Am I a fan of this place? Yeah, I am. What's so especial about it, it just looks like another Chinese restaurant like many others in Wan Chai..? Yeah, true, but this one has ended up being my preferred one, when I had a craving for Chinese food (which doesn't happen very often by the way...). So why...? To start with, the service is great.
The guy who manages the place has always welcomed my friends and I with a smile. Him and the rest of the staff are very friendly - after a few times there, they knew our preferences in the menu and the seating space, so we ended up sitting at the same central table every time. One other thing that makes a whole lot different the service is that he speaks English - he would explain the dishes to you and give you some advice on new things to try. I'm not an adventurer with meat (especially offal) but I have tried some seafood and fish at his suggestions. He's hit the mark a few times and the steamed squid with vegetables has become my regular. It's around 70HKD and comes with a ton (!) of broccoli and squid. I love seafood and I have cringe at the look of some seafood dishes in restaurants where you have to stir the ingredients to see any trace of it. The portions here are amazing, as I could also experience with my omelette...there was food for two at least. My friends have gone for noodles most of the time and their plates have always ended up empty. Also, their big bottles of beer are very cheap.
The decoration has nothing remarkable to say, but that everything looks very clean. I love the fact that their kitchen is partially opened: it's also clean and tidy, which says a lot.
It's difficult for a Chinese restaurant to differentiate itself from the high competition anywhere in Hong Kong, but Aberdeen stands out for me for its quick service, cheap prices, good food and, you guessed it, excellent service. read more
