This was one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to. After a beautiful day at Burchart Gardens, we decided to end the day having dinner at a restaurant on the water. I ordered 2 fish tacos for $5 a piece and they were literally 2 bites each and were absolutely awful! The fish was mushy and almost nonexistent. I also ordered a California roll that came 10 minutes after we had finished our meal. I ended up canceling it because I didn't want to eat alone. My boyfriend ordered a shrimp salad for $28. It was a small mediocre salad with about 2 tablespoons of what looked and tasted like canned shrimp. I don't know how this establishment stays in business! read more

Rabin was not our waiter but he did get us dessert menues and the bill. The restaurant was not that busy after 2pm but our waitress did not come back to us. Rabin was very efficient and attentive a most delightful waiter, we were very pleased with him. I realize Ten Acres is separate from Pier Hotel but we were surprised that the girl serving in the Bar was very naked at the back also wearing jeans. This visit was deeply disappointing and nowhere near the standard this restaurant once maintained. I dined here in November 2024 and had an excellent experience, which is why I confidently recommended it for a lunch outing. Based on this most recent visit, that confidence was misplaced. My meal was served on a visibly dirty plate. That is not a minor oversight -- it is a fundamental failure. Cleanliness is the bare minimum in food service, particularly at nearly $30 per entrée. There is no justification for serving food on a dirty dish. I later felt unwell, which only heightened my concern about overall hygiene practices. The food itself did not justify the pricing. The lamb burger was dry and lacked the juiciness one would reasonably expect, even with tzatziki. The fries were low-grade and out of place for a restaurant positioning itself at this price level. Premium pricing demands premium execution. That standard was not met. The revised dining layout also detracts from the experience. The high tables and chairs create an uncomfortable and less welcoming atmosphere. Notably, during our visit, no guests chose to sit at them -- everyone gravitated toward standard seating. That alone speaks volumes. Restoring the previous table configuration would significantly improve comfort and ambiance. The service was equally underwhelming. At this price point, guests should receive attentive, polished, and genuinely welcoming service. Instead, both the waitress and food runners appeared disengaged. When customers are spending this much, attitude and professionalism are not optional -- they are expected. After returning home, I reviewed feedback from the past year and was struck by the consistency of similar complaints. The pattern is clear: standards have declined. This establishment was once very good. It is capable of better. However, until cleanliness, food quality, atmosphere, and service standards are brought back to where they were, it cannot justify its pricing. At this level, "acceptable" is not enough. Terrible service and mediocre food. French onion soup had a strange vinegary flavor with bits of bacon. Fish and chips was a lot of batter on the fish and not that great. The house salad was good as was the water. Food took forever to come out and waitress would not look our way. I do not recommend this place. read more

I was shocked to see so many one-star reviews of the 10-Acres cafe! I had a pleasant experience there, last time visiting Sidney, and decided to give it a try notwithstanding the negative Yelp reviews. So glad I did.. the restaurant was virtually full but I was seated promptly and served by a very pleasant young lady (BIMALA) from Nepal. She was attentive and the Farmers Omelette was delicious. It came out within 10 minutes, was hot and served with delicious onion potatoes. Looking around, I saw that people were enjoying their various breakfasts and I was perplexed by the unhappy Yelp reviewers! Very odd. Maybe people only review if they are unhappy? In any case, I would give it a try... prove them wrong! read more

Located near the Port Sidney Marina on Vancouver Island, 10 Acres at the Pier is a great dining alternative for boaters seeking a change from their own galley. THE ROSES: Nice waterfront location with a view and reasonable parking. Large, airy dining space and a very large outdoor seating area to enjoy on nicer days. Efficient and helpful staff, who are happy to accommodate diners with special dietary requirements. Many dishes here stand out, among them the seafood chowder, pizzas, and particularly the Nashville Fried Chicken. Canadian chef cooking like a good 'old Southern boy? Who knew? If you like fried chicken you'll love this dish. THE THORNS: Service pacing can be more than a little irregular. 10AatP has without a doubt the fastest delivery of that all-important 'First Cocktail'. Our server had taken our drink order on their tablet, and our drinks arrived before the server was done talking about the specials (!). Unfortunately this speedy pacing didn't last through the dining experience. We had to wait a considerable amount of time for someone to come and close out our tab at the end of the evening. I think they may have been a little understaffed that night (common in many restaurants these days), and this problem will probably self-correct. THE VERDICT: The sad reality of waterfront dining is that most restaurants coast on their location and steady supply of easily impressed, 'One and Done' tourist customers. Happily, 10 Acres at the Pier is an exception. Their culinary game is up to snuff, and more than good enough to satisfy the discriminating diner. Recommend. read more

My wife and I decided to dine at 10 Acres for our anniversary.The location is perfect for waterfront view dining especially when seated on the patio.There are overhead heaters to take the chill off when dining early evening.We were seated on the patio.First observations: the picnic style tables were scruffy,peeling paint and in need of a coat of paint.Although the service was friendly,some of the servers were wearing old faded jeans and running shoes.Not a professional look when serving locals and tourists in this potentially world class location. We ordered a starter calamari and the Nashville Fried Chicken.The food was delivered in an acceptable amount of time.The Calamari may have been the worst we have ever had. It looked like overcooked granola.It looked and tasted like it had been reheated a few times.Very small sized calamari and a small portion.Cold too. The two shrivelled Nashville Chicken pieces was overcooked or reheated,chewy and bland.There was a small dab of very mashed potatoes,Very small portions for a main course. I am a local and will not be recommending 10 Acres.Suggestions: standardized dress code for employees(no jeans and running shoes),paint and repair the patio tables for a polished and professional look. They're on the pricey side but in my opinion, worth it. I've been to the Victoria location many times and have never been disappointed but this was my first time here. I had a shrimp and crab sandwich on a croissant. Twas superb. Husband had the tacos. He wasn't wild about them and he normally likes 'everything'! We had great service. They have an accompanying bistro next to it. It's is more like a coffee house but they serve some food. I'll be glad when the 'let's use mason jars for glasses' fad is over. We had dinner at 10 Acres at the Pier tonight and experienced the rudest customer treatment by the restaurant management. The previous negative reviews by others are no accident or fluke. The management of the restaurant is extremely condescending and will not correct their own mistakes. Their response to reasonable requests to simply receive what we had ordered was outrageous and insulting. The manager Rona is the problem and perpetrator. She even involved other tables expressing her displeasure for having to bring more of our missing order to our table. Unless you are in need of being berated, abused, and insulted, don't eat there. I have never experienced behavior like this, in a restaurant, in my life time. read more

Most visits are enjoyable. Great views. Lots of seating with patio. Good food. Good drinks. Good music but way too loud sometimes. Loud music should be played in the later evenings when guests are drinking and not wanting to actually hear what the other guests are saying. Good service most of the time except for a bad hostess encounter. Hostess demonstrated her lack of experience in working in a customer service profession by being rude. Is she not aware she is first point of contact and setting the customers/guests up for a great experience or bad experience and how much food and liquor/beverages will be ordered?? Didn't understand why business was charging EHB (employee health benefit) separately. This charge is no longer showing up on bill anymore. Business should have absorbed the costs and recovered costs through their filed taxes with Canada Revenue. Other option-raise menu prices. As a designated driver with 1 guest or more I was shocked when business began charging $1 for a cup of water and lemon to accompany my meals. Many businesses I frequent provide complimentary non-alcoholic beverages like tea, coffee, pop, etc. because I was a designated driver even during these high inflation times. Some former guests have insisted on not returning back to this restaurant or other location based on restaurant's principles, poor business practices and there are other restaurants with similar food quality in Victoria and surrounding areas. As a result, I dine less here now too. There is only so much free time to spend with family and friends in between looking after aging family members, working and running a household. read more

We absolutely loved 10 Acres and only wish we had more time in Sidney to return on this trip. We were a party of six and loved the peach bellinis and Bobby drinks. We LOVED the French Onion Soup and it is enough for a meal. The avocado and shrimp salad was really good. The decor is modern, fresh, comfortable and the property is very clean. The servers were friendly and efficient. We will definitely be back and we're telling everyone to try 10 Acres. It really couldn't have been a better experience. See you next time! read more

10 acres/Sidney Pier location Let me start off by stating that I generally write reviews for stellar service and epic fails. Sadly, this review is for the latter. I'm not really sure what's going on with the service at this establishment. Think twice before eating here. It's Valentine's Day, and I made a reservation at least 2 weeks ago. When we arrived (about 5 minutes late), there was approximately 8 people ahead of us (party of 2) waiting in a line along the entry wall. The hostess apologized stating they got double booked for reservations but that we would all eventually be seated. Approximately 30 minutes later, we were seated at a table. It was now 35-40 minutes past our reservation time. It's LOUD and the chairs aren't very comfortable. Little did I know we would be sitting in them for almost 2 hours. We had chosen our drinks and menu items, and waited, and waited, and waited for someone to take our order. About 20 minutes after we sat down, our server finally came stating that there was some confusion between her and another server - each one thinking the other was looking after us. Sigh... We were off to a great start. And believe me, it does get worse. I ordered the French onion soup (which was tasty) to start and then a couple of steaks for our entrees. At least 20 minutes after placing our order, I had to flag down our server and ask her about my soup. She said something about how she thought she saw our meals waiting and she disappeared. I looked at my husband a little confused as I had said soup, not our meal. Well, she came with my soup! Okay, good. But it was very hot, so I stole some ice from the bottom of my husband's drink glass in an effort to cool it down. I wanted to try and eat this quickly in case our meals came but as I was rushing to eat it, I ended up burning my mouth. Of course. Then 5 minutes after my soup came, our entrees arrived. I don't know how long it takes the average person to eat French onion soup, but I was only 1/3 through my bowl in those 5 minutes. Before the meals were placed on the table, we asked him to take them back to the kitchen to keep them warm as I had just gotten my soup and would like to finish it. Without a word, he (appeared to be the Manager) walked our meals back to the kitchen. Strange that he didn't say anything. Not a word that we recall. I finished the soup and our server took the bowl away. And not a word from her either. She didn't ask how I liked it or anything similar. Didn't ask us if we wanted another drink either. Basic restaurant customer service. I watched as she disappeared with the dirty bowl and then reappeared without our meals - just standing around. It took another 5-10 minutes for someone else to actually bring us our entrees back. We both ordered the striploin steaks; 1-7oz medium well and 1-14 oz medium. My smaller steak was tough and a little undercooked and my husband's was tender but overcooked. Almost like we had different cuts of meat. I gave him my undercooked meat while he cut off his overcooked meat and we switched. Not an ideal way to enjoy $35 and $50 steak dinners. And by the way, we ordered the "add-on" onion rings which leads the patron to believe you get them AS WELL AS the frites, but you don't. This is NOT an ADD-ON it is an UPGRADE. 10 ACRES, THIS WORDING IS DECEPTIVE AND SHOULD BE FIXED!!! Alas, I digress... but again, not one word from our server or anyone about 'how is your meal so far'? And not a peep when the plates were taken away. By this time, the restaurant was becoming quieter as it was around 8:30pm. Our server didn't ask us if we wanted any dessert, but came with the bill and apologized for the mix-ups right off the bat. Odd, but appreciated. We felt completely ignored the whole time we were there. Like we had taken some sort of invisible pill. I wouldn't mind that superpower but going out to dinner isn't where I would use it! I did ask for some form of compensation and some was granted by the Mgr. To be fair, everyone has a bad day - and it WAS busy. However, I had read some poor reviews of this restaurant prior to booking the reservation, but thought that those reviewers had exaggerated. Perhaps they were, but I can tell you that there is no exaggeration here in this review. I have never been a server but I have been in retail for over 35 years. I know customer service. Good, bad and indifferent. If you have read the entire review I think you will agree that the service was exceptionally slow - is this a kitchen staffing issue? Mgmt? Owner? Poor hiring choices? NO hiring choices?? Not sure, but this experience was a gong show from the moment we stepped in the door. My husband asked me on the way home if I felt this was the worst service we had ever received in our 30 years together. Mmmm, if not the worst, then a close second. Yikes. Not sure how they're staying in business. It is safe to say, that we will never go back. It's really too bad, because this is a great location. read more

Wish I had read this before. It's very convenient if you are staying at the hotel. Service is good in my experience. Ambiance, great outdoor seating. Food & drink... 3/10 do not recommend. I just had the worst Bloody Mary of my life. Not even the zest of a V8. No olives. Just cheap tomato juice and maybe some vodka. I had the happy hour ahi. About 5 thin medallions. Barely pink. Like... think roast beef after a couple days. Complete with green rainbow sheen. I ate two medallions and thought better of it. It was flavorless anyway and I don't want to get sick. Ordered some pork tacos. Also from the happy hour menu. They were fine. Store bought guacamole and tasteless toppings. I swear.... The water smelled like fish. Total $50 for not even a "meh" meal and all from the happy hour menu. I haven't found Sidney to have amazing food but this was just bad. Highly recommend you avoid it. read more

The Pork Chop dish is sinfully good. We live in the area and really want to love this place but have been disappointed all 3x. This last was the worst, sadly. My glass of wine was corked. The food took forever to come out. Calamari appy was delicious! For the main, my medium rare steak was well done. Was told a discount would be applied to the bill. It wasn't. The potatoes weren't cooked. Friend had the falafel salad and they had taken one falafel and sliced it into four and then fried it. The slices were more like pucks. Server was very nice but waters not refilled, appy dishes not cleared before mains arrived, had to ask to see the dessert menu, get cheque, etc. In the age of being short staffed, inexperienced kitchen staff, etc, we are overwhelmingly understanding and gave it 3 chances over the past year. Like I said, we really wanted to love it. Sadly won't be back. read more

Good service is what is getting this up to 3 stars. I had Green Thai Curry and I will say my food was tasty and sized equal to the cost. My friend had just S&P Wings but I must say the price was a little high but not horrendous. My other friend had the Cannelloni which I swear they served an appetizer instead of a full dinner. Two small pieces, a bit of sauce, no sides, no garlic bread, complete disappointment. We pointed it out that it was ridiculously undersized. Someone else came and checked because of our complaint. Then we were told that they would speak to the manager to see what could be done. Apparently all that could be done was for the wait staff to make excuses. No apology. No discount. We have supported and enjoyed this place as a group of 10 pensioners only to find out its gone. We as a group that live in Sidney have decided to find another place to go. We were so excited for 10 Acres to come to Sidney. Honestly! I waited until after a few visits as I really wanted to give this place a chance.. Unfortunately we have been disappointed each time. The service is usually great, but it's the food which should be the star of any restaurant. People don't mind paying higher prices if the quality is good. Add $3 for a piece of baguette with your steamed mussels and clams which is $23? Just make the price $26. Most people want bread with the meal. Charging $3 for the bread that usually comes with this dish is weird. Flavour and portion size needs improvement on most dishes. Check out Surly Mermaid for example, their portions are spot on. For a restaurant that's backed by a farm, it's surprising when some of the food doesn't come looking fresh. If it takes making the menu smaller so the quality can improve, maybe that's what needs to happen. You could be so much more popular, there's a lot of potential. I say again, people don't mind paying more if it's worth it! Not if it's going to be sub par. Good place to come for drinks, I mean they are pricey, but they are everywhere these days. I'm still giving 3 stars. Because I feel the ambience, the view, and staff are great. The food needs work. read more

The manager at the restaurant on June 7, 2022 was horrible. At the time of ordering our food, we specifically asked the waitress if the pepperoni on the pizza is spicy. The answer we got was no. It turns out that the pepperoni was still too spicy for our children so we let the waitress know. She apologized right away and offered to remake another one with just the pizza sauce. On our bill, we were charged with two pizzas. When we questioned it, the manager said since we kept both pizzas, we needed to pay for it. We explained that we were never told that we would be charged for a second pizza since the first one was a mistake on their part. The manager then said, "if you return a car in a dealership, you wouldn't keep both cars and only pay for one". "I could take care of the pizza but it is unfair" The waitress later on came to us and apologized. She acknowledged that it was her mistake in the first place so she had asked the manager to take the 2nd pizza off the bill. (we would still pay for the one we ordered) They were going to throw away the first pizza anyways so she offered for us to keep it so it doesn't go to waste. We will NEVER return to this restaurant with a manager that treats its customers like scammers over one pizza. Our bill was close to $200. read more

Where to begin. I've frequented this establishment 3 times now. I can tell you the food quality is exceptional overpriced but exceptionally good quality..... But that's where the love ends. Each time we've been in the service has been utterly deplorable. I honestly thought it was a fluke but now I've gone three times and it's just plain bad In every way. The manager is younger and clearly In a bit over his head. He does try to help but is not much better than the service staff. This evening we were seated and after sitting at the table for 20 minutes I finally asked the manager to help us. Apparently our server ( Monique I'm told) just didn't care to handle another table. When I sat and sat and sat - finally I asked another server who curtly told me "you're not my table" to which I'd explain I don't even know who our server is because they never once came to our table. I then Sat and sat and sat after finishing the meal the manager ordered for us, waiting for the bill. Finally after literally being ignored by everyone, I had to make a scene just to get someone to come allow us the privilege of paying our check. This is the absolute last time I'll patronize this restaurant here or in Victoria. There are so many other great options in the area - all of which the staff are happy to have you. A group of us ladies came to Sidney for a weekend to discover this little seaside town and made reservations at 10 Acre on the Pier. We were greeted warmly and our server was very charismatic and helpful. I ordered the Empress lavender G&T and all I could say is "I'll take another!" From the first sip I was in love. Masterfully made and goes down very easy. My friend with the Rhubarb Sour was equally in love with her choice. Three of us had the shrimp salad and it's was extraordinary. We will certainly be back and in the meantime, I will do my best to replicate those amazing lavender G&T's! Thanks to all the staff who made our night to much fun. read more
