I remember back then as I always woke up early in the morning, I had plenty of time to walk around to buy my own breakfast before going to school. Bao Dim Sin Seng used to be in another location, much bigger and much more crowded. It was located next to the roadside so you would expect the crowd. What I liked the most was how cheap the buns were. As a student before, I did not have that much of allowance to go crazy on the food; and I hated those chips or fries at the tuck shop. Therefore, this place offered me a healthier choice where I could get a bowl of steamed rice with chicken feet or buns with lotus paste. Nowadays it has moved inside the mall and the place is just one of those bakeries. Kind of small and seriously what you see is what you get. I am rather disappointed with this as it is nothing like what it used to be. It used to remind me of my childhood or adolescence to be exact. Now all is gone. Just like the old Tuen Mun has lost its look completely and ended up as a shopping mall for all those tourists from our great motherland. Bravo. Who knows what is going to happen next time I come back to Hong Kong.

The sausage roll meat filling was excellent and would have tasted even better warmed up. The strawberry danish looked beautiful but tasted like a normal strawberry danish. Even though there is usually a queue outside the clean, brick-fronted shop on Kai Chiu Road, I was surprised no line at Causeway Bay at 9AM!!! I just felt its not worth it and didn't give it a try. It could be very good.

I later came back to buy a mango cake roll ($35 HKD) for my brother, and that was delicious. A lot of places skimp out on the cream in cake rolls, but not this one. The cake was light and fluffy, not too sweet. My absolute favourite though, was the matcha creme bun ($10 HKD). There's a mango version but it's not as good. The matcha bun is the right amount of sweet with intense green tea flavour. It's big, it tastes great, and its totally worth it. I will miss the bun so much I will dream about it when I return to Canada.

The egg tarts had an amazing flaky crust and smooth, jiggly egg custard filling. The salted egg pasty was a last minute decision but it did not disappoint, with a slightly sweet pastry crust and a tasty cooked yolk in the middle, unique and delicious. The bbq pork pastry was savory and crispy, so good. It would definitely not be safe for me to live near this place!

After selling from this corner on Garnville for the better part of a couple of decades, this bakery showcases a myriad of quality pastries at reasonable prices. The best time to come is in the daytime, especially the mornings. There might be a small line from time to time, but they're after the same buttery aroma of fresh baked goods. Do not take a single item here for granted; multiple things here run out on the daily. The friendly mom and pop team are often here and quite accommodating. They are brutally honest about which batches are good or bad, and are quick to make recommendations for first timers looking to experiment with different pastries. From cookies to tarts to mini pies, the variety is some of the best one will find anywhere in TST, let alone the rest of HK. Classic egg tarts are always a win, but their milk custard and cheese tarts are addicting in their own right. The meat pies are decent, though the tuna leaves a bit much to be desired. The meat pies aren't of Aussie variety, but they've got magical fillings like BBQ pork and curry beef. Muffins and croissants occupy the upper level of the display and are constantly refilled till they run out. There is also a dessert stand right next to this, serving up cold treats and whole sized bday cakes. The fruit tarts have been my favorite, but they have been skimping on the fruit as of late. I imagine they would be a special quality desserts bakery, but the hot food attracts the bigger crowd and retains the following. Non-Chinese speakers should be relieved the staff speaks English. It is a cash only operation and there are no places to sit. If you're on the go and craving pies and or tarts, this is *the place* to score it.
