Terrible experience marked by racism and xenophobia from the staff. First, I tried to enter the pub with my girlfriend, but the hostess refused to let us in, claiming we needed two forms of identification each. We showed her our IDs and a credit card each, but according to her, one of the cards wasn't acceptable as verification, even though the name and surname were clearly legible. She admitted it was readable but still raised her voice and didn't allow us to respond, insisting the name had to be "perfect" and that a slightly worn card wasn't enough. What made this even more frustrating was that the hostess was not asking Canadian citizens for two forms of identification, only foreigners like us, who are Latinos. We also noticed that she refused entry to an Indian couple for the same reason, yet Canadians were not subjected to such scrutiny. Aggressively, the bartender approached us after I explained the situation, and he sided with the hostess, telling us we had to leave. We went back to our home to get an additional ID and returned. The hostess then told us we would have to wait 30 minutes for a table. When I asked if we could sit at the bar, she said yes, but she didn't offer that option initially. At the bar, her friend, the bartender, kept staring at us with hatred. He would come near us, slam the counter, or shout into the air as if trying to bother us. We stayed at the bar for about two hours. At one point, I went to the restroom, and when I returned, the bartender sarcastically handed us the bill with a cheerful "How's it going, guys?" We thought it was standard, despite having just ordered another beer. We paid (without leaving a tip), but then a woman claiming to be the manager approached us and told us we had to leave. When I asked why, she said I had pushed the hostess when I went to the restroom, which never happened. She claimed the bartender, who had just handed us the bill politely moments earlier (clearly angling for a tip), had seen it happen. I confronted him, saying that was impossible, and he went crazy, shouting while the "manager" just stood there watching. My girlfriend called him a racist, and he almost proudly replied, "And what about it?" We left after another customer recommended we avoid trouble with those people. Now I understand why. If you're a foreigner or not racist, don't come to this place. Canadians are known for being inclusive, but this establishment does not represent that spirit at all. read more

Wow worst ever Salasa I have had. I understand heat but heat from adding too much garlic is not a culinary delight. When your mouth still burns and emits garlic every time you speak, you have missed the plot. An anti acid pill gets rid of the burn but I will for the next few days emit garlic. Thanks for the immune boost but not a fan of garlic taste in my beers now. read more

I can't believe all the negative reviews. I've been going to the tree for 20 years. Once a week in the late afternoon for beer and wings and for lunch with the wife once a month. Never had a bad meal. Great draught selection, well trained staff who remember your preferences EVERY time. My favorites are dry pepper and lemon pepper wings. read more

Good solid pub food. I'll admit I've been going here since the late 1980's . . . When it used to actually have a real tall monkey tree just outside the entrance garden. Most recently there last night for dinner and earlier this month for a group lunch. The BBQ burger was good with same and good amount of bacon, lettuce, pickle and tomato slices (onion if you want). It's a big burger patty, seasoned, tasty - I like it well done as presented, but some would say its dry. The fries are seasoned, salted, and perfectly deep fried, tastes like they cook from fresh potato - and overly plentiful. Enough fries to share. Previous lunch special was - meh. Quiche - edible with ketchup help, but tastes like it was oven cooked from frozen store bought. Salad side was good, fresh tasting, with a good deletion of dressings. Raspberry was nice choice. For the approximate $10 price it was OK. Noted comment about Saturday night music bingo - now music poker . . . These are popular games that fill the pub fast. I have found you will get a table for 4 easily at 5pm for the 7pm game start. But show at or after 6pm and you may not get a table. We've been turned away twice this year. The guy at the door is doing his job because they've been caught by the liquor inspectors for overcrowding above the approved seating. It's a bummer, but if you really want to participate, we, the, locals in the neighbourhood suggest getting there early. We never got a chance to take part in the Sat night musical bingo. It sounded like a lot of fun from our vantage point in the LINE THAT DIDN'T NEED TO BE THERE! Citing 'capacity' issues, the 2 idiots posing as doormen made 5 people stand in line for over 25 mins while we could see more than ample room to walk and sit inside the pub. These 'rules' did not apply to their assorted friends who made their way in (probably 10 people in that 25 mins) while we waited at the front of the line. When pressed by myself, one doorman said 'I didn't let that guy in...', inferring that his goon colleague did. Nice teamwork a-holes...I hope this review catches on and others can share their experiences. It was just a Saturday night, but to be met with such attitude from a small neighborhood pub was a huge turn-off. read more

This has become my neighborhood pub of choice. Good atmosphere, good service, good food. Lots of televisions to watch hockey on, and daily specials on drinks. My only complaint is that it's maybe too popular - have had to find another place to enjoy a pint on a couple of occasions when there's been a line out the door. I plan on stopping in to catch some of the playoffs - guess I'll have to arrive early! PS - Order the Greechos. Greek nachos. So good :) read more

I was disappointed in the nachos we ordered last night.They were almost burnt and the chicken had a tofu consistency.The chicken? was too heavily seasoned with hot taco seasoning.The waitresses were amazing but the kitchen left a lot to be desired. read more

Got together with 2 friends for dinner. We found a nice quiet table in the upper seating area by the fireplace. Waitress was prompt & attentive but not bothersome, drinks arrived quickly. Appys - jalapeno calamari, veggies and dip and the baked prawns were very good. Dinner - one friend had the spinach salad, the other one a burger - too bad they don't offer a gluten free selection for their burgers, and I had the club wrap. I took 1/2 my wrap and salad home as it was very filling. Would return again. Thursday night was the pizza special night and those around us seemed to be enjoying their pizzas. Best honey mustard wings I've ever had!!! 50 cent wings were on when I went definitely worth it! My server was ok. She was a little cold and didn't seem to care I didn't get her name. Our other server Rhiannon was amazing! She took our bill and always made sure my water was full :) would definitely go there again to try more of their menu! read more

I took an instant liking to this place. Partly because of the cute name, and partly because of the Old-English style layout and décor (which are shared by the Six-Mile Pub out in Langford). My friend suggested we go here for dinner. Though neither of us was drinking, I took a quick glance at the menu...prices seemed reasonable, and there was a good selection of beer. But I no Foundry or Strongbow on tap, which was a bit of a disappointment, since I do plan on coming back. The food looked pretty standard for a pub...One item I found kind of intriguing was the gluten-free (translation: non-breaded) calamari! May have to try that next time. I searched for some kind of veggie or fish option, settling on the pesto prawn wrap. My friend got the classic burger. The wrap didn't disappoint. :) The description said that it included lettuce and tomato, but mide had thinly cut bell peppers, a welcome surprise! It didn't skimp on the sauce, either, and the prawns were cooked perfectly. They serve their burgers on bioche buns, which is also a nice touch. better texture, and looks classy. Our server was wonderful...friendly and attentive! My only suggestion for this pub would be the addition of a pool table. They certainly have the space for it. read more

Today's experience was not a good one. After seating ourselves and waiting 15 minutes with no service (it was not overly busy), we grabbed our own menus. Once our server greeted us she asked "would you like to see some food menus" (which we grabbed ourselves). Once our food arrived (a couple of wraps and cold fries), we were asked "is there anything else I can grab for you?", we repled "napkins and ketchup would be nice", only to have the server say "OK, enjoy your meal" and promptly walk away. We grabbed our own napkins and ketchup... When we asked for our bill it took another 15 minutes before we walked up to the bar to pay. read more

The food was great, but the service not so much! The waitress forgot about us. She took our menus with taking our order then came back 20 min later asking if we ordered anything and was wondering why the kitchen is taking so long making our food(because she never took our order).... After we finally got our order taken and ate our meal. It then took us another 20min to try and pay. Are drinks were empty for the majority of time we were there. Attended here for our annual Super Bowl Golf Tourney. Wings were excellent. Teriyaki, lemon pepper and blue moon all great. Good beer specials and waitresses were very attractive, friendly, efficient and scantily clad. Good nice big HD flat screen TV and excellent reserved back room for our crew. Arrived at approx 4 pm for an early dinner. We shared the Bacon cheese burger and the meatover pizza. Service was quick with a pleasant efficient server. Burger was very good I thought although my wife did not. The reason i take the time to write this is that we were both VERY disappointed with the pizza, The pizza was obviously a frozen product and while i understand the reason for it I don't believe I would serve "that" quality of frozen pizza if I cared at all what customers thought. It may just be that providing a higher quality pizza is not worth their while. We would never order their pizza again. We'll go back there but stick to the beer and wings. read more

Genuine old school pub atmosphere with a modern twist. I have been coming here for the last 5 years and thought I would finally leave a review. They have recently had a menu upgrade, which includes happy hour. In my opinion the change was needed, but I'm pleased with what they've done. The staff are friendly and pretty fast. There's a bunch of TVs if you're into sports. Music bingo is on Saturday if you're into that (I'm not but it's always packed). Wings for 50 cents Tuesday and Thursday (and maybe still Sunday, I forget). The one thing that this pub has though that you won't find anywhere else is the fucking dark brown chairs. If you can snag one of those bad boys you're in for a relaxing evening, they literally hug you. read more

Food was ok. Service was complete garbage. The server Kristen took nearly 30 minutes to take our order and this was at a time when there was barely anyone at the pub. She actually didn't show up for so long that we had to go looking for her only to find her sipping on her water at the bar and chatting with the bartenders. When she brought our food she tossed everything on the table and walked off. In the end she brought our bill but never came back to collect the payment. Once again, we had to go find her to pay our bill. Once again, she was too busy chatting up the bartenders. Such a shame because this is actually a decent pub. Not going back nor will I recommend it to anyone. With such a high concentration of pubs in the area these guys need to be on top of their game. read more

For some reason I never think about pubs for Sunday Brunch, but cruised into The Tree a few weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon and found the brunch menu still available and smelling good, so why not. Ordered the Little Monkey Breakfast (Bacon, Eggs, Toast, Hasbrowns) excellent, bacon was crisp but didn't taste like it was cooked on a cookie sheet in the oven, eggs fluffy and even the hashbrowns which I generally hate were excellent, crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. Suggested it again yesterday when friends were trying to figure out someplace for food, drinks and Football and I could write the same review, Had the Big Monkey this time, and although a bit too much food for me, still prepared to the same standard. Both meals were under $10.00 bucks, combined with the normal friendly and professional service I've always had at the tree and I say this brunch is a definite "Must Try". read more
