I decided on two dim sum spots to try on this trip with Tim Ho Wan being the first. I came 6 PM on a weekday and it wasn't busy, we were quickly seated as there were plenty of available tables. Since we were not too hungry, we ordered the Shrimp Cheung Fun, Har Gow, and Siu Mai. It took around 5 mins for the dim sum to come out and the food looked good. However, it really seemed like some flavors were missing the umami taste that you would expect of dim sum. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a disappointing meal, so I would recommend trying other dim sum spots when in Hong Kong.

It's not modern and it's not the cleanest but it's got character. And the food has flavor. Prices are cheap now for what you get but it's more than reasonable. They've got the staples as well as some rarer stuff like the coconut steamed egg, fish balls and steamed fish head. When you hit lunch time, their roast meats are surprisingly good. Especially the meaty roast pork. It sounds silly but the meat flavor really comes through. Enjoy it while you can.
