This is a great example of how important acoustics are in a restaurant. This place is all hard surfaces - ceilings, flooring, tables, walls. So much tile and brick and hard laminate surfaces - it creates an echo chamber and such a loud din that you have to talk loud to hear yourself and lean in to your table mates to hear what they're saying - and so do all the other patrons - which makes it even louder as everyone else is talking louder to be heard over the din. It's tiring and seriously detracts from the overall dining experience. By the time our meal was over, I could feel the ache and fatigue in both ears. The staff and the food were as expected - good. We were seated along the back wall in a booth. The couple at the table behind us was clearly on a date and the guy had one of those voices that cuts through everything - including our conversation. We heard all about how his dad died a week earlier and how he blew out his shoulder in a skiing mishap and on and on and on. He did nothing wrong - but because of the acoustics, we were unintentionally eavesdropping on their conversation the entire time. In fact - no exaggeration - we could hear their conversation better than our own. Unpleasant and unfortunate. If any management from 151 reads this - please consider hiring some acoustics pros - they can work wonders for you with paneling and materials and tech that can fix this and make the dining experience so much better for your patrons (assuming that's you goal). The menu, kitchen and staff are all on-point, but it sounds like the trading floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange in there. I won't return because of this. This is a cute and casual spot! We were seated and the waiter took maybe 5-10 minutes to get our drink order but service was good otherwise! I feel like the food wait time was as expected and not too long. The charcuterie board could have probably used a little more cheese and the fruit could have been fresher (the grapes were pretty sad and withered) but other wise a good start! I really liked my food (Southwest grain bowl with chicken) but there were quite a few pokey strings from what I think is the cactus which I had to pull out of my mouth. Flavor was great though! My husband got the Crispy chicken sandwich which is a regular meal for him to order places and he had to ask for a condiment to add because it was a little dry. Otherwise, he said it was good. We made it too late for a proper meal but after a week of working inside at home, we decided to venture to downtown Elm to have a drink outdoors away from the nest and luckily for us 151 was open with plenty of indoor & outdoor seating options. What's also cool is their windows fully open to allow ample airflow for those indoors. Moving on. I asked if there was any app or any type that could be made from scraps in the kitchen to coat my stomach before a cocktail and to our surprise, our server appeared with steamy hot fries that were fried in duck fat or something else that led it to burst with flavor. Yes, I was rather hungry, but they were memorable. And much appreciated. As for cocktails, I tried two. The Damson Bramble and The Spice is Right. I don't link Vodka or Gin but learned it wax made w/ gin but you'd never know it. Because it wasn't strong tasting but boy. it snuck up on me and I slept in the next day, thankfully a Saturday. That said. I wouldn't have but for his encouragement and assurance that if I didn't dig it, he'd get me a different beverage. And it turned out to be one of the best cocktails I've ever had. We got the fried chicken & waffles, crispy chicken benedict, grilled chicken sandwich (comes with pesto, arugula, and tomato), tomato bisque, and bottomless mimosas. It definitely doesn't look like a traditional brunch spot that exclusively focuses on breakfast food, but rather appears to be a restaurant that just happens to also offer brunch on the weekends. But don't be fooled, the crispy chicken benedict on their brunch menu might be one of my favorite breakfast dishes that I've had in a while. We went on a Saturday morning, and the place was pretty empty. It's easy to miss their brunch offerings since the bulk of the menu focused on upscale American and seasonal-centric cuisine. But past all those sections is a brunch menu full of hearty and unhealthier breakfast offerings. One of the my all-time favorite brunch items was the Fried Chicken Benedict from Nosh & Booze in Chicago. Ever since they closed I've been on a hunt to find something similar, and I've seen plenty of benedict varieties but never anything close...until we came to 151 Kitchen. The crispy chicken benedict was exactly what I was looking for. I'm not a fan of just putting a regular piece of bone-in fried chicken on top of a breakfast dish so I was happy to see it came with 2 pieces of boneless fried chicken, with a perfectly crisped skin on the outside and juicy meat inside. The eggs had beautifully runny yolks just the way I like em, the gouda was a great choice to melt perfectly over the chicken, and the Fresno hollandaise was an upgrade from traditional hollandaise. It had an extra kick of both flavor and the slightest hint of spice. While the benny itself was great, the star of the plate for me were the crispy potatoes. They boiled baby potatoes, smashed them down, then fried them up to create a crispy exterior. The potatoes were tossed and coated with an amazing aioli and herbs. I usually choose traditional hash browns all day over country potatoes, but the flavor of these crispy potatoes just blew me away. Overall 151 Kitchen looks like the type of place that would be perfect for a nice dinner, but don't sleep on their brunch game. We'll definitely be back for it. read more

Clean temperature is not hot or cold, noise level is comfortable, lighten is dim. Several of the dishes are very sophisticated. Very frustrated with restaurants like 151 Kitchen where they are adding hidden "fees". What the hell is a "Market Sustainability Fee"? I'll tell you what it is. It's an extra 3% added onto your check. 151 also passes along the credit card surcharge onto your bill, another 3%. So...not only do you need to add 20-25% tip, but now it's an additional 6% on top of that. Food is average, service is average, and the value is not there. not sure if it's "sad to say", but we will not be going back. read more

I ate dinner at 151 last night (Wed.). Everything from the food to the service and ambience was exactly perfect. I ordered one of the specials of pasta and Manilla clams and the sauce was indescribable. My companion had a burger which was excellent. Riesling wine was perfect and not too sweet. Best part of the meal by far was our server, Cate. Ask for her. Her service was at least 50% of the experience. We'll absolutely go back. Great downtown vibe tucked away in a western suburb. They have an extensive drink menu with craft cocktails and great wines by the glass. Although they don't promote their menu as shareable, my husband and I shared several appetizers alomg with the shrimp and grits to enjoy more of their menu. Have you ever been in a restaurant where someone of the table behind you was talking very loudly? We sat down, and the guy behind us was LOUD. EVERYTHING HE SAID WAS LOUD. It sounded as if he was talking over a band playing, except there was no band. I told my wife that I would like to see him in the sequel to the movie "A Quiet Place", which made us laugh, but which didn't help improve our dining experience. I felt weird requesting it, but we asked to be moved, and staff of the restaurant happily obliged. We were moved to halfway across the restaurant, and I swear I could still hear that . Once happily settled in our new seat, we placed our order, and our drinks came out fairly quickly. The tomato bisque came out, and it was room temperature. For a moment, I considered that maybe they were trying to serve it like a gazpacho, But I thought better of it, and asked for them to heat it up. It was delicious at the proper temperature. The crabcake sandwich is huge, served on a hoagie roll. Most importantly, there's a lot of crab in it: I love that. There are a few Anaheim pepper slices, which provide a little zing to it, but not enough to be overpowering. Maybe the best surprise was the mac & cheese. For five dollars you get a bowl that's almost large enough for a meal. And, it's creamy and cheesy. Other than the issue with the soup, service here was top notch. I'm sure even the guy who made us move would get that message LOUD and clear. SECOND VISIT: We loved our experience so much, we returned 2 days later. This time, things weren't so great. It wasn't too busy, and we sat in the bar area to watch the game. The bartender waited on us: he was one of those overly confident people who didn't write your order down. I always hate that. My wife ordered a whiskey sour, and it came back with a cloudy consistency; it turns out that serving it with an egg white is a way to serve a whiskey sour. She liked it, so no harm done. I ordered a burger with an egg on it. The burger came out with no egg. It was tasty, but I missed the egg. Meanwhile, my wife ordered another whiskey sour. About 15 minutes later, the bartender comes back and says they're still getting the egg ready, and I thought he meant for my burger. This seemed weird, halfway into eating my burger, to tell me that an egg that takes three minutes to cook isn't done yet. It turns out, he was talking about the egg for my wife's whiskey sour. So, we canceled that order. Five minutes later, he comes back and says he has canceled the order! Also weird was the obsession today's cook had with cheese. My wife's grilled chicken sandwich, which was perfect last time, had about a 1:1 chicken:cheese ratio. And, besides the communication issues with Mr-doesn't-like-to-write-down-the-order, he also decided to spend most of his time chatting with another bartender about the game. We often had to flag down somebody else to help us out with things we needed. This place is gone for me must-visit destination in Chicago to a solid maybe. Bummer. read more

We started off with an old fashioned called the infinity no. 1. My partner really enjoyed that one and it was strong enough to get him through the meal! I had the cosmonaut and opuntia! I thought they were pretty good! For starters, we enjoyed the crab cakes! It was really good! The sauce they put on the salad was the best part. We also had the ricotta & honey toast, I wish they had more of the cranberry sauce on it but I still enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend the crab cakes! Our son had a 2.5 hour gap at his volleyball tournament in Bensenville, so we quickly looked for a place to grab a bite and have a drink or two. It was the Saturday night of Valentine's weekend, so we figured a bar was our best bet. We got lucky, however, and 151 Kitchen had a table for us without a reservation. It was pretty packed so we must have timed it right. Our waiter recommended a Foxy Stinger, a blood orange margarita, and it was very good. My wife ordered a local beer. She got the burger and I got the Cajun chicken sandwich. Both were excellent. Since we had a table in the bar area, we were able to watch a little college hoops as well. They have a varied (though limited) menu, ranging from sandwiches to seafood and steak. The folks next to us had the hanger steak, which looked delicious. It was my first time at 151 Kitchen yesterday for dinner and it is already at the top of my list of places to revisit. We came here for a friend's farewell dinner. Our reservation was for 6 PM but the winter advisory and the icy roads made everyone late almost 30 minutes. We called it in ahead of time and the staff was completely understanding and there were no issues. When we finally got there, we were pleasantly surprised to be directed to our seating that was simply stunning and exactly what we wanted (without even our requesting it). It was a private table with its own curtain to block out the noise and there was also a TV playing a video of a fireplace to set the mood. You could even adjust the lighting which was the best thing ever since I'm blind as a bat and actually enjoy being able to see my food. The food was a 10/10 on every single dish ordered. Everyone loved their food which is hard to achieve. Drinks ($13 ea): Mr. Frostbite, Opuntia, Cosmonaut, The Wintertide. I ordered the Cosmonaut and it was the perfect sweet drink to pair with my pasta. One of my friends switched out the Opuntia for Mr. Frostbite. Appetizers: Charcuterie & Cheese Board ($24), Maple Honey Pork Belly ($16). Holy smokes was the Pork Belly out of this world and seriously the best pork belly I've had at a restaurant. It was the perfect balance between crispy but melt in your mouth. The sauce was so savory and tasty. Honestly, it's the thing to order! The Charcuterie board was good. I just wish we had more than 6 crackers for the whole board. We asked for more and it was an additional $1. Mains: Shrimp & Pancetta ($19), Risotto Carbonara ($21), 151 Burger upgraded to truffle fries ($18), Short Rib Pappardelle ($23). Everyone was in love with their dish. I ordered the Short Rib Pappardelle (of course I did) and guys, it was one of the best pastas I've had. It was so filling and savory. The short rib was melt in your mouth tender. And they actually give you a really good amount of it!!! It's not like 2 pieces in a whole bowl of pasta. To be honest, there was a ton of short rib and it was absolutely amazing. It was so hard to choose what to get because everything on the menu looks delicious. Dessert: Berry & Peach Cobbler ($10), Sorbet & Gelato Trio ($8). It was simply out of this world. Our flavors were Raspberry sorbet, Mango sorbet, and Strawberry gelato. The strawberry gelato was on another level with a flavor so well developed we asked our server if it was house made. The mango was also crazy good and not sour at all. The raspberry was a bit too sour for me. The cobbler was also good, just wish it had more oats/crumble as the fruits overpowered it a bit. Service was simply impeccable. Our server, also the manager, was the best. So attentive, patient, funny, and kind. He honestly made our experience go from good to absolutely amazing. He even brought us a round of "cocktail shots" to try out the Foxy Stinger!!! What?! Anytime we had a question on a dish, he had an answer and a recommendation. Despite the fact that we were tucked away in a private corner, he was very attentive, always coming in at the right time to replace our water pitchers or to just check in on us. Prices were actually very reasonable for the portions. It's so upscale too! Nothing is worse than paying for an expensive dinner with "just okay" food/service. 151 Kitchen was worth every penny. As the night progressed, I was just more and more impressed. Everything was a hit down from the dishes, the service, and the overall dining experience. I love 151 Bar. They keep the menu simple with flavorful traditional American food. They have a fun assortment of appetizers. The cheese board is always a great way to start. It comes with several cheeses, jams, and a piece of honeycomb. My favorite entrees are the shrimp and grits and the hanger steak. Both are delicious and perfectly seasoned. Portions are generous justifying the somewhat premium price point. The bar has a great selection of beers, most of them regional. My wife has enjoyed their mixed drinks as well. read more

Great ambiance and even better food. First time experiencing one fifty one and I will be back. I got the chicken benedict with their house potatoes and it was to die for, amazing flavor! The drink menu was the most unique I've ever seen with roots and odd spices. I got the what's up doc which wasn't too sweet. It had perfect flavor. read more
