I found this place on Yelp, as I wouldn't have found it otherwise. It's a bit off the beaten track from the touristy harbor area. The restaurant is on the smaller side. Restrooms are located upstairs, and there are no elevators, so it is not wheelchair accessible. Yelp waitlist and Yelp Reservations are available on the app, so I made a reservation and the host greeted and seated us as soon as we entered. The vibe is fun, they have a great playlist playing in the background, and a big drink menu. The food menu is pretty big, and they specialize in Korean style roasted chicken. We ordered: * Rose Pasta Appetizer - could've been an entree. It was so good and my favorite dish of everything we ordered. The sauce was so good, we saved the leftover sauce on the plate to dip our roasted chicken. 5/5 * Pan Fried Chicken Noodle - basically yakisoba noodles. Decent but a bit bland. 3/5 * Butter Curry Roasted Chicken - came with Korean rice cakes on top. 4/5. Chicken was tender and I loved that it was boneless. * Spicy Chili Roasted Chicken - we originally wanted the Volcano flavor, but the server warned us that it was really spicy, and suggested the spicy chili instead. We came here for dinner with some local friends while visiting Victoria. I wasn't expecting much at first. I mean it's just oven roasted chicken, but the experience was great. We were seated right away when we got there, and there were 8 of us. I got the soy garlic. The sauce absorbed by the rice roll was so good. The chicken was delicious, cooked to the right tenderness, not dry. Our friend also suggested the Gimmari, so we got some to share. Those were interesting and good as well, but I enjoyed the chicken and rice roll more. The server was attentive, and the food didn't take long. New location in Victoria BC "Good Ovening!" I saw this restaurant in Yelp and decided to dine here randomly just for its catchy name. LoL! wait, what... over 200 photos and no reviews? This was our last evening in Victoria BC...let's try it We were given menus... hmm, looking, looking... what to get. I decided on the Bulgogi and hubby chose the Beef Udon. Shortly after placing our order our server comes back and says that they are short of the Bulgogi beef and have only enough to fulfill one of the orders. Bummer. My hubby loves his udon so I chose something else. It took me another minute to choose their Creamy Oven Pasta. I could use a little more delicious in my day... Omgosh... best pasta meal experience I've had in our entire 4-day Victoria BC trip. I know what you're thinking... eating pasta in a Korean restaurant. I've wanted to go to Good Ovening, and finally did. I came up from Los Angeles for a vacation, and I like to go to good restaurants when I'm here. I went to Good Ovening on Sunday night. I walked in around 8pm, and they were so nice and they welcomed me, and sat me immediately. I ordered Bulgogi and some rice. This was some of the best I've had. I eat Korean a couple of nights a month, and this was amazing. The chef sent me some Kimchi and some cold mashed potatoes to go with my meal. I'm not much of a Kimchi eater, it's too spicy for me, but this was delicious; I ate all of it. The mashed potatoes were something I'd never seen in a Korean restaurant, but they worked really well with the Bulgogi. Carrie was my waitress, and she really was wonderful. All in all I recommend Good Ovening. Go, you'll love it. read more

Weird. But perhaps that's my ignorance of Asian cuisine speaking. First, the chicken is delicious. My wife had the brown rice Snowy Chicken and I had the oven roasted Chili Chicken and both were cooked wonderfully. Point of clarification - "brown rice" indicates breading, which means "oven roasted" has no breading. Both dishes came with cole slaw (which I believe is prepackaged) and "mashed potato salad," which means cold mashed potatoes. In other words, sides are a pass. Also, both entrees came with some kind of tasteless, textureless carrot-shaped food mixed in with the chicken. If there hadn't been enough chicken I could understand their inclusion as a filler, but there was more chicken than I could comfortably finish, so they could (should) have been left out of the meal. Lastly, the "snow" on my wife's chicken was (we're confident) cheese powder from boxed mac & cheese. Unappetizing and distracting. In summary, the chicken is prepared wonderfully, but everything else is...weird. read more

Went here with six family members for my birthday dinner. We waited over 30 minutes for the server to even come to our table. She took our drink order, but would not take an order for appetizers. She said that we had to order appetizers AND mains together, we could not just order appetizers, even though we were very hungry by then. My brother-in-law had eaten there many times, and had never experienced this "rule" before . He went to have a word with a server he was familiar with, to no avail. 15 minutes later we got our drinks. Another 15 minutes and she came to take our meal order. The food, when we finally got it after 1.5 hours, was very good. Too bad our overall dining experience was ruined by such poor service. I'll never eat there again. read more

The inside seemed nice as well as the staff but things went downhill pretty quickly from there. I asked if they had a happy hour beer and the bartender gave me attitude when answering "we dont do happy hour". i was a little shocked by the attitude. I was asked if i wanted to start a tab and when i said yes they asked to hold my credit card, since i didnt know what they'd do with it and i doubt if she was bonded i declined. I was told "you can trust me" i said "you dont seem to trust me" lastly they have no wait staff and when i asked about that i was told "its for the customer to have a chance to mingle with others" though i assume it's related to not trusting customers and saving money on staffing. i spoke briefly with the manager and it actually made it worse. anyway, last time ill go there as there are many other places i can go and be trusted. read more

When the service is outstanding, you can expect the food to be of good quality as well. The owner was so thoughtful and made our eating experience very enjoyable. We did not have to wait for our water to be refilled- a service that you don't see much where most would just leave a bottle of water on the table. The oven-baked soy garlic was a tasty variation from the usual deep-fried. The bulgogi had a good amount of beef unlike other places where there are more extenders than the meat itself. The highlight of our dinner was the crsipy pork belly with fried garlic and onion toppings. It was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside with just right proportion of meat and fat. The serving was good for 2-3 people and you won't break the bank for their prices. Definetely check this place out if you are visiting Victoria. read more

We dined at the Langford location. This has been a long time favorite restaurant, but this evening it was apparent they have stepped up their game. I ordered the steak sandwich with caesar salad and mashed potatoes with gravy with expectations of how it should be but all expectations were surpassed - I was unprepared for just how note-perfect the entire experience was. The presentation of our meals as arranged on our dishes left no doubt that they were prepared with great care and an aesthetic sensibility indicative of seasoned professionals who have full awareness of why people choose to dine out in the first place. I have never had a better steak! The service was impeccable as well. The wait staff were pleasant and attentive.
