The Cole slaw was very good. I think they use horseradish in it. The restaurant is very dog friendly. They even bring a doggy bed for your furry friend. Why is it that we're suddenly forced to pay $17 for French fries and gravy with a dust of Parmesan? It's ridiculous. I grew up in Quebec and poutine trucks charged $3 for French fries with gravy and cheese. Cheap deep fried food after Covid now costs three times as much. Complete rip off! read more

If you want great food, nice atmosphere and watered-down drinks, this is your place! I went with my friend, a retired Lieutenant Commander in the Canadian Navy. After a nice dinner, served by a very competent and friendly wait staff, I ordered 2 single shots of Appleton rum. The rum was more water than anything else. It was an insult to both of us, and both complained. More insulting was the bartender refused to do anything about it, and brushed me off. I ordered the balance of the bottle, about 3/4 of an ounce, and without drinking any of it, offered it to the bartender to try for himself. Again, he brushed me off, said they were too busy. I offered it to any of the staff to try, however, they were not able to try it as they were on shift. I wasn't looking to start a conversation, I was complaining about having my money stolen. My wife and I had been in this place before, always enjoyed the food, but we have had, on occasion, reason to suspect "the pour" for the drinks. Ordering two shots and getting what we got absolutely confirmed it. The Server took the "drinks" off the bill, but that was hardly the point! They should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves and should be looked into by the Liquor Control Board. read more

I got more of a watering hole/sports bar vibe than a pub but they have a varied menu with lots of choices. I ordered the hot wings and I can't say they were any good. I didn't find them crispy and they tasted like the frozen kind you'd buy at the grocery store except they were way hotter (too hot actually) and very vinagry. My husband had a pear salad which he enjoyed. I'd go back and try something else though because I did see a lot of appetizing plates go by. read more

service is slow, food was slow coming out the kitchen. The time it took to come out I wasn't even hungry anymore. my food was hard to eat with denture. The only soft food was the French fries. Read your bill ! We had a good meal but the bill had a surprise - a "Special 9" item had been added at $9. Very mysterious. I circled it to ask my server when she appeared with the card reader in hand. As I started to ask her about it, she immediately said that it shouldn't be there before I had even finished my sentence and without her actually looking at my bill ! She apparently knew already about the extra charge (but had the card reader ready anyway). How many other patrons got the $9 special ? Don't know, but won't be back. read more

I'm glad I didn't look at this restaurant on Yelp before dining here. Excellent food and service, great selection of beer. We got dropped outside of this place on a hop on hop off tour bus walked around the neighborhood didn't see anything that excited us and came back here. Glad we did. So I'm a regular (meaning I go there at least 3 times a week) and show my ID and vaccination passport each time I go in to the same "security". So yesterday my cell phone had died and my wife was out and nanny had spare set of keys, so I stop at the Beagle as ask the security guard (whose checked my ID over and over again) if I could come in for a pint and as soon as my cell charges - I'll show her my vax passport. This place has one of the best wing nights I've ever been to. The wings are large. The skin is crispy and the sauces are excellent. I decided to try the blue buck, which is a mix of hot and blue cheese together; and the whiskey bourbon, which I don't actually know how to explain - kind of like a less sweet honey garlic. Both were great but I think I liked the blue buck more overall. Not the best wing night pricing as it's $8 per plate, but you're definitely paying for quality. Went to the Beagle this morning at 11am for brunch with my adult daughter and sister in law. SIL gave her name and phone # for COVID 19 contact tracing which is required by the province. When the waitress came to drop off menus, she asked my daughter for ID. once shown, (government issued ID) she asked for another piece of ID...the waitress was not rude, but she was not smiling or welcoming in any way. I mentioned that she was not wearing any kind of face covering, to which she replied, "yes". Daughter produced another piece of ID and waitress walked away without another word. When she came back I asked her to speak to the manager. Within a minute, the manager, a man in his late 50's, arrives, also without a mask, and I ask him why staff are not wearing masks? While I speak, I am putting my mask I wore in back on. He says they choose not to wear masks and if we don't like it, we can leave. I ask him how I can protect myself while eating, from staff that approach me and are closer than 6 feet to me? He says, "Don't lecture me. If you don't like it, you can leave", which we did. My family was shook! The arrogance, rudeness and blatant ignorance of this man and how he is running the Beagle will show up in the next few months sadly, as this virus knows no limits. The staff looked flat and unenthused by their jobs, and the pub was literally just opening! I work in a hospital, and I would suggest that anyone working with high-risk individuals think twice before patronizing this establishment. I feel safer in the mall or Value Village where everyone is masked and I have the ability to keep a distance from others. read more

The Beagle is our neighborhood pub. We go there because it's nearby, the food is good, and the beer selection is excellent. More often than not, the service is the worst I've ever had. On our last visit we sat beside a table who was complaining about the service too. We weren't surprised as the server was one we've had many times. She takes your order eventually then avoids your table, and even rolls her eyes you talk. I've been many times and tried to get on her good side... Doesn't seem to work? 1 point for beer, 1/2 for food, and another 1/2 for the one lovely server we've had there. read more

I go to the Beagle mostly because it is centrally located and a convenient place for my friends and I to meet for beer, wings, or to watch a game. The food is overpriced but at least it's good; the consensus among my friends is that the Beagle needs some competition to improve the food and the service, but I don't have any complaints. The wings are some of the best I've had in Victoria, generally ranking 1st or 2nd (behind Smiths) depending on which of my friends you ask. The service is always good though the increasingly more common wait for a seat is getting tiresome. They have Driftwood Ale which is one of my favourite local beers, and they manage to offer plenty of televisions without feeling like a sports bar. All things considered I'd say the Beagle is one of Victoria's best pubs. read more

I'll keep this review short and simple. It was mother's day 2018, and after traveling all day to the area, I wanted to take my wife and child out to a nice dinner and drinks. We walked through the door and were refused service because they don't allow minors. Really, on mother's day! It's so loud and noisy and sporty, and it's not at all cozy, but the poutine is so damn good. Indeed, I'm convinced the poutine is the best in Victoria, which is too bad because it's not the kind of place I'd want to spend any real amount of time at all. I know pub tastes vary, and I guess it's too bad that I'd rather hide out in warrenous pub sounding of dull roar rather than pitched scream, because I want to eat nothing but this poutine over and over again. It's that good. The curds have the right squeak, the gravy is fully-present and not overpowering. The fries are crisp and wonderful. Nothing is wrong with it, nothing even falls short. Cute pub with lots of charm, and beers to choose from, which was my primary reason for being there. We also ordered a plate of honey-garlic wings, which were fine. Nothing to write home about. But the atmosphere of the Beagle, plus its fantastic patio, made this a great pit-stop. Service was a little slow as things picked up quickly on a Friday afternoon, but it didn't totally ruin the experience. I really love this pub for many reasons. The food is perfectly fine for the price- not exceptional, but I always leave satisfied. There is a great selection of beer. I have always had really lovely, friendly service from the servers. I really dislike this pub for one very specific reason. The way Fletcher (the bar manager, as I understand) speaks to the female staff in front of customers is atrocious. He is openly incredibly disrespectful and abuses the power imbalance. It's really disappointing. It's 2017, man - talking to your employees with respect is not revolutionary. read more

Good atmosphere, friendly service, and a very yummy veggie burger make this a regular lunch spot when I'm in town. I love that they include not only a patty, but also a portobello in the veggie burger. I've never ordered a drink, but the selection looks expansive. I came to the neighborhood after dropping off some rescue cats to PetSmart on Blanshard, and having time to kill before my reserved ferry home, I decided to get a late lunch. The place I had originally scoped out on Yelp, had gone Soley to takeout due to Covid. So, wanting some place to sit and read, I wandered down the street, and found this pub. The menu looked good, but I was really in the mood for salad. Bunny food was my desire, and the Beagle delivered. I ordered the soup of the day, a veggie/pork, and the green salad with apple fig vinaigrette. What a lovely dressing. I must thank the server who recommended it. My only issue was that the salad really needed carrots and celery, along with the cucumber and tomatoes, and assorted greens. More crunch is always appreciated. Lovely calm atmosphere, with a nice view of Cook street, and people wandering by in the cool January sunshine. I enjoyed the respite in my busy day. Thank you! read more
