I love 1229 Shine. I brought my family with me this time and they all raved about the food after we left. We started with the bang bang grouper bites and I wish I had ordered 2! They were gone in about two minutes between the 3 of us, not because of the quantity, but because they were so good. They were not overly spicy in case that's a worry. They have a full gluten free menu. The kids menu also includes seafood which I appreciate for my seafood loving crew. I ordered the Fry Basket with Shrimp and Oysters. My mom ordered the same but also had flounder with it. My son ordered a Caesar salad with a side of fried flounder. Everyone was very impressed with the amount and quality of the food. I honestly didn't take great pictures because we were too busy eating! It was a very busy day the day we were there bc of the Kentucky derby party but we were still seated quickly and our food came out fairly quickly. They take a lot of precautions when dealing with allergies and it was appreciated. They even identify that it is gluten free when they deliver the food as well. I can't wait to return and try the short rib macaroni and cheese. The ambiance is booths and tables around a bar. They also have a great outdoor space due kids to run around and play.

Christmas vacay was thoroughly enjoyed especially at 1229 SHINE. Service was amazing by the friendly Katie. We dined late so it was quiet. Oysters Rockefeller yum. Delicious GF fried foods. Yummy Smoked Pork belly sammie with delish cucumber salad. Cajun pasta with Scallops. Looking forward to our next vacay!!

By far, the best food I had while vacationing this month. I highly recommend the Southern Seared Scallops and anything with the catch of the day. Craig is the best server and bartender we had in MB. We happened to stop by at lunch, but I can only imagine how the garden gets filled at happy hour.

So we went here for dinner. My best friend just moved here so we wanted to celebrate. There cocktails and beers are amazing. My husband got oysters rocker fella and it was fantastic. Some of the best clam chowder I have ever eaten. This chowder was thick. The taste was amazing. We also had Coconut curry shrimp with Chili Sauce, again the taste was fantastic and the we ordered the crab and cream cheese wonton rolls so freakin good. For dinner we had Shrimp & Grits. Was so delicious!!! We also had keylime for dessert. Service was great!!!

First time hitting up 1229 Shine on the family vacation, and yeah -- this place is a whole vibe. Big ol' outdoor area with live music, plenty of room for the kids to run around without knocking over my drink (much). Tons of parking too, which in Myrtle Beach is rarer than a quiet seagull. The oysters? Forget about it -- absolutely amazing, and they had a bunch of varieties so fresh I half expected one to wink at me. The food overall was solid, the space is slick, and the drinks were cold and flowing. Service... let's just say they weren't exactly moving at NASCAR speed -- but they were friendly enough that I didn't mind the extra time to sip my drink and people-watch. If you want a chill hang with killer oysters, good eats, fresh air, and a band playing while you pretend you're way cooler than you are -- this is the spot. Just bring your patience and your appetite

Cannot speak more highly of this place. Every time we have come in it has been in the final hours and they don't bat an eyelash. They provide stellar service with delicious eats. There are neat options for gluten free and they have a dedicated fryer which is a HUGE plus!!! The fried shrimp was plush and tender. The fries were nice and shoestring styled. The drinks were tasty to boot. Love the decor and the vibe here. Oh yeah, the chicken sandwich was also quite tasty!

My family and I came back here one year later. We were so excited! The food was so good last year and we couldn't wait to dig into those BangBang grouper again. Welp, we were disappointed. Did they change chefs? Recipes? Management? It was all so different. Our waitress was very nice, but she obviously was managing way too many tables. I felt really bad for her. Our apps came before our drinks. And when we got our cocktails, they were watered down a like the sat on the bar for half hour and the ice melted in them. The calamari were rubbery. The bang bang grouper we were excited about looked and tasted different. It was ok. But didn't have last year's wow factor. No garnish and r the sauce was completely different. It was dark instead of light bang bang sauce. I wanted shrimp and grits and they were all out of shrimp - tho half the menu has shrimp in it. ‍ My sister got the Mac and cheese and it was so salty she couldn't eat it. The kale had stems on it and it was too hard and tough to eat. My son had lobster sliders and loved them! So, a star for that! I had the tiki poke bowl. It was ok. The tiki bowl I had last year was much better. Too much pineapple in the tiki one. The worst part was the way we were treated by one of the women delivering the food. My nephew ordered grouper and he got salmon instead. We tried to explain that that wasn't what he orders and were rudely cut off. He couldn't even speak! I was shocked! We told the waitress how that behavior was unacceptable. She called the manager, who wasn't onsite, and they gave us a discount on our appetizers as compensation. Better than nothing I guess. This visit on its own would have been a 2 star, but since we had such a great time our first visit, going to leave the average of 3 stars. I really hope that they just had their B crew working that day. Unfortunately, my family doesn't want to return there to find out :-(

Nov 2025 This is a great place to come for happy hour drinks, appetizers, and good sandwiches. My wife and I really enjoy this restaurant -- we usually stop in, sit at the bar, and end up talking with the locals. We always learn about new places to visit that we haven't tried yet. After finding seats at the bar, we ordered our drinks. I had a Moscow Mule, which was really good, and my wife had iced tea. We started with the Smoked Fish Dip (mahi mahi, garlic, shallots, sour cream, cream cheese, scallions, and housemade tortilla chips). I was a little hesitant because I wasn't sure how strong the smoke flavor would be. Once we tried it, there actually wasn't much smoke flavor at all. I mentioned this to the bartender, and she told us they also smoke the cream cheese. Personally, I think the flavor would come through better if only the fish was smoked, not the cream cheese. The housemade chips, though, were excellent. Next, we tried the Crab Rangoon Mozz Sticks (surimi crab, mozzarella & cream cheese, scallions, panko fried, served with sweet chili sauce). These weren't my favorite -- I'm not a fan of surimi crab. I'd rather pay a little more for real crab. For our meal, we split the Fried Chicken Sandwich (buttermilk brined, pimento cheese, house pickles, honey mustard on a brioche bun, served with an Asian cucumber salad). The sandwich itself was excellent. I wasn't a fan of the cucumber salad -- I expected something more like a coleslaw, but all the veggies were cubed. The couple sitting next to us split the Shine Burger, and it looked really good. We'll be back in a few weeks, so I think I'll try that next time. When the weather is nice out they have a great outdoor area with tv.

I love this spot. Craig was the bartender working. He has great taste! Every suggestion was delicious. The ambiance is sharp. I had deviled eggs. And oysters. The grouper is a must try

The place was busy when we got there 45 min wait but it was well worth it. Food service was slow but I expected that with how busy they were. Our waitress did a great job to make sure are drinks always remained full. We got lobster roll sliders and bang bang grouper as an app. Both were good we also got food below and some tacos from the taco truck. Every thing was delicious. So good.

Thoroughly impressed & obsessed with this spot. One of the coolest venues I've seen in Myrtle, one of the better/more unique menus (not the same old as everyone else) and genuinely has craft cocktails. Just wish I found it before heading to the airport-- would've come back for a second meal. Loved everything we ate, had speedy and kind service, and overall just loved the vibes to this spot. Will absolutely be back!

Where to begin…read more... We stayed in Myrtle Beach for about a week. Im a bit of a foodie so we like to change it up and try new places, especially when we travel. We avoid big chains and try to find local gems. Gio's was one of those gems! First, the place...Gio's is in this nice little upscale part of town, a bougie little shopping center. They got a great little corner spot. Walking in we started to worry that we were underdressed. It was a very bougie, upscale place for a pizza joint. Rest easy, we were not underdressed...I wouldn't go in a bathing suit and flip flops, but jeans and a polo were just fine. We were quickly seated and our waitress, Brie (spell check?) was quick to make her way over. (More to come about Brie in a few because she was amazing!). You can tell the owners didn't cut corners here. Nice setting, furniture, elegant but also laid back. Cloth napkins, nice glassware, it all just came together perfectly. Now the food...strap in boys and girls because . We chose this spot because we wanted some good pizza and Gio's understood the task. Being a bougie yankee myself, my pizza standards are usually difficult to meet, but Gio's did it. My wife ordered the Mediterranean pizza with no tomatoes and add grilled chicken. My little ordered a plain cheese pizza. I ordered the Prosciutto and Arugula... We all had a look of bliss on our faces at the first bite. The personal pizzas were perfect for everyone to have what they liked. I smoked mine, the wife and little had half a pizza to take home. I had a glass of the house pinot grigio. It was light, fruity and paired well with the pizza. We took an early look at the dessert menu and new this was gonna be one of those "go big or go home" dinners. The wife ordered her favorite, tiramisu. Yall, she is a bit of a tiramisu snob and she was in absolute heaven. It was a SOLID chuck of tiramisu. She smoked the whole thing!!! She rarely eats dessert much less finishes it. I ordered the affogato with pistachio gelato. Absolute fire!!!! My little got chocolate gelato but we'll talk about that when we talk about Brie. Speaking of Brie...alright lets talk about this amazing young lady...the owners are blessed to have her. She made our experience just as much, if not more than the food did. I usually try to tip well, but Im a sucker when staff go above and beyond, especially with my daughter. Brie definitely hit that mark. Whether it was her upbeat personality, her care in how she looked showing up to work, her professionalism, Brie was the employee every manager would want. She spent some time talking to my wife about perfumes, she answered all my menu questions competently and most importantly, she treated my daughter like her own little broke bestie. She was playful with her, she made her feel special and like she was one of the grown ups. Brie made her day with a chocolate gelato with "whooped cream" and cherries. She even put two cherries in her lemonade as we packed up to go. Food, ambience, service...Gio's is the total package. It is the ONLY place we will go for pizza in the Myrtle Beach area. We cannot speak highly enough of this restaurant. It will 100% be a go to spot for us every time we visit.

I honestly do not know which was best -- the amazing fresh baked pizza I enjoyed, or our server KAT! My husband (who used to be an amazing Chef/restaurant owner in his earlier days) consumed his meatball and bolognese sauce as if he had not had a meal in years! He said he would have liked the pasta a little more al dente, but will request next time. Servers come and go in the restaurant industry -- if we still had restaurants--we would have stolen KAT away to work in North Carolina! She was among the best of servers we have met while enjoying the many delicious meals of Myrtle Beach.

On Deck with a Large Appetite, tourists and locals alike fill up plates with a boat-to-buffet…read moreexperience. When visiting for a family beach trip, we decided to try this beloved seafood buffet. Along the strip in Myrtle Beach, the roads are lined with a plethora of Seafood Buffets ranging from small family owned to large attraction-like restaurants. Without having tried any of the other options, I would say this has to be the best in town. The atmosphere, staff, variety of food offerings, and taste were unmatched. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a unique buffet experience. The exterior of this restaurant is massive and felt like a large Shopping Center with beautiful landscaping, water features, beautiful windows, and colorful siding. Upon arrival, we were asked at the door our party size. They had two entry lines based on table sizes. Since our party was four, we were sent to the shorter line and did not even have to wait to be seated. As we were walked to our table, we passed massive sailing ships complete with rows of hot and cold foods. The ceiling was reminiscent of the ocean skies. The entire restaurant felt like an experience already. I was amazed by the theming, cleanliness, and attention to details. For adults, the buffet is right around $50/person + drinks and tax. The buffet is all-you-can-eat with mutiple serving lines placed around the vast dining hall. As a picky eater, I was honestly a little worried that the offerings would primarily be seafood options; however, I was happily surprised that the buffet line had a LARGE selection ranging from Chicken Tenders and Fries to Pulled Pork and Macaroni and Cheese. I was actually very excited to find so many of my favorite foods and be able to eat just a little of them all! Some other offerings I added to my plate include hush puppies, corn on the cob, fried fish sticks, rolls, and cheddar biscuits all in one trip. My brother is more adventurous in his selection and was able to try different fish and crab legs with multiple trips. They had almost two whole buffet areas filled with seafood dishes that I didn't even visit. His favorite was just the shrimp! They also have a whole dessert room with a wide range of sweet dishes. To be honest, some of the food was mediocre or tasted similar to standard buffet-food-quality. The macaroni was a little bland. The fries were a little soggy. However, the restaurant was so busy that food was being rotated and changed out quickly on the buffet line. Overall, the entire experience was fun and unique. The restaurant was very expensive for a family of four, especially when you're not eating over the top or making multiple trips; however, the nautical theming, food selections, and service set this buffet apart from many others. You'll find something to eat whether you're picky or love the most adventurous of seafood dishes.

This place is maybe cleaner, definitely larger. But the demand for crab legs at this Captain George's, makes the lines long and the wait between refills kind of annoying. It's also colder inside so your crab legs get colder faster when walking back to your seat. Cracking them becomes harder and the shells turn a bit rubbery. Food at both was yummy. You didn't have to write a review to get $10 off for this place, so the price was about dollar and change more than Seafood world. But if you don't end to write a review for seafood world, you'll be paying more there. Overall. It's worth a try but we had a good time at seafood world too. So either or is the option IMO.
