The glaze has to match the cream on the inside. So at the end of the day, few "eclairs" can actually live up to these standards and ultimately fail. They become more like a jelly/cream filled donut. L'eclair De Genie is a French company that has found its way into this port city. Not only are their little pastries works of art, but they fulfill all the criteria that make the eclair and eclair. The inside is a super smooth egg custard with a burnt, sweet top. They even have a few unique snacks that you can only buy at this specific location. They cost a little more than regular neighborhood bakeries in Hong Kong, but the high quality makes it totally worth the price. The shop is right outside the MTR station at Citygate Outlets. It is a quick takeaway spot, so it is the perfect breakfast or snack before you get on the cable car.

Even the big bakery chains sell things like pineapple buns for around HK$7-9. But this bakery falls into the category of being even more ridiculously cheap. They have a lot of buns here like pineapple and cocktail buns. Some sell for as low as HK$2 which is basically for a quarter in American dollars. Though most buns cost around HK$3 and they are quite huge. While the taste of the buns are not out of this world, they are pretty decent. Comparable to the buns I buy in Seattle that cost up to 5 times that price. I did also see other baked goods here like bread and egg tarts. We shared a Japanese custard pudding soft serve parfait and it was the perfect dessert. The soft serve is creamy and has a strong milk flavor. The pudding appears to be house made and was so decadent. If you've had one of those honey comb soft serves before, this is quite similar. 3. There tends to be a line but it moves fast. There's also no seating so most people will eat standing in front of the counter.

The matcha bun is the right amount of sweet with intense green tea flavour. It's big, it tastes great, and its totally worth it. I will miss the bun so much I will dream about it when I return to Canada.
