The chicken is tasty, can be a little less salt for me , but overall good food. My only complaint is the owner, the older gentleman that takes your money at the register. I want to say that John's Fried Chicken is perfect lunch / grab and go spot. They offer a plate of traditional Dominican food where you can choose an option of rice and a protein, but can also add on some side for an extra dollar and change. The Price is very reasonable for the quality and also if you go around the 12pm lunch hour, the food is very fresh. I have never had any stale food from here. Also, they are not stingy with their portions on top the plates of until they can barely close. Quick story- I remember this one time a new lady was serving and i heard them tell her "give him more, don't hold back" and this was without me asking! My go to is usually some arroz morro with either fried fish or beef. It always tastes as good as i remember it! Picture i added was 16$ and definitely was enough to feed two people! Pastelon is not always available but it's a must try if you like cheese and meat. Now the place has some upstairs seating and a few tables but it's not an aesthetic place by any means or that id recommend to sit at. Definitely a to go place as it's very small and can get crowded during peak times. But regardless i like supporting this business as one of my main lunch spots!!! I ordered 3 fried chicken wings and a small yellow rice with pigeon peas and was charged $12. I left thinking that was expensive for what I got. I decided to check and sure enough I was overcharged On the website it says $2.75 per wing and a small rice is $3.50... so I was overcharged $1.50. Because of the taste and how dark the skin is you can tell the oil IS OLD. I ordered from Uber eats and the app did warn me that they were closing soon. I've been eating at Johns friend chicken since i was a kid. First location in Washington Heights back in the 80's (183rd Street and St Nicholas Ave) and when that Place closed down, we would go up to Post Ave, and subsequently, other locations throughout the Heights. I recently found this place and decided to give it a try. Big mistake, for starters the fried chicken was so salty that it was unbearable to eat. I asked for salad instead of French fries, (i figured the chicken was oily enough, that i didn't want more fried stuff) and she told me that there would be a slight up charge, which i didn't mind. When all was said and done, i was charged almost $10 for this meal. The lady before me bought 3pcs with arroz con guandules and red beans and was charged less than $5. When i asked why it was so expensive compared to the person in front of me, i was told that "steamed Vegetables cost more". Look at the pictures, there's one piece of uncooked broccoli and chopped up carrots, cabbage, string beans, and corn, with oil and vinegar dressing. Far from steamed vegetables. All the food I have had has been amazing. Arroz con gandules, rotisserie chicken, pernil, black beans were all so good. First, I have always enjoyed the food at Johns. However, the service from the owners/managers could use some work. Today I wanted 6 pieces of chicken. However, the combo which included fries cost less than the per piece price. I asked if they could just charge me the combo but they did not need to give me the fries. They refused saying it was policy. So wait. You want to charge me more for less? The manager said if I throw out the fries when I leave that is up to me. I was then told that he would bring it down to "my level" and lectured how McDonalds doesn't allow substitutions. But how insulting. I am educated and was quite clear on what he was saying. I shared that I was sad that he feels his customers only frequent fast food restaurants. I shared that I always thought of Johns as a step up from those places. What a shame. read more

I came into this establishment to pick up a order that my wife had placed. It should have been something quick, in and out. And indeed, my order was ready for pickup. When I went to pay I pulled out my credit card and I was advised by the older gentleman who was helping me that the credit card reader was out of order. As I was thinking what to do next, the gentleman asked for cash. I said I didn't have enough ($47 and change). He then took the CC and proceeded to enter it manually. As I was signing, the gentleman told me that I HAVE TO CARRRY CASH. I then told him that what they need, it's to fix their CC reader. He then continued to tell me that I needed to carry cash and that he didn't care for the CC machine. He continued arguing and telling me how I should manage my finance as I was walking out ("YOU NEED TO CARRY CASH, WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN AN ACCIDENT"). I couldn't believe that this man was so ready to argue. Now a business is within their rights to be "cash only". They just need to let their customers know ahead of time so that they can plan accordingly. However, a business, employees or owner has no right to tell someone what to with their finance and then continue arguing once a response is given. Terrible customer service! Ridiculous policy. I called to order delivery and was told they couldn't deliver to my address because of the 64th location. They would be competing with them if they did. So I ask if 64th delivered and they said no. How does that make sense???? I'm left hungry because one location can deliver but won't and the other location doesn't deliver!! I come to this location easily 4 to 5 times a week religiously. I spend on each visit least 30 dollars to 50 dollars depending on the amount of people I'm getting food for . Now that's good business no matter how ignorant of business you are . A month ago I got 55 dollars food asked to use the bathroom they refused to let me . I was gonna stop doing business at that moment , but I said there local let's keep trying today I go to buy 4 turkey legs she's picking the smaller pieces and ignoring the larger ones . I say no give me the big ones what's wrong with you . She then leaves 2 smalls and picks 2 big I'm fine with it . Although upset I ask for vegetables rice and put onion she picks 3 tiny pieces of onion put its on the rice again I say put more , another lady comes says you want more onions you have to pay . Keeping in mind I never ask for onions but my brother likes them . So I say how many times I come here a week she replies nothing I say ok since you don't deserve business you don't get any from me . They could've made 50 dollars and kept the door opened for business but since they are greedy and not taking care of me they get nothing . I suggest to the store owner teach them better cause you need my business I definitely don't need you . You doors are opened cause of my money . Chicken, steak, pork, chicken wings etc are some options to pick from to accompany your food. If you like onions they have onions that they add to your plate.
