for the worst dining experience that I have had in very long time! Do yourself a favor and don't go to this restaurant ever!!!! read more
