Great that this place survived the pandemic close-downs and managed to maintain quality and value!! Being Teochew, this is a must-visit everytime I come to Hong Kong. It's a traditional Chinese restaurant, functional rather than luxurious. Nevertheless, it was bright and welcoming.
A platter of gong fu cha arrived the minute we sat down to lubricate the palate and get us ready for a feast. Service was quick and efficient.
Their cold fish is one of the best in town, and the black mullet that we ordered did not not disappoint. It was perfectly fresh and cooked. The soya bean sauce that was supplied to dip in was perfect.
The Teochew braised goose was as perfect as I recall from the first time I've been here. Succulent, tender, tasty and not too salty. Perfect flavor with umami. One thing new that we tried was the oyster omelet. Again, another perfect Teochew speciality that this place serves. As a vege, we ordered my usual stir fried long beans, and this did not disappoint. Lots of umami with when stir-fried with "oh nam chye" (not sure what it's called in English, but the Teochew translates to black olive vegetable) and minced pork.
We were given copious rounds of gong fu cha everytime we asked. Despite being stuffed, the server suggested desert when she delivered the last round of tea, and we couldn't resist. The yam paste with ginko nut could have been a bit smoother, but it worked well to finish off the meal. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!! read more
