The tasty kalbi (not the best quality) arrived on a sizzling platter along with some Korean mochi sticks (tteokbokki) that weren't spicy! Yay! They had a nice crisp outer layer from the caramelization of the teriyaki sauce. The inside of the tteokbokki was soft and comfortingly chewy. Service was efficient. We ordered and paid at the counter. Our food was brought to us. There wasn't much interaction because of the language barrier. The shop was clean and bright with lime green chairs and accaccents. We appreciated the air-conditioning and seat-yourself, casual style. No reservation needed!

Located on Ashley Road where there are many other restaurants as well this cozy place just simply stood out especially since menu items here are below $98HK and though the Kalbi ribs sounds like the protein packed nutritious I'm craving it was the Jap Chae which was made to order and served hot with carrots, spinach, beef and scrambled eggs at $44HK which is about $6.20 is the portion is small but was just the right size the keep me fueled to explore. This modest shop has a decent amount of seating and you need to order at the counter which the staff will bring out to your table which is nice and clean and the much needed break in this lovely air conditioned restaurant that what a lucky discovery. I finally decided on the pan fried dumplings (mandu) and the jap chae noodles (glass noodles with veggies). After waiting a few minutes, my take away bag was presented. The noodles 50hkd and dumplings 60 and no service charge, 110hkd for both. Although I typically think of dumplings as a side (making 110 a lot for both), after taking 1 bite of each I would definitely do this same order again and again. The dumplings were light and fluffy (compared to typical HK dumplings that have a tough exterior when fried) and full of deliciousness on the inside. I though a sauce would have been included for this but had some soy sauce in the office. The jap char noodles were not overly greasy and also had really good flavor as I inhaled them down. The portions were good, but definitely needed both to satisfy a late lunch. Next time I'll try one of the lunch sets which includes a few smaller pointed items.

We began the main part of the meal with one portion of the Sliced Beef Chuck Flap, two of the Marinated Top-Grade Short Ribs, and a basket of lettuce to accompany them. A server usually comes by to prepare the barbecue dishes, but it was apparent that the restaurant was quite understaffed, strangely enough on a Friday night, so we cooked them ourselves. That being said, the quality of the beef was sick, being perfectly tender with a tang of sweetness. Its marinade made it sweet enough so that it would've tasted great without any additional flavoring, but also mild enough so that it got even better with a dipping sauce of sesame oil and fine sea salt. The Seafood Pancake was just the right amount of crispy with plenty of seafood per slice, and it came with a nicely curated soy sauce with scallions, sesame seeds, and fresh chili slices. When it came time for the Seafood Noodles Hot Pot, however, it took quite a while to get someone to come and cook it (they got distracted multiple times), and they forgot to return when it was finished. Originally inspired by the Korean dish Bibimbap, these rolls are best described as half sushi/half burrito with a traditional Korean twist. Sounds wild, I know. K-Roll now offer a great range of rolls including chicken, beef, shrimp & tofu, each featuring a selection of sauces to tailor each roll to your taste. I can't rave about this place enough & now with multiple locations throughout Hong Kong, K-Roll makes for a super convenient option for lunch on the run. I'm hungry just thinking about it!

Over here you can order bite-sized kimbap rolls (basically a sushi roll without the raw fish), Korean burritos. They look a lot like Japanese rolls at first glance but the ingredients are mainly cooked like rice, tempura shrimp, fried dumpling skin, veggies, etc. They certainly bring out the Korean flavor with the special Korean sauce as well. To me, this place not only offers delicious food but all the food are very colourful and pleasing to the eyes. I understand that it is also very packed during lunch hour but guess what? At least you are waiting for your orders at a place with air conditioning.
