My problem was with the waitress, she asked us if everything was okay initially once the food came and before we could even open our mouths to respond she's walking away, never brought waters I asked for, never came to refill coffee until after she brought check, never came back to check asked how things were or tell us there's an upcharge to split. Came on a Friday morning at 8. This place was busy, but there was one booth available. Both indoor and outdoor seating are offered. Menus are right at the table. Love the Skate Special offered on the weekdays. This is comfort diner food. Coffee was decent and a topper was given half way through the meal. Bacon was crispy. Pancakes were fluffy and came with a generous helping of whipped butter. This place has old school diner decor that feels homey. I like that this place isn't stuffy or trendy. Straight up old school diner but with new school menu items. I had the Cardiff crack Benedict and the shaved ham with avocado. Both were excellent. Perfectly cooked poached eggs, buttery hollandaise, salty meats = perfection. If I were to be hyper critical, the potato's were a bit bland but nothing a little salt couldn't fix. I arrived with my disabled son and his ADA certified service dog at 11:30am for lunch. It was busy and we stepped inside to leave our name. Before we could even enter completely, a waitress (middle-aged woman with light brown curly hair, who later said she was the manager) was shaking her head, passing us without stopping saying "no - outside! No dogs." I started to tell her this was an ADA service dog but she talked loudly over me saying "I don't have time to talk about a dog." I let her pass, went to the counter, and asked another employee if there was a manager or owner in the restaurant. That's when the waitress - still without stopping - said "that's me, that's me" and the other employee waved her off as if he would "handle it." He said "what do you need?" and I said "we'd like to have a lunch, and I'm not sure why we're being treated like this. It's against the law." He just said "we're really busy." I said ok, well how long is the wait?" "I don't know." I was a waitress for years - being busy is no excuse for treating anyone, especially a child, with such disdain. We left, of course. My son was already embarrassed and I wasn't going to get into an argument in front of him. We face questions and even challenges about my son's disability and service dog all the time. But we have NEVER been treated so rudely. It was infuriating, ignorant, and illegal. It's also just plain old ugly discrimination. Shame on this woman and this establishment. read more

This greasy spoon is an Encinitas institution and far be it for me to go against all the awesome feedback. They do a great job and their reviews definitely show it, so I'm just going to pile on top with another one. They're fast, inexpensive, tasty, and served by some super friendly staff. It's not exactly the most health conscious menu, but if you're eating at the 101 you've gotta just embrace it and enjoy. My advice if you're by yourself...post up at the bar on the north side of the restaurant, order a California omelet with their insanely good potatoes, and just take all the surroundings in. If you're new to the neighborhood like I am, it's a great way to get all the local gossip. Great spot overall, and I definitely see myself being a regular. read more

We've become regulars. Their food is consistently good. The people who work here are alert, fast, courteous and seem to like their jobs. Our kids love their side steaks. I love the fact that they allow me to order a kids meal for myself---I'm no longer the big eater I was before. It's kinda fun to sit right there at their counter and watch them cook. We also like to sit at their counter when they're running a wait for tables. The only downside here is the fact that they leave their front doors wide open. This brings in the flies. I'd buy them neon "Open" sign from Costco if they'd promise to close their front doors. read more

Big menu, good food, and big portions! I had the chipotle eggs benedict and it did not disappoint! My hubby had the corned beef hash and he was not impressed. 101 Diner has great atmosphere, food and service. They are easily my kids favorite place to go out for breakfast for good reason. Located off Coast Highway in the heart of Encinitas it's a great location to get a bite to eat and then explore. Parking can take a couple minutes on weekends during the summer which at most entails walking a block. Most of the time, I find parking on the street in front of the restaurant. The atmosphere is perfect beach diner. They have great indoor and outdoor seating. Outside, you can sit on the sidewalk in front of the store or the quieter back patio. The interior is decorated with a mishmash of beach memorabilia and art. Service has always been first class. At worst, it's been friendly and efficient. Regularly however, the staff makes you feel like you've come home and truly excels at service. The food from the kitchen is consistently excellent. It is always worth checking the daily specials on the chalkboard. They are often exceptional treats like their Asparagus Scramble. The standard menu always delivers too. My go to is their California Benedict with the optional bacon. I'll be back because they are always a sure thing. read more

We saw the egg benedict pics on yelp and came to this place on a Sunday at 11.30. Waited 5 mins and got seated. They have outdoor seating as well. We had ham benedict with avacado and cilantro and greek omelette minus the greek in it(feta and olives out). Both were super delicious. Our food cane super hot. That made it more delicious.
