To be fair this is a "Speciality" Restaurant that specialized in Snake Soup Cantonese Style.
Reality: not all Chinese eat snake, it is an acquired taste, and depends how it is done, even if you like the soup, you may not like the stir-fried version, vice versa.
There is always the 2 extreme in this type of restaurants, either you like it or you don't, I guess it just like anything!
In my case, I do enjoy all kinds of thick soup Chinese style, like Beef & Cilantro, Fish Maw & Minced Chicken, Sliced Duck with Mushroom etc.
Snake Soup also has two versions: Potage Style or Light Broth Style, my preference is the former. This restaurant is also famous for their Chinese Sausages and Preserved Meats, since we just had our dinner earlier and just wanted to try their Snake Potage, we ordered a small bowl of Liver Sausage & Pork Sausage on Rice as accompaniment. Both sausages were superb, especially the liver sausage, you can really taste the rich liver marinated in Chinese wine.
I agree with most other reviewers, prices are on the high side, but I see them not only as a speciality restaurant but a tourist attraction as well, so it is understandable that they charge higher then normal, come to think of it, the famous Kau Kee Restaurant in the same district charges HK$188.00 (US$24.00) for a bowl of Beef Brisket Noodle. So is it worth it? I guess, its just subjective and personal taste... read more
