I went with my husband today. The gave us a discount for being a veteran. We always sit at the bar to visit with Danell. She is the best bartender in Baton Rouge. She is consistently kind, friendly, and an asset to 1717. She's the reason we keep coming back! The steak was amazing. And so is she!!! Thank you for having her on your staff All of my friends at the casino feel the same.

Redfish plate with all the bones on the side of plate. Clumped risotto and giant broccoli tree.
David F.

Redfish was full of bone. Risotto was mushy and one big clump. Came with a 6" broccoli tree.

This is a historic building that was once a bank, and it retains its historic murals as well as other features. It's definitely a place to take someone visiting or whom you would like to impress! The menu likewise is impressive, it's created by serious chefs. It includes everything from a simple burger to some fine steaks. I tend to go for the appetizers and small plates. However, they also have some quality seafood as well as Cajun specialties (including a good gumbo). There are regular specials, and the "Soup of the Moment" is also worth trying. They have particularly good charcuterie boards! The service is also great, the staff are dressed all in black, and there are white tablecloths. It's a near fine dine, but not as stuffy as one might expect. Definitely a place worth trying in Downtown Baton Rouge!

For appetizers, we had the cachapas with pork which were delicious. Recommended app for sure! My wife had an Indian curry with cabbage, purple rice, chick peas and spinach-wow!!!!!! Probably the creamiest tasting curry ever! You could add a protein but wifey went with the vegetarian option and it was great! It wasn't perfect bc there were some chick peas that weren't cooked all the way and were crunchy I went with the mussels in a pesto cream sauce with potatoes and it was sooooo delicious!!! Again not perfect as some mussels had that sandy/gritty taste which I didn't like it most of the them were fine. The ambience here is great! The owner really has thought out every detail to make sure you have an amazing experience. From the decor, music, staff-you can tell there was a a lot of thought, care and love put into it. Our server was very attentive and made great recommendations. Ima Florida boy through and through, but anytime I'm in Louisiana, I will definitely make it a point to stop in for another great food adventure!!!

The atmosphere is small, cozy, and inviting, making it just as good for a casual dinner as it is for a special night out. Our server, Addison, was outstanding--easily one of the best servers I've had in Baton Rouge. She was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience even better. If you get the chance, don't miss their Restaurant Week menu. They always go above and beyond, and this year was no exception. The quail, stuffed with boudin and served over red beans, was incredibly juicy and packed with flavor. It was one of the standout dishes I've had in quite a while. If you're in Baton Rouge and can't decide where to eat, City Pork on Jefferson is a place you can count on. Great food, excellent service, and a warm atmosphere keep me coming back.

We were in a large alcove at the back of the restaurant. It was spacious and elegant, even with the table ended up being almost entirely filled. Our waiter was enthusiastic and patient with our large party. Refills and check-ins were timed well. The drink selection was pretty extensive. Food was delicious and all delivered within minutes of one another (no one was stuck waiting for long). Burger was cooked to perfection and not TOO hot. I hate when food is so hot in temperature that you can't take a bite. The chocolate cake was good, but the whip cream tasted kinda fake/oily. The cake itself was medium density and had a slightly salted finish. It paired perfectly with the frosting which was very rich and extra sweet. A delightful pairing. For my drink, plus a double shot of whiskey, the burger and dessert, it came to just over $100. That feels expensive. Take that as you will. I wouldn't return mostly due to price. But quality on everything was great, and so was the service. Atmosphere was great too.

Ambiance was good. -2 stars because we sat at the bar on a Friday night and the bartenders were very lackluster. Barely spoke to us. The place wasn't overly busy either. We tried to make conversation and it fell flat every time. We enjoy making small talk with bartenders that's why we chose to sit there. Not sure if it was an off night or what. The lounge section was also closed due to a private party. Understandable but we wanted to have an after dinner cocktail. Overall we'd go back and sit at a regular table.

The inside is clean, simple, and contemporary. But the main thing about this place is the food, it's pretty special. The food isn't special because it's fancy, in fact it's pretty simple. It's definitely homestyle, and super fresh. It's freshly made to order, and your order will come out quickly. As the name would suggest, they have seafood, both fried and grilled. It can come on bread or without bread. All are good choices. It's piping hot and delicious, and can come with a variety of sides, fries, onion rings, even sweet potato fries. These are all tasty and freshly made. Usually one can get a combo with one's sandwich, which includes fries and a drink. This is nicely priced. However, in addition to the seafood, they make a really good burger. Again, the freshness and simplicity make it special. It's also a great value! Then there are the salads and plates.
