This is a fantastic restaurant with brilliant chefs working with seasonal foods. We have spent several evenings in their dining room enjoying their menu items. The service is quick to help you design a culinary experience, including the right wine pairing. The view of the Sooke harbour entrance and out onto the Straits of Juan de Fuca and the Olympics beyond sets an excellent tone for the meal. It is a small restaurant, so reservations are recommended. There is also an outdoor patio. In addition to the culinary experience that awaits you, they have a wood-fired pizza oven; their gourmet pizzas can be eaten in or taken out. Our last time there, we arrived at seven and were lucky to get a table without a reservation. The Cowichan Beef Tartare with pickled carrots, walnuts, curried egg yolk, aged cheddar, and their crostini was terrific. We also ordered smoked wild sablefish from their small plate. We then shared the homemade Pappardelle. We left room for dessert, which did not disappoint. We ordered the Pavolova and the single-origin Peruvian chocolate pudding. We are so excited to eat here for our anniversary dinner. Staff was wonderful we sat outside. It was a little cold, but not their fault. We gotta meat charcuterie and the pasta. We also chose two of their specialty cocktails. I was not a fan of the meat, but that's just me. My husband loved it. The pasta was amazing. I wish I had a double portion. The cocktails were excellent. I wish I had paired the right cock cocktail with my pasta, however. We certainly will be back. The only reason I gave them four stars and not five is because the portion of the meat charcuterie was way smaller than what was shown online. This place is one of the most recommended restaurants in Sooke. Our hotel was nearby and within walking distance, although there were no sidewalks along the way. I made a reservation for two about a week in advance. I ordered the sourdough with sunflower spread from the first section of the menu, the weekly pizza from the third section, and the pappardelle, also from the third section. The sourdough arrived first, but within minutes, both the pasta and the pizza were brought to the table. We had not even finished our first piece of bread. The sourdough was a bit chewy, and the sunflower spread was underwhelming. I wished I had chosen the butter instead. The pappardelle, on the other hand, was fantastic and turned out to be our favourite dish of the night. The snap peas were crisp and added a pleasant texture, while the sauce was rich and buttery. The pizza, made on a sourdough base, was also quite good. It was light and airy, with well-balanced toppings such as potato, bacon, and snap peas. The bottom was slightly burnt, probably due to the flour used to prevent sticking, but it added a nice smoky flavour from the wood-fired oven. We finished with the pavlova for dessert. The berries tasted fresh, and the meringue had a lovely toasted texture. The service felt a bit rushed, and the courses were not staggered as expected. Was visiting Sooke, and was looking for a place to celebrate my husband birthday. I made reservation, highly recommend. We arrived early before it open and there was already a line. Cute restaurant, the outdoor wood fire oven was amazing. We were greeted and welcomed. We were seated, and told about the history and restaurant motto. They try and source most of ingredients locally and try to make most of their food/ingredients in house. We ordered salt cod and crab cakes to start, it was loving start to the meal. I ordered a pepperoni pizza, my husband had a soup and pasta. Everything tasted fresh. The pizza was a sourdough crust and pep was made in house. So was the pasta. The service was lovely. Farm to table restaurant that highlights unique ingredients with vegetables being standout. Restaurant is set in a converted house with a nice ambience. We most enjoyed the cowichan beef tartare, housemade wild nettle pappardelle, rye berry and oat risotto, the duck breast, and wood fired wild mushroom pizza. I think we were most disappointed by the wild mountain sourdough bread, as we found it to be a bit dry, tough and served cold as well. Tucked away on a side street is a modern and fresh cottage style house that has this lovely restaurant. They have two dining room areas, a bar section and large patio. I'd say there were only about 10-12 tables in the whole place plus a few chairs at the bar and patio seating for warmer months. Out the front as you enter, you'll pass the rather large outdoor pizza oven with delicious aromas wafting out. It's a lovely location with views of the harbour from most tables. The menu is seasonal, relatively small, and perfectly executed with sophisticated techniques and flavours. The bar menu is also well curated with local offerings and tasty sounding cocktails. I had a local lavender and rose cider which was really nice. Cheese pizza was perfect for the kids palette, and the honey mustard on the ham pizza was a nice addition. As for our mains, both dishes were delicious with wonderful flavours and had a level of attention and sophistication that the plentiful mainstream and pub style dining don't have. It was the perfect place for a celebration dinner. Service was friendly and attentive. Definitely book ahead of time. They're popular and busy and a smaller location so no doubt during weekends or holidays they're booked solid days in advance. read more

We made reservations (highly recommend this!) for a busy long weekend evening and were seated immediately when we arrived. We had a lovely seat inside the quiet room with 3 tables and were seated right by the window with a beautiful ocean view. We ordered the beef tartare, fire roasted pork loin, and prosciutto mushroom pappardelle. Everything was flavourful and delicious with interesting pairings. We were slightly disappointed with the portion of the beef tartare, especially since a friend of ours recently visited and she posted a photo of a larger portion for that dish! Nor was I expecting year-round locally sourced ingredients. The ling cod was perfectly cooked and remarkably fresh, in an intriguing kimchi sauce with etiolate rudabagas and delightful potato balls. Then there's the fact that your wait staff are the manager and the chef's wife, which adds so much to the service. Because they truly care if you liked that first bite, and know the farmer who grew those rutabagas. They're really invested in ensuring your satisfaction. This place was not for us... we had heard very good things. We found the room to be very crowded. The table we had was quite small and the floor was quite uneven (Not a problem - it's in a quaint house). I ordered fish... and I thought it was overpriced for the extremely small portion that I had. My husband has a flatbread that wasn't anything out of the ordinary. We both loved the dessert. The food wasn't anything extraordinary and yet the prices were on par with some of the fantastic places we've been to in Victoria. We won't be heading back there. A really charming 'slow food' place, probably our favorite restaurant in Sooke. Lovely outdoor seating area overlooking the water and the garden where the chefs grow their own herbs, veggies, and edible flowers. The menu changes daily as new seasonal ingredients become available. Incredible desserts, cocktails, and fantastic nonalcoholic options. The main dishes are a little bit on the spendy side, but there are great small dish options if you don't want to spend a ton. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Reservations are accepted for indoor dining, and outdoor seating is first-come-first-served. One of the best meals that I've had at a restaurant in a long time! I'm usually a little hard to please with restaurant food, so I'm not exaggerating when I say that every single thing we tasted at this place was done perfectly. I had the Gnocchi (which is made from Ricotta) and it was so perfectly pillowy and creamy! My husband had a seasonal fish dish and he said it was cooked to perfection. For dessert, we had the Portuguese donut and it was honestly one of the best pastries I've ever tasted. The serving sizes seem small, however, the food is SO good and rich and flavorful that we both left there feeling full and very satisfied. The service was also really great! UPDATE: We loved this place so much that we ordered some take out pizza from them the next night and it did not disappoint! SO good. Also, my husband needed a pizza without dairy & tomatoes, so they were kind enough to make him a pizza with an olive oil base and vegan feta instead. He said it was so delicious! Staff was incredibly rude. Waited 10 minutes for a host to finally greet us even though there was no line. Host told us we could sit in the patio area. A few minutes after sitting down a brunette server with glasses immediately came and told us we were not allowed to sit there and that there was a reservation for our seats. We would have happily moved or waited for another table but instead of being apologetic, the server was very confrontational and rude. This is a great place in Sooke if you are looking for a quality and delicious meal. I would suggest making a reservation to be on the safe side as seating is limited. The menu changes with the availability of delicious local and Canadian fare. We started off with the beef tartar and a few oysters and everything was plated beautifully and so fresh. For my main, I had the risotto which was delicious. The vegetables added the perfect crunch to the creaminess of the dish. Add the pancetta! My husband had the flat iron steak which he really enjoyed. He wanted the sirloin but it had sold out. Still no complaints and an empty plate! For dessert we had the Loganberry sorbet and it was delicious! I wasn't a huge fan of the meringue on the bottom. Beautiful setting and view. Wish I could leave a review for the food. Waited over an hour (was told the wait was 30-45 min) before giving up. I understand there are only three tables, but one of them was occupied by a group of three that was eating a pizza when we arrived. After their dishes were cleared, a fourth person arrived and they were given new menus and proceeded to order more. I don't think that guests should be able to hold a table for more than an hour until their entire group arrives. Especially when there is limited seating. We then tried to get pizza to go and were told it would take 45-55 minutes. It would have been nice if they had at least tried to accommodate us by putting a "rush" on it. What a wonderful setting, charming service and oh, the delicious meal! The setting was a cute converted house with two small dining areas, and views of the harbor. Everything was delicious, from the preserved herrings snacks to the charcuterie plate with homemade duck mousse and dried meats to the intensely flavored mushroom "risotto" made with oats and the wildly flavorful flatiron steak. I absolutely adore food establishments that operate out of old houses (like Le Marché St. George in Vancouver & Nourish in Victoria). We sat inside with a lovely view of the water and the mountains. The menu here is ever changing, depending on the season / harvest. The Mr. & I enjoyed some West Coast seafood followed by some very flavourful desserts. Our meal: 1. Albacore Tuna Tartare on cucumber with nasturtium 2. Crispy Polenta Fritters with a dill pickle dip 3. Quadra Island Clams steamed with cider, corn, tomatillos & housemade bacon 4. This was a gem recommended to us by the folks at Sheringham Distillery. I'm so glad we went. We were able to get a reso that night (highly recommend that you make one). The view on the water is stunning once you make the turn to the restaurant from the main road. The restaurant is all organic and sources locally. I had a smooth martini to start made with local vodka followed by Lock and Worth cab franc (seriously love everything this winery makes). Ordered the beef tartare, clams (so plump and juicy), flat iron steak (perfect sear and cook and melt in your mouth goodness) and lemon curd tart. Wild Mountain is a must visit while in Sooke. The food we ordered was perfect. We started off with an appetizer (which I cannot specifically remember the name and since Wild Mountain changes their menu for what's in stock/season it's no longer on the menu). The app was a salmon, raspberry, arugula flower app and was my favorite dish of the night. I had a steak and my wife ordered the dinner portion of clams. Both of us enjoyed our meals. We tried to get a pie dessert but it was out for the night and settled on a delicious chocolate pudding. I know what you must be thinking - "Okay, all he's done is rave about the food. Why four stars?" The drinks. I wish yelp would allow for a 4.5 stars because it's almost not fair to do a full star down with all the of great food we ate but I have to. We saw the cocktails and were excited to try one or two over the course of the evening. I'm not sure if we finished our first one. My wife got a rhubarb fizz and said it was far too sweet. I got a bull's eye that only tasted of lime. Honestly, everything else was superb - I would just stick to wine or beer and load up on the food. read more

This is the best meal I've had in a long time, and I live in a place with lots of great restaurants. This little restaurant just out of "downtown" Sooke is really, really, good--great food, cordial and efficient service, and a very nice, comfortable, room with a view of Sooke harbor and the Olympic Mountains in the distance. If rockfish is on the menu, you or someone in your group must order it: Wild Mountain's presentation is the most beautiful plating I have ever seen (and the fish is excellent too!). Wish I could have tried all the desserts, as they looked like they'd be really good. I think reservations are a must, so plan ahead and call them. They're open from 1700 to 2100, for dinner only. I suspect it doesn't get much better than this in the resort area around Sooke, but this place would be outstanding no matter where it was. read more

Food is yummy! A tall lady with glasses was rude. For example, I told her I have an allergy. And she was like why I didn't tell earlier? You never asked. And you guys must know that since we told over the phone. And also i gave a plate to my child so didn't have plate and utensils. She saw it but didn't tell anything before we asked. It was a group visit and my husband was skipped for drink lots of times and she never asked my drink either. I don't know why she was rude to us because we brought a child? The mussels and clams were good, a great combination of textures, but the broth was very bland and watery (3 stars). My best friend and I feel like we hit the jackpot when we dined here. We had been hiking all day and we wanted yummy food so we started checking Yelp. Found Wild Mountain and thought we'd give it a try. Perfection. Truly. Every bite is perfectly seasoned and a work of art. We were in heaven and ate every morsel. Also amazing cocktails. Everyone who works there are lovely hosts and wonderfully kind. We're from California but we hope to plan a trip to Sooke again just for this place (and the hiking).
