Moved down here from SF over a year ago. 101 Diner is a great diner. Consistent, hot food served by nice people. Sometimes I just want a ham n cheese omelette with well done hasHbrowns and mines always cooked to perfection and served piping hot. Don't call it a "basic" diner - everything my family has had has been really really good - from a simple omelette to bennies - anything BUT basic. We go at least once every couple weeks. read more

Tucked in the town of Encinitas on South Coast Hwy, the 101 Diner is a top spot for breakfast and lunch. I can't say I've tried their lunch, but I can share a review on their breakfast. The menu is mouth watering. It's really hard to come to a place like this when you're on a diet but I opted for something more healthy-ish. I ordered the veggie egg white omelette with a side of fruit. Delicious. They have a signature Apple Cinnamon Sugar Pancake that my husband and I had to try. This came for dessert. (I felt it needed to be capitalized it was just that good). This is a must- fresh out of the oven , it is one giant pancake baked with warm apples and cinnamon sugar. It practically melted in my mouth. The service here is phenomenal. This is what makes the restaurant right? Our waitress was the only one serving that morning and she was on top of everything- nice, funny, personable.. Really made me feel as if I'm a regular at this restaurant, although it was my first time. Needless to say, she got a nice little tip ;). Great breakfast! The Wife had the Surf & Turf Benedict and loved it. The hollandaise was spectacular, and she doesn't usually like hollandaise! I got the Apple Pancake, which was heaven on a plate. Love this breakfast spot, quick service, usually a wait for a table on the weekends or after 9am so show up early. Sitting at the bar is my favorite way to dine so we can watch the chef make our breakfast right there and the staff is prompt with the coffee and water. The benedicts are awesome as well as the waffles and acai bowls. Never had a bad breakfast there and have been back several times. You can order a half breakfast, but it is better to bring a friend and just share. read more

Yummy! My boyfriend and I went here last weekend because we didn't feel like cooking and we got up too late to go to any of the local eateries. We came here because most of the people on yelp liked this place and we decided to give it a shot. This place is small and it's definitely packed (especially since we came there on Sunday morning at around 9:15). Because we were hungry, we decided to eat at their back patio instead of waiting for an indoor booth. I ordered their Louisiana scramble and he got their corned beef hash. Although we had to wait a while until someone took our order, our food came in less than 10 minutes. Yay! We both loved our food! And the best part was that the portions weren't super huge. 101 is one of our favorite weekend breakfast spots. It's a really popular spot! There's outside and inside dining. A lot of people bring dogs and eat out front. You can put your name on a list and wait, or do what we do - look inside and see if there are any spots open at the breakfast counter. We always are able to find 2 spots. No wait and you can watch all the action of the busy kitchen! We ordered an acai bowl to share. No need to get the large. It's HUGE. The small is plenty for two people to share if you're getting something else with it. We ordered the special of the day, a carne asada omelet. They even split it on two plates for us. It was delicious!! The diner is a blast from the past and exactly what you'd imagine for a vintage diner on the 101! Casual, good food and nostalgia! We'll be back for sure! read more

hmmmm........where to go for breakfast on Sunday morning? We figured we would try this place since it's so close to home. WOW! the best breakfast I have had in north county yet! We sat at the counter and watched 3 guys cook on a line like I have never seen. Two fleas couldn't have danced in the space that these guys worked in. Show stopper!!! Most amazing local diner, it's a true gem of a place. We absolutely love coming here on weekend mornings and sitting at the bar. The menu is so creative and you can even order half of a breakfast item and then half of something else to try a little bit of everything. For example I always order the half Benedict and half açaí bowl. Savory and sweet! The chefs and the staff are always so kind and friendly and enjoy having conversations with you. Popular little hole in the wall diner along coast highway... We got there around noon for a late brunch and it was still busy, but we easily found a table. Our server was SO friendly and seemed to be running around like a chicken with its head cut off, but still managed to make recommendations and stay attentive. Both of us ordered some version of the eggs Benedict with potatoes. I had the traditional.. Yummy!! The ham wasn't one of those frozen patty things.. It was actual thinly sliced deli ham and there was a ton of it. He had the California Benedict (avo, tomato and added bacon) and he had no complaints! Looked really good. I really enjoyed my Greek omelet, it was pretty delicious my partners avocado toast was missing the arugula and Himalayan salt we added, it was also just on white bread that was seemingly not toasted, it had a pale unripe tomato on it. He was unhappy and ended up tossing it, but like I said my meal was good and the price was great! I'd like to go back and he can just avoid that the avocado toast. Awesome Brunch/Lunch joint right on the 101 in Encinitas. It is an old school diner feel with booths, counter seats, as well as outdoor seating. I chose to sit a the counter. The stools are older and perhaps not as ergonomic as modern stools, but I was digging the retro feel of sitting at the counter and watching the food be prepared. The staff were friendly and helpful. Drinks were refilled promptly. For food, I had the Acai bowl which was delicious with lots of fresh fruit as well as granola. Cannot go wrong with this one. I also had the baked apple pancake which was well worth the 20 minute wait. It was sweet but not overly so. The apples were tasty and the consistency of the pancake was on point. We're doing the Lego Land thing today. Decided to have breakfast before the whole day activities with the kiddos. This place is awesome. We had the "world famous" Greek omelette. It was superb. Wow! What a great spot. It was raining today and it seemed a lil packed inside. Wrote my name down and was immediately sat front row of where all the action takes place. The cook and waiter work hand in hand. I even saw the waiter cracking eggs and getting stuff prepped. Ordered, then I blinked and boom, my food was right in front of me! There was a lot of communication going and very fast service! As for the food I had the spicy chicken Machaca Omelette (hold the sour cream) Omg! It was mouth watering. Avocado, homemade red salsa on top. As for the inside the chicken was juicy as can be made w green chile and melted jack cheese! Added a side of fruit and a coffee and wah-la! Heaven! We read many great reviews about this diner and were stoked to come give it a shot. There was a very short wait, no problem. We were asked if we wanted to be seated out back on the patio..Sure! But before we were even seated, I noticed right away a horrible garbage smell and flies everywhere. Literally right on the other side of the fence was a full dumpster!! I immediately went back in and said no thank you and put ourselves back on the wait list. Although I would never seat customers by garbage, I do not fault them. It's a small diner and I understand that the more tables, the less the wait. We ended up with a great table outdoors Infront of the diner and ordered our breakfast. I ordered veggie egg white scramble and my husband had the eggs Benedict and eventually added a Ho-made Crab Cake ala carte. When our food came out, one of his eggs was not only broken, but partly raw (I'm talking about clear, gooey, mucous looking egg white). We showed the waitress and her response? "That's what eggs Benedict is supposed to look like". We told her runny yolk is fine but when the white is clear, it is definitely undercooked. She then proceeded to ask how we would want it cooked if we didn't want it the way that it was supposed to be. The tone in her voice was extreme annoyance and she was very short with us. "COOKED! Poached egg is cooked egg white with runny yolk!" The cook ended up recooking the egg, but not after i realized that my egg white scramble had runny, uncooked parts too. And I should mention that by crab cake was Luke warm at best.. At this point simply based on the poor attitude of the waitress alone, we will not be coming back. We are all about giving restaurants a second shot, but not when an employee clearly doesn't want to deal with paying. customers. We'll go across the street next time. Another great experience at 101 Diner. Their coffee is so good and their asparagus scramble is very tasty! Boyfriend ordered the special eggs benedict (the specialty there) with cilantro jalapeno hollandaise and he loved it. They poach their eggs perfectly so that the yolk drizzles right down and saturates the english muffin, etc. Their potatoes are nice and crispy and their homemade salsa is basically life-changing. The service was great and the guy manning the wait-list was not only super friendly, but totally on it. One lady who was just relaxing at one of the prime tables outside while she waited for the rest of her party was asked to move and free up that table so that we could sit down and enjoy a fabulous Sunday morning brunch. read more

101 It is always on my "to do" list when driving to the SD area. They always fulfill the three "F's": Fresh, Filling and Fantastic and my spanish "B's": Bueno, Bonito, y Barato. Make sure you look at their daily specials. They change everyday. My favorite dish their has to be the Carne asada California Eggs Benidict which is a house special and not an everyday menu item. It's basically the California Eggs Benidict with avocado, carne asada and tomato. Yummy! The second time we went, we all tried different dishes. I had their hawaiian pancakes which are pancakes with fresh bananas and pineapple chunks in them topped with coconut syrup. Sounded great but once I tried them, I noticed the syrup was too thick and too sweet. My daughter had their apple pancakes which basically tasted like apple pie. Good- in moderation or else, the sweetness will get to you. My husband had the machaca omlette which was out of this world!! The sauce was not spicey and it was perfectly cooked. This place is only open half the day so check hours of business. It is SO worth trying! read more

First time eating here last week. Outstanding service and the food was really good! The decor is especially fun! My one year old loved the car & surfboards. My daughter has a dr we see not too far. We're always looking for a new place to eat when in the area. My daughter had the Mickey Mouse pancake which came with a little fruit. She enjoyed it. So unfortunately we didn't get to eat here so this is a review of the 10 minutes we were waiting to be seated. This place looked super popular. We walked over and didn't see any signage or directions telling us how to be seated or reserve so i walked in and an employee told me there's a notebook outside where i can place my name and number of guests. i put my name and 2 for the number in my party. I saw one group ahead of us and we saw them waiting as well, looked like a group of 4. all other names on the list were crossed off. We waited about 15 minutes and noticed another party sat down, didn't look like they had marked their name on the notebook, seems like they had "skipped the line". But we don't know for sure. By this point we were pretty hungry so we walked across the street and ate at that diner instead. Unfortunate we didn't get to eat here as i was told it's pretty good. Maybe another time when I have more patience and it's less busy. If you're covid cautious I'd avoid it as it's a bit crowded. read more
