After passing it numerous times, I decided to explore one of their lunch options. Spinach Patty: Initially, I was reluctant to try a vegetarian patty. As soon as I took my first bite, I immediately took a liking to this appetizer. The spinach filling was warm and tasty. And the outer crust had a slight crunch. Jerk Chicken Lunch: The chicken was tender and juicy with a mild kick. The outer skin was seasoned perfectly. Also included were two miniature cups of jerk sauce (not pictured). The reddish colored dip was great for dipping the chicken, rice & peas and even the spinach patty. I was grateful the sauce was not poured over the meal; then it would have dried up. The indoor dining area is limited to high top counters and a few outdoor dining tables. Island Spice does not have their own parking lot, but plenty of parking is available on local side streets. There is also a free municipal parking lot a few blocks away. (Sorry Golden Krust but, this is 10000000x better) This weekend I couldn't help it because I was craving oxtail. This place is 100% legit so authentic and jammed packed with delicious flavors. They have daily specials and they sell out quick. I came too late and missed their breakfast item ackee & salt fish. Next time I'll try to wake up early !! Their oxtail was so tender, juicy, saucy, paired with rice and peas and cabbage. They made sure that we had gravy on our rice too!! Their jerk chicken was grilled outdoor and it was not even dry. I cannot believe how good it was, I was so happy. Their spicy sweet chili sauce was perfection while dipping the jerk chicken. Also, I loved their Mac and cheese. It was hot, cheesy, not dry, and flavorful. A big treat is all their yummy drinks in their fridge. I suggest the Ting soda with grapefruit!!! Everyone is friendly (workers + customers) The whole restaurant is so cool because locals come and I feel that everyone just vibe with each other. They never print a receipt and now they don't seem to be passing your order to the store but the money comes out of your account. I brought this to the attention of the manager and was told that eventually the money will return to my account. But in the meantime I have no food and 2 times the amount taken out of my account since I was told to try again. I suggested that they put an out of service sign on the machines, but this idea was meet with a real Jamaican lackadaisical attitude, and this is what really hurts, because had they bothered to act on what was a known issue then this would not have happened to me. The food looked pretty decent but I immediately noticed that the person who assisted us did not have gloves on or anything covering his head. Plus, I noticed he touched his hair before he started to dish out the food. We thought that was strange as it is usually basic protocol for handling ready to eat food to prevent contamination. There are photos showing employees in this restaurant with head coverings and gloves on while serving food. Although we noticed that he did not have on gloves we did not make a fuss. However, once he started serving he had his left thumb down in the container and his left thumb started touching the vegetables we decided not complete our order. This needs to be corrected ASAP and remember to take precationary measures to return to the basics of cleanliness to prevent contamination.
