Arrived in town and this was the closest place to get food. What a great experience. Solid pub food (burgers, sandwiches, french dip, and some more dinner entrees. I had the french dip with a side of potato bacon soup. Sandwich was tender and soup was excellent. Excellent beer selection. VERY friendly and helpful staff in a nice historic building. Good prices. Wow what a great place. We heard about this place when we decided to come stay in East Sooke. It's perfect. All dark wood, dimly lit, decorated with vintage items yet modern enough to have big screen TV's. We ordered two17 Mile burgers and mine was excellent. I also got Poutine and of course it was great. I noticed a jab at the Maple Leafs on the menu and since I'm a Leafs fan I found it very funny but painfully true. They served me anyway. Our server was very nice and had a good sense of humor. She was pretty too. If we find our way back to Sooke we will definitely stop in for more Maple Leafs abuse. read more

Great find! Super friendly server. Fun pub with a good history. The back room with electric fireplace is cozy. We had the Roast special and clam chowder in a sourdough bowl, both delicious. I really don't like to leave negative reviews on restaurants. This was our second visit; the first time we went it was enjoyable. Tonight was busy so I understand we would be waiting a while for our meal. We placed our order which included an appetizer of onion rings. After waiting 25 minutes, I asked our server, when I was finally able to flag her down where it was; she said oh she thought it was part of my spouse's meal of a steak sandwich which came with them. I guess she must have forgot to input them because I clearly said an onion rings appetizer. My spouse was drinking a local beer and I had water with ice and lemon but had to flag another server for a refill. We were with another couple who also weren't impressed with the service but at least got their appetizer (poutine) and said it was tasty. My meal was the severely overpriced seafood chowder at $18. 95 that came in a bread bowl (yes attractive presentation) but very little seafood in the cream broth. My spouse had the steak sandwich and said it was a nice meal. Honestly of the four of us his looked the best by far. I really feel bad writing a negative review but I have nothing good to say about 17 Mile House Pub this evening (Saturday March 29) The server came by with our bill and we waited 15 more minutes for the machine when the bartender came by with it (we were the table closest to bar). He was nice. My husband left a tip because he said more than the server gets the money; fair enough. It will be quite some time before we go back, if ever again. We had the seafood fettuccine with the salmon and the portions were big and they did not skimp on the seafood. The ambience was neat as this is in a 100 year old building. The service was fast and courteous and very familiar with the area to help with planning our next adventure. read more

Stop by 17 Mile House for supper on a Wednesday night. We opted to sit Outdoors because the weather was beautiful. This Pub has the best patio area I've ever seen. Tons of seating horseshoe pit, a cornhole area, shuffleboard table Karma an outdoor stage, and tons of seating in a variety of formats. Melissa and I both opted for the same meal which was the 17 Mile House Burger with potato soup and Fries to share. Whataburger was delicious they have a mustard-based special sauce that is really tasty the burger itself was juicy toppings were fresh and it came with mushrooms. As I said delicious. I don't usually order soup with a burger the potato soup sounded really good and it did not disappoint it was delicious tasted like it was made in house. The fries we're good nothing crazy just tasty. The beer we had on top was ice cold which capped off the entire experience great patio delicious pub fare and cold draft beer. Exactly what you would expect from a good roadside Pub we are visiting here for two weeks and will definitely return to the 17 Mile House Pub. read more

When my work colleague Mitch told me he had a gift card to the 17 Mile House Pub I was literally STUNNED!!! It is my favourite restaurant. I begged Mitch to take me to lunch and after weeks of negotiations he finally agreed. In the end Mitch did not attend because he banged his hand badly and cannot use utensils at this time. I decided to eat alone and (as usual) the 17 Mile House Pub was FANTASTIC (I ate 2 bowls of soup and 1 big juice). Had eaten there before and it was good but we ordered the fish and chips today and was very disappointed. Cole slaw was incredibly bland and the fish soaked in grease. Took the leftovers home and showed the server the layer of grease on the plate but it didn't seem that they were very concerned about it. Guessing that they have such a booming business that losing local business is irrelevent. Unfortunate but given the prices of eating out not sure if I'll risk it again anytime soon. CN read more

This place is conveniently located right next to where we went zip lining while we were visiting during our cruise. We enjoyed some beers and delicious red onion rings. They had great flavor and of course with some ranch for dipping, they're even better. We love the ambiance of the outdoor space which they utilize very well. Dogs are allowed in the grass area, numerous seating arrangements on their outdoor deck, a stage for concerts, corn hole games, horseshoes, a pool table and bocci ball! Not normally one to leave a negative review but after waiting an hour and 10 minutes for food I thought it would be valid. When we expressed our frustration we were told only 5 more minutes. 20 minutes later we got our food and was fed excuses. Not once during our wait did our waitress check in on us about re fills or to make us aware of a longer wait time. Great ambience and a decent selection of beer, but don't come here for the food. Sorry to say, but for the past few years the eats at this joint have descended to - at best - factory grade. Dinner is unimaginative and is clearly not made from the best ingredients. For instance, my last steak there was tasteless, as if it had been frozen in a cardboard box for the past year. Luckily, I like HP Sauce. My Caesar salad was good but the croutons were stale and smelled vaguely of pocket lint. I did like the apple pie, even though that too was clearly from a factory box. If you're a breakfast fan, then expect cheap stringy bacon that looks like it was microwaved for a week. And don't look at your eggs too close, unless you like tasteless industrial chicken eggs that are a blotchy faded yellow. The toast is your finest cheap bagged bread, but that's fine because it's probably well-preserved. A few years back, they had a decent menu and a good cook. Not sure what happened, but I hope hope they fix it. Because as I said, the ambience is great. Final word of advice: Try not to park across the highway from the pub, especially during rush hour. Unless you are a band of Ninjas skilled at leaping speeding cars that appear without warning from around a blind corner, few of your party are likely to survive the return trip back to your car. read more

Good food, friendly and interesting atmosphere . . . being over 100 years old makes it a "real" pub more than others. Its worth coming back; I've been visiting since the 80's. Now after a 2-hour ziplining tour next door, this is a natural finish. I enjoyed the $10.95 prawn burger with fries. It was a yummy change from the norm, with garlic mayo. The 6 small prawns were fresh pan fried and filled the bun in one layer. Sure, double that would have been the ultimate. But I got what I paid for - a reasonable price - the prawns and bun were fresh, so that made up for the size, and the fries plentiful and perfectly cooked crisp outside, soft inside. The side of pub gravy for the fries was worth the extra $1.25. Mike ordered the 2-piece halibut and chips ($18.95). I The halibut came pan fried with a nicely browned crumb coating. Went here a couple weeks ago and had a decent meal so we went back this Saturday. Upon arrival as we went to sit down we were told there might be a waitlist maybe someone sitting at the bar was in line for a table (not sure how she would not know this).Waitress was very unfriendly unlike the one we had previously.She then walked away..Meanwhile a young man clearing the table asked if it was just the three of us...The waitresses unwelcome approach to us was enough we left.Then saw the three people that had just walked in the door get seated at that table...Sooke does not have a ton of restaurants and we picked this one not sure if i will again,however we were able to go somewhere else spend our money and have good service. read more

Amazing food and great service. Atmosphere is casual and homey. We were even allowed to bring our dog on the grassy area in the outdoor section. Try the salmon burger! Wonderful tasty meal. Having been here before for the prime rib special, we returned with another couple after ranting to them about how delicious it was and the huge portions they served. The last time we were here the prime rib was an inch thick and covered half the plate, Well, I have to say how embarrassed I was when the food came out and the prime rib was but two thin slices. perhaps a quarter inch thick each. My guests were definitely not impressed and after eating we all left still hungry. Considering that the meal costs 30 dollars, we were all expecting a larger portion and were very disappointed at the inconsistency of the meal. Now I don't own a restaurant, so it's not really my place to criticize the owners, but I know that the one thing about restaurants that draws return customers is consistency. When you go to McDonalds or Wendys you know ahead of time what you will receive before you even get there because they are always consistent. I understand that costs are escalating across the board and perhaps that has something to do with what happened, but I would surely have rather paid 10 dollars more for the same meal I had last time I was here, very disappointed and embarrassed. Stopped in at this pub with our 10 year old. Kids are allowed until 9pm! Atmosphere was super cool, with live country music. We all loved it! Food was awesome. It may be 17 miles to get here from Victoria, but it was a 41 Km cycle to be here. And no pint of Strongbow was ever more welcome, that is until the soup arrived. Who knew that Cauliflower and Feta used in the title to describe the soup of the day could be so right. Hot, creamy and full of the good stuff like bacon, feta, cauliflower and chunks of potato, it really satisfied the cold and hungry. The Buffalo Burger, however, lacked the same homemade flare as the soup. It was good, but definitely not homemade, hence three stars. Oh Yelp, why can't there be a half star? read more

There was a 1 star review that upon reading it made us want to come here more than any 5 star review could and we weren't disappointed. Something about no kids menu yadda, yadda. It's rainy and early spring but we saw an outdoor beer garden that beckons for returning on warmer days. The waitress was friendly, the beer cold and the loaded Poutine - YES!!! The building is cozy and reminiscent of the history of this place. Keep an eye out for humorous "Easter Eggs." We are pretty sure that if it wasn't hours of a commute 2 of those bars stools would be occupied with our bums quite often. BTW - if you don't believe that the Stars and Moon orbit your offspring this would be a fun place with many items along the walls to look at and be entertained. read more

Great place to visit for awesome food and bevs after a full day of hiking the local trails. We tried a few menu options and were very impressed. Service was quick and friendly. The various items we ordered were served hot and delicious. The outside patio is the place to be when the weather is nice and they're dog friendly (as long as your dog stays on leash and on the grass). Take advantage of the various pub games just beyond the deck, lots of fun. I lost the game so had to pick up the entire check. Live and learn! read more

This is probably the best pub burger we've had in a very long time! On the way to Sooke BC this little gem is right along the Hwy and was packed full of locals so you know it had to be good! We both ordered the "one seven burger". All their burger patties are made in house, not frozen grocery store burgers! The garden side salad was full of wonderful surprises like julienned raw beets and carrots, onions and more! This pub has been in the Wilson family since 1940, (we talked to a part owner, a great grandson of original owners) I would highly recommend this place. I would like to start off by saying we are in the industry as well and NEVER complain. But I needed the business to know how ridiculous ourexperience was. we came in at 250 pm got greeted at the bar , I asked if the patio was open which was responded with "yep!" We sat outside for 11 minutes with no server.. we even went inside after about 5 minutes looking for menus , grabbed those ourselves . And continued to wait . When we eventually left after the 11 minutes of us sitting outside , we didn't see the server at all, anywhere. And there were 3 tables of 2.. so it's not like it was bumping in there. I came here over the summer on a family trip and it was delicious! There was a good crowd, people were enjoying themselves, it looked very nice inside and we found something to talk about almost everywhere we looked. The food was delicious and it was presented really well. I got the Baja Chicken Wrap and it was honestly one of the best things I've ever eaten. It was filling while also not being too heavy and fatty. I was expecting something "healthy" and what one would assume comes with that word but I was instead brought something both healthy and amazing to eat! It was a fun environment, suited for families, couples, or large groups, and there was seating both inside and outside. I would definitely go again and I can very confidently say that I would eat the Baja Chicken Wrap again - so worth it! read more

Not many pubs dating back to 1894 in Canada, but this is one of them. They do it right here. Wish there was a little more beer selection but they do have a few local micro's on tap. This is what you think of when you hear the word pub. Main room, plus a few side ones including one with a fire place and another with a pool table. This gets a 4 mostly for atmosphere. Beers could be better and most of the fare is average pub fare. But their seafood chowder, which they are known for, is indeed fantastic. Buttery and downright decadent, it reminds me of a vol-au-vent aux fruits de mer, but in a bread bowl. They also have a games room, where no one seemed to mind us sipping beer and playing chess for hours. The old building is also awesome. So despite screwing up our order twice, they get 4 stars for general radness. read more
