Everyone is extremely kind and helpful and service is better than the Langham without attitude. Also much more affordable and was conveniently located across from the Queen Elizabeth Stadium. Beds are nice and firm. Down side is breakfast quality is low. read more

We booked a 5 night stay at Dorsett Wanchai during our recent trip to HK but sadly the whole experience was a letdown. The first thing to be aware of is that one side of the hotel faces the cemetery, so if you didn't book a Causeway Bay or racetrack view room, then you'll likely have a room that overlooks the cemetery. We were well aware of this from our research prior to booking, but it didn't bother us much so we decided to stick with the cemetery view and pay a little extra for the room with clear windows (as opposed to frosted windows which is a separate booking) to let more light in, and so we could look outside and feel less cooped up. However, when we got to our room, the windows were boarded up with textured glass panels and you could not see outside at all. We ended up going back down to the front desk to point out that this is not what we booked.  In my opinion, there was more back and forth between the front desk and the manager than there should have been. They kept stating that the room was correct and that the clear windows were just behind the paneling...and that most people just keep it closed because of the cemetery. We told them the paneling wasn't disclosed in the booking and we wanted to be able to look out the window. So the manager came up with us and tried to remove the paneling, but was only able to partially remove one of them. He told us they were fully booked out for the night but he will see what he can do. He later called to offer us complimentary breakfast for the stay as compensation for the incorrect room we got, but we declined as we were only in HK for a few days and wanted to get out and experience local cuisine. Not to mention, we didn't want to continue staying in a room where we couldn't look outside...so I asked again to be moved to a different room. After another call he informed us he could move us to a clear windowed room the following night, but since they were full for the night we'd have to stick it out one night which we agreed to.  We were told our luggage would be moved to the new room when ready, however instead we had to move everything ourselves. We first repacked everything, went down to return our keys when we were told to move our luggage to the new room, so we had to go back up, grab all the luggage, go back downstairs, return the old key and grab the new ones, and go all the way back up with our bulky luggages. We didn't get any compensation for the inconvenience as well as the fact that we were not provided the correct room type on our first night.  On top of all this, the carpets in the original room looked super dirty and stained. The shower door was also not flush with the rest of the glass..there was a gap towards the bottom which meant a ton of water leaked out onto the bathroom floor when we showered. We tried to soak it up with towels but there was just too much water, and it ended up tracking out into the entryway where I slipped and could've injured myself. Luckily, the carpet in our new room was much better, and the shower did not leak although it did have some problems with draining. Our newer room also felt more spacious as they made better use of the available space in terms of room design. Elevators were extremely slow and did not fit many people. Plan extra time when leaving your room in the morning, because some days we had to let multiple full elevators go by before we could fit in one. Even just waiting for one elevator sometimes took a few minutes. Lots of people checking out the hotel breakfast on the 2nd floor too in the mornings.  Our friends' room got a vending machine voucher for skipping room cleaning, but not sure why this wasn't offered to us as we did not have our room cleaned for our entire 5 night stay.  One plus was that flavored water and candy were available in the lobby afternoon which was a cute little perk. Location-wise, it's also  pretty close to a number of bus stops but you'll likely have to do a few bus/subway transfers if you're looking to venture out beyond Wan Chai.  Communal laundry is available and the dryer was actually powerful. You can only pay with Octopus card or WeChat pay though, and there are only 2 washers and 2 dryers.  Overall, it seems like there's a lot of inconsistencies between the cleanliness of their rooms and not sure how they can advertise clear windows when they're boarded up. Due to our experience staying here I would look elsewhere the next time I'm in HK. read more

First & foremost, if you're either superstitious OR you just want the view...I strongly recommend the Intercontinenting premier Causeway Bay City view room. It has a great view & does not face the cemetery. I got to enjoy the passing cars and a glimpse of the racetrack. The 2 rooms are adjourning and only open from the inside, so you can still share but also know the door won't open unexpectedly from the other side. The Hubs and I got a queen and my boys got 2 twins in their room. We both got a desk, a side table, mini fridge, tea pot, and TV. No microwave. Staff was nice and you can leave the door hanger out on days you want the room cleaned. For the most part we only did it every 3 days to get fresh towels. The carpet was clean as were our rooms. I had no qualms walking barefoot or in the complimentary disposable slippers. Water pressure was great and the temperature was instantly however you wanted it. I like mine warm, the Hubs likes his scorching. Biggest gripe was the bathroom mirror had warm lighting so I ended up testing every part of the room for my makeup application. Some days I literally had a no make-up look and other days I felt drag. There are mirrors everywhere, find what works for you! I curled my hair to the mirror around the tv, eyeliner was applied to the bathroom wall mirror and makeup applied to the headboard detailing with the drapes open. All in all solid 4.5 star stay. $349 USD daily with a 8 day stay; could be higher because I came over Christmas & NYE but the rooms were huge by HK standards. Would definitely recommend & come back. Central (for my family) to everything we wanted to go to within Hong Kong. Thanks for sending 2024 off with a bang & 2 thumbs up! read more

Billed as a budget hotel, the Dorsett Wanchai delivers on that reputation with great service and a lot of family-friendly room for the price. We booked two sets of interconnecting rooms, which we did not find to be that common in HK. For just a bit more (maybe 10-15%) than a single room at a non-chain hotel, the Dorsett offered an interconnecting, which is 1 room with a queen bed and another room with 2 twin beds. The door separating the rooms is unlocked and opened, essentially using two rooms to make one. This offers a HK-huge amount of space for the price. Highly recommend for families. Amenities also include a shuttle bus going to Central regularly, helpful staff, clean rooms, and Santa was giving out gifts to kids on Christmas. The only downside is the location in Wan Chai is not near a lot of restaurants or attractions so you'll probably be walking to eat and crossing the street to hop on the ding ding tram to get anywhere. read more

Just checked in last night, very friendly service at the front desk. The room is beautiful and spacious by Asians standards. More to come by the end of the week when I leave. Update: Spent a week at this great hotel. Couldn't have asked for better service or room. Times square a walk away, tram across the street that takes you everywhere, and shuttle buses. Hi speed internet was a requirement for my stay since work was part of my visit. They have excellent internet. Air conditioning was fabulous, bath was nice and hot like I like it, with strong water pressure to get through my thick, curly hair. Staff was friendly, smiles always, and eager to help. I stayed at this hotel for one week back in March. The place is so tiny that I felt claustrophobic. Hong Kong is limited in space. .. I understand, but the stained glass windows to keep you out of the view of the cemetery doesn't help. Location: you'd have to walk 15 minutes to get anywhere such as Times Square and the MTR, but to be fair, the hotel offers shuttle service to those areas. Staff: front desk staff were friendly and professional. The housekeeping went into our rooms and did cleaning when we clearly had DO NOT DISTURB sign hanging from the door. I was fearful we had valuable items stolen, but fortunately nothing went missing. The room: There's a bed and literally 2 feet to the desk, bathroom, window, and closet. The room smelled funny and was located in an odd corner. Their bathrooms are updated and clean. I could deal with the cramped space, but see what we found that was beyond unacceptable: Under the bed sheet and on the mattress cover was a huge, dried, yellow URINE stain, smack dab in the middle. It has obviously been there for a very long time. Disgusting. After complaining, a front staff came to confirm the problem. She seemed unapologetic and not at all surprised, but she did have all the bedding changed for us. Horrible experience. read more

After a tough day of travel, the Dorsett was exactly what we needed. The staff was very helpful and friendly. No language barrier whatsoever. We upgrade to a suite, which is about the size of a decent American normal room. The room has great WiFi and they give you a smart phone to use while you stay there. This gives you a 4G WiFi hotspot anywhere in the city. That's a nice plus. Do bring a portable charger though. Using the hotspot drains the phone fairly quick. Complimentary water, tea, and coffee and power adapters in the room are a nice touch. read more

The Dorsett Wan Chai (formerly the Cosmopolitan) was our home away from home while we were in Hong Kong. Overall I was pretty satisfied with our stay. The hotel is located across the road from the Hong Kong horse raceway. The Wan Chai MTR station is quite ways away (perhaps a 30 minute walk). However there are other transportation options. The hotel has a shuttle that takes guests to several Hong Kong drop off points (including the Admiralty and Central MTR stations). There is also a tram ("ding ding") stop across the street from the hotel, which was convenient to take on going to places (but not for coming back since it is one way). We ended taking the ding ding out in the morning, and taking a taxi. The room we had was for three persons and had three single beds. The room was rather small, but that was fine since we weren't here to stay in our room all day. The beds were comfy! The room offers free wifi, but only for one device per day. You can get around this by using the free smartphone provided as a hot spot. The smartphone was probably the best benefit to staying at this hotel because we could take it with us, and use to make local calls and have wifi access. However, we understand that many HK hotels offer this as an incentive to stay at their locations. The hotel also has a restaurant. It is okay (we had a late dinner there our first night after getting in). I would recommend checking out the HK dining scene (versus eating at the hotel). The price was not too bad for 7 nights. It was about $186 per night. We booked through hotels.com I would stay here again, but I will likely stay at more of a chain hotel next time (like the Marriott, at which I have gold status). read more

Spent seven nights here on a family holiday. Really friendly staff and good facilities. Whilst we didn't include breakfast in our booking, we were offered a 50% discount and ended-up eating here daily. Really good variety: cooked, continental, egg chef, cereal, fruit, local. The rooms are small by western standards, so be prepared to live out of suitcases. Aircon and Wifi are first rate and all rooms come with a smartphone, offering free calls and a Wifi hotspot wherever you go. Location is absolutely key if you want a fabulous vacation. That said, I knew we needed to stay in either Central, Wan Chai, or Causeway Bay to reap the awesome city life that is Hong Kong. Dorsett is located in Wan Chai and is the cheapest amongst the 4-star hotel options, hence we chose it. The actual location of the hotel is not spectacular by any means, it's located on a relatively outskirt-ish area with no shops around & with pedestrian fences all around. Luckily, HK is a very walkable city, so if you have no problem with walking 10-15 minutes, you can get to Causeway Bay or downtown Wan Chai. The rooms were clean, albeit very tiny as expected. All fine there. I liked the provided "Handy" phones, it is indeed very handy & there is no need for prepaid sim cards and nonsense. The phone reception was spotty at times, but the hotel staff was able to semi-fix it relatively quick. One complaint though, the staff is very quick to dismiss the phone's issue when I initially called the front desk, seemingly not wanting to deal with the issue by passing the blame on the phone carrier. I affirmed her that it does not matter whose fault it is, & in the eyes of the customer it will ultimately be in the hotels detriment if it isn't resolved - she quickly jumped on the problem shortly after. The bar in the lobby is great for those waiting for their rooms. In summary, a very affordable hotel located in Wan Chai but not in the best location, about 10-15 minute walk to the more central/downtown areas. I would stay again for the right price. read more

Although you won't find the largest rooms in the world , they are surprisingly cozy and well-furnished. Upgrading to a "deluxe" room gets you some extra storage space, but more usefully includes a fold down ironing board. You'd think the soul-crushing humidity would make ironing redundant, but as my friend pointed out: that's not it works; that's not how any of this works. (Fun tip regarding space in HK: Hong Kong has more than twice the pop. density per square mile compared to NYC when accounting for water & undeveloped areas.) The only free wifi exists down in the lobby. As such you will find a lot of other travelers down there huddled around phones and iPads as if they were life-giving fire. So while there isn't free wifi in your room, there is one thing that more than makes up for it: every room gets a free mobile phone and hotspot w/ unlimited 3G data to take around the city with them. Key here is the hotspot feature which gives our iPhones connectivity even while underground on the MTR. Location-wise, you're a bit off the beaten path, an easy 10+ min walk to Hennessy Rd. All things equal, that isn't a big deal, but when you're 7 days into a trip that is 97% walking and you have a minor subungual hematoma, it gets old. We never ever feel bad about throwing some money at the taxi man; they have kids to feed too. Cosmopolitan strikes a great balance between semi-(in)convenience, amenities and cost while looking like an IKEA showroom. Did I mention there's a horse statuette outside the door to each room in a not-so-subtle nod to the HK Jockey Club across the street? Don't try to take it with you; the staff was surprisingly upset by this. read more

Like a rock star I've been busy on the road... Without the rock, without a private tour bus, without a band, without the groupies, without the drugs, and many times without google, IG, FB, or even Yelp. Things I do have with me is my adventurous heart, friends in nearly every major city in the world, trusty Northface backpack, and my beloved 3x2 Samsonite who bear the scars of a soldier... And at least here in Hong Kong, I have the luxury of IG FB and Yelp. First stop in HK early in the humid 90 degree AMs was my hotel the Cosmopolitan. Towering at the major corner of Queens Road East in Wanchai district, a road famous from an old song during my parents generation. (I wonder if any of you can remember what that song was... If you can go ahead and name that song for a bonus. Drinks on me if you can.) It sits next to a cemetery (I'm sure a few of you would like to know that before booking) across from the old derby race track and just a few mins walk from the ever busy shopping area Times Square. There are plenty of bars and restaurants around which is always nice. However, in mid summer's heat, I wouldn't consider it the most convenient location. A few mins walk could mean another shirt another shower. Words of the wise... If you are going to be in HK during the summer, find a hotel closer to the MTR subway station. You'll thank me for that later. I promise. Service so far since I arrived has been friendly. The front desk, bell boys, and even the old security guard warmly greeted me and accommodated my needs. Check-in was suppose to be at 2pm. Without any extra fees, the young gentleman at the front got me into my room at 9am once their first room was cleaned and ready to go. I should really up their rating to 4.5 for that. That's a huge plus in my books. Don't be fooled by the fisheye pictures posted by the hotel. The rooms are much smaller than it looks but nonetheless clean n comfy. I was reluctant to book this because many reviews on trip advisor and Expedia claimed it to be old and scrappy. I assure you that's NOT the case. I wish they had shower curtains or a sliding door though. Instead, there is a glass window that partially covers. The result is a wet floor after every shower. "Get to work with those towels n wipe it down good son befoe you done slip n hurt yaself. Yea... Wipe it down real good son. There ya go." WiFi has been great to me here unlike the spotty WiFi I had at every hotel throughout my stay in China all last month. If there was a god, he/she really came through big time for me here. Can't live without a healthy spotify and emails for too long. For the price I paid, I'd probably stay here again if I wanted to be safe. I paid extra for the room w a queen size bed. Booked last minute the day before with taxes and fees included which came out to be about 120 USD a night. You might be able to get it cheaper if you book in advance. Get in here. Get settled. Get goin on your adventure. There's plenty to offer in this one little city. I wouldn't waste much time worried about a hotel when this city barely sleeps. read more

Pleasantly surprised by this hotel! It was advertised as newly renovated room and that was exactly what I got. I have stayed here twice now. Room is slightly on the smaller side but i expect that from Hong Kong. If you upgrade to superior room, then it's normal sized. Location could be slightly better, but they have a free shuttle going to Causeway Bay MTR. There isn't many amenities around. Room design is nice. Neutral color, neutral carpet, none of those tacky bright colors. Big window even in the smallest room. Price is super cheap though! read more

Modern, clean and well furnished. Possibly one of few hotels on the Island with roomier rooms. Prices are reasonable even for weekends. Free wifi in the lobby. Those are the upsides. Downside is remoteness from commercial activity: Causeway Bay Time Square is a 15 minute, one underpass and 4 (major) cross walks away, though the hotel does offer shuttle service several times an hour. Also, the property is adjacent to a cemetery but frosted glass does spare guests from that view. read more

Room looked nice upon initial entry, then I noticed how dirty the carpet was and was too grossed out to walk barefoot in the room. There was also a leak somewhere because the carpet by the one and only nightstand was soaked (only one side of the bed had a nightstand and light, the tv was also very off center and was on that side of the bed across the room as well). Couldn't see where it was coming from. My room was on the 11th floor, tucked away between the main elevators and the service elevator. Not sure what was directly above me, but it was super loud at all times of the day. The window didn't open and was frosted. I'm pretty sure it faced the cemetery next door. There was a fridge, but no microwave. There was also a courtesy cell phone you could use and take with you. I found it useful to use it for maps and directions, while saving battery power on my own phone. This place is in walking distance of food and shops, and is conveniently located near a bus stop. There's also a free shuttle from the hotel to various places. read more

Enjoyed this hotel and its views. A quick walk away to Times Square and am easy cab ride to the Park Tram. Was really helpful that they provide airport pickup and drop offs. The room was nice and clean and the service was great! Found out after that they host a wine happy hour on Fridays so make sure to check that out. read more

Pro: Commie phone for mobile Wifi, free shuttles, clean rooms, free shuttle service. Con: Unacceptable front desk behavior, lying about promotions, construction hell, location to MTR. Possible government oversight with commie phone. This should of been a 5 stars review, but the front deck check in manager, Joe, whom I will be contacting the office about later, completely screwed up our experience with our 6 nights stay. 1. Got in at 1 pm, small small lobby from the ground floor construction. That is fine by me, construction happens. 2. Tried to check in - Joe, the first desk mangers, denied our party room due to room capacity, it was suppose to be 3 people, not 2. Fine, it's their rules, I called Hotel.com since I am a gold member and usually things can be worked out. 3. One and half hours went by, Joe flat out refuse to change the room without adding close $60 dollars a night and start telling us the larger rooms have faster internet and is bigger. Also telling us that we can't get our money anyways. This is while another manger next to me just give a father with two kids free upgrade to family suite because there are tons of room in the hotel right now. The money isn't the issue, it's the fact the man didn't care, not after two called from Hotel.com to make the change or we tried to make things work with options. 4. Paid for the upgrade, got our keys. To find out the ground floor lifts are completely down. All guest needs to haul them by hand to 1st floor. 5. The faster internet speed that Joe promised as a room addition as bait was all included with online orders, so he lied about that. As far as the 300 mbps, the ISP can barely keep a single Microsoft RDP going, so much for that also. The room was nice, hot water and clean towels. Yes, the room is small, but it works. If you need an iron, beg for one downstairs. The commie phone is the only reason this place got higher than a 1 star. The 3G connection is freakishly fast, even in MTR. Our party used it thru out Disneyland, IFC, Convention Center, and Kowloon - always reliable, just keep it charged with a battery pack, the mobile hotspot will drain pretty quickly. The location of the hotel is weird, it's shuttle service is pretty good and right on the trolley service. But the 15 minutes walk to Causeway Bay or Wai Chan MTR does get old. Taxi service doesn't take kindly to English or Mandarin, so keep that in mind trying to taxi back. There are barely any food around the hotel, so try not come back hungry. Also, family with little kids, please stay away, crossing the street is an accident waiting to happen with the subway steps. Go to a Conrad, they will treat you like a normal human being, at least one that expects than the citizens of Hong Kong. read more

I think this hotel turned out to be pretty good, especially once you consider the price. I think it was pretty reasonable. The key complaint is that there is little that one could walk to from the hotel which is true. The second problem is that the hotel is in Wan Chai which makes everyone think that you're staying a in a red light district, but the area around the hotel did not show any evidence of this. I arrived late after an office Christmas party so I was given an upgrade to a double room. As advertised, the hotel was newly renovated, and quite modern. The beds were comfortable and the wi fi for once device was free and easy to access. I found the staff to be courteous and helpful. When I return to Hong Kong I would like to explore some different neighborhoods but the Dorsett would definitely remain on my list of good places to stay. read more

This hotel exceeded my expectations. Its location isn't the best, but it's adjacent to the tramway, major bus lines (where in Hong Kong isn't) and the hotel-provided free shuttle buses made getting to MTR reasonably convenient. It's an easy walk to the Causeway Bay shopping area. The hotel provided a "Handy" cell phone with free calling back to the U.S., which was super-convenient. It appeared to me that there was a charge for the high-speed Internet in the rooms, but it was complimentary in the lobby area. However, the "Handy" can act as a WiFi hotspot and data was free so I used it for Internet and it suited my needs since I wasn't there to work or surf the net. We didn't eat at the restaurant. Service was efficient and friendly. The room was small as to be expected but comfortable and clean. Our window was frosted so it provided light but no view, but we were on a tour package so that's also to be expected. I give the hotel four stars but the "Handy" gets an extra star. read more
