Pan fried beef bun, piping hot juice inside the bun.
Clement C.

I have eaten in Islam Food at this location several times over the years. The pan fried beef bun and the curries are my favorite dishes but the rest I do not care for much. When you bite into the beef bun, the inside is piping hot and juice starts flowing out from it. The texture of the beef patty is similar to a meat ball except it has green in it and the bun is closer to a potsticker than a bread bun. Their curry is the Chinese style which is not hot like the Indian curry nor does it have the coconut milk like those from Southeast Asia, you get a choice of beef or mutton. The curry sauce goes extremely well with rice but I wish they also serve nan or bread with curry but they do not. The restaurant is small, space is tight, seating is uncomfortable and pace is fast. Eat and leave.

Years ago, this was a dirty dive, but they've improved. The place is remodeled, it's bigger, and cleaner. Islam Food serves the best Beef Goulash and Beef Samosas in the world! They also serve a top quality scallion pancake and beef curry. The Beef Goulash is a beef patty inside a pastry outside. The beef is floating in a mouthful of hot beef soup. It is very flavorful, crazy juicy and savory. The beef samosas have a very crispy multilayered outer shell. Yum! The curry beef is not as tender as their curry lamb. Both are very rich, complex, spicy, and strongly flavorful curries. They are not creamy, sweet curries like the Japanese stuff. This is the real deal. The scallion pancakes are perfect for dipping in the curry to eat. It is multilayered in crazy crispy layers. You will dream of this meal for many nights to come and plan your next trip there. The service is average Hong Kong service, quick and brusque. The food is made from scratch to order, so it may take 15 to 20 minutes to prepare. English menu available. Beware of the fake "Islam Food" 50 yards away from this store. Match the photos I took and the address carefully before entering. The fake "Islam Food" is 99% the same in looks as the real deal, but the food is not as good! It is definitely worth going out of your way to eat here. P.S. I got a business card from them, and I just noticed that there's two addresses on the business card, so the 2nd location is not a "fake" Islam Food, but their 2nd location. However, the same admonition applies to avoid the 2nd location on Tak Ku Ling Road because for some reason, the food at the 2nd location doesn't taste as good.

I absolutely loved the beef potstickers and veal goulash here. I can probably eat them every day. Imagine a juicy and plump soup dumpling, now multiply the amount of drool in your mouth by ten. They're THAT good. We also had their curry beef. It was a little too spicy for me but everyone around me loved it. I'm not sure if Islam Food is halal but it seems to be very popular among locals AND tourists. For a good reason. Note: bring lots of napkins. Not only will you need it to wipe your mouth (like most other HK places, they don't provide them) but also to blow your nose after trying the curry.

Beef curry - amazing.... so freaking tasty

I love this place for their fried beef bread. This is an Islamic establishment so the food here is halal. The fried beef bread has a pretty thin outer shell, and the beef inside was so juicy that I really have no idea how they cook it without all the juicy leaking out. Also beware of your 1st bite as the juice inside was pretty hot and can get all over you. The other item we ordered was their curry beef. Amazing fusion flavour, and tender beef brisket - must try.

Must order the beef bun! Lots of juice inside but be careful of your first bite, it might burn your throat!

Hong Kong Cafes with a noodle focus almost always end up being my preferred places to chow down…read more Chui Hing (潮興魚蛋粉) is combines no nonsense service with killer food, along with affordable pricing and 24 hour availability to boot. The pretense is non-existent and locals (including myself!) seem to love it here. So like many noodle spots in HK, this place is fairly small. No big tables for 5+ but quite a few small'ish round tables that are good for solo eats or the invaluable food companion. The aroma coming from the semi-open kitchen should be enough inspiration for folks to know what they want upon arrival, but just in case they have the menus outlined along the wall. An easy way to start? Try a wonton and beef brisket with your choice of noodles. The wontons are somewhat pillowy in texture and full of flavor while the beef brisket is braised well while maintaining a perfectly chewy bite. The noodle variety is good, with egg / rice noodles winning over the crowd though I feel the e-fu noodles take the cake. Lastly, do not sleep on the beef tendon. It's practically butter when done right. Chui Hing does fancy itself as a HK style cafe, so other dishes like congee, fried fish skin, fried rice, may appear on the menu, focus on what to stack in your bowl instead. The staff is really helpful and welcoming.

The prices are also very reasonable. I bought beef ball and wonton, wonton noodle soup. I didn't ask to have the noodles separate, but they still retained a good amount of chew by the time I got back up top the hotel. You can pay a little extra anywhere to ask them pack separate. The wontons are ok, beef balls are good, noodles are good, soup okay. The milk tea wasn't very strong but has a nice authentic back flavor. Everything was ready in under 5 minutes. Very good for takeout!

Their congee is good and bubbling hot. Not the best I've had in Hong Kong but it's super quick and cheap. Their soy bean milk is delicious and homemade with no added preservatives. It's great cold too. Their rice crepes aren't too bad either. I like the sesame and sweet sauce they provide you on your table. Each time I've been here, it's been with my parents so they usually speak to them/my sparse Cantonese had gotten me by, not too sure if they speak too much English here. We were anxious to come back after previously walking away with great bargains from the Ladies' Market. This time we came early at about 1030am. But guess what? Some of the stalls were empty and for some stalls, the vendors had some of their merchandise displayed and were busy still setting up. The vendors were ignoring us. So what did we do? We went looking for food. We clearly had over an hour to kill so we walked along the street looking for a light meal and came across Yong Yuen Noodle House (YYNH). From the outside, this clearly was a small restaurant specializing in Hong Kong style comfort foods of noodles, won tons and beef stew brisket. The leader of the group decided to give this place a try and we hit jackpot. As we sat down, we noticed the chairs were smaller and lower which made it difficult to sit. For me, I almost had a Charlie Horse! After we took our seats I grabbed a menu. Luckily, I am able to read the Chinese menu and decided on the classic bowl of fishcake with look funn noodles. I also noticed seaweed as a side dish which seemed interesting so I added that on. I like restaurants that advertise house made items and in this case, their fish cake. I judge it by the texture, appearance and taste. The fishcake had a firm texture with a good bounce. You could taste the fish (it wasn't fishy at all), white pepper and sesame oil. There was a balance in these flavors which stood out in the bowl. I noticed the look funn noodles were sliced thinner than what I'm used to. I added the seaweed which brought another level of flavor and I enhanced my bowl by adding some red wine vinegar and chili sauce. When I was done polishing my bowl of noodles, I didn't feel stuffed. As a side dish we also had some choy sum with oyster sauce that was good. When in Hong Kong, order a glass of milk tea that is served either hot or cold. It was still warm in mid-November so I asked for the iced version. The milk tea was amazing. It's a far cry from what I drink here at home. The brewed tea is strong and has a great balance with evaporated milk and sweet condensed milk. It was so good that I polished my glass quickly and ordered a second one. Service was standard for a Chinese restaurant. Because we spoke in Cantonese we got exactly what was ordered on a timely basis. Not sure if service would be compromised if you don't speak Chinese. Overall, we walked away very happy because not only did we kill time, we had tasty Hong Kong comfort food that didn't put a dent in our wallets. It was priced reasonably where I definitely would recommend if you're in the area.
