Being Shaanxi cuisine, the flavors are very different than the local, Cantonese ones. I've had a variety of their signature biang biang noodles, such as spare ribs, beef and leek dumplings, and lamb dumplings. I would definitely go with one of the dumplings. Both were very flavorful and juicy on the inside. Although the thick, flat noodles are hard to share because it's one long piece, I love the texture of them. I think they're the perfect amount of chewy and compliment the spices perfectly. Aside from the signature biang biang noodles, I've had their cold noodles with sesame sauce. This is also a favorite of mine at Yau Yuen Siu Tsui. The noodles are thinner, but still have an amazing texture to them. They're not soft and soggy, very chewy. The sauce also hits just the right amount of spice. Their appetizers are also very unique. We've had their grass jelly with peanut sauce and shredded lotus roots. The grass jelly had a wasabi element to it where the spice goes up your nose so I wasn't that big of a fan. The shredded lotus roots were fantastic though! They were cooked perfectly so that there's still a crunchy to them but not too hard. Although small, this place still get really crowded and so the service can be kind of slow but I enjoy it because that means you don't have to rush through the meal. The only thing that might give Yau Yuen Siu Tsui a ding on points is their location. It's not particularly convenient to get to.

They have a wide variety of appetizers and entrees. For appetizer, we had a noodle with chicken and cucumbers. Then for the entree, I was recommended to get the biang biang noodles, which are thicker and wider noodles compared to many other types of Chinese noodles. I got it with dumplings. The dumplings and noodles don't come in a soup, but it does have some spicy chili to go with it that tastes really good. I like the unique flavor and noodle texture. They have very nice decorations in there as well. From what I hear, they were previously at a smaller spot and relocated here. Glad they moved to this bigger spot so more people could dine in. Highly recommend this place!

Their popularity was at an all-time high just before the pandemic and has remained one of Sai Wan's most frequent local eateries. To no one's surprise, the seating and layout are not group friendly and it can be very cramped. Sharing tables is a big possibility, and I'd come here with no more than 3-4 folks. Waiting is a common past time here, so try to aim for a pre-noon arrival. Their stuffed toasts are legendary and are indeed the real deal. The salted egg yolk toast is fun to eat and film, but the taro custard (香芋流沙西多士) is next level good. The lava that flows from within makes this the ultimate dessert item, and should be on everyone's table. Their XO stir fried radish cubes (XO醬炒蘿蔔糕), along with the XO fried rice rolls (XO醬炒腸粉) are two of my favorite items. The dim sum items are fairly standard (especially the shrimp dumplings), but the shrimp stuffed rice rolls are very good. The shrimp toast is not my usual kind of order, but this place definitely specializes in it. The service is warm and very quick with everything: taking orders, bringing food, and getting the check. Prices are not back breaking but it's a little more expensive than other comparable places. Cash is king.

The owners aren't outright friendly, but are certainly warmer than your average cha chaan teng waiter in Hong Kong. The sesame shrimp toast is more delicious than it has any right to be - crisp exterior studded with toasted white sesame, these triangles give way to plump shrimp meat in the middle, and a cute little dish of Kewpie mayonnaise on the side. The signature egg yolk is fun to cut into - giving you some real insta-worthy yolk porn, but is definitely heavy, so consider sharing. But for me, what won my heart was a delicious take on a childhood favorite - radish cakes: Chau Kee's versions are cut up and fried, so that the crisp fry-exterior gives way to a tacky and soft interior. Flavors of shrimp and seafood are present from the XO sauce. The menu is in both Chinese and English and full of pictures, so it's also gweilo-friendly!

This restaurant is a bit out of the way and the kind of place you wouldn't know about unless you knew a local. I learned of this spot from my aunt who lives in HK and has brought me here for dinner a couple times. The storefront does not have an English name so you will need to look for the Chinese title. Look for a red color sign. The restaurant interior has a feel of a hole in the wall. When you enter, grab a table if there is one open. Though be forewarned that you might need to share it if the restaurant fills up. It is best to get in early (5-ish) before the crowd at dinner time. There isn't an English menu, so it helps if you come here with a Chinese speaker. But there are menu item photos plastered over the wall so you could simply point to what you want here. The signature menu item here are their dan dan noodles. They are also a very good deal since it is just HK$24. This dish is spicy, though you can ask for a less spicy version but it is a bit watered down in flavor. On my recent trip, I had a few other items in addition to the dan dan noodles and all four of them were great. They have this fried fish appetizer which are crunchy that I couldn't get enough of. Then there were the two Sichuanese standards, chili green beans with ground beef and ma po tofu. The green beans were nice and crisp with plenty of garlic and chili pepper. The ma po tofu was silky and comforting. They also have xiaolongbao here which are HK$50 for an order of 8. For a restaurant that does not specialize in Shanghai cuisine, I thought these were quite good. Not the best I have had, but solid. The service is great here. And the chef was quite accommodating despite all of the special requests we had. The restaurant is a bit off the beaten path, but if you are looking for good Sichuanese food, Wing Lai Yuen is worth seeking out.

I especially liked their 擔擔麵 (dandanmian) and 小籠包 （this is not really 川菜 but who cares? 好吃！）, so good! 不錯！For desserts, I recommend 炸銀絲卷 (sweet fried bread which is crunchy on the outside, you eat it with a condensed milk like dip), 雷沙湯圓 (hot mochi with black sesame cream inside) , and 豆沙鍋餅 (Awesome pancake with sweet red bean paste! Thinking about the food makes my mouth water, and we often order more than we can eat so we can pack up the rest to go for the next day. Fatty char siu: I thought this was the best dish that I have had in this restaurant. The fat isn't hard which means it will melt when it goes straight into your mouth. Roast goose: This was pretty good too. I liked the flavor of the skin and the meat. Sweet and sour pork on rice: This was a great dish. The pork seems fresh and the sauce isn't too sweet or too sour. They have achieved the balance. DINNER... We ordered most of the same things, but I will only describe the new dishes. Scrambled eggs with shrimp: This was very nice. I think this place adds butter or milk to their eggs. Couldn't stop eating this dish. Tofu with fish: I wasn't really a fan of this dish. The texture as well as the flavor of the fish seemed off. I liked the tofu though. Overall, I think this place is worthy of my services. I'll be back.

Depending on what you order, be prepared to spend the equivalent of about USD30 or more per person. What sets Lei Garden apart from the rest of all the dim sum restaurants is not just the deliciousness of their food, but their refinedness and creativity. Shredded Yam Egg Rolls: That's exactly where their creativity and sophistication come in. The filling tasted like a puree of yam mixed with minced pork and was almost heavenly. These are hands down the best egg rolls that I've ever had! Honey BBQ Spare Ribs: This is one of their specialties and I highly recommend that you order this dish. The meat was so tender that they fell off the bones. The honey BBQ flavor was so delicious that I needed to borrow a phrase from KFC that "it's finger licking good!" (Yes, forget about the chopsticks and eat with your fingers!) Fried Chicken Wings: The skin was perfectly crispy and the inside was moist and juicy. This is another dish that requires you to eat with your fingers and lick them to completely enjoy the experience. Har Gow: Thin, translucent, and slightly chewy skins were graced with a shrimp filling that was bouncy in texture and rich in natural flavor. Bean Curb Rolls in Broth: The fish broth was richly flavored, and not only did it make the bean curb rolls more enjoyable, it was so tasty that we finished every drop of the broth, treating it just like a soup dish. Rice Wrapped in Lotus Leaf: Tasty and not overly oily (Yes!) fried rice was generously mixed with Chinese sausage, minced pork, salty egg yolk, among many other goodies. It was wrapped in a lotus leaf and steamed to perfection that the aroma of lotus filled the air and stimulated the palate. This is another one of their specialties that I highly recommend. Siu Mai: They were tiny but were packed with a concentrated richness that was enhanced by the flavors of black mushrooms. Small, bite size, refined, and delicate - They were exactly what dim sum should be like! Beef Balls: Quality speaks here. There was not even a hint of soda powder or tenderizer. Again, the serving size was tiny but the flavor was supreme. And that perfectly matches the city where the value of food is generally not measured by its size, but by its quality.

Love the curry sauce as it goes perfectly with plain steamed rice, even the potatoes were done well in absorbing the curry. If you like Morning Glory, they do a very good job with the seasoning and I usually request the Chef to add extra Thai Chilli to kick it up a few notches! Service has always been attentive, but I also noticed the high turn over rate as the familiar faces from the last few years are not to be found, parking can be redeemed, just notify the server at end of your meal!
