Arroz morro Meatballs Pastelon
Christian D.

I want to say that John's Fried Chicken is perfect lunch / grab and go spot. They offer a plate of traditional Dominican food where you can choose an option of rice and a protein, but can also add on some side for an extra dollar and change. The Price is very reasonable for the quality and also if you go around the 12pm lunch hour, the food is very fresh. I have never had any stale food from here. Also, they are not stingy with their portions on top the plates of until they can barely close. Quick story- I remember this one time a new lady was serving and i heard them tell her "give him more, don't hold back" and this was without me asking! My go to is usually some arroz morro with either fried fish or beef. It always tastes as good as i remember it! Picture i added was 16$ and definitely was enough to feed two people! Pastelon is not always available but it's a must try if you like cheese and meat. Now the place has some upstairs seating and a few tables but it's not an aesthetic place by any means or that id recommend to sit at. Definitely a to go place as it's very small and can get crowded during peak times. But regardless i like supporting this business as one of my main lunch spots!!! PLEASE NOTE- from reading other reviews it seems this place is not a good "fried chicken" spot, but i have never tried it, it's not the reason i go here for so take that at your own risk.

Rotisserie chicken is always on point. But if you order tostones tell them to make fresh ones because they love to refry old ones.

a pile of french fries

Never in my life have I seen such horribly fried chicken. I ordered here today for the first time and I was served refried chicken that was EXTREMELY SALTY and OLD and CHEWY. I literally could not believe it. You can tell they refried it and threw salt on it at the end to give it some razzle dazzle. Because of the taste and how dark the skin is you can tell the oil IS OLD. I ordered from Uber eats and the app did warn me that they were closing soon. BUT DAMN IF THEY DIDNT WANT TO MAKE SOMETHING FRESH JUST CANCEL THE ORDER. DONT SERVE THIS CRAP. The chicken size is also not natural. I thought I was being served turkey wings and thighs. Plus the color of the meat was just weird. Very similar to a dark pink. ALSO THERES RANDOM BURNT CRAP IN MY FRIES??! AND THE FLAN WAS A CAKEY MESS. Do not buy food from here.

Only going to review the rotisserie chicken. We ordered two to go, cut up and with mojo. My goodness it was so tender and perfectly seasoned. We had a party and everyone enjoyed pieces of the chicken. The skin, which I do not normally eat, was so good. Highly recommend, next party, order the chicken cut up and ready to serve. Your guests will thank you.

I've been eating at Johns friend chicken since i was a kid. First location in Washington Heights back in the 80's (183rd Street and St Nicholas Ave) and when that Place closed down, we would go up to Post Ave, and subsequently, other locations throughout the Heights. I recently found this place and decided to give it a try. Big mistake, for starters the fried chicken was so salty that it was unbearable to eat. I asked for salad instead of French fries, (i figured the chicken was oily enough, that i didn't want more fried stuff) and she told me that there would be a slight up charge, which i didn't mind. When all was said and done, i was charged almost $10 for this meal. The lady before me bought 3pcs with arroz con guandules and red beans and was charged less than $5. When i asked why it was so expensive compared to the person in front of me, i was told that "steamed Vegetables cost more". Look at the pictures, there's one piece of uncooked broccoli and chopped up carrots, cabbage, string beans, and corn, with oil and vinegar dressing. Far from steamed vegetables. Serves me right for trying to do the right thing by my people. See pictures. As i do with every local business, i wish them well but won't patronize them again.

Wow! I haven't had such awful food in the very long time. Food came in luke warm, driver was too dumb to even find the right building, that's last time I'm using Door Dash... dumb and rude driver, there's this thing called navigation, try using it... Chicken was rubbery, pork was burned dried to a crisp. Fries are just fries. Coleslaw was actually good. So thank you for wasting my money and time on such garbage food. Even chicken delight is 100 times better than this pile of garbage.

Rubber band in my rice

I found a rubber band in my rice. Absolutely disgusting. Especially in times of Covid19, one would expect the kitchen would have better food safety measures. Now I am forced to throw out the 30+ dollars worth of food I carried out. I won't be visiting this establishment again. My health is much too important.

Yummy

Me encanta el pernil. No es ta caro. Good food and not overpriced. Yucca con mojo is delicious, the rotisserie chicken also.

It was incredible, hearty, savory and simple. I didn't have cash so I zelled them. It's super cheap, delicious, and I love seeing all the locals popping in. Very authentic.

This place is a hole-in-the-wall in Hell's Kitchen, on a quiet street. There is limited seating…read moreboth indoor & outdoor. The staff are very friendly, despite the limited English skills (and we don't speak Spanish). The restaurant takes cash and Zelle. Both of the below entrees came with rice and (a very small portion of) plantain. *Roast Pork: I assume this was pernil. It had a nice balanced seasoning that was gently savory and went well with the rice. Not a particularly "wet" dish, don't expect a lot of sauce. *Chicken Stew: They gave us two large drumsticks of chicken stew. The marinade / sauce is VERY lightly flavored and I wish the seasoning could be stronger / more interesting. This is not the best Dominican food I ever had but I did appreciate the homey charm and the very low prices. For two servings of roast pork and one serving of chicken stew we paid $40 flat!! It was enough to serve our group of four. I don't know how many other places in Hell's Kitchen or other well-visited parts of Manhattan would be this affordable.
