Delivery Order: Decent choice for Caribbean cuisine, if you are in the mood, and this used to be my go-to, but in recent times we have had some new Caribbean joints pop up in this area, and I feel they are better. Food here is still good though, and I would definitely recommend.

Legit, delicious Jamaican food that hits the spot on the money. Had been craving Caribbean food for a while and came in for takeout for the Lunch Specials a few times and 14 Parish was ASSSSSS advertised on Yelp. This restaurant is super tiny and there are no tables or chairs, so it's 100% takeout. They don't take orders via phone, unless you provide your credit card info, so it's pretty much order in person or online. There are about 20 different lunch/dinner options to choose from and if you drop in from 11AM-4PM you can order one of those options as a lunch special - which is slightly less expensive than the small/large selections - it's not that big of a difference between the small and lunch special - but during inflation, every cent counts! :D Each entree is served with white rice/rice & peas + plantains + salad or vegetables (cabbage). So far, in the few times I've been here, we've tried the Stew Chicken, BBQ Jerk Chicken, Sweet Chili Fry Chicken, Curry Chicken and Stew Beef. Out of what we've ordered so far, the BBQ Jerk Chicken and Sweet Chili Fry Chicken were the outright winners in this bunch. The BBQ sauce on the BBQ Jerk Chicken gave it a ton of flavor. The Sweet Chili sauce on the Sweet Chili Fry Chicken was absolutely delicious and, shockingly, my first thought when I bit into the Fry Chicken was....Korean Fried Chicken (KFC)! It had the fried texture of KFC and the sweet chili flavor gave the chicken a nice sweet tang. As for the others, the Stew Chicken was decent, however the Stew Beef was on the dry side and the Curry Chicken was OK. If you've had curry chicken from an Americanized Chinese restaurant, it drew similarities in my mind. Just saying. They tend to give a lot of rice, which is in my genetic DNA to devour, and the cabbage makes for a nice side to mix it up. The employees here are super friendly and welcoming. There is a small parking lot to the side, but customers just tend to park right on the street. DEFINITELY a spot I will continue to go back to as the prices are very reasonable along with the huge portions!

Ordered via UberEats for pickup for a late lunch on a Saturday at around 2:30. It turns out they cancelled our order (without notifying us) because they had run out of the jerk pork. We ended up getting the jerk chicken and the fried chicken, with a side of rice peas and steamed veggies. The jerk chicken was good. It could have used some extra sauce (even though we had already opted for the extra sauce option). The fried chicken was not what I expected but in a good way. It comes smothered in a sweet and spicy sauce. It reminded me of gochujang or Korean fried chicken. The sauce was really good but it was salty. It will definitely have you reaching for tons of water. I was apprehensive of the steamed veggies because all of the pictures looked like it was just frozen carrots. Luckily, we got cabbage that day and it was a nice balance to all the saltiness of the food. We also ordered Jamaican beef patties and at $3.75, these were a rip off. They tasted like they came from the freezer section of a supermarket. You're better off taking that money and buying a whole box at the grocery store. We didn't eat the food until maybe about 45 minutes later, so obviously it was cold by the time we did. Next time, I'll come earlier so we can get the jerk pork, and dine in so we can eat the food fresh.

    THIS ISN'T JERK CHICKEN.

I have been going to 14 parish for years, and the food is always consistent when the owner is present. The other day i wanted some jerk chicken to bring with me to work for dinner. The jerk chicken wasn't jerk chicken, it was bland, no color, and absolutely disgusting. I don't like leaving bad reviews, but I wasn't able to eat this. Please train your staff to be consistent even when you aren't present. I won't be ordering from here again.

Curry goat with some delicious hair

We order here at least one a week. We get the same thing (large curry goat and curry chicken). This isn't the first time this has happened and it's extremely repulsive. As I sit here eating, I noticed something black sticking out of a piece of goat. Then I decided to look at the other pieces of meat and noticed more hair on another piece of goat. This must be a secret seasoning or something. Nothing worst than finding hair in your food as your eating. Not sure what is happening here, but the cleanliness is severely lacking. As mentioned, this is a reoccurring thing on the curry goat. For the prices they are charging, they could have some sort of quality control. Gloves must be expensive, but it's better than losing customers to this atrocity.

A coworker had mentioned 14 parish, so my sister and I decided to walk in and try for ourselves. Ive lived in Hackensack for 6 years, and managed to drive by this place and never see it. The young lady behind the counter was phenomenal. (I wish I could remember her name!). I told her I had already tried the curry goat and it was delicious, and my sister and I were interested in having the real jamaican experience :) That comment opened up the flood gates to what would become an 80$ take out order lol We ended up getting the curry goat again, and oxtail, beef patties, potato salad, mac and cheese, plaintains, and two drinks. (Both were also suggestions by our food consultant at the register, both bevs were deeeelish. Champagne Kola though! ) I always say, its the hole in the wall mom and pops that are the hidden gems. So glad we were able to discover this place. Every single item we tried was seasoned with love, and cooked to perfection. All the women behind the counter were so courteous and helpful. I strongly recommend everyone to try them if your ever in the Hackensack area. Thank you ladies! (It was worth every penny)

    Ackee and Saltfish Breakfast

My go-to for Jamaican food. I enjoy their ackee & saltfish for breakfast + their stew chicken for dinner. Highly recommend

On Saturday evening, Mr. Williams and the excellent team of 14 Parish Restaurant Jamaican delivered the most delicious and well put together meal for the JONJ - Jamaica Organization Of NJ. The curry goat was tender and well seasoned. The salmon was tender and tasty. This one of the best catered service I have ever experience. The staff was very helpful and friendly. 14 Parish Restaurant is my go to eating spot. Awesome spot. Pastor Oral Patrick - Ex-President JONJ

I was in the mood for Jamaican food and had this spot on the list. I ordered my food online. I ordered the red snapper and the king fish. A few minutes later they called me and said they had no red snapper and no king fish. Bummer! I went with the sweet chili salmon and the whiting. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby and walked in. I was greeted and told them my name. The nice young lady grabbed my food and handed it to me and I left. When I got in I dug in and the food was very good. The salmon was very filling and the sweet chili was very good. I also enjoyed the whiting. I had a good experience and would return.

Honestly, the best Caribbean food in Hackensack. Their oxtail is very tender. They season everything just right!

Our server was sweet and friendly. They do a massive amount of business and on a Saturday at around 5 it was completely packed. There was plenty of parking in the lot and when I went to their website to "Get in line" it said there was no wait for a party of my size (2). I was pleasantly surprised to see that was truly the case and we were seated right away. The restaurant had a cool vibe and was spotless. Our waitress could not have been nicer and our drink and food orders were taken right away. My iced coffee took a little longer than my mom's hot coffee to come out and she kept me updated with its progress which was appreciated. I ordered two lemon blueberry pancakes which came with warm syrup. They were delicious and for such an elevated breakfast it was a relief to see they were only $8.50. I was honestly surprised that at 2pm on a Sunday there was still a wait for just two people--but that usually says something about a place's popularity. Once seated, the restaurant was clean and well-kept, and our server was attentive throughout the meal. The only hiccup was the coffee--it took a bit longer than expected to arrive, which felt extra noticeable since we were craving a caffeine boost post-race. That said, the Marshmallow World cold brew was worth the wait and hit the spot perfectly. Food-wise, no complaints. I ordered The Goat omelet, which paired really nicely with the cold brew. I especially appreciated that they offer gluten-free bread--always a win when places make that effort, and it didn't feel like an afterthought. Parking is plentiful, which is a big plus for this area. Just a heads up: depending on traffic, getting on and off Route 4 can be a little tricky. The only downside? They close at 3pm, so our post-run brunch felt a little rushed--we definitely would've lingered longer if time allowed . A winning post-5k brunch that makes the early miles totally worth it.
