Dining in Hong Kong...
My friend, Paul C., has good taste. His taste buds are discerning and his wallet is astute. I totally trust him.
So, when he found out that i was going to Hong Kong, he gave me a list of places to check out. A must do was to eat Roast Goose.
Fu Wah Cafe (on Paul's list for me) was a subway ride away. My friend and i walked a few blocks and found this busy, modern restaurant with a convenient restroom.
That's the funny part.
I asked the cashier (in English) if they had a restroom (after indicating that I was with my friend who had just paid for takeout). He didn't answer, so I asked again because maybe he didn't hear me? He gave me a blank look, so I found the restroom by myself.
The cashier looked like a disgruntled worker. I mean... he left his post with the drawer of the cash register open! I could have easily scooped some bills! Hah! And the way he treated my friend...he put her change on the opposite side of the counter and made her walk around the desk to retrieve it. Yes...I noticed.
So, when my friend went to the restroom, I sat at a clean table, grabbed a pair of chopsticks, opened our package, and took a bite of cha siu and a bite of goose.
The tender cha siu was truly the star of the plate. The flavor bursted in my mouth and made the goose pale in comparison. I wiped my face, wrapped up our takeout, placed my used chopsticks on another table that was ready to be cleaned, and left that sour faced boy in the dust! read more
