FAST and cheap ! great for dinner or late night gatherings for some food and beer. What makes this place different from most restaurants is their kitchen is OUTSIDE. When you are near by, you WILL hear the ROARING flame of the fire from the individual wok areas they have. My family in HK had brought us here for dinner during our visit in April 2016. We had just came here just early enough before the rush. We got a table almost instantly. Yes this place still has lots of outdoor seating but what surprised me is how brightly lit and clean the interior areas were as well. Whats funny is ive ate next door before this place existed 10 years ago. XD Same concept place. You can go around and view the chef's working their magic with the wok on the volcano of a stove. Some will even particularly give you some extra "show". It makes them happy some people are still interested. We had ordered a few things. honey sauce/glazed pork chops, deep fried pig intestine, stuffed fried tofu and eggplants, steamed garlic shrimp, deep fried milk fish, malaysia style on choy, and salted egg & garlic yin choy. To my surprise though not too surprised... my favs were (in no particular order) the deep fried milk fish, deep fried pig intestine, and steamed garlic shrimp. Pork chops. Nothing too special. sweet savoryish sour sauce with pork chop. Deep fried pork intestine - not special but something i havent had in a long time so it was nice and tasty XD Fried stuffed eggplant and tofu - nothing too special, similar to what i make at home too. Salted egg with garlic yin choy - not so common vegetable in the state but still available. this particular one had red leaves too. ive only seen the green leaved version. Simple dish in a broth. Nice and light Malaysia style on-choy - to be honest, not sure what the sauce is. But ive noticed the malaysia style tends to have dried baby shrimp and chili. Lol Steamed garlic shrimp - simple. TONS of garlic. though i expected the shrimp to be bigger in comparison to the picture that was on the wall. but omg so tasty. THAT GARLIC *drools* om nom nom hahaha Deep fried milk fish - recommendation from my uncle. Ive never had it. Boneless (but as with all fish, id still be careful anyway). Lightly battered. Deep fried. The fish was light. Batter was crispy but light. It was really done well. Definitely a recommendation from me to others. Overall. Great place to eat at. As said, one of the last few left. If you are one who has been raised in the states, you may not like the chairs being plastic stools and you need to clean your own utensils and stuff. This particular location is a lot cleaner than i remember these places to be so im quite surprised. Especially the area it is in. Their order to table times are ridiculous. We had our entire order even faster than sometimes even one dish coming out in the states. Benefits of this style of cooking. SUPER fast. I've been told this place ONLY opens at night but i swear i heard the flame roaring mid-day another day when we were walking around near-by.

Yet, I love A Plus Kitchen for their semi-diverse menu, quality execution, and overall good service. I find myself coming here time and time again with little to no disappointment. English names and Chinese ones almost never correlate in other countries, but I don't find this to be much of an occurrence in HK. A Plus Kitchen is really 讚記 (or Chan Kee) but what's in a name really? An easier moniker for the nearby tourists means there is a likelihood for more businesses. Yet, I don't ever really see many tourists here if at all. If it makes a difference, the menus are in English and Chinese. I do appreciate their breakfast options for being plentiful and affordable, but their dinner hour is where it's at. Unlike a lot of HK cafes out there that only do the usual HK style western breakfast + noodle / rice options for lunch and dinner, APK steps it up with a full fledged menu full of Canto classics like water spinach with chilis and tofu (椒絲腐乳通菜) or white chopped chicken (白切雞). I am usually here for their fish tofu claypot (班腩豆腐煲) and shrimp with egg (蝦仁炒蛋). The dinner set comes with rice and choice of drink, which ranges somewhere between $59-78HKD. The evenings are packed full of people every night. They don't include a service charge in their prices and it is strictly cash only.

It's early for dim sum for us in the States because we usually have dim sum for lunch around 11:30/noon but here, dim sum is great all day long. The place was already packed when I arrived and we had to share tables for a while until the gentleman we were sharing it with was ready to leave. Afterwards, we ordered off the menu, marking what we wanted and waiting for them to steam the items so that they come out fresh! We ordered a ton of dim sum, which is why you always need to go to dim sum with a group of people so that you can have a taste of everything. Of the things we ordered, I loved the chicken feet, the BBQ pork buns, and the fried turnip cakes the most. The chicken feet was extremely flavorful and meaty. The flavor was great and will definitely turn doubters into lovers. The BBQ pork buns were packed with filling. The meat was also not as red as the ones you would find elsewhere which is great cuz I'm pretty sure it's all food coloring anyways. You bite into it and expect a ton of fat but nope, it's all meat. Finally, the turnip cake was lightly fried and and stacked on top of each other. Also packed with turnips so you aren't getting jyped with a flour cake. Comes with some hot sauce to add that punch of flavor but not necessary even for spicy food lovers like me. I always say dim sum in Hong Kong beats dim sum in the States and this proves it. Everything was better IMO. (Except for maybe the Egg Yolk Buns that were supposed to be runny...they came out kind of solid and lacked that oozing filling I was expected) But besides that, the food was great, which makes up for the subpar service. Our empty dim sum dishes were not quickly picked up and they were slow to refill tea but besides that the service was OK. If you are in the area and looking for dim sum, you should drop by. It gets packed in the morning with the elderly getting their breakfast on but if you are willing to share a table, you will get a treat with the dim sum.

Specializing in Dim Sum and Cantonese fare, this place does a fabulous job executing classic dishes with flavor and excellence. Like most things Dim Sum in Hong Kong, ordering here is exclusively a la carte. Their version of char siu bbq pork (叉燒) is among the tastier experiences I've had in Kowloon, for it juicy, nicely charred on the outside, and even has a sweet finish since it's sitting in a bath of juice. Their har gau (蝦餃) may look standard but it's hardly case when one takes a bite: succulent juices remain within a nicely soft, pillow like texture of the dumpling skin, and the natural flavor of the shrimp reigns surpreme. My mouth gets watery just thinking about it. Other standouts include their turnip cake (蘿蔔糕), tofu skin roll (腐皮捲), and a surprisingly very good Teochew dumpling (潮州粉粿). I haven't had too many amazing renditions of the latter, but the impression was too real. Their lotus wrapped glutinous rice (糯米雞) was so stupid good that I was actually sad to know they ran out after 12:30pm. Considering lunch only opened 90 minutes earlier, this means they're either in super high demand or there just aren't enough during lunch hour. Either way, both would certainly apply in this case. Their dinner options are also excellent. To be fair, nothing on the menu constitutes as fancy (despite the aggressive pricing), but trust that almost everything is very good. Their roasted squab (燒乳鴿) had me sucking the bone at some point because the meat was so tender and succulent. I sing high praises for their roasted goose (燒鵝) as well, which doesn't rival the big names on HK island per se, but is still *very* good. Even the simple things like XO rice noodles (XO炒腸粉) or stirfried pea shoots (炒豆苗) with roasted garlic were excellent. Service is impeccable. They're efficient, polite, and extremely courteous. Tea is always refilled without asking and they're quite good about honoring substitutions for specialty dishes. The ambiance is a bit more quiet than I would like, but I like to think everyone is busy eating and has little time for conversation. The only drag? This place is only accessible to members of the Pacific Club and their guests. I am blessed, no doubt. I am hoping to be invited back to Bauhinia one day because good food, great company, and a view are things I can always get behind.

All the dishes tasted just as good as the normal versions, but they cooked them to our specifications. The only dish that is special that I haven't found in any other Chinese restaurant so far is the deep fried Chinese bread buns. They're nice and fluffy on the inside because it is baked with yeast. Located in the heart of Central, it's a convenient place to stop by if you're going to make the trek up or down Mid-Levels. The location is on a very narrow street where both pedestrians and vehicles are allowed, so be cautious. There is a sign indicating dine-in or carryout at the entrance of the cha chaan teng so be sure not to stand in the wrong line. The cafe inside is very small and crowded whether you go for breakfast or lunchtime. The space is very limited and if you consider yourself taller than the average person in Hong Kong, be very careful when moving through to sit or stand as there are various ceiling heights in the old building. Service is alright and efficient as most HK cha chaan tengs are expected to be however, I didn't like the attitude of one of the servers who brought out my table's meal as it was not what was ordered. She questioned our order and it was very clear that no one in my group ordered it, yet she insisted that we did. After a bit of back and forth, she decided to swap out the meal for the one we actually ordered. The food was A-OK, nothing particularly spectacular. The toasted and buttered bun was decent but didn't have enough butter not toasty char. The macaroni noodle soup was on the bland side. The hot dog and eggs were very typical. The best thing we had were the milk teas. Prices are very normal for Central but would be considered overpriced in other areas of HK. I'm not planning to make a return unless someone requests it specifically or if I only want to grab a milk tea to-go.
