I expected real crab meat for $24 - they just slap on imitation crab and call it a day. I felt a bit ripped off. The crispy hash brown on the side was good, a little greasy. The carrot cake pancakes has a nice frosting. The butter and syrup was tasteless and okay quality. The pancake itself is quite delicious. I think this is the only thing to get out of the other options. Other items are diner stuff charged at a hefty premium. It did take quite a long time to get and when it did arrive the eggs were over cooked and brown. The toast was burnt and hard as a rock. The bacon looked and tasted like plastic. The hash browns were very greasy to the taste. My husband ordered the Bennie and the jets which to my surprise were good. They have both indoor and outdoor cafe seating. Service is really friendly. I heard it can get pretty busy on the weekends. Solid diner in the Eastlake neighborhood. There's a lot to like here! THE ROSES: Really friendly and efficient staff. In a young, hip, neighborhood like this you would tend to expect a lot of servers affecting a '2Cool4U' attitude, but the folks here treat all the customers really well and act like they appreciate your visit and your business. The food is very well prepared, and with care. The hash browns, usually kind of a 'throwaway' dish, are very well done: crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside, and not a bit greasy! Portions are very generous. Pretty much every dish is big enough for two normal appetites to share. THE THORNS: The menu doesn't have as many choices as you may see in similar diners (especially lunch offerings), but this is balanced by the fact that every dish they do serve is executed really well. No parking lot, so you have to find street parking if you're driving, and in this part of town that can be a challenge. Like pretty much all Seattle restaurants that have been impacted by the high minimum wage with no allowance for tip income, prices here are rather steep compared to similar establishments outside the city limits. Expect to drop at least $40 for breakfast for two, and plan on going north of that if you want an adult beverage with your brunch. THE VERDICT: This restaurant has been around a LONG time, and it's not hard to see why. Solid execution and thoughtful service compensate for a pretty basic menu that breaks no new ground and spendy prices. Highly recommend. read more

Super cute little spot in Eastlake! They also seem to have some limited outdoor seating and are pretty busy so you might need to wait for a seat on a weekend for brunch. The server was very kind and also very much herself and candid. It was fun joking with her and it felt very much like a neighborhood cafe. The food was really really good too. My friend regularly comes here for brunch and suggested it and I'm so glad she did! At first it used to be a grocery and meat market, then it was a variety of taverns for years, then it became the 14 Carrot Cafe. It has been run by the same family for 25+ years and is still going strong. We came here on a Sunday morning at 10:30am and were seated immediately for a party of two. I ordered the lake union scramble ($18.50) and both the scramble and the hash browns were on the bland side and needed some salt and pepper. Family gathering today and this cafe was in the neighborhood where we were centered. Cute place with good energy vibe and friendly staff that were quick and energetic. I ordered a carrot cake pancake and a side of bacon, and holy cow, the pancake was so good!!! I also tried a bit of the cinnamon roll and buttermilk pancakes from my friends, which were both also fantastic. My only gripe is that the prices were a bit steep (almost $10 for one pancake), but I suppose that's to be expected for the location. Absolutely great breakfast. We got the seasonal specials. One was a Mediterranean scramble, which was new to me and really delicious. The other was the orange poppy seed pancakes. Our server was super friendly and hilarious to chat with. He even brought us a cream cheese frosting on the house to try with our pancakes, which was amazing and decadent but it was too heavy for us to finish on the spot. Recently, my wife and I were vacationing in Arizona and we flew home extremely early the other day. I realized that this was finally my chance to stop by 14 carrot on the way home and get some grub. One thing I always complain about living downtown Seattle is there is never restaurants that feel mom and pop like. I come from a small town growing up and this is something important that I miss. Everyplace in downtown is so modern or tries to be trendy and this isn't always the best especially for breakfast. 14 Carrot Cafe was immediately the place I've been looking for! The second we walked in I knew I found a breakfast place that would be amazing. We were greated and got to select our seating. Quickly the kind waitress took our drink order and the food honestly came almost 5 minutes after. The service was great and quick. My mimosa was strong in a good way and the glass was large. Of course on an eggs Benny the poached egg is always the determine factor to make or break the meal. The eggs were cooked just right. This is been a favorite neighborhood spot of mine for the last three years. I ordered takeout today based on the photos of the menu posted. I was vey surprised by the total amount. The prices have increased significantly. I've posted pictures of the takeout menu however, the prices are $1-$1.50 higher than listed and the haven't printed the new one. The food is good and for the most part, I think the pricing is fair with a few exceptions. A slice of carrot cake is now $9 which is more than many desserts at high end restaurants. I gave the restaurant 4 stars for a a couple of reasons. One time they forgot to put avocado in an omelette on a take out order and one of their servers is not very helpful or friendly. I've had her serve me on a 3 occasions. There is another though who delightful and provides wonderful service. I still recommend the restaurant. read more
