Service was quick, but it wasn't all that busy when we arrived and the place was clean. Would certainly return again, the price is right and the food is plentiful.

Another try, another area, another... not going to be running back here anytime soon. Sigh, I'm…read morealways going to be a sucker for Korean BBQ but I'm just not hitting it thus far in Hong Kong! I had better luck when I lived in SoFlo! Granted this place is great for large groups and it's very, very inexpensive. But with inexpensive you also get cheaper cuts of meat. Thankfully, you also get to cook the crap out of it. Hey, I never said I won't be a vegetarian by the time we leave Hong Kong! Let's start with the positive side: Hubby and I ate at an all you can eat buffet for around $118HKD or roughly $15USD a piece which is super cheap!! (Not sure how much the tea was but really, you can't get much cheaper for a lunch buffet that I know of. The choices are okay, I wouldn't say extensive by any means. The meat area is all set up in square metal tins in a huge self-serving area. There were huge caldrons of stews and soups which looked good but neither of us tried any of those. And now for the Negative side: While we were immediately seated upon walking in. We couldn't get a server or a menu for a few minutes. We both looked at each other as the serves were rushing by and finally we held up our hand. Maybe they assumed we knew what to do? I guess assumed we were getting the buffet. Once we received the menu and looked it over, we decided to do the buffet. Normally, I really dislike buffets because well, everything is just sitting there starting at you, begging to be taken off the table. But since we were committed and famished, we decided to just go with it. Thankfully, my husband enjoys barbequing...so I never hesitate to take him to eat Korean BBQ. No one in this city cares if you walk around smelling like a BBQ so it's all good! I also really liked that we were able to determine the right amount of "doneness" because some of the meat looked a little sketchy if you know what I mean. As for the taste. Overall, it was just okay. I mean when you're not impressed by much and definitely isn't "Wowing you" it doesn't leave any impression except that it filled us up so we could do our necessary shopping. I don't think it will be on my return radar!

Dinner in Hong Kong…read more.. After a long day of shopping, we truly were HUNGRY! I had already decided in my mind to eat kalbi. It was 96HK$ and came with a bowl white rice. The tasty kalbi (not the best quality) arrived on a sizzling platter along with some Korean mochi sticks (tteokbokki) that weren't spicy! Yay! They had a nice crisp outer layer from the caramelization of the teriyaki sauce. The inside of the tteokbokki was soft and comfortingly chewy. Service was efficient. We ordered and paid at the counter. Our food was brought to us. There wasn't much interaction because of the language barrier. The shop was clean and bright with lime green chairs and accaccents. We appreciated the air-conditioning and seat-yourself, casual style. No reservation needed!

Located on Ashley Road where there are many other restaurants as well this cozy place just simply stood out especially since menu items here are below $98HK and though the Kalbi ribs sounds like the protein packed nutritious I'm craving it was the Jap Chae which was made to order and served hot with carrots, spinach, beef and scrambled eggs at $44HK which is about $6.20 is the portion is small but was just the right size the keep me fueled to explore. This modest shop has a decent amount of seating and you need to order at the counter which the staff will bring out to your table which is nice and clean and the much needed break in this lovely air conditioned restaurant that what a lucky discovery. Thank you!

A feast worth coming back to…read more We came here for dinner and ordered one of the large sharing platters for five, then added a couple of à la carte cuts because the menu was too tempting to stop there. Our platter came with beautifully marbled beef cuts like kalbi, misuji, rosu, and filet, plus tongue and other prime selections. We also tried the premium zabuton and harami à la carte, which turned out to be some of the highlights of the night. Every single cut of beef was top quality, tender, and perfectly complemented by the sauces on the table. The flavors were clean and rich without being heavy, exactly what you want in yakiniku. The service was very good, staff were friendly and helpful, and the style of the booths gave a nice sense of space and privacy. The restaurant was not too busy so we got to relax and enjoy our food at our own pace. Between the platter, the extra cuts, and the great side dishes, it was an unforgettable meal. I would definitely come back.

This place sells itself with authentic Korean BBQ. The atmosphere is decent, but the seating is pretty tight, especially when five people got seated around a small round table. There is barely space to put our plates, let alone all the bbq items! For the bbq, there is a good selection of meats. Alas, some of them were a bit chewy and stringy, and wasn't quite top notch. Apart from meats, we also got a few other items to share. There was a beef bone soup, which was delicious, steamed egg, and a hot pot that came after the bbq. The hot pot is called the "troop's pot", and apparently resembles what the Korean troops would eat -- a bunch of minced beef, spam, mushrooms, veggies and a slice of cheese (one slice!) thrown into a kimchi-laced broth. There are many kinds of Korean drinks you can fetch from the coolers, so make sure you try some of them! Also, they have delicious banchan. Kimchi and the baby bok choy was our favourite. All in all, I would say this place is pretty good, but it left much to be desired. Everything would be better with a little bit of improvement, and the staff could use a little additional training in Cantonese (they only speak English and Korean) ;)

Living in Asia it's difficult to not try the cuisines of your continent so I've tried Korean here and there but have never been totally impressed. One day in Discovery Bay while I'm trying to ignore the barks and cries I walk towards Ebenezer's. I can't remember why but at the time it was closed, probably renovations or something. I remember being upset because I was looking forward to a kebab, spicy. Next door First Korean had recently opened and was offering a very affordable lunch set and knowing that anywhere else on Disco-Bay I had to shell out over $100 for lunch. I ignored the voice in the back of my head warning me against trying Korean again. I can't tell you how many times I've been back for the same $65 Stone Pot Rice dish, enough for the waiters to know my order before I sit down. When I'm not sure what to eat - Stone Pot Rice, too lazy to cook - Stone Pot Rice, Hmmm should I try something else? No - Stone Pot Rice. That's a lie. I've tried a couple other dishes and they weren't bad; Sweet and sour chicken with rice, and sizzling beef and enoki mushrooms with rice. The chicken dish would be great save for the bones in each and every little morsel making it more of a mission than an enjoying experience. The sizzling beef is good, no complaints on this dish. But when compared to the Stone Pot Rice, it's crispy rice and tradition Korean sauce there's simply no question. Even listening to the same ten songs on repeat for the past three months hasn't stopped me from returning - in fact I think it's helping me learn to speak Korean.

I rated service a 2 because when I asked the waitress for her recommendations, she had no qualms about pointing out the most expensive items on the menu including the tiger prawn special which was at market price.
