I came here to buy breakfast and I got the ackee and saltfish trust me when I saw the food I felt like I was home and the smell was so good. The staff are so friendly and very well mannered they all had a smile. This whole place reminds me of Jamaica as they have pastries and little things from Jamaica in a showcase at the front. Whatever the case, the women in the shop that night stole his money by NOT giving me food but just a huge plate of cabbage. So, wickedness and theft? This is the real deal! You're thinking what does this Asian girl from NJ know about Jamaican food. You're right not much but while in Jamaica I ate 5 days and 5 nights at this hole in the wall (actually there were no walls just a big grill with stools around it). I had the most amazing jerk chicken there and 14 Parish has one that can compete. 14 Parish also has an amazing ox tail stew. I would ask for that sauce on the rice no matter what meat you choose. Service is friendly and prices are reasonable. More of a take out type of place since they only have 3 two-seater tables. And 2 hour street parking available up and down Anderson. Hey I give this place a thumbs up! It's a small take out restaurant but the food is fresh and the servings are large enough for two people. I ordered the jerk chicken (rice and peas along with cabbage are standard with any meal) lunch portion $7.50 (tax included). There food did not disappoint me at all. I don't know what the hype was for this place or maybe using the UberEats app is the reason my food arrive incorrect but I ordered a jerk chicken (requested it to be chopped with no gravy) rice and peas with cabbage. Instead I received a jerk chicken not chopped, with curry sauce and bits of curry chicken (I loathe curry) and my cabbage had this weird taste (it was also warm not hot). The jerk chicken sauce had some kind of weird flavoring in it and I'm surprised that they use pineapples in the jerk sauce. In the south I understand it because people in the south aren't use to Caribbean heat but in New Jersey, doesn't make sense. The meat was also dry and mixing curry on top of jerk doesn't make sense to me especially when the customer request, 'no curry gravy,' I'm going to give these folks the benefit of the doubt and say, perhaps going in will work best since I have a way I like things done but I'm not convinced this food is four star worthy. Aw man! This place HOOKS YOU UP with enormous amounts of food. And what delicious food, too! First of all, the jerk chicken is amazing. There is a complexity of spices and levels of heat you feel as you finish your meal. The rice and beans are soft and tasty and compliment the meat so well. Those of you familiar with indian tandoori chicken will find similarities with this jerk chicken -- there's a smoky taste to the chicken that just makes you want to keep eating and not stop. The owner told us to try his BBQ chicken and that was awesome as well. I didn't taste the same smokiness in the BBQ chicken as was in the jerk chicken but the meat was tender and the BBQ sauce was clinging nicely to the meat and had a subtle sweetness. The meat was left whole on the bone as opposed to being chopped up as was the case with the jerk chicken. The only negative was biting into shards of chicken bone occasionally because the jerk chicken is chopped up and served like a stew over the rice. So just be careful when eating. The coconut water they sell by the cash register is wonderful -- just a shade less impressive than Harmless Harvest premium coconut water. They sell for $1, which is a bargain. Grab the pink water for a sweeter coconut water taste (it's a natural thing -- nothing artificial added). The red velvet cake in the case was yummy too. I'm sure they get from a bakery, but if not, they are great bakers. Yea, if it's not already clear -- I recommend this place. They are closed on Sunday, so go first thing Monday. Lunch specials are $7.50 and include soda and a side. For most dishes, the small portion is $8 and the large portion is $11. They take credit. Great workers/owner. I've never been to Jamaica but if all food in Jamaica were like this, I would really consider living there. It's THAT good. The location is not so great and there are no AC or enough seats there. However, this is definitely worth a go. But I would recommend you to take it to go and eat somewhere else. Service was fast for me even though other reviews said we had to wait 20-30 minutes. I tried the jerk chicken dish and the oxtail dish. They are super flavorful, perfect seasoning, and it's spot on. The jerk chicken dish is more peppery and has a kick while the oxtail dish has richer flavors. It doesn't look good in pictures or in person but it tastes awesome. I got small for both dishes and I was happy because the lady packed the to go box. But towards the end of the meal I only regretted not buying the large dish. Yes, it's that good. I will definitely be returning to try more dishes :) If you are in the area, give this hole-in-the-wall a try. There's a reason why many people gave this restaurant 5 stars. read more

I have been going to 14 Parish for over 3years now, spending $60 at a time there !!!I will never go to 14 Parish again!!! The jerk ribs I ordered was undercooked! I recooked them in a skillet when I got home. As I was recooking them I called the young lady that was helping me and she stated a manager/ owner will call me back ! I never received a call back , so I drove there ( the following day) and the manager/owner didn't even come to the front to face my concerns. I was told by the young lady that that's how the ribs are cooked according to the state!!! I don't believe the state would approve uncooked food !!! I was also told there's nothing they could do about the situation!! So I will take this to the state and see what they could do !!!! Let me start by saying the lady in the front is fantastic, very nice and friendly.... But my food on the other hand. Not so fantastic. I paid for extra gravy on the side didn't get it. My dinner was supposed to have 3 sides I paid extra for the 3rd didn't get one of the included ones. They told me on my second visit that they had run out of cabbage - I said no problem, you can give me some more plantains and it'll be fine (since I only got 1 sliver of plantain from my previous order). Nope - the lady said "nah you can't make any substitutions, we'll give you a salad" which I never wanted. Love the food here. It's satisfying. The fish/snapper and stew beef are our favorite dishes. Love the festival and other fried items but they can be a little greasy.
