The spicy avocado roll was ok, no taste of any spice. The fried mushroom roll didn't taste anything like mushrooms, it tasted like onions. I wish they would put a full description of the items on the menu. The vegetable tempura and onion rings were unfortunately not fresh, it was warm, same with the spring rolls. I understand they may be making everything ahead of time however for the price, it doesn't add up with quality, especially at dinner time. The restaurant itself is nice and spaced out. The small washroom has three tiny stalls, and needs major cleaning. The service was good, the wait staff was attentive but seemed exhausted and had no facial expressions. My husband and I have been craving sushi for months, and though I can make some at home, sometimes I'm just too lazy. This is where we would go for all-you-can-eat sushi prior to the pandemic and enjoyed the iPad ordering system. We saw that you could order 168 for delivery and at really reasonable prices, so we thought why not try it out tonight. For hot foods, we ordered dim sum. We got steamed shrimp dumpling (har gow), steamed pork dumpling (siu mai), and deep fried sesame balls. I dug into these first since they were hot. The sesame ball was still super crispy and warm and perfect. I hadn't had one in so long that I nearly forgot how much I loved them until I bit into one. The har gow wrapper was a little hard at the folds, but the shrimp inside was juicy and so was the pork siu mai. They were smaller than I remembered or expected, but they were still pretty flavourful and fed my forever dim sum cravings. For maki rolls, we got two orders of the spicy salmon crisp, one rainbow roll, one spider roll, and one black snow roll in rice paper. There's no avocado or cucumber in the spicy salmon crisp roll and they were really generous with the salmon. Not really spicy, but well-made, tasted great, and the tempura flakes were still crispy. The rainbow roll wasn't rolled as tightly and started to come apart, but still tasted good. The spider roll was good because I hadn't had soft-shell crab in a long time and it was a nice change. The black snow roll was my least favourite, as I liked the texture of the rice paper but didn't realize there was no rice in it and just had a thin slice each of salmon and avocado, the rest of the roll being filled with tempura flakes. We also ordered tuna, white tuna, and salmon sashimi, and hamachi (yellowtail) and octopus nigiri. These were great and all as expected. Our order came with three sets of chopsticks and soy sauce, a teriyaki sauce, two containers each with ginger and wasabi, and the extra spicy mayo we ordered. We didn't realize we got a teriyaki sauce and not sure if it was meant to go with one of the dishes, but I opened it without looking and added wasabi to it before I realized my "soy sauce" was super thick. D'oh! It was actually nice to eat on our own time at home and some of the stuff we can still save for tomorrow or even a late-night snack. For all that, a pop, taxes, and tip, we came up to just over $100, which really isn't that much more than what we would've paid to eat-in for dinner on the weekend. I've been back here a few times since my last review in 2012. The menu has changed a bit and so has the ordering process - they have iPad ordering now. So I figured it was time to update my review. I'm still giving it 4 stars, as it's still pretty good for Ottawa. I've only returned for lunch, not dinner. Lunch on a weekday is $14.95 a person. Soft drinks are no longer included in the price. They are $1 extra. The thing I love about this place now is that they do not use sesame seeds in any of their dishes. I can't eat sesame seeds, so this is good news for me. Their maki and handrolls are good for AYCE standards. They are not made with too much rice. Ingredients tasted fresh. I like the Green Dragon Rolls and the Dynamite Rolls (which was actually pretty similar). Spider rolls are no longer on the lunch menu :( They now have General Tao chicken at this location! It's more sweet than tangy and not spicy at all. It's definitely better than at places like Manchu Wok (i.e. food court), but I've had better General Tao chicken at other sit-down restaurants. Their Beef Bulgogi is tender, but obviously not as good as at Korean Restaurants. I still love their Shrimp Dumplings (Har Gow). They are still full of shrimp, without the bamboo filler and the outside is still nice and chewy. The Pork Dumplings (Siu Mai) are also good. These are the only dim sum items they offer, but they are my favourite dim sum items, so I'm a happy camper. Their udon soups are great. The broth tastes vegetable-based and it is very flavourful. The seafood one comes with a slice of fishcake (kamaboko), a shrimp and a piece of artificial crab (surimi). It also has broccoli, bean sprouts, napa cabbage and carrots, and of course udon noodles. Their calamari has much improved. It is actually good now . Crispy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside. The yakatori (chicken skewers) was also good. Unfortunately, they didn't have popcorn chicken or enoki mushroom beef rolls anymore (or at least not for lunch, maybe they are still on the menu for dinner (?). Their ice cream was rich and creamy and I'm sure the turnover is high because there was no taste of freezer burn like at some locations. The service was very competent and polite, but no one seemed to smile. Makes me wonder what the working conditions are like there. Nonetheless, I was happy with the service. I didn't see any of the staff behave inappropriately like mentioned in previous reviews (perhaps they were reprimanded and that is why they look unhappy (?)) You pay at the cash register at the front and there is a box for tips that all servers share (I always tip them extra because I want them to be happier, lol). This location is in the strip mall at Merivale and Meadowlands, the same with that has the Winners, Laura/Melanie Lyne, Dollarama, Factory Direct and The Shoe Company. It's on the side (facing Meadowlands) next to World Burger. There is a lot of free parking. read more

First time at this place..july 5th 2019 visiting a cousin in Nepean..I was thrilled to find out that my cousin lives 2 minutes from this gem of an eatery ! It's a 2 hour drive from my place to this restaurant and I am already thinking of excuses to eat there as often as i can ! This was a great spot for a casual end-of-the-week dinner with Fauve G and her beau. We were all craving sushi, and I'd heard from my friend that 168 was great. I've been to the location in St. Laurent, and it's bigger, but I actually liked this one better. There was no wait for a seat when we got there around 7, but the place was pretty busy. Our server was really sweet, and as I mentioned in my tip, you place your order on an iPad, which I think is great. Each menu item has a photo and a description, and you just click to add it to your order. It's super handy because you can see your total as you go, so you don't end up ordering $200 worth of sushi! Our service was consistently good while we were there and the food was fresh, and pretty good! I think I say this in every AYCE review, but AYCE sushi always seems like a great idea, until you are trying to finish off your last plate of sushi rolls, and your stomach is about to burst. The hubby and I ended up here for our dinner on Wednesday at 4:45pm, absolutely starving. Having been to a lot of AYCE in Ottawa, we kept our expectations low. Firstly, the interior of this restaurant is gorgeous! I love how it is dimmed, and they have big comfy booths all along the wall. They were playing RnB/hip hop music, even some Eminem!! The service was very fast, and they brought out EVERYTHING that we ordered, which honestly, you do not see too much of that with AYCE! Wait times between orders were minimal. Some food arrived luke warm. One of our servers made recommendations on certain rolls, which was a nice touch. Being vegetarians we could not eat half the menu, but some of the items that we did try were: -Hot & sour soup (really good) -Miso Soup -Sweet potato tempura -Broccoli tempura -Vegetable tempura -Avocado roll -Cucumber roll -Sweet potato roll -House salad -Spring rolls (sub par--not the best) The food was nothing really outstanding that I have not tried at other AYCE before. read more

We also got lectured on how the robot serving food works, since we accidentally grabbed a wrong plate. Lets get to the point. A very solid jap sushi buffet. The atmoshpere is very inviting with many booths to be seated in. I got a large booth so I was very happy about it. You order from an ipad which makes things easy to order and to track. Just hate how the server needs to approve the order. Slows things down a bit. The one star I am taking off is for some food items not being delivered and having to get the server to track them down. This is annoying for any buffet. Not knowing if you should order it again or wait for it to come. The food is just like every other jap sushi buffet. But slightly above average in quality and taste. Sushi 168 is probably the AYCE sushi place I go the most often to. This is due to the fact that I live nearby and it is by far the best AYCE sushi place in Ottawa's west end (I am not a fan of Sushi Khan, 1000 Island Sushi or Hao Sushi). It's probably tied right now with Ten Sushi on Bank Street but that place is a bit further away. FOOD When I go to AYCE sushi, my focus is pretty much on the sashimi (to say I order a lot would be an understatement), and 168 hasn't really disappointed me here. Some of their specialty rolls are hit and miss but overall we generally like what we order. There are some warnings though. Like with all AYCE sushi places, I strongly suggest to stay away from anything deep fried which includes the tempura, pizza sushi, or battered and fried sushi rolls. I don't know why, but none of these places seem to do them right. There was also a bit of a drop in quality for some dishes a while back but the last few times we were here it seemed to have corrected itself. SERVICE As has been mentioned, you order using iPad's and, on a positive note, they've either upgraded the software or the hardware recently as it is a much less frustrating experience than it used to be (which was often slow and unresponsive). It is not uncommon for things you order to never arrive though, or maybe worse, arrive when you are finished eating so if something doesn't show up, you may want to enquire about it. VALUE At around $25 for the dinner menu, I don't think you can really go wrong with it. It's a lot less than going to a full fledged Japanese restaurant (which to me is a real treat as they offer dishes you can't get anywhere else). RESERVATIONS I don't know if they take reservations but even on a busy night, we haven't had to wait more than 20 minutes for a table as the place is quite large and turn over happens often. PARKING There is lots of parking outside. WIFI I often eat at 168 with two people that continually want to use WiFi even if they have data plans on their phone. Anyways, while 168 doesn't have it, they are successful getting free WiFi from the burger place next door. -------- Unless they take a downward turn in quality or a better places opens up nearby, I will definitely be returning to 168. read more

I'm a big fan of "all you can eat" sushi options and this one has become my new regular spot due to relatively decent quality and proximity to home. I love sushi and I have eaten a lot of it, so I can't give this restaurant a five star rating as it's not amazing, but it likely wont be disappointing either. The staff are very busy (or at least they give that impression) but they are still pretty prompt at refilling water and tea, and coming to take your next order. Ordering is done on an iPad which allows you to see photos of what you are getting, however there are no descriptions of what can be found in the rolls - for that you need a menu. The ambiance is not bad either. With mood lighting and darker walls influencing the noise level, it tends to be a nice outing overall. The restaurant also offers a "stamp card" for regulars, one card per person (so in our case, my husband and I cannot share a card and fill it faster, but in the end it will work out to an entirely free meal for the two of us). If you forget your card, you can ask that they sign your receipt and they will add your stamp next time. I will go back, probably many times, but my search for fantastic Ottawa "all you can eat" is not over. For now, I'm pleaseed with 168. read more

In terms of the food, the sashimi was very lacklustre. From the time that I went, the sashimi felt quite frozen. You could taste the ice cubes from the sashimi. I noticed that this was the same for each type of sashimi (tuna, salmon, red snapper). Aside from the sashimi, the sushi was relatively mediocre. There is wide vary of selection of Japanese cuisine with their maki rolls, sushi, and tempura. They also have very delicious dishes from different Asian ethnicities like Korean food and Chinese food. Their prices for their lunch service are fair. Also, when I first went there with my friends, we were one of the first groups to try out their new ordering service which involves the use of iPads instead of the traditional ordering sheets. Laughably horrible. My boyfriend and I went in November on what was apparently a very slow day, because the restaurant was almost empty. The wait staff were inattentive, and some of them were actually kind of rude. The food we ordered was horrible - the salmon in particular was mealy and unappetizing, and the unagi was bony as hell. I guess I can understand the bones somewhat - missing a few bones when cooking fish is definitely something that happens, even though it's concerning that a sushi restaurant wouldn't be careful enough to debone the eel (like every other sushi place I've tried in the city), but the mealy salmon was just ridiculous. After the first round of orders, my boyfriend and I were so shocked by how bad everything was that we paid our bill as quickly as we could and just left. I ate here back in 2015 and it was actually pretty pleasant. The food was fine, the atmosphere was nice, and I had a good time. It's like night and day from what this last experience was. Not sure what changed, but it's a hell of a shame. This is by far the worst sushi place I've ever eaten at. Pre-made Wal-Mart sushi is better than this. Complete waste of money. read more

I'm giving it a 5, because it is the very best sushi/sashimi, etc buffet that I have ever been to. Everything is fresh. The staff are fantastic. Empty dishes are picked up fairly quickly. The food is excellent. Bathrooms are constantly being cleaned. I always get the dinner menu, even at lunchtime, because I prefer sashimi and it's only available in the evening. Absolutely fabulous. And the pork shumai is to die for. I'm a regular now... I average 2 visits a month, at least. And any time anyone comes in from out of town, this is where we go for dinner. :-). I've never been to the one downtown, but I understand it's also excellent. read more

Friday evening, not even busy, at least 5-6 waiters kept passing us, no one took the empty dishes, no one stopped after we repeated raise our hands and said "excuse me!". finally, after 10 mins of trying, got one waiter's attention. came with attitude, took half of the empty dishes and left. we kept trying, 5 mins later, got another waiter, came and asked,"what do you need?". well, could you take these empties away? She argued with us when we complained about ignoring us. their power was out for 2 secs and their orders kept coming. SO? This is not what I call customer service. customers come because they enjoy your food, but mostly your service, there are other places we can go. You are NOT the only sushi place. read more

I have not tried many sushi places in Ottawa but coming from the GTA I've had my share of sushi from AYCE to menu ordered. I think 168 sushi hits a sweet spot between affordability and quality. Anyone going for AYCE sushi should not expect the highest quality, that's outrageous considering the cost of seafood. Traditionally Japanese culture would consider AYCE sushi to be blasphemy. Now that we have that aside, when you go to 168 sushi you can expect good quality, tasty sushi. Decent amount of fish in the rolls. Sashimi was fresh, tuna was better then salmon. Decent selection of non-sushi items. Unlimited drink and dessert is also a nice touch. The service itself is a bit of a hit and miss, on one occasion it took them a long time to bring out the order and we also had to order twice. On the second occasion we were served very quickly and the waiting staff was charming and made us laugh. Definitely worth a try if you're a sushi fan. read more

These guys are my go to sushi spot. All you can eat with a large menu, that's made easy to order on an iPad app. Sushi quality is really good for all you can eat and their sushi ninjas are fast to get food into me where it belongs. My friend tried octopus and almost puked which was hilarious. I thought it tasted great, but some people have weak constitutions for new food and should stick to their grandmas cooking. If you want sushi, consider coming here. If you want to consume an embarrassing amount of sushi, definitely come here. 10/10 would bang. read more
