Hey I give this place a thumbs up! It's a small take out restaurant but the food is fresh and the servings are large enough for two people. I ordered the jerk chicken (rice and peas along with cabbage are standard with any meal) lunch portion $7.50 (tax included). There food did not disappoint me at all. The counter help were helpful, polite, and friendly (all smiles). Also, I got this feeling a lot of regulars visit this restaurant on a daily basis. Yes, I will return in the near future.... read more

14 Parish Caribbean Kitchen - This food is freshly seasoned, and worth the wait...these oxtails are amazing! - Caribbean Near Me - Hackensack, New Jersey

Consistently excellent oxtails, rice and peas. The portion sizes were also great. I am very picky about my oxtails, so I am very glad to have a place I can stick to religiously. read more

I eat at this place so often because it is convenient, tasty and drama free. When you are In a sour mood after work and all you want to do is just get your food, lock yourself in the room, watch Friends and eat, This is your place to go. This is my comfort food. The jerk and curry chicken are my favorite. The portions are large. At first, it amount of the curry intimidated me because I wasn't certain if i would like the taste and now it's all over my rice. I asked for a spoonful and believe me, it was divine. It works absolutely perfectly with my still-a-little-bit-of-Indian-left palate. The chicken is wonderfully cooked and tender, the gravy is smoky and sweet. Just talking about it, is producing my unconditional salivation. For me, parking is always a hassle. They have a street parking here which is almost always full. I usually park across the Anderson street station and walk for 3 mins. The service is fast and I always come here to pick up their pineapple ginger drink. It tickles my taste buds. I like it. read more

14 Parish Caribbean Kitchen - Jerk chicken and curry chicken with rice and peas! Oh my god!!! - Caribbean Near Me - Hackensack, New Jersey

Very Poor customer service. Tiad fi go deh! Di woman dem a act like seh a fava dem a do. I'm supporting your business and you can't even smile? Or say hello? Black woman to black woman, when I'm smiling at you, smile back! And! Be honest with people that are buying food. For a couple years now, I've bought chicken soup and so many times there's no food in it. Just soup and mince chicken. By the time I reach home and realize seh No dumpling, no yam! Just bruk up potatoe and I was still hungry. God forbid mi go back to complain, I'm sure it will be one big argument. Other than that, some of the other food is good but i can't go back again. read more

I came here to buy breakfast and I got the ackee and saltfish trust me when I saw the food I felt like I was home and the smell was so good. The staff are so friendly and very well mannered they all had a smile. This whole place reminds me of Jamaica as they have pastries and little things from Jamaica in a showcase at the front. The food is so good. I am very picky about Jamaican food but this is better than golden Krust food. The prices are good too. read more

Aw man! This place HOOKS YOU UP with enormous amounts of food. And what delicious food, too! First of all, the jerk chicken is amazing. There is a complexity of spices and levels of heat you feel as you finish your meal. The rice and beans are soft and tasty and compliment the meat so well. Those of you familiar with indian tandoori chicken will find similarities with this jerk chicken -- there's a smoky taste to the chicken that just makes you want to keep eating and not stop. The owner told us to try his BBQ chicken and that was awesome as well. I didn't taste the same smokiness in the BBQ chicken as was in the jerk chicken but the meat was tender and the BBQ sauce was clinging nicely to the meat and had a subtle sweetness. The meat was left whole on the bone as opposed to being chopped up as was the case with the jerk chicken. The only negative was biting into shards of chicken bone occasionally because the jerk chicken is chopped up and served like a stew over the rice. So just be careful when eating. The coconut water they sell by the cash register is wonderful -- just a shade less impressive than Harmless Harvest premium coconut water. They sell for $1, which is a bargain. Grab the pink water for a sweeter coconut water taste (it's a natural thing -- nothing artificial added). The red velvet cake in the case was yummy too. I'm sure they get from a bakery, but if not, they are great bakers. Yea, if it's not already clear -- I recommend this place. They are closed on Sunday, so go first thing Monday. Lunch specials are $7.50 and include soda and a side. For most dishes, the small portion is $8 and the large portion is $11. They take credit. Great workers/owner. Love it and will be back. read more

This a pick up spot for some of thee best caribbean food in Jersey. It is a small store front - I do not believe they have seating here - but the food is delicious. Every visit I get an order of oxtails and try something new. The escovitch fish is delicious. The fish is moist and the bones are crunchy. Lol. I ordered the mac & cheese last time I went and eh. It wasn't for me. The only note I have is that I wish they gave more plantains with the order. read more

Never had issues here until I came with my boyfriend, although I've come 50-11 times on my own or with a friend. Whatever the case, the women in the shop that night stole his money by NOT giving me food but just a huge plate of cabbage. So, wickedness and theft? And I mean wickedness and theft because again I HAD NO PROBLEMS AND RAVED ABOUT THIS PLACE TO HIM! There's no food on this Earth that is worth that. No problem. We are never coming back, nor will anyone we know. May be worth while if they never see you when you order, probably not, who knows what else they do to the food before you get it. As for us? I will just wait and get food in Brooklyn like before. To respond to the owner: I shouldn't have to tell you that instead of meat my plate was filled with cabbage (not lightly, it was packed down deep and full. I didn't know one loses focus while making plates and send them that way). I'm also not driving back and forth 40+ minutes for something that shouldn't of happened. Like I said wicked, wicked women and we won't be back. Why let some prove you to be stupid by giving them money after proving you have no value? Who is supposed to be a joker here? read more

14 Parish Caribbean Kitchen - I guess I'm not worthy of food. Only my man must be, but purposely overfilled my plate with cabbage. Wicked women. - Caribbean Near Me - Hackensack, New Jersey

I've never been to Jamaica but if all food in Jamaica were like this, I would really consider living there. It's THAT good. The location is not so great and there are no AC or enough seats there. However, this is definitely worth a go. But I would recommend you to take it to go and eat somewhere else. Service was fast for me even though other reviews said we had to wait 20-30 minutes. I tried the jerk chicken dish and the oxtail dish. They are super flavorful, perfect seasoning, and it's spot on. The jerk chicken dish is more peppery and has a kick while the oxtail dish has richer flavors. It doesn't look good in pictures or in person but it tastes awesome. I got small for both dishes and I was happy because the lady packed the to go box. But towards the end of the meal I only regretted not buying the large dish. Yes, it's that good. I will definitely be returning to try more dishes :) If you are in the area, give this hole-in-the-wall a try. There's a reason why many people gave this restaurant 5 stars. read more

I don't know what the hype was for this place or maybe using the UberEats app is the reason my food arrive incorrect but I ordered a jerk chicken (requested it to be chopped with no gravy) rice and peas with cabbage. Instead I received a jerk chicken not chopped, with curry sauce and bits of curry chicken (I loathe curry) and my cabbage had this weird taste (it was also warm not hot). The jerk chicken sauce had some kind of weird flavoring in it and I'm surprised that they use pineapples in the jerk sauce. In the south I understand it because people in the south aren't use to Caribbean heat but in New Jersey, doesn't make sense. The meat was also dry and mixing curry on top of jerk doesn't make sense to me especially when the customer request, 'no curry gravy,' I'm going to give these folks the benefit of the doubt and say, perhaps going in will work best since I have a way I like things done but I'm not convinced this food is four star worthy. Just my Yelp on things. read more

Terrible. Ordered beef patty, mac & cheese, jerk BBQ chicken white meat only clearly requested. Received dry flat beef patty, mac & cheese the worst I've ever had in my life. Taste like a chemical was on it and it wasn't baked. Received dark meat, totally ignoring my request. The rice and peas had no taste but coconut milk and the cabbage was not fully cooked. It was still hard and crunchy. Worst Jamaican food and mac and cheese I've ever had. Now I have to look for food because I can't eat this. read more

14 Parish Caribbean Kitchen - Baked Mac & Cheese? Worst I've ever had, has a taste of chemical poison. You can clearly see this isn't baked macaroni and cheese. - Caribbean Near Me - Hackensack, New Jersey

Best oxtails and jerk chicken around Bergen county .... must try... oh and the fried dumplings amazing....

Really, really good jerk chicken. The sauce doesn't seem that spicy at first, but the heat gradually builds and you have a wonderful time with the more-than-generous serving of rice they give you. I'm no jerk chicken expert, but I do know what my taste buds enjoy. Staff was very friendly. read more

I have been going to 14 Parish for over 3years now, spending $60 at a time there !!!I will never go to 14 Parish again!!! The jerk ribs I ordered was undercooked! I recooked them in a skillet when I got home. As I was recooking them I called the young lady that was helping me and she stated a manager/ owner will call me back ! I never received a call back , so I drove there ( the following day) and the manager/owner didn't even come to the front to face my concerns. I was told by the young lady that that's how the ribs are cooked according to the state!!! I don't believe the state would approve uncooked food !!! I was also told there's nothing they could do about the situation!! So I will take this to the state and see what they could do !!!! Also my son was hungry and I would never feed him raw , uncooked food!!! read more

The food good but service could use some adjusting. Wish you could order from their web page. The wait sometimes can be a little crazy.

They have the best Jerk chicken in the area by far. The sauce is the boss. Make sure you order an extra side of it for dipping. The rest of their menu is great too. If you enjoy your Jamaican food spicy (as it's supposed to be), then this is the place. read more

Food is pretty good. Ordered the jerk chicken the first time and it was pretty juicy and tender - was really impressed the first time around. However, on my second visit, the jerk chicken wasn't as fantastic as I remembered. The chicken was dryer and the customer service was poorer. They told me on my second visit that they had run out of cabbage - I said no problem, you can give me some more plantains and it'll be fine (since I only got 1 sliver of plantain from my previous order). Nope - the lady said "nah you can't make any substitutions, we'll give you a salad" which I never wanted. Not going to let this small event ruin my overall initial perception of this restaurant but I will visit again and see if they improve. read more

Got to this meal from Uber Eats. A very nice lady driver delivered. I don't give everything a 5 star rating off the bat, but this is one of those places that will get one definitely. I got the fried chicken, rice with peas and mac and cheese. Not much to say other than it was really good. It arrived nice warm and delicious. This place is definitely Jamaican; I ordered the small and the portion was absolutely generous. Will this place get 5 stars from me eventually? I have no doubt about it. I will definitely order again and again. I cannot wait to try the oxtail stew. read more

Let me start by saying the lady in the front is fantastic, very nice and friendly.... But my food on the other hand. Not so fantastic. I paid for extra gravy on the side didn't get it. My dinner was supposed to have 3 sides I paid extra for the 3rd didn't get one of the included ones. So I paid extra for gravy and a side which is disappointing but then I get home and the food is cold and rather bland. I won't be back. It was expensive and disappointing read more

We went there after finding out that the Chinese restaurant across the street had closed down. Love the food here. It's satisfying. The fish/snapper and stew beef are our favorite dishes. Love the festival and other fried items but they can be a little greasy.
