This is a GREAT location with an amazing view. I grew up close to the Snug & have been going there for years. Unfortunately my last experience was a disaster. Our high school friends have been meeting there for years, however this time the management went out of their way to make our evening terrible. It was simply an impromptu event, a bunch of old high school friends showing up for a pint to reconnect. The staff, while pleasant, had reserved signs on every table & claimed there was no room in the pub which was only half full. Most of the tables remained empty all evening. Certainly not accommodating like when the Walkers were the owners! Most establishments would be welcoming & appreciate the business but after this experience our next meeting won't be at the Snug Pub! read more

Great food and service. This was my favorite out of all places we tried during our Victoria trip

The Snug is a great little place to eat! The view from the balcony is amazing. Inside seems like it would be rather sweet as well. The service was fast and friendly. Wine selection was decent and looked like a lot of other drinks as well. Our prawn dip appy was tasty, not what I excepted but good. My macaroni was amazing and filling, my wife really enjoyed her chicken burger! I would go back. 2 thing, bring $$$ and while it is "high end" there were people in bike suits that were rather sweaty so I am sure everyone is welcome! read more

I liked their halibut with beans and chorizo, but the fish was either way overcooked, or previously salted and then soaked. The texture was way off, but the flavors of the dish were good and the atmosphere is so beautiful on the patio facing the water. The staff were really nice too and they made an awesome margarita. read more

Solid 4.2! Burger, Caesar salad, truffle fries, and desserts were so delicious! The chowder needed something, and the mussels were good not amazing. It was a really great option if you stayed in the pools too long and need to eat immediately like we did. read more

Amazing fresh food, great cocktails and wonderful staff. We had lunch their on our first day. The shrimp and avocado, the tuna app and the fish and chips are all outstanding.....BUT THEN we came back late night after a disappointing experience at the Empress, and chef made us the most AMAZING NACHOS WE HAVE EVER HAD! A musy. read more

November 29, 2029. Our 38th wedding anniversary- a special day. Chose the Snug Pug. Past visits were great: good food a spectacular ocean view. Not so great this time. my usual order of fish and chips were a disappointment. The stringy fries were overcooked in a stale cooking oil.The fish had a doughy uncooked heavy coating. They can do better. read more

Bar and restaurant component of a hotel. First I am going to say that the food here is straight up bad. I have tried the nachos, salmon flatbread, mussels, and clam chowder and I could have made better versions of all of them (which is certainly saying something). The drinks, service, and atmosphere are another story entirely however. Drinks: I got an old fashion and it was fantastic. Service: I had two different servers (I went on two separate occasions) and both were incredibly friendly and attentive Atmosphere: Stunning. Some seats outside that have an incredible view that overlooks the pool and the ocean. Also have some blankets if needed to keep you warm. Some seats inside as well, and you have some of the same view if you choose to sit inside, but I can not recommend sitting outside highly enough. 7/10 read more

The view is amazing from the pub. Love the dark wood pub vibe. Food was very good. Not your typical pub food but was very good. The food is more upscale that regular pub food. Service was great and professional. read more

Great restaurant with a stunning view inside of a gorgeous hotel. The food is actually not very fancy, but they do a very good job on the options they offer in the menu. I had a steak salad with bleu cheese and fries. This dish seems simple but it was very tasty. The meat was well prepared, the blue cheese on the meat was very good and there was a sauce made with garlic that was delicious with the meat and fries. i also tried the burger and it is also a great choice. Nice staff, delicious cocktails. I loved this place! read more

Met friends for breakfast at The Snug and had high hopes for the Eggs Benedict. Sadly it disappointed on a number of levels: eggs ordered soft came rock-solid hard, hollandaise was almost unpalatably salty, and the "potato and onion hash" was standard mass-produced deep-fried potato slices with a teaspoon of fried onions right on top where the customer would be sure to see it. Service was lovely, but when my plate was left mostly uneaten at the end of the meal, the server just picked it up and said nothing. Disappointing, and I expected better for the $28 price tag. read more

Thank you for the delicious food!!! We ordered the apps only, prawns, wings and the truffle chips. They were amazing and cooked perfectly and had lots of sauce on both the wings and prawns without making them soggy. Portions were good size. We finished our meal with creme brûlée, it was something we would order again. We are your forever loyal fans! read more

I love coming here for drinks on a quiet night. Snug Pub is one of my favourite pubs in town.

I was certainly a Gilligan in the midst of a lot of Thurstons and Loveys on a recent visit to this little pub. That might have chased me off right away but I was hungry-jack hungry and was also on foot. Not too many other options nearby for a hungry, car-less Gilligan. My girlfriend and I were seated quickly on the deck on a lovely summer evening and treated to a nice view of the Straits and distant Cascade Mountains. We were also treated to a nearly 30 minute wait before anyone came to ask what we wanted. And it wasn't crowded either. Grrr. Menu here is somewhat limited but the food was quite tasty--I really liked the falafel sandwich and the excellent soup of the day (pumpkin curry), and my gf had a tasty smoked albacore sandwich (hold the bacon!). Beers were good and desserts were very good--chocolate salted caramel tart and strawberry rhubarb strudel were both yummy but I give the nod to the tart thanks to the sour cream sorbet...wow. The loooooooooooooooong wait before we were served was the only drawback to an otherwise nice dinner. read more

Came to The Snug Pub on a Saturday afternoon for a drink and a bite. We were greeted and seated immediately, at a table facing the ocean as requested. The view is spectacular. Great cocktail selection; I had a Moscow Mule and it was very well made. Finished off with a glass of Prosecco, which is hard to mess up. The waiter gave us permission to walk around the hotel with our drinks and check out some of the balconies that can't be accessed from the pub. The hotel is immaculate, and beautiful balconies surround the hotel that showcase amazing views. We ordered the Veggie Pizza to share- it was a great size for 2 people to snack on. Goat cheese, balsamic glaze, veggies, nice crispy crust. It was more of a flatbread shape, but delicious nonetheless. Our server was friendly, as was the bartender who came to check on us when our server got a little slammed. Overall, our experience was wonderful- the food, drinks, view, and service left us smiling for the rest of the day. I would go back for a full meal, or even to just sit at the bar and have a drink. The vibe of the Pub is kind of "upscale pub"...nothing pretentious, but certainly no "cheap beer and wing night" vibe. Dress code can be relatively casual, jeans are certainly acceptable, however a nicer outfit would also not be out of place. read more

Stayed at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel. Tried The Snug the first evening. Not at alllike the original but hoped it would be close. Tried the Fish and Chips (typical pub fare), disappointing as the fish (cod) was encased in a dark brown thick batter and little fish. Chips over cooked and hard. 2nd night I tried the Steak and Chips. Steak very good but again chips were over cooked and hard. Service excellent but food (chips - fries were disappointing). read more

Met a friend on Friday evening. My husband had a steak and said it was great. My friend and myself both had the mussels san frites, it was superb. The coconut broth had just enough spice, the bread was fresh and the mussels were plump and delicious. It was my husband's birthday and the brought out 2 chocolate covered strawberries on a plate with a piped Happy Birthday in chocolate, a nice touch We returned for lunch the next day as well as a snack. The crispy California roll is the best I have ever had. I highly recommend this restaurant as well as the pool side bar. read more

I went here with family for dinner tonight, specifically for the Sunday special, which was a roast dinner buffet. I really enjoyed it! The vegetables and potatoes were very flavourful and well-seasoned, and the prime rib with gravy was tender, perfectly cooked, and tasted amazing. The white chocolate macademia nut treacle was the favourite dessert - make note of it! The place is pricey, and I haven't tried their regular menu items, but the special really was worth it. I recommend it highly. read more

We ate here twice on our five night vacation. The service was great and the food was good. It was a bit pricey, but the portions were shareable. read more

Great location and ambiance. However, it is overpriced - the wines in particular. Artisan pizzas are okay, although not the best, but the atmosphere of the outdoor patio makes up for some of the experience. Had a Cobb Salad in The Snug and it was very disappointing. Large salad with an overabundance of arugula, no chicken or hard cooked egg. Protein consisted of some bacon bits. Lovely place to stop in for a drink but don't bother with the wine or food. read more

I came here for brunch with family. I was told they have fantastic eggs Benedict. I had been there before and the architecture is beautiful. Very elegant and ornate, it's definitely a pricey place....hence the hotel Rolls Royce out front. The view is gorgeous, overlooking the islands and the hotels pool and what looks to be a manicured area for weddings or receptions. We had brunch at the Snug. It wasn't in the main pub, instead we were seated to the right of the entrance which was somewhat open to the lobby. We had a reservation so we were seated promptly. Only a few tables have a direct view outside but I enjoy the view of the lobby and the grand room. The servers and wait staff were very friendly and prompt. We were seated at a lovely table with an assortment of mini jarred jams and a small jam of peanut butter, it was cute and I was tempted to take it with me. Since we had heard of the Benedict that's exactly what we ordered. My husband and I had the traditional Benedict, my brother the smoked salmon, and my sister in law had the vegetarian. Wow. Everything was hot and delicious. I was initially impressed with then asking how we liked our eggs, which I find is mostly overlooked. The hollandaise was amazing, extremely light and rich at the same time. You could tell it was freshly whipped, very light and airy. It was beautifully flavored, the richness of the eggs with the butter, and lemon. Finished with fresh chives. The muffin was very hot and tender, with a single but meaty piece of ham. The potatoes were very hot and seasoned, very crispy small rounds. I even like the touch of a half of a small tomato with a dab of pesto and melted Parmesan cheese. All in all very delicious and worth the $18 price tag. Do try!!!! One of the best bennies I've had!!!! read more

Unfortunately I cannot give the Snug my seal of approval. Except that the view is beautiful and the beer and wine are OK. My advise to the bar manager re the wine would be to locate a nice "house wine" as the other choices are into the $12 range. There are many great wines available so finding a reasonable house wine with a nice smooth taste should be easy! The food: well that's another story...I have dined there a few times with friends. My last was the "chicken dinner" apparently organic...it was tough and overcooked and tasteless. The mashed potatoes (which I was excited to have) were more like watery baby mush with barely a hint of potato...and the serving was very small. Where's the butter and cream in mashed potatoes? Not!!! It came with one carrot the size of my little finger and a beet the size of my thumb nail...to be fair I do believe there was one asparagus under the chicken. Gravy was drizzled on top. No Flavour. Tasted like it was from a box. Another time we dined we had the cheese plate which was nice with artisan cheeses and bread with the expensive wine because the server told us to not chance the house wine. The $12 wine was nice but we would like to spend less on wine. The sushi although pretty to look at had very little flavour. Sadly I hesitate going back even though it's in my neighbourhood and I had hoped to bring guests down for a drink and snack...I do hope that the Snug find tastier food offerings for the locals. I am not the only person who feels this way as the group I dined with were also not too pleased with their meals. read more

I stayed with my wife at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel and frequented the Snug Pub for dinner or drinks after dinner somewhere else. Frequented because I thoroughly enjoined the service, the flavors, and environment. The bar was manned by a very friendly staff and served amazing drinks and wine. The waiting staff was surprisingly quick and friendly. I was impressed by comparing other services in Victoria. Last but not least as previously mentioned the flavors! Sushi, main dishes, desserts all amazing. Four star size portioning as expected but filled with impressive flavor. Four star price but it's worth it if your feeling fancy or just are. read more

Hostess asked our 13yr old for ID to be seated, pretty awkward. We said he is a child so we were offered the "family section" and treated to second class service, a generous description at best. After a LONG wait for our order we were totally ignored. We had the quiche, fish and chips and nachos. All of which were excellent, nachos and fish could have been a bigger portion for the cost but that really just speaks to how delicious they were. We would have tried the deserts but the servers do not venture into the "family" section very often. Not a place for locals or people traveling with children under 19, I would not recommend. read more

Four of us had lunch here on a Wednesday. Short and sweet: the food is good and the prices a bit steep but that's normal for a hotel restaurant. You also have a lovely view from the patio and many of the inside tables as well. However, service from a waitress named Kierra was shockingly bad as detailed below. After we sat down, the waitress (thin, brown hair) asked us if we wanted drinks but we had been there for a while already and knew what we wanted, so we ordered. I didn't notice, but my aunt commented that she was very abrupt. In the middle of the meal, she didn't check on us and I had to catch her to ask for a blanket for my grandmother--that really seemed to annoy her even though I was very polite! She also brought one that was old and had leaves and dirt on it, like it had been left on the floor. Right before that, she had handed a clean, newer looking new one to a man sitting behind us. My husband ordered cheesecake for dessert, but after 15 minutes of waiting, he went inside and found someone to ask for it to go (no sign of the waitress) and for the bill. Then came the biggest confirmation that this person was just being plain rude: She brought the check and dropped it on our table without a word; no thanks, or goodbye, or sorry about the long wait for the dessert--nothing! Just PLOP. There was also some kind of mix-up with our bill, where we first told someone had paid for it (so it came to us just ready for signing and then told that was a mistake). Again, we had to go inside to figure out what was going on because she never came back. This was the second time in my entire life that I did not leave a tip. This waitress was inexplicably rude to very easy-going, polite customers. It was a terrible experience. read more

I started going to the Snug during university in the late 80s. I lived a couple of blocks away and would frequently drop in for a pint with my girlfriend and friends. It was a great spot. I moved back to Oak Bay in 2000 and would often meet my parents there for Sunday dinner as they had also moved to Oak Bay. Shortly before it closed for the rebuilding of the hotel I took my wife there to see this 'special' place. They had really let it run down and she was at a loss as to how I could speak so highly of this place. We went there last summer with my wife's grandfather to check out the new Snug and she could see why I spoke highly of it. While it has lost some of the charm that it used to have the more open space makes is preferable to me than the low ceilings and beams. We went back last weekend for our date night and had amazing cocktails, and fantastic dinner, all with a truly world class view. read more

Going downhill in my books. I have been here several times since they reopened and recently introduced my parents to it as well. We have been several times for Sunday lunch and always have the delicious Thai Prawn & Crab salad which is what you expect from the title a salad topped with prawns and crab. It also includes two delicious spring rolls on the side. We expect it to be a little pricey (Oak Bay afterall) but great service and great view. This last time we went we noticed the prices have increased which I guess is to be expected but now the portions have also decreased. This time our salad only came with 3 prawns, no crab, no spring rolls and a tiny crab cake on the side...I guess this is how they can get away with saying it is still a crab salad. Still delicious but not worth the $19!!!! Still a great view and great service but probably won't be back again if this is the direction they are going. read more
