Our group divided across the restaurant for a solid thirty minutes so we could hawk around and scout for a table. The fans distributed across the location made the weather bearable. Plastic chairs, clear plastic table cloth. Definitely wash your dishes once more just to play it safe - Timing: because of the sheer popularity of this place, I was already full by the time they started bringing our 4th and 5th dishes as it took about 30+ minutes for it to come out. As a supposedly world class university, HKU sure doesn't have the best dining options. The canteens…read moreare always crowded around lunch times and the food isn't even that great. One restaurant that isn't terrible is Super Super, a congee and noodle restaurant. I've always been a little thrown off by the name Super Super - the restaurant is called 一粥麵 in Chinese, directly translating to 'one congee noodle', which makes sense because that's what the restaurant serves. But Super Super? My rant aside, Super Super is just like any other restaurant/cafe at HKU around lunchtimes - packed. It's hard to find a seat, and having to wait around for one is normal. Super Super actually has some tables outside the restaurant, so you can choose to dine alfresco if you want (and if there's an available table). The wonton noodles here are pretty standard - not great, but definitely not terrible. It's served piping hot, the soup isn't overly salty (though is a little oily) and the shrimp wontons are nice and tender. I find that the noodles are a little hard though, but my friends insist that they're perfectly fine and that I'm just being picky. I'm not a fan of the fishball noodles here - my first time here, that's what I ordered and I found that the fishballs and the fishcakes tasted weird and kind of stale! I remember finishing all my noodles, but only touching one fishball and one fishcake. The carrot cake here is pretty popular but I don't really like it. It has a very obvious 'this-was-stashed-in-the-freezer-and-microwaved-for-a-minute-and-a-half' taste. It's really starchy in texture and doesn't taste much like carrot cake. Overall, Super Super is not the worst you could have at HKU. The quality of the food is a hit-or-miss, but it's tolerable. The food is all at wallet-friendly prices and it's located conveniently on campus, so that's mainly what keeps me coming back!

Nope. This is No.1!! The calamari is definitely up there too. So fresh and cooked to perfection. We also had the mixed veggie with morning glory, Choi sum, Bitter melon (not really bitter) Gai Lan, mushrooms and others I can't remember. Don't be put off by the cafeteria style layout. The food was fresh and piping hot. I would give this place all the stars in the Northern Hemisphere if I could but five (which is all you can usually see in Hong Kong skies) will have to do. Yum!!

Tsui Wah is one of my favorite go-to restaurants whenever I'm craving both Western and Asian food…read moreat the same time. It's affordable and delicious. Win-win! They have set lunches for approx. $50-60 which comprises of soup, drink, and a main dish. I like their hot milk tea 港式奶茶 as well as their longan red date wolfberry tea. Their baked pork chop rice 焗豬排飯 ($72) is out of this world! Haha, I'm exaggerating. It's one of the best I've tried in HK, seriously. When it first came out, piping hot, I was worried that the pork would be tough and over-cooked. Completely the opposite. It was so tender to bite into, and my taste buds just melted. Combine that with the tomato sauce and baked cheese...mm...tastes like heaven. Tsui Wah's quality of food has always been consistent, at least in my books. The service is, eh, not too bad compared to other cha chaan tengs.

Situated smack dab in the heart of Wanchai at the ritsy Hong Kong Convention Center, this establishment serves top notch high end Cantonese fare directly facing the water and skyline of Tsim Sha Tsui. While their Dim Sum hour is popular for certain reasons (daytime ambiance, quality dishes, etc.), the real time to experience their food is during their sumptuous dinner service. If you are going for Dim Sum, consider doing the Monday-Saturday special, which is $198HKD and unlimited servings. Considering the unique twists on their dishes, this is an excellent deal. Certain dishes to look out for: pan fried truffled scallops (黑松露煎帶子皇), pan fried chicken stuffed glutinous rice (蛋煎糯米雞), crab claw wrapped in watermelon and egg white (西施百花蟹鉗), and the deep fried crab shell stuffed with crab meat (銀絲焗釀蟹蓋). Regarding dinner, everything I've had has been divine. I don't use that word often, but the food certainly merits it all the praise. Michelin nods and Yelp stars don't do the food justice, but never sleep on their constantly changing menu. Most everything is seasonal, but all consideration should be made for any chef specials of the night. Their barbecued suckling pig (鴻運乳豬) is a highlight ($1400HKD whole / $780 half) and is perfectly crispy throughout. This is beyond the tasty siu yuk (燒肉) of the street, this is heavenly and is loaded with flavor. No condiments are necessary (though they provide plenty), this can be easily enjoyed on its own. The same can be said for the roasted goose (潮蓮燒鵝) which has similar vibes for tender meat and crispy skin, which is $500HKD for an entire goose. Their version of crispy pork belly (明爐燒腩肉) is beyond wonderful at $158HKD a plate, but as always, I wish there was more. I have always made it a point to eat shrimp and scrambled egg (蝦仁炒蛋), but their version is shrimpless and instead has scallops and black truffle (黑松露帶子炒滑蛋 - $188HKD). It is simply next level to the point where I still think about how wonderful this dish was. The same goes for their poached milk lobster and egg white (龍蝦炒大良牛乳 - $480HKD) and their "Imperial" bird's nest soup with egg whites and crab meats (芙蓉蟹肉官燕-$438HKD) might be the best I've ever had. Their crispy fried chicken (炸子雞) actually includes Yunnam ham and walnuts (孖寶脆皮雞). It is indeed crispy and the meat is gloriously juicy. At $488 for a whole, it could also stand to be bigger but I would venture the same for their wagyu fried rice (頭抽和牛菜粒炒飯 - $188). I also really enjoyed their Yee-Fu noodles loaded with spicy eggplant and kurobata pork (魚香茄子黑豚肉炆伊麵). Don't order a regular bowl of rice, shoot for their slow cooked bowl of rice that has been stewed in fresh crab meat (鮮蟹肉泡飯 - $98 each). It is all so-so-so good that I sigh each time I think about this place. The service is impeccable. They're extremely knowledgeable on most dishes and can provide recommendations while accommodating certain diet preferences. Reservations are best and be sure to request for a window table for the view. Groups will likely be sat in private rooms. At Golden Bauhinia, one can be guaranteed one of the most luxurious and certainly tastiest meals on the entire island.

Fancy Cantonese restaurant with a view and a quiet, upscale ambience…read more I came here with family for dim sum and it was definitely a positive experience overall. Food quality is good, sugar glazed barbecue pork buns are always an item welcome on my dining table, especially if the bun isn't overly doughy and the glaze is light and crusty. Vegetables were fresh and crunchy- as you'd expect of this price point, and their flour rolls (腸粉) were excellently some- light, no floury textures, and they didn't overpower the soy sauce. Siu Mai were soft, but the addition of the shrimp added a nice crispy texture. The black truffle however didn't really make much of a meaningful contribution. Their deep fried taro pastries were quite noteworthy, in that all of it was very light, and surprisingly wasn't greasy in appearance or mouthfeel. Would I recommend this place for a casual family lunch or dinner? Probably not. It simply doesn't make sense considering the price point. On the other hand, this place would be great for special occasions or those times when you simply wanted to impress someone.

The dishes are not expensive and the food was always fresh and good flavored. For example: I love the classical Hainan Chicken Rise Dish. The soup is tasty and the chicken is cooked very gently. The sauces are perfect. Try it! You can get this dish also at the lunch time. The restaurant is very busy at the rush hours like lunch and dinner time, which is a good sign. The guys ordered the Tibetan-style dry beef noodles in garlic sauce (HK$42) and I opted for the beef noodle soup (HK$38). The food was served very promptly, within 5 mins of placing the order! And my my, was my noodle soup piping hot!! Mhmmm super warm and hearty, with a generous serving of coriander. WINNING. THAT BROTH THOUGH, HOLY COW. Very very flavorful. It reminds of the soup at the end of hot pot when everything's been cooked in it. Just like that. Full of beef flavor. I loveeeee. For the dry noodles with garlic sauce, it reminds me of tsukemen, where the broth came on the side. It's the same broth used for the noodle soup but a tad saltier. I saw the chili pepper next to this item on the menu so was hesitant about ordering it. But I tried a bit of my friend's and it wasn't too spicy at all! I'll definitely return for it! (And will need to return for the other skewers and cumin fried chicken wings!!) How much did we spend among four people? HK$205. What a STEAL! Around HK$50 per person. It doesn't get any better than that. Plus serving size is much bigger than that of Kau Kee, and for the same price, you're better off coming to Qinghai Tibetan Noodles. NOM AWAY!

Too bad what is happening there now but when one of my friends who have been there told me he has found a place that reminds him of his trip to Tibet, I have to give it a try. I have never tried Tibetan food before so honestly I did not have any expectations whatsoever, I went with a open heart and let it surprise me. The place is really small with only a few tables (outdoor seating as well if you do not mind the heat). There is nothing fancy about the décor here but I have seen quite a lot of happy customers here so I think my friend has recommended a rather nice place. Since he has been to Tibet and (supposedly) knows more about its food, I just let me order. He ordered signature noodles with muttons and beef for me. After a while the food was served. One of the staff came to us (maybe I did look like I was not in my element) and told us before we ate, we should smell it first. And we did. I could not really describe that but it was rather special, in a good way. The staff told us that for Tibetan food, it is very common to use something called "Ground Cumin" that has a very distinct aroma to it. And then I had a bite of the mutton, which was not so chewy and it went so well with the soup. I enjoyed my very first Tibetan food very much and since I do not know when I can finally go to Tibet, I guess I will come here again.
